that came out way too easy no broken cross pieces. You win giant hairball award beats the mess in mine. this reminds me i need some new dope mine is at bottom of can and kinda hard. but should i go with blue monster again or megalock.
I’ve never tried the blue monster so I can’t suggest it. I do like their tape. I will have to get a can to try out. Thank you.
Pro tip, they make 1.5" extraction sockets for tub drains. Ended up replubing the drain anyway but man that thing was corroded as hell and came out with ease.
@@ThatFixItGuyremoved the old drain easily! Tried installing the new one, the entire drain was turning when I tried to replace the drain! BTW, a jacuzzi tube was installed about 8 years ago! Upon removing the old drain, I did notice that the drain DID NOT have the gasket, the installers put plumbers putty instead! Any ideas on how to fix the problem?
You're a lifesaver, my man. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
My wife has been wanting to soak in a tub full of hot water , this is the solution. Thank you 😊
This was so easy to follow. We ended up having to replace the pvc pipe too. Still, it only took my daughter and me a couple hours, and that included driving back to the hardware store a couple times. Thank you for this video 😊
For those that don't know, Teflon tape isn't a sealer, but a lubricant to allow fittings to be made tighter which helps to prevent leaks.
Right on! It is a super lube in my opinion. Thank you.
It's also a sealer. Try not using it on gas lines😅
It is a sealer. Read the description of Teflon manufacturing.
Thank you for including the tip for pressing down on pipe to loosen space!! I was stumped until I watched your video 🙏
Glad this could help you out.
Nice fix. I'd be afraid of introducing a leak if I changed mine out. Looking forward to seeing the shower valve replacement!
Thank you David.
I love the realism. yeah, we have hair in our drain too. Wife and daughter both have long hair LOL Nice video. Thanks
First time I hear of this plumbing dumbell and it could be a life saver, I have a stubborn clog I can't get to by snaking through the overflow valve, now I realize I can just remove the drain and attack it from there, I just ordered this from amazon and should come tomorrow.. I hope it will be the solution to my problem!
So glad someone put tape and dope on those thread
Awesome. Thanks for the video. Now I feel confident replacing mine as well.
Your welcome. You got this!
Thanks for the great information Brian. Wow that’s a lot of hair, I agree it had to have been there before you got the tubbrella. Take care and have a great weekend 👍
Thank you Britt. I hope you are having a great weekend as well.
GREAT VIDEO! Very informative and easy to follow ~
Thanks buddy, not so drains are quite the same, but I got mine off just that quick thanks to you!
cool. Glad this helped you out.
I clean my drain of that much hair every couple months lol. The cross bar catches it. Thanks for the clear instructions. I’m a retiree updating and renovating.
😂 he make it look easy , as a plumber newer home is easier but older home I don’t think so
"Oh MAN, what is goin' on THERE!" hahaha Thanks for the video, I enjoyed your humor.
You've helped a lot past few days. Subbed.
Awesome! So glad to hear. Thank you for the Sub!
Looking forward that shower cartridge replacement lol😅
😂 me too!
Thank you, just what I needed
Thanks for the tips! I like the toe tapper!
Your welcome. We need to get you one in a new tub!
BEWARE:
Sometime the pipe under the bathtub BREAKS when you try to remove the tub drain!!!!!!!!
the content gods gifted you a cartridge repair video 👍😀
😂 totally. Homeownership is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you.
@@ThatFixItGuy we're all grateful for people such as yourself who help us through it!
What if you can’t get that rubber gasket installed below the drain??
Literally needed this video tonight. Gave my kid a bath and apparently the tub plumbers putty is no long keeping the water out. Started leaking into the basement.
This will be tomorrow's project after work....
So glad this could help you out.
@ThatFixItGuy fixed the drain today. You were a huge help man. My Dad never really showed me how to do much of anything growing up. Now I'm 43 and rely on UA-cam to walk me through stuff like this.
Brian, i recently got a tool for turning 3/4" pipe from the inside. It was a package deal, and i got several other tools as well.
Sweet. Internal pipe wrenches are awesome. I have something planned for one in the future.
I don’t understand why many use the washer provided for under the tub. The instructions indicate to use it under the strainer. Anyhow, it worked for you. Thanks for sharing.
I have never seen those instructions. It would leak everytime without that gasket.
How long do you need to wait to test it out?
Great video thanks!
Your welcome. Thanks for watching.
Screwing the cartridge into the drain, it wouldn't lock. I tried to unscrew it from the drain, it turned and turned. What do I do to get the cartridge stuck in the drain?
Good video! 👍🏼
Thank you.
Hi thanks for the video I have a question that cross on the bottom off the tub are broken how can I get it out then. I can even find someone to fix my so I'm going to try it myself after I saw your video. Thanks
Once when I came across broken cross bars and before I watched this video, I had to chisel the plastic pieces away with a hammer and flathead screwdriver. In some areas was able to chisel in and somewhat turn part of the old drain. McGuver skills were definitely needed that day. Good luck!
Never thought about putting tape and the goup. I'm going to try it tomorrow when i replace mine. 😢
This method has been good to me for a long time. You got this.
It all looks great, but I have big problem with removing old flange/rim - it keep spinning. I have managed to spin it with the tool, it kicked off the old silicon from between the rim and bathtub base, but even tho it's spinning quite easily it doesn't go up at all. I tried to spin and pool with pliers, but that doesn't seem to work either. What am I missing here? Are there kinds with no thread? Is this thread broken or unmatched? Maybe I am doing something wrong here? I also don't have access to under the bath tub as I would need to break the tiles (don't ask me - I bought this place like that..)
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video brother. I actually need to do this job in my tub what’s the best way to do it if the cross bars are broken. Please help 😂😂
Did you get it out? I just did the same thing found a video of a lady using a hammer and pliers. It took a bit of messing around and tried 2 different hammers but got it out
What about the hair catcher? Cant use it anymore.
Works real great until all the rotten brass crossarms break off.
that is true. It all falls apart at some point.
Facts😂
I’m in this situation how have you approached it in the past?
GTRAT!! Looks do-able BUT HOW MUCH. for all those parts and glue??
EXACTLY 😂 u gotta spend a good amount of money first to get all the parts needed in order to get the job done
1:52 my bar is broken. What can I do to get this out?
ua-cam.com/video/F6kwv3junNs/v-deo.htmlsi=0VKxIdZlLPGW-WKe This is how I do them, but there are other methods out there. hope this helps
Does it need the white piece with it too? 😳
The hair catcher? Or the Teflon tape?
What was the point of the pipe dope on the gasket? Half of it seemed to rub off onto the bottom of the tub in the process of putting it in place. You don't really need to put teflon/pipe dope on these connections... they're drain pipes, so they're not under pressure!
I’m a cautious person and doing new construction Warranty for years have seen so many of these leak. The megalock will fill in the smallest scratches on the tub or the tub shoe. And you are forgetting about all the pounds of pressure when you fill the tub for a bath! That’s a good amount of head pressure. I would do the math, but I have to go read to my kids.
NEEDLE NOSES WLDVE EXTRACTED THAT DRAIN WIT EASE🙅🏾♂️🧢
It doesn't always come out easy if it hasn't been changed in 10+ years or if the cross bars are brittle and breaking.
Yeah I fear that in my ancient tub.
why does he sound like phil spencer?
The Microsoft guy? 😂
first
If your not first your last!
I broke my drain pipe doing this and now I'm getting ghosted by every shit brained plumber in my town.
Sooo i went ahead and tried to replace this because my brothers and mine bathroom one was completely worn out. The moment i tried to turn the damn thing it snapped the cross bars, and when i tried to chisel the top it came off with a love tap. Now im waiting for my dad to come home( 😢) because the thread portion of the old one is stuck in there still.
