I would like to think that is wasn’t a hallucination. But there are multiple signs of it. Zack still wearing the clothes he was wearing in the building, those would’ve been switched out for prison orange. And his scythe....it broke during their escape. She was so invested in fulfilling her promise that her mind created the perfect scenario.......

I fell in love with how the art is shown through the scenery. My heart nearly broke when Zach returned to Rachel and she has that light return to her eyes. This anime is definitely going to be on my “Most Favorite” list. Also, the song fits perfectly with Zach’s confession in the end...😍😍😍😍

This anime deserves a special episode to ease our hearts 🥺 anyways, here is my very own ending:
Zack died first but before he leaves for afterworld, he wants to fulfil his vow to Ray. On the other hand, when Ray found out that Zack was sentenced to death, she knew that she can't do anything about it anymore. She also said that she will shoulder their vows alone and Zack doesn't need to fulfil his promise. So, she committed suicide. Why suicide? Since Ray knew that there's no god and Zack is not her god then there's nothing to stop her from killing herself. She kills herself after she found out about Zack's.
The moment Ray closed her eyes, that's the indication that she kills herself. Ray is a smart kid and planned her suicide well. Notice that she found out about Zack's execution in the morning or noon. Then the doctor said it to her in the evening. Ray has a plenty of time to do or put some traps for her suicide plan just like how she did to her own floor. That's why there's a blood in the window. Another thing is she maybe used her knife to atleast make some damage on her window from the inside so that her 'traps' can easily break the iron and glasses. Most likely, she stands in her window and ready for the final strike from her own traps and her body falls off the building.
Then, there's the girl screaming before Ray opened her eyes. That scream is from her psychiatrist doctor who found Ray's body in a critical condition. Yes critical condition only. There is still a faint of life on her.
After the scream, Ray opened her eyes a little bit. Then the second time she opened her eyes, she seems shocked and at dazed wondering why she's still alive when she committed suicide already. The truth is her soul is still in the bedroom and she's not yet dead. That's when Zack came in. Zack is dead already but he swore to Ray that he'll be the one to kill her. That's how Zack got his scythe back and was able to float in the air with Ray. So, Zack basically take Ray's soul away. In the end, he still kills her by getting her soul because he never agreed to let Ray take their vow on her own. Both of them died and fulfill their promises.

I like to imagine that Zack...at the end...instead kept on the run with Ray, and she wonders why he keeps putting off killing her...he's coming to terms with how he feels for her. And their crazy journey keeps up for a few years (as they make plenty of enemies...and surprisingly the occasional friend)...before the law catches up with them again.
And Zack finally confesses to Ray...that he couldn't live without her...
(That's just what my heart wants, though. I want to ship them, but I also want to see them both grow up more [especially so that Ray can outgrow being a loli]...and I want to see their journey through all that, and with a few odd friends that actually WANT to see them make it....)
That'll be interesting to see this!! I doubt they gonna make season 2 :/

that anime was mentally beautiful and physically disturbing and i loved it. by far one of the best animes ever created it deserves more love
The viscerally disturbing and yet comforting story behind angels of death absolutely fascinates me. The issues it tackles are so twisted, utter hopelessness taken in a direction where falling further into despair ironically incites hope, defining purity outside of the 'good' type we usually perceive, and having an undefineable relationship so reliant on it that it shifts to a virtually religious and necessary attraction. It's the perfect definition of agape. Their relationship isn't love or hate or familial. It's entirely based on Rachel's trust and devotion to Zack and his unaltered, untainted purpose.

the game which is the source material ended with the same open ending so there will be no season 2. ironically the dub of the anime is more faithful to the game than the sub.
This series spoke a lot about the depth of our human soul. Despite their problems and issues they still cared for each other, there was still something in them that wasn’t toxic or sullied.

It's obvious that they love each other. Rachel had many chances of being killed but she stayed alive and asked Zack to kill her. Zack could have broken the promise to kill her but he came back (srry for my english btw)
So after some time of exploring the web i actually found a few theories bout the ending.
1 is that Rachel was halucinating it all, but then again the bars outside her window dont really add up because she woulndt be able to break them herself from the inside of they were outside.
2 is that they both died together.
3 is that they both survived the fall and ran away together, which i heard that the creators did confirm they said that there WAS blood, but no sign of their bodies. I like to believe in that one, yall can have ur theories its fun to talk and discuss ur opinions, maybe i havent said all the theories. These are just the ones i see oftenly

They are alive! First Zack would not be able to find Ray by himself so Gray had to help him even had the same clothes so Gray had to help him! Second Ray couldn't kill herself cause she is not so strong enough to break bars on windows! And also there would be only one police car and ambulance car! Third Zack wouldn't kill her since even if what he said he would regret it after! And also if would Zack kill her there would be also ambulance car and there were only polices cars so nope they for sure ran away
I love this anime! and the ending made me cry so hard! Every one says that Zack and Ray ran away together but the true ending is so sad! When Zack and Ray jump out the window together Zack stabs Ray after she smiles and then Zack dies from falling out the window with Ray in his arms! so sad but romantic!! T^T
