Camped Out Under Northern Lights • An Extreme & Unexpected Solar Storm
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 тра 2024
- On 10th May 2024, our sun unleashed on to the earth the most powerful solar storm in two decades. Caused by recent solar flares, multi-coloured aurora borealis lit up the sky across the globe. I found myself camped out on a hill that night, completely by chance, to experience the most surreal & beautiful night out of my life :) 💚💙💜

The full video for this trip is on the editing pile, I just felt like this rare and beautiful event needed a lil video all of its own.. what an experience this was 💚💙💜 thanks for being here Wild Ones! I'm gonna get back to my usual editing now :)
Hehe, I can imagine being totally unprepared for that made it a bit of a trip in it self😂 -I got a message from a friend who's into space telling me it was going down. So I was fully geared with cameras and ready when it hit😊
This the best video of the Northern Lights I’ve seen. Your filming is always great but this one is exceptional! Thanks for this video!
I was in northern Finland, it was cloudy, and I didn't see squat. Glad you enjoyed it and shared it :)
Thank you, Claire! It's beautiful 💜
Wow. That's some amazing footage. 👏
OMG Claire, such a lucky lady to capture this, in all its glory, truly a lifetime experience not to be forgotten, thank you for sharing this phenomenon with us. 😊
Your face looked like I imagine our ancestors looked when something strange and mysterious happened in the sky. What an awesome experience to have had.
Clair, it was the universe that was in perfect sync, because your trip took place during the exact period of one of the strongest solar eruptions ever recorded. A record amount of solar mass was expelled and was directed exactly toward our planet Earth. Our planet resisted and you witnessed a so unique event in the history of Earth.
I thank you immensely and my eyes filled with water looking at your photos and video.
I live in a city located on the Tropic of Capricorn and we were not lucky enough to witness this event.
From this Brazilian follower, I wish that God continues to bless you and take care that you always return safely to your family.
Stay safe, happy, and enlightened with the blessings of the universe and God.
Thank you very, very much for sharing this special moment.
Lucky girl .For what you do and put yourself through you deserved every minute of that .
Ahh thanks, still can't believe it! 💜

@@nightwolf1592yes... hello 🤗 from Poland 🇵🇱 and rural life - channel!!
Oh!!! You didn't know about the solar storm!!! I'm so happy you got to see them! It's so magical isn't it! I'm 74... I've only ever seen them once in my life. I missed this one because I had clouds but really, bloody happy that you, young one, now have a beautiful memory like I have carried.
I missed it because I was checking my eyelids for leaks ;)
@@DieyoungDiefast LOL!!!!!
Thank you for sharing that with us. We saw them here in Savannah, Georgia, much further south than you. However they were nowhere near as stunning as what you captured. Beautiful video, Claire. Thank you. ✌🏽
Hope you get to see them one day they seem more common lately
Honestly, Claire, I can't think of a finer person to receive the " gift" of being out on that hill to see the aurora. As a nature lover and a fine cinematographer, you were able to do justice to the filming of it all. I await the full trip video with interest.
Hi Claire, I just wanted to say thank you for your fantastic videos, you do not know me but I am ex-army and did a lot of things in my time in the forces especially along the lines of outdoor pursuits and so on. I love nature and being out in extremes and had the fortunate opportunity to travel the world putting skills into practice in different environments. But shortly after leaving the forces I became unwell both physically and mentally. I also suffered a stroke around 4 years ago which has left me damaged and with limited capabilities which include walking. I am now classed as disabled and for a long time I beat myself up as when I attempted to do things, I compared myself how I used to be and gave up doing stuff. Leading to more depression and low self-esteem.
However, things have now changed now for me and I see the positive in things (as you say it’s only a plan that changes and that isn’t a fail and positivity can be found by just being out there) I am now reliving my passion by adapting, and that is with thanks to yourself and others. I hope you do not mind but I created my own channel and did a video of which I have used a few clips of you from your videos to promote you and for others to see where I got my inspiration from and my channel is based on being outdoors, camping and so on while living with limitations, so I hope you do not mind me doing this and should it be a problem please let me know and of course I will respect your wishes. My channel if you wish to watch the video is at ua-cam.com/channels/nvGYskLr2oOWBA06ggbKlQ.html and so far, the only video on my channel but I have plans to make a lot more. As you see I am an amateur when it comes to producing videos LOL but I will learn over time. Thank you for inspiring me through your channel and please keep up the fantastic work.
The Universe is rewarding you Claire for being a great ambassador 🌞
What an eloquent and poetic reflection on the event Claire! You achieved something special - you did it justice. Thank you for being there, for being the right person to be there. Wonderful footage.
Thank you so much for sharing it with me :) 💜
So glad WildBeare was on a hill when this happened, even better that it was not planned. Cant wait for the full version. Absolute joy.
TY, great to see you see this. Wonderfull experience you had there.
You appeared overwhelmed Claire, but rest assured you were in the best place possible to witness such a natural phenomena.
In all of my 69 years, I have never seen such amazing photography work of the Northern Light! You did an amazing job of it! I'm glad you got to experience it. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Thanks so much for posting such beautiful images, truly stunning. Thanks.
Here in Central Norway, the Northern Lights are not uncommon, but every now and then, we are treated to a spectacular show that just leaves you in awe! This looks like one of those, and you are blessed to have seen it. Nice video as always!
I am so happy (and a bit jealous) that you got to see this. You are blessed.
So blessed! :D 💜
Just think, there's not another video on earth that captured the northern lights from your perspective that night! What a treasure for sure! Thanks for the breathtaking views! Keep up the great work!
It takes a " Treasure " to find another treasure. Bushyboy Oz.
Wow!That was awesome! Thanks for sharing it with me. ❤
How very beautiful, both the northern lights and you experiencing them.
Quite simply, one of the best videos on UA-cam.
I can't explain why i believe that. Its just the way i feel.
The innocent joy you show towards this beautiful event is a truly marvelous moment.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm 72 and this video with your commentary was so beautiful it made me cry tears of joy, you are a very caring person and I love all your videos.
Wow wow best place to get the full impact of the lights
So so jealous thanks for sharing
Weird thing to say, but think the fact you have such a beautiful appreciation of nature, means you were somehow meant to see this 😊
‘To feel, to care, sometimes too much’ - this was the sense I got watching the lights on a beach not far from where you were. It was completely overwhelming and in a weird way seemed to amplify my feelings about some of the awful things happening in the world. It was however unbelievably beautiful and an emotional experience to see something so rare and incredible on my doorstep. I can’t imagine how intense that was for you alone and unaware of what was happening.
It's strange isn't it, it seems to have been quite an emotional event for many people, quite overwhelming 💜 so glad you got to see it too
Of the hundreds of vids of the auroras, this vid gave me goose bumps.
What a lucky coincidence that you were out on that night and had spectacularly clear skies and your high quality recording.
Thank you, still can't believe my luck :) 💜
A special experience for a special girl. If anyone deserved to see that amazing sky it was our wild one. You give so much of yourself and share so many of your fantastic trips with all of us and it’s brilliant that you got that wonderful experience, even though it was probably a bit scary too!! Thank you so much for posting. Happy camping xx

Sometimes I think if you were trying to make a magical world, you couldn't do much better than snow and cherry blossoms and rainbows and the northern lights.

Three amazing, beautiful things in one video. The northern lights, the views, and......yourself. ❤
Ahh thanks 💜
Your closing touched me deeply including spine tingling... Thank You
Claire WildBeare you have warmed my heart yet again. I have always dreamed of seeing the Aurora Borealis, and girly you in the damn thing. Awesome Sauce. You are awesome and I always enjoy your dialogue and excursions.😉 💫
Hi beare ,bloody lush camp .and an amazing light show
I lived vicariously through you seeing your genuine astonishment unaware of the reason for the spectacular light display. I knew the lights would be coming shortly before they arrived and really tried to see them but the lights of the city were too strong. I keep coming back to re-watch this video and keep getting this goose flesh (goosebumps). It's so exhilarating. I'm so glad you got to experience it without foreknowledge of it. And the fact you recorded it too. Talk about a once in several lifetimes chance. Thank you for letting us experience it through your eyes.😊
Magic is happening all over our skies at the moment. We had Australia / Southern Borealis active in Tasmania and MELBOURNE Australia 🇦🇺 last week. It was SO RARE, a once in a lifetime for a city. Everyone went to the beaches to see it if they could as it was not hindered by city light. It was brilliant Pinks, Greens, ribbon formations, and then the lights dancing across the sky. Lasted quite a while too. So humbling. Plenty of pictures if anyone wants to check it out. ❤❤❤
It was so lovely to see your awe & wonder as you watched this, it made think about what our ancient ancestors must have felt...! Watching this has made me feel better about snoring my way through the whole event, no one thought to mention it..! It was just beautiful, thank you... X
I've said before your videos have a feel good factor, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Your closing statement in the video though... that said everything. Thank you for sharing this 🙂
Thanks for sharing it with me 🤗💜
I'm 60 and was whooping about like a big kid in my garden in Dorset. Can't , believe all of the UK was treated to such an amazing spectacle.
What a beautiful and magical experience, even though it was a little scary too. Lots of emotions but worth every moment in time 🌌 💜
Two wonderful things met. A WildBeare and Northern Lights. So glad you saw them :) Much love for you!
Hehe thanks! :) 💜
You were so blessed to see this and then be able to share with us 🙏 ✨️ 💕 i totally get how you may have felt on your own, with no one to talk to about it. Thanks Claire Bear 🐻 xx

I am also touched by all your thoughts and musings at the end of most videos, this one for sure. It was a beautiful night.
Beautiful to watch that.
You could see you were shocked, stunned by it, the brain trying to process something that doesn't seem normal or possible.
No wonder you stayed up until 3am watching it.
That's one memory you'll never forget, thank you for sharing it.
Beautiful footage ❤
I really didn't know what to make of it all 😄 so special. Thanks for sharing it with me :)

Something great about you is you reply to people and you reply pretty quickly.
That must be difficult because you have many and it must be crazy, you reach a point Shut up now, I need my wine.

I've seen it with smaller channels like mine, the ones smaller think that's how I need to do it. No you don't you 5 comments to say thank you to😁
I need no reply, honestly, you already have and than you. I would just watch before and not comment.
You are a good un. Never change😉👋💛
Amazing photography, Claire. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful scenery too.
Glorious photography! Thanks for sharing! 😊
The solar eclipse, extreme solar flair aurora borealis, are somethings that feels like it wakes up the inner connection within us that we have with mother Earth, and just makes us wanna live in that moment for as long as possible, I understand how you felt, when you said just watching the footage and it made you cry, being blessed by nature is very moving.
We got to experience this too in the beautiful PNW. awestruck!
So glad you saw it too 😃💚💙💜
The old Channel Four logo in the sky at the end was especially magical.
You are a true Sprite! It is rare for others like myself to be able to experience the Nature of Those like Your Self being as You are. I am grateful!
I just moved from Wales to the US a few weeks ago, seeing the northern lights are top of my bucket list, I'm so so sad I moved right before we got them in the UK. Thanks for sharing the beautiful footage of them!
Ahh what a shame, crazy to have them down here, and so intense 😮 hope you're settling nice over the pond :) 💜
We saw the northern lights in the Midwest! 😊
The recent (and significant) solar storm made the northern lights and the southern hemisphere equivalents something extraordinary this time round. They were visible from most parts of the world. Many of us might not see the likes of these again.
May I come and sit with you, on your hill, next time round? 😇 😃
Here in the southern hemisphere (Australia) we had our own version - they call it Aurora Australis - it was equally magnificent and I had the pleasure of observing from a remote and isolated place on top of a hill too. Just magnificent.
@@BillSaltbushsounds amazing 🤩 Hello 👋 from Poland 🇵🇱 and rural life ( channel)
The USA is in general much better to watch them then Europe. The geomagentical pole is not situated at the north pole. If you live north of 40 degrees in the USA you are in a better position than we in Europe at 50 degrees. People in states like Minnesota, Montana and North Dakota see these displays I think at least once or twice per year.
Those are breathtaking shots of the northern lights. Thank you so much for sharing!
You were in a perfect spot to witness such a fantastic aurora. It might have been a once in a lifetime experience. I'm 61 and have never seen such a strong aurora before the one that night. Thank you for sharing your experience.
This is lovely Claire. So glad you got to see it...
Experienced the Northern Lights in the Scottish highlands Friday night also. I’d never seen anything like it before either, the whole sky was illuminated with blends of reds, purples, greens and moved so quickly like a cosmic waterfall. Just stood for ages staring up at the night sky, and watching the changing shapes. It was so bright, even the ground was reflecting all the colours. Your video really does do it justice, and i’m glad you posted it for a permanent memory of nature’s beauty. Thank you for sharing.
I was on Isle of Skye Friday night and it felt like I was standing right below the Aurora "dome"(?) that is visible in the video. Breathtaking. Was my first time in Scotland too
So glad you got to see it too! Ahh man, it was something else wasn't it.. those big beams coming down were insane! Thanks for watching :)
Aye, the lassie did weel, didn't she?
@@otherworldly1034 it is called the corona. It means you are precisely under it. At some point here in The Netherlands you had to look to the south to see them! ANd that was surely also the case in Scotland and Wales.
8 X Class Solar Flares in a couple day span and your intuition took you to a perfect spot. You are very in tune Claire. Thanks for sharing it was cloudy where I live and I had hoped to see the Lights. It is a bigger stretch as I am further South in America than you are in Wales. Thanks again, get some rest! 😊
Some friends posted the Auroras in Australia and managed to get some great pictures not far from Melbourne so you might have seen it if it wasn't cloudy.
It really did, had no idea what was going on haha, sorry you missed them ☁️☁️💜
@@nsean479 Melbourne might not seem like a good place to watch them, but in reality it is not far worse than central Wales. The geomagentic poles are not situated on the geographical one. This means that New Zealnd en the USA are in a much better position to see them than people in Wales are. And Melbourne enjoys this advantage too to a lesser extend.
Congratulations on being out in the wild and getting to see one of natures most beautiful displays….
So happy you weren’t huddled up under a tarp in the pouring rain and missing out on this….lol 👍🏻💙🍻😎

What a crazy coincidence, but you go the experience of a lifetime. You could see it from everywhere even in the city where I'm from! So cool you got to document it. Those are memories forever!
I see this stuff up here all the time, and I'm so glad you've seen them and got them on video :)
The aurora is one of the main things that made me move up to the north coast.
Ahh that's amazing that you see them all the time! I've only seen them once before in Iceland and they were like a green smudge, couldn't believe the intensity of these 😍💜
@@WildBeare This really was a once in a lifetime thing. I don't think there's ever been a KP storm like this in my lifetime and I doubt there will be again.
I'm really pleased you were out on a camp that night though. I can't wait to see the full video :)
Thank God the batteries didn't fail you. Thanks for taking us all with you
This same event happened to me in 2013 while I was solo camping in South Central Utah. I crawled into my little tent about 10pm, opened my eyes a few moments later and the sky exploded with color that lasted 3 hours. I sat there awestruck and also wanted someone to share it with, but i too was out of cellphone range. Most incredible experience of my night as well.
Glad I could watch them with you from the other side of the globe.
💚💙💜
I wasn’t expecting it - I just went out to lock the garage before going to bed, saw an unusual whitish glow so got my phone to take a picture, and wow! I saw what you saw. So beautiful. I thought of Psalm 19 "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork." 😊
Amen to that. Bushyboy Oz
That was my experience of seeing the northern lights here in the Scottish Borders last year too. I'd heard and seen footage that the sky turns green and purple etc but all we saw with the naked eye was gradually moving vertical curtains of what looked like misty cloud. People put wonderful colourful pictures on the local facebook page of that night and I read that not everyone sees the colours without looking through a much more sensitive camera lens that brings out the colours. I didn't bother looking out on Saturday night but a lad told us on Sunday morning that he saw faint colours in the sky from his remote hillside home.

Just my luck. I was in Scotland, camping, knew about these but... I was knackered from going up a mountain so fell asleep while waiting in my tent. Also it was cloudy so not sure how well they would have been visible anyway. Ah well maybe next time. Great video as always.
Love the music you chose for your time lapse!
Truly humbling experience. Clare you are blessed being so lucky to witness the majesty & beauty of nature in all it's glory.
wow the best footage i have seen of the event , i have wanted to see them all my life and still missed this due to cloud , so thank you Claire you deserve the privilege of such a viewpoint
Here I am still kicking myself that I missed the report on the CME and thus didn't bother to go out and try to see however much we got, and turns out there are people who just happened to be in the perfect viewing spot for the greatest show in more than a century! Time to kick myself even HARDER and hope when that sunspot cluster makes it back around it gives me another chance.
Wow you captured that sky on film perfectly, best footage of the aurora I have seen.
You seemed unsure of what you found. Of what might happen.
Thanks for sharing what you found.
Many of us were forewarned and prepared, but still amazed and mesmerized. We had stupendous views in mid Ontario. That this was a surprise for you adds a whole new element. Thanks for sharing!
I have tried on many occasion to try and photograph the Northern lights from home in Derbyshire, I have once caught them on photo in Scotland without realising until I viewed the photos afterward. I am in a few Facebook aurora groups and have an app (Glendale Skye Aurora) although I appreciate that's not any use if you've no signal! With reports coming in of sightings quite far down country, I left my husband watching the kids and drove half a mile to park at the side of the road in the middle of Fields. I was very nervous as I was on my own, and watching the aurora and seeing the pinks and blues with my naked eye made me feel very emotional. I ended up ringing my husband to feel a little less lonely, and was just in awe and I wanted to share it with someone just like you, I was just banging on about him getting his head outside!
Thanks for sharing this and your comments. It was visible here in Australia for some but in Sydney we had overcast skies and rain during the event so have relied on the wonderful images provided and shared by others. Thanks again for all your work and how you share the simplicity and awe of the outdoors to keep us connected with our shared experience and reminder that we need to care for this delicate existence.
That was totally an amazing sight. Thank you for being there to share with us the wonderful display of lights in the sky. Never seen anything quite like it, ever.
Well whatever it is, you got to experience it firsthand!!! And thanks to your video I also get to experience it!!!!
Best coverage of an aurora event ever! Commentary and images gel into an amazing video that is a privilege to watch! Thank you for sharing Claire! Brilliant work!
Yeah - I suspect we may never see a solar storm like that again in our lifetime.
I’m at 41° N, 91° W, and the aurora was visible here as well. The vivid purple color indicated that it was indeed an intense solar storm. Your imagery is amazing and beautiful. Thanks.
Btw, I get replies that ask me to respond on Telegram, but I don’t use that app, because it seems a bit sketchy to me; I think it’s possibly someone trying to entice me somehow.
What an amazing experience being able to experience the fear and awe in the same way our ancestors might have felt when seeing something like this and not having any way of knowing what was going on. So glad you were filming that day and set up where you did. The shots you captured are magnificent!
Fate guided you to a front row light show courtesy of Mother Nature. 🥹 I got choked up, Claire. So breathtaking. There was too much light pollution here to catch it, but by God, you caught it right by the tail. Thank you so much for this remarkable footage. ❤️

That is so cool that you witnessed such an event without planning for it. This was one of your best videos yet. Your honesty about how emotional you were about seeing them was delightful. I always look forward to new content from you!
Wow, I’ve got to say Claire that was one incredible video. I live in the astrophotography / aurora-chasing community and vlog about this sort of stuff all the time (and last Friday was truly sensational). But to see the authentic reaction of someone, out in the wild, witnessing what was unfolding without an internet connection to check it all out, was truly remarkable. So glad you got to see it, in such a special place, and thanks for sharing. Definitely one of the best aurora videos of the dozens that I’ve watched!! Have a great day. Paul.

Wish you could have just enjoyed it without all the worry. Northern lights are beautiful. They don't always look like that, but they are always just as beautiful!
So intense 😮 beautiful, wonderful to share this with you 🙂 not sure how I would have felt witnessing this as you did. 🙌
So cool that you captured it! It's always a gift when the Aurora Borealis appear, I also captured this event where I live but it always appears to be the green hue, I guess it's geological location. I have never seen pink and purple WOW! beautiful!
Living in Northern Canada, we see Northern lights often, but that night they were absolutely spectacular!!! So glad you were able to enjoy such a show!
