    Thank you soo much, one thing that I struggled with was the Ethernet cable bit as my WiFi box is not in the same room as my gaming setup, so I would really appreciate it if you showed us how/if to connect it without Ethernet cable. Anyways thank you so much for this helpful video.

    I just got one of these brand new with a Latitude 5420 laptop. Im noticing the docking station doesnt activate the USB ports until the laptop is fully booted....Which defeats the purpose of a docking station because I cant use the external keyboard/mouse to enter the hard drive encryption key upon boot up or the login credentials at the Windows login screen. So I have to fully boot up the laptop first, THEN connect it to the docking station to begin work. Anybody else having this incredibly annoying problem? I should note I have 2 other non-Dell docking stations I use with this same laptop and they dont have this issue.

    I've set up my old Dell WD19/ K20a dock to my new HP 2023 laptop but it ain't working. Blue light is showing on the power lead but the light at the end of the usb c lead that goes into the laptop is not coming on. I've tried to my new LG monitor with both HDMI and DP cables but still no image signal being found on my monitor. Any ideas please? Not sure if it's a compatability issue between HP and Dell? The laptop makes the discovery noise when the usb c lead is plugged in/unplugged and I've download the latest Dell firmware? Thanks

    Seriously. Thank you so much. Today is the first day that my new help desk job has finally asked me to do something. They handed me a docking station and told me to check that it works by hooking it up. I didn’t even know what a docking station was used for, I didn’t even know what the name of this type of technology was! After looking up the model number and reading about what it does your video helped me to figure it out. I’m just trying to look competent enough to not get fired yet 🥲

    • @elizabethadams3790
      @elizabethadams3790 13 днів тому

      @@jayday325 I honestly quit that job because I was working as a contractor and the contract was going to end soon. They were not re-hiring anybody from that contract. Having that job though, helped me by allowing me to get my next job. The job I’m at now pays me $22 an hour to work from home and all I do is basically password resets. The job that I was at when I first made this post. It paid me $20 an hour and it was an on-site job where I needed to drive 30 minutes to get to work. It really was not a bad job.
      BUT I only have one car to share with me and my husband so it did make it challenging for both of us to have full time jobs.
      I am hoping to stay with this company for at least a year and then try to apply for a cyber security job within the company or in a company that allows me to travel internationally while working remotely.

    Tenho um Notebook da ASUS que fica fechado, posicionado na parte debaixo da minha mesa e, por isso, não fica ao alcance para ligar e conectar as coisas. Toda vez tenho que abaixar, ligar ele e conectar algo novo... mas estou em dúvida se compro esse, já que no vídeo vc falou que o botão de ligar só funciona em Noteeboks DELL. Alguém mais passou por isso?

    Seeing as how you mentioned having to first sign into the laptop before the other monitors would connect, it doesn't seem as though this docking station is meant to be used with a pc tower because there is no monitor directly attached to the tower, so I could not sign in without being able to see what I am doing. Is my understanding correct?

    I see that the cable from the docking station (c-type) has an led indicator that glows when connected to the laptop. Mine glows only with Dell laptop not with HP. Interestingly, the mouse and the keyboard connected to the docking station are working fine. Any suggestions for HP laptop? How do I display the screen?

  • @bobbartlett3979

    Seems pretty straightforward, except (1) there are easier ways to use an external (larger) monitor with a laptop - without moving mouse, keyboard etc to the Displaylink which is totally unnecessary. Or is the plan to do something beyond what was shown? Is there a strategy for some further interconnections that was never introduced? I suspect it was just missed by the author. And - except (2) you assume everybody with a Displaylink has a USB-C port to transmit video. I would wager there are many more users with HDMI, but you fail to demonstrate or even explain even a possibility of HDMI connections. Otherwise, OK.

      If you're using a Windows laptop, you'll need to change the power settings. Press the Windows key and type in "Lid" (w/o quotes). In the "Plugged in" column and "When I close the lid" row, change it to "Do nothing" instead of whatever it is set to. Save changes and test it out.

      The logic is that once you plug all your stuff up to the dock, you put it somewhere in back out of sight. Then you just have the one cord to plug into your laptop (instead of 5 or 6). If you hide it well, it makes your desk look much cleaner and less cluttered. Plus, you can swap out laptops easy with the one cord.
      I just did all this yesterday for the first time, replacing my old desktop with a new laptop. It really does reduce clutter... plus, I can swap out my personal laptop and work laptop in just a couple of seconds. Very convenient.
