Thank you! It didn't work for me at first. After narrowing down the issue using the process of elimination, I found that the RGB monitor that I was using was causing the problem. After disconnecting the RGB monitor, I followed the instructions in the video again and it worked. Thanks again!
I can't believe this actually worked. I tried all the same steps but used the standard "30 sec" method, which didn't work. But waiting longer as you suggested and going in the order you showed, my dock came back to life. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This has been a lifesaver for me! The docking station shuts down every time we have so sort of power surge at my house (working from home now). Even our IT people or Dell's website couldn't provide me a solution that was better than your video. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this! Saved me hours of frustration!!!
We had a power outage here; overload due to hot weather. My WD15 appeared to die. This fix brought it back to life. Many thanks for sharing this with all of us!!!! God Bless!!
This fixed my issue. Both monitors stopped working. I did not notice the tiny light being off on the station so tried replugging all the cords....your help fixed it quickly. Thank you man.
My docking station was shorted today... how I have no idea, everything is on a surge protector too. But this video helped me revive it... so I greatly appreciate it! Here is your view, like, and comment
This worked. Had a thunder and lightning storm rolling through the area so I unplugged my power strip which the wd15 was plugged into. After an all clear, plugged my power strip back into the wall and my extended monitor would not display. Plugged my home into my laptop and got a messed up screen on my external monitor. Followed instructions here, waited 2 minutes each time and I'm back in business.
Some background that also helped me: the WD15 generally doesn't like being connected to the computer during power loss, e.g. when switching off everything via a power strip (like I often do). Then one should generally unplug the USB-C and replug after the WD15 is booted (or even after booting the laptop).
Quoting Dell's troubleshooting section on this: "Dell Docking Station WD15 is designed to operate in AC power only. AC power loss event makes all devices on the docking station fail to function. Even after the AC power is restored, the dock will still not function correctly as the dock must negotiate a power contract with the USB-C port on the computer. This behavior is evident when there is a power loss but also if AC is applied to the dock, after being removed, while it is plugged into the Dell laptop. To resolve this issue: Unplug the USB-C cable and then plug it in again. Sometimes during power loss, you must replug the AC power cable."
Thank you! This was a lifesaver! Same story as others, I though a power surge had fried it, and the docking station/block was a brick. But somehow this worked!
I’m trying this with a thinkpad docking station because my keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working and the light is off. The monitors still come on though. Hoping it fixes it. Thank you for the clear, concise walkthrough!
not going to lie i watched this video and didnt believe that the simple unplug replug would work, but i decided to give it a shot after seeing all these comments and it worked lol
Awesome, thanks. This works when it's conncted to non dell laptops as well if it stops charging. Just disconnected the wd15 dock from the laptop then the power adapter, waited 2 minutes, reconnected the dock to the power adapter, waited another 2 minutes, then plugged the laptop back in. Now it charges, thanks!
Yes, it does help. 1.Disconnect all cables from the docking. 2.Hold power button pressed on the docking for ~10 seconds. 3.Put power supply back and try again connecting to your laptop.
Could not get it to work and detect my double monitors until I powered down my laptop. So make sure you lap top is OFF and then do all these steps and it works!
when the usb light did not comon I was still worried but as soon as you get to the point of plugging it in the laptop it lit up and thank God it worked.
You can also unplug the USB C and the power brick, hold the power button down on the docking station for 30-60 secs to achieve the same results. that resets the WD15 or WD19.
The proper fix to this on a WD15 or WD19 is updating its firmware so that the bugs causing the hung state are permanently fixed. WD15 also often have cable failures which need replacement of the cable portion of the dock.
You just saved me from HOURS of pain and suffering on a support line. Now I can go back to work. Oh... yeah. Now I can go back to work. :( But in all seriousness, thank you SO much!!
Wrote Down the steps For Anyone! 😊 Resetting a Docking Station 1. unplug from USB C cable from computer 2. unplug the power from the dock 3. unplug the power adapter from the wall / Surge wait a 2 mins 4. Plug in power adapter back to the wall / Surge 5. Plug the power back into the back of the dock 6. Plug the USB C cable back into your laptop 7. Turn on your laptop
Are you using this dock on a Dell laptop? If not, does the power button work on a non-Dell laptop? It says it's not supported, but sadly Dell is the only company who makes laptop docks with external power buttons. Thank you for your time.
what if the docking station power brick does not match your laptop power brick. I have a gaming laptop and i tried using the laptop's power brick instead, but it isnt charging. Dell states "Your port does not accept power", although my accesories that are plugged into it work. I have not tried the docking station's power brich as it is smaller than my laptop's. I assume it is less powerfull. What should i do? Is it safe to use the power brick that it comes with?
Thank you! It didn't work for me at first. After narrowing down the issue using the process of elimination, I found that the RGB monitor that I was using was causing the problem. After disconnecting the RGB monitor, I followed the instructions in the video again and it worked. Thanks again!

Yeah I was freaking out too because all of my things weren't working and then I found this video and HOORAY! It all worked again! Thank goodness.
I have the wd19s ... sigh 😕

I have been having issues with my dock station for a few days. This method was quick and easy and it worked for my laptop.
This fixed my issue. Both monitors stopped working. I did not notice the tiny light being off on the station so tried replugging all the cords....your help fixed it quickly. Thank you man.
This worked for me too, using a more recent WD19 model. Much appreciated.
I tried unplugging everyting. Once you showed the correct order, everything started working. Thanks a million!
Thank you. Simple solution and not sure why Dell doesn't have this in it's manual or quick start.
Wow! Awesome. Thought my dock's USB-C was broken for sure after trying everything. It finally worked when I followed the steps in this video.

IT WORKED!! THANK YOU consulting guy!

This worked like a charm. Thank you! It's amazing how simple some fixes are, even for someone who is used to work with tech.
Thought my dock was broken due to a power outage but found your solution and it worked! Thank you!
I thought a power outage had killed my docking station, but this recovery method worked for me. Thank you!

Thank you so much, I was losing my mind and the dell website offered virtually nothing

Wow saved my wife’s work day today. (And my sanity, she was going crazy, lol)
Do you know how to fix it when it shows a hazard sign on the battery sign and says slow charging?
I’ve done this not working for me. The light on the connector starts to flash every 3-4 minutes. Lenovo thinkpad WD22TB4
I don’t believe these comments and these docking stations are absurd
I can’t believe I just watched a video that took so long to say “turn it off and on”.

Thanks a lot, os this compatible with Dell latitude 5490, I'm scared to try it and it may damages the laptop
I have the WD19TBS docking station, and it is not working - can I reset the same way?
