Same here water still drains regardless of levers position so I been using a rubber stopper
@@jaredharris1970 there's a threaded part on the inside of the piece that he pulled out in the video. You have to adjust it to get the bottom piece to block the water coming in at the drain. It's most likely off just enough to let the water in your tub drain.
look up how to adjust a bathtub stopper. This should help you out.

Had the same problem use a wire hanger with a small bend at the end to lift up drain stopper

Thanks for this-- Never did this before so when I pulled on the mechanism and the whole thing came out, I didn't see how it would go back in (without having to be re-attached on the inside somehow)-- So apparently the stopper (metal cylinder) just plain drops back into place? I thought something inside fell apart and I was going to have to call a plumber to rip the whole tub out. I will replace the lever tomorrow-- Thanks for helping me de-stress!

Good video. Short, concise, and right to the point. My drain lever broke off at the linkage, and the stopper fell to the bottom, blocking the drain water in the tub all the time. To the hardware store I go...
It broke off on my tub too.. How did you get it out?
@@willc2358 This is what I did, at may not work for others. First, remove the lever plate from the tub, two screws. Then, remove the drain trap from under the tub, this unscrews from both ends. Be prepared to have to replace drain parts if they are metal, have been there for years and are rusted out. Next, have a partner push up the broken off plunger piece with a thin rod or mechanic's wire, until you can grab and remove it from the tub opening.

If you have the trip lever bucket in place to fill the tub with water, how does the overflow work? It appears to go down the same pipe that is blocked. I’m contemplating removing the bucket and just installing a manual drain.

Ty, I needed to know where to put cotta pin.also, if your bell weight piece is set in a loop in the middle or floating across..mine is floating left to right..not set in middle

asquaregarden THANKS FOR SHARING I actually forgot how these worked I couldn't remember if the entire rod assembly had to be changed as well but you clarified that for me I also need to change my shower diverter when I pull up on lever it takes about 30 seconds or so for the water to make it's way up to shower head OLD HOUSE AND PROBABLY ALOT OF MINERAL BUILD UP THANKS AGAIN!!

What do you do when the linkage is stuck
This is straight forward so I'm gonna do this tomorrow. Ours is old and rusted and the water can't drain out of our tub.

This was helpful but I have added info. The adjustment is a bit difficult. If you use the hole at the end no problem but if you have to use the mid hole you have to fit it in and adjust it and then cut the end of the hookup flange and adjusting screw because I found that there is no room for the parts to go up into.

how do i find out the height i need to do the parts under the lever our tub is not draining but i cant figure out the height i need
Had a tub where the 'stopper' at the end of the linkage wasn't seating/sealing properly and water wouldn't stay in tub. Did all kinds of cleaning (both stopper and drain) but would never hold water.
So I finally gave up and replaced drain in tub with that has a 'pop-up' stopper in the drain in the tub and for the overflow hole (where the linkage feeds in with the type of stopper shown in this video) there's just a faceplate with a slot at the bottom to handle any overflow. Just wanted to point out there are other options if this type of drain doesn't work for you.

Nice job. Where did you get the replacement parts
The part was from Lowe’s. The only issue that I have with it is that it is chrome plated and the heads of the screws are starting to rust. I believe the old screws were stainless so I would recommend looking for a similar version.

The one I got from Lowe’s had it included.
Mine came with the plate and the stopper assembly with a new cotter pin installed and bent already
