Not only television but it was the last great time America will ever see!!! I'd never have imagined that I was growing up at such an incredible time and in such an amazing place. South Brooklyn was like Mayberry back then and I didn't even realize at the time all the history I was right in the middle of, I lived right in the middle of Mafia Town with notorious people all around me and I've seen quite a few things growing up, ahhhh it was all such a blast looking back, God I miss it all so much even with all the bad, nothing is worse than what's happening today😢
Don't despair Bill. As we age our memories play tricks on us and make us think our youth was golden. Yes the world seems broken, but there are good people out there and good will prevail.
I miss this kind of television so much!!! Those were the days when performers really made their mark in their career. Simple but ever so entertaining😊👍❤
@@agomodernmaybe they mean it like "pure" - real musicians, real singers, no autotuning and crazy lights and digital backgrounds and flamepots and whatever. Just simple, authentic, refined human talent.
I have no words to say how much I needed that today. Sammy is magical, magnificiently talented, and a complete charm of charisma. Might as well have Carson cone to his mini-concert. Sammy continues to live on in these incredible recordings and videos. One of, if not the greatest Rat Pack in entertainment!
Who misses classy TV line ups? The clothes, the swag, the clean dialogues, the intelligence. SO much of the advent of REAL talent in “Hollywood” came through Johnny and the brilliance of the his producers. Lost. On. America. Today.
I miss Johnny Carson and all of the stars of that era also. What memories! They will never be replaced. Good clean fun. Thank you for posting this gem!
Here in Ireland we never received this show and it's only through the power of UA-cam I've discovered johnny Carson. What a joy to watch these nuggets. I can see how he was adored and greatly missed by the American people.
Those of us from that era, IMO, took the talent we were surrounded with SO much for granted. At least I know I did. Imagine a ho-hum response to a Sammy Davis, A Sinatra, a Dean Martin, etc appearing on stage, on the Tonight Show, etc. We were so very, very blessed.
For years, whenever i watched the Tonight Show over the Johnny hears, "they" would talk about what a great band of musicians. I didn't notice. Know how to tell you're old? When you can listen to Sammy sing and hear the band behind, and the little guitar solos and realize what a great band of musicians they were.
Those were the days. I was a kid in the 50s and a teen in the 60s so I was a kid growing up with the performers of my parents’ generation. I fell in love with some line Sammy, Judy, Gene Kelly and still respect them to this day. I did get to see Judy live and remained a fan through my adult years. She was my first live concert . I was about 10. She was magical. I wish I had seen Sammy.
What can anyone not say what a Great Entertainer Sammy was! Then you hsve Johnny Carson! This was a time when Entertainers were so Outstanding! We will never see their like again! Davis Jr. could do it all !!
The experience you're left with after watching the Tonight show was so genuine, like you got to know these people just a bit. No other show has ever made me feel that way
Damn, imagine missing that episode back then! No UA-cam to view it the next day. I would have been pissed if I missed this episode 🤣 Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. The Consummate Performer 👏🏾
I still bust a gut every time I see the episode of All in the family when Sammy Davis Jr was on it and the look of Archey’d face when Sammy planted a kiss on his cheek. What a classic.
A different time. Super talented stars like Sammy Davis JR, who should be remembered for his contributions to post WWll entertainment, which was critically important for America to heal from.
It was just a very different era when entertainers had the incredible talent of a Sammy Davis Jr. And on top of all that he made it look so easy and natural. RIP Mr.Davis - the world lost a true giant when you left it too soon.
sammy was the coolest dude bar none of his time, and it was natural no fluff and facade. one of the saddest things i've ever heard about him was that even after he made it his biggest fear was of dying broke.
I was also glad to hear him mention Christopher Lee. I remember Lee having an awful hair style in the movie. I guess that is what happens when you play the devil.
Humble days,we will never see the like again❤
Have to give Carson props. Never tries to upstage his guests. Knows how to draw them out so they shine
I miss seeing performers do their thing so purely. Sammy. Mic. Band. No glam, no schlock, just pure talent shining.
I couldn’t agree more the only props he has was a cigarette a cocktail and a microphone. I truly miss those performers.
Bingo !!! Stone Talent ! Rap Crap could NOT hold a candle to This kind of REAL TALENT. The, band is killer, good Gosh-A-Mighty what educated Talent !!

Terrible nighttime shows now, I haven’t watched for years.
One of his many qualities was he could adapt differently to each guest and change his approach if it wasn’t going well. Real smart guy.

Sammy Davis jr. Was like a five tool player in baseball. He could do it all. What a legend. RIP candy man you are sorely missed.
Totalclassact.
The voice and the clear pronounciation of the lyrics have always been his fortes! Funny, grateful and talented! Rip.
Absolutely the most talented, well-rounded, extra-ordinary performer of his generation!!!!!!
So true
Not sure about that. Who were his contemporaries? I think Sean Connery was more talented, as was Chuck Connors.
I didn’t know Connery sang and danced.

What a wonderful rendition of 'In the still of the night'- Sammy's voice was one of a kind!

Him and the rat pack
Ever! Hands down.
Simply marvelous. A prime example of what "slaying it" really means. Spectacular performance and then casually walks back to take a seat. Incredible.
Sammy could really sing. Great enunciation, which I miss from today’s singers. And personality galore.
An incomparable talent backed by an amazing band and spectacular arrangement to whom he pays due respect! ❤
Unfortunately we no longer have talent like those form the era of Johnny Carson. RIP to all the entertainers of days gone by.

What a performer, no one like him anymore.
Sammy’s sheer intelligence was almost always overlooked.
Sammy was great! This performance is pure fantastic jazz. His rendition of "Birth Of The Blues" is the best ever!
There is nothing like the great old singers. Music today is just not the same.
Always blows my mind hearing that larger than life voice coming out of such a small man. What a legend he was.
This shows that you can be a little guy and be successful and loved.
This was the America I grew up loving. How naive I was.
Class act as always. Sammy thought of himself as just another guy, but was on top of the charts.
He was so humble on top of his talent like no other .. I got live during these days so lucky!
