One of the greatest things about the Tops is that they are truly a group. They answer Dick's questions as if they're all thinking the same thing. No looking to each other for answers, no fumbling for words, they're all in sync, on the same page. Just goes to show what 28 years together will do. Rest in peace, fellas, and Duke, keep on going strong.
Agreed, and well said...
Lead singer Levi Stubbs was offered solo recording contracts many times. He always
turned them down. He could have gone out on his own and made millions, but he
valued his friends more than that. It speaks volumes for the man. I'm happy Duke continues to tour with the newer members because I never want this music to die.
Exactly. And later when he was so sick they don´t let him down.
Levi was offered the male lead in Lady Sings The Blues, but turned that down because I believe the producers of the movie said that they had no intention of including the other Tops in the movie. Levi declined the role. Billy Dee Williams ended up getting the role, and co-starring in the movie with Diana Ross.
@@RangeRover1961 You beat me to the punch about being offered the Lady Sings the Blues role. That combined with his many offers to go solo and leave the Four Tops speaks volumes about Levi's character. We need more Levi Stubbs in the world
Greg Messina i think thats why hes credited in Little Shop Of Horrors as “Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops”. I bet he insisted on it, so the groups name would also be seen.
He sounds like he was really a great guy and didn't let his sucess go to his head. They all seem like good guys. Nice to see.
Pefect example of Brotherly love.
sherrod000 Dont pay the Bills..
What a lovely interview by the lovely Four Tops no Rudeness no Crudeness what Gents xxx
Sharon D My thoughts exactly☺
The fact that these guys could stay together for over 40 years without a personnel change speaks volumes about their character.
This interview was really amazing. They were the right questions and I love that Dick Clark didn't just talk to one person, as interviewers are apt to do with a group but directed questions to each member of the group.
I want to see a movie about the 4 Tops that would be a beautiful story.
Anthony Patterson I've been hoping for the same thing! A movie about the lives of The Four Tops!
I am looking for one as I type this lol
That be great.
Me as well! Good as the Temptations and the Jacksons.
People wouldn’t watch it. They were never in any turmoil or trouble; unlike some he temptations.
The 4 tops don’t have a juicy story to tell. The temptations did. The tops were kind of squeaky clean
This interview just sums them up perfectly. It tells you why they stayed together so very long. And it tells you just why they are the best LOVED of all the Motown artists. Easily my favourite group of all time.
They were together for 44 years without a personnel change.
They were all life long friends from childhood.
Beautiful testimony of true friendship!
You won't find groups like The Four Tops now and days. everyone now wants to be on their own, a superstar on their own, everyone is individualistic and let their egos get in the way, and break up. The Four Tops weren't a bunch of guys singing together, they were actual friends, so they shared that bond. They suffered together for years before they made it, so when they made it, they were able to handle success. The Tops will go down in history as the longest group to be together in music history
what a great bunch of guys and so lucky to be friends with each other
GOT TO MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THESE 4 great men's love it
A class act all the way down the line, and the band and the three who have passed are sorely missed. Thank the Lord we have UA-cam. Thank you gentlemen for exquisite music delivered with grace and emotion.
Levi's voice was a force of nature and gift from God, and as a team they were a total testament to faith, friendship and talent - which means, as a result, WE were/are so blessed 💙💜🇺🇸👏🇺🇸❤💚
These men achieved something so rare in our world... perfection!
I agree 100%
Must be one of the best quartets of all time.
I'm a 69yo male Aussie & still love these guys.
...they were all so close, I cherish their lives.
Beautiful interview
Those men are legends historic moments forged by the love of there band celebrated the human potential to achieve excellance
When you like somebody,i feel that's even stronger then love! Because if you love a person but dont really like them, the love could face away!! These guys LIKE each other🙏🖤
I wish I had a friendship like theirs
Wonderful talented men, we dont get many acts like this in a lifetime
It's 2019 now "still enjoying the four tops music.🎶😌
I second what Dick Clark said at the end 'WE THANK YOU!' We remember the three who have passed, and thank the Heaven's for Duke being with us; and I can't wait to read his book 'The Four of Us: My Life with the Four Tops' to be released May 5th 2022 - I have it pre-ordered.
Big 80’s comeback for the Tops!
Class act!!! The Four Tops were not only phenomenal vocalists but extraordinary men!!
That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Dick Clark handled that interview very well asking all the right questions in such a short amount of time not every person doing an interview can handle it like that and same for the Tops they did a real good job answering him you could tell nothing was rehearsed or talked about backstage before they did the interview not like now where the person doing the interview is told backstage what they can and cannot ask on stage makes for a f**d up interview to me
Just beautiful. I love them. Re friends and great musicians.
In that business you just don't find that much love. Beautiful! Now will someone PLEASE make a movie about these guys!!!!?????
They, are the best
wow...they started in the 50's.....amazing they were a group for so long...it must be some kind of record .I recently got into them cuz my gran was playing renee n I liked it a lot...so much great music from them days its sick =)
I assume you are are referring to the group's re-make of the song "Walk Away Renee", which was originally recorded by The Left Banke on the Smash Records label. Motown artists used to do a lot of re-makes. Some of them worked well and others just sounded like weak album filler cuts. The 4 Tops version of "Walk Away Renee" is as good as the original. I just heard it used in a movie recently. I think they used it in the Merchant-Ivory movie "Call Me By Your Name" and it sounded great as ever. What a great vocalist Levi Stubbs was!
Love these guys☺ Dick Clark was cool too👍
My Favorites... FOUREVER !!!!
Class acts, one and all. Always been a big fan of these guys. Duke Fakir is still kickin'. Wow!
What a beautiful interview!!
A set of bad dudes!!!! 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽
friends forever. Example for all of us
amen
It's so sad that there is only 1 living original Top, only 1 original Temptation, only 1 original Spinner, the great groups of the 60s and 70s are dying off
And as we get older we'll be leaving here also that's why I spend all the time I have with my kids just enjoy the moments we have in this wonderful life GOD BLESS the FOUR TOP'S
Cancer took Lawrence, Levy, and Obie. Gone to soon.
Actually, all of the original spinners is dead except for GC Cameron. He is actually a minister.
@@kayandaeddings4803 that's what he/ or she said.
@@kayandaeddings4803 Henry Fambourogh is actually the last original Spinner. G.C. Cameron only sang on It's a Shame in 1970.
I love that nobody ever got top billing and they never changed their lineup. That puts them in a league all their own.
MelodyMaker151 yeah Broke
@@samthesham5294 Well they got plenty of money. What you got???
"The Four Tops" One of the greatest singing groups ever!!!!!
The 4tops they are legends in their own right and I'm glad that they stayed together till the beginning of the four tops until with 1 original member remaining still performing
This proves what i always say, the strength in anything is UNITY. They were like brothers. It came across onstage. I think that’s what the audience loved bout them. They were more beloved than the Temps.
Incredible I'm so amazed at the talent that God could create.
♥️♥️♥️♥️ - I love watching this interview!!
I love thier commitment.
What a great voice Levi Stubbs had perfect for Audrey ii
Four Tops over The Temptations any day of the week
Levi stubbs what a ledg
Greatness and class acts
Such legendary dudes
Love their music
The last surviving member of the 4 tops Duke Fakir has passed away now they all are back together again in Heaven! 😢😢😢
The great levi levi Stubbs
I miss it!!!!!!!
it's not often that you find a group that are all practically the same height
It was a family for sure
They need to bring back real dancing and these type of shows.
What's different from Soul Train, performers get to do a song, then a brief interview, with occasional joking, then another song. Don stood behind the Soul Train marquee, Dick sat in the audience mingling with the audience, and shows the album cover of the stage performer. Unlike ST, Bandstand didn't do any history book in between shows.
Nice,wayne beautiful
XXX
Levi Stubbs had the Lions voice of Motown.
αμοιβονια, translating to "reciprocity, fellow feeling & cooperation",
i.e. "camaraderie".
Motherbrain (Levi Stubbs) seems to have a good voice🙂🙂🙂
They just don't make them like that anymore including Dick Clark now those was the day's ☺
none have brow ridges
Snoop dogg’s dad was a treat
