The tone is so clean it can kill 99.99 percent of germs
And not a mask to ever be seen again......
Clinically proven to fight Covid AND germs that may cause bad breath
🤣
*What about the 0.11111111111111111111111111% hmm?*
You said that on a SRV video.. go wash your hands man.
His guitar leads are cleaner than my house.....what a perfectionist.....
@asas LOL
But what if your house isn’t clean...
clean,,,,very clean.........
@asas funk man! why? he deserve a Harpic
R D hahah
I miss the prime EJ days of the 90’s-2000 era. I’m glad I was alive and got to see him often during this time. Such a classic song.
Better than the studio version. Credit to the bass player and drummer. They compliment Johnson's performance perfectly.
Do you know the drummers name??
@@elvenenodrums Brannen Temple
I totally agree with u man.. their grooves are amazing.. what a masterpiece!
EJ at the height of his powers with Brannen Temple on drums and Roscoe Beck on bass. Mid 90s is when I discovered him. So grateful!
what about the keyboard player lol
This is by far, the best version of Manhattan. Pure Gold.
Pure gold, perfect resume
Check out Andrey Korolev - Manhattan :)
I absolutely agree
Also the version that made the album
@EJ fan onearth lol, you sound like kid... check his channel
the most underrated bassist of entire G3 universe. He killing it, the best Manhattan version ever.
One day I put this video, in the bar where I worked, Luis Mariutti (Bassist of Angra/Shaman) was there and was impressed with this bass player.
Roscoe Beck
Eric always has had a superb bassist. Kyle Brock is a badass and Chris Marsch is dang good as well. His best drummer is Tommy Taylor but Brennon Temple sounds excellent here and gets my approval.
03:58 wow
Catch Roscoe laying it down on several of robben Ford's albums , definitely underrated but his bio says otherwise !
Who else is here in 2024 ? And from which country ?
Just saw him tonight in LA ❤

I remember being into Satriani, Malmsteen and Vai as a teen. Then I watched this G3 performance with Eric and it changed me. Now As a nearly 40 year old, with a music degree in jazz and a full-time music teaching job, it's a bit harder to knock my socks off. But this guy and this particular performance continues to melt my face every time I hear it, without fail. The most unique lead sound on a strat I've ever heard. Not to mention the most considered melodies. The more you learn, the more you can appreciate Eric.
First time I heard Cliffs of Dover back in the early 90s I cried.
@@kennethrabin9556 I actually saw EJ on the Rush, roll the bones tour as their warmup. I have been a fan ever since.
eric is in my opinion, really the only dude that comes to mind who can make the pentatonic scale sound exotic and expensive
Try Joyce Cooling, she's got some serious chops
@@bobhampt Me too.
Eric Johnson rides a near perfect balance in his playing... he’ll shred your face off... and be downright polite in doing so. EJ forever!
I'd be honored if some fans of Eric Johnson's vocal compositions would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of FORTY MILE TOWN on my YT in tribute to one of the purest musical artists that the USA has ever produced. Live acoustic with no digital enhancements. Peace & stay safe.
Most of us guitar players can only dream of ever achieving such a level of performance.
Let's be honest... There is only one who can achieve such a level of performance.
He's the original. Of course there are 10,0000 of classic guitarlists who play technically far better than him, but he's unique in his own ways.
Watching this performance along with any of his other live shows, i just keep asking myself how does he do it. Ive been playing guitar for a long time so i understand what hes playing (to an extent), but he has such a nice feel to every note he plays. His control of tone and the master volume is just bang on. By far one of the greats
@@munetoshiyamasaki7536 wrong
Why? Iam EJ fan and Ibought his recent record. My comment is nothing but compliament.
The speed of Johnsons soloing along with the accuracy, timing, tone, he’s just flawless
1:08 The most beautiful pentatonic lick in history
absolutely agree
this is the tender surrender of eric johnson
More like Tender Surrender is Steve Vai’s Manhattan
@@adriankovacs4133 what came first? either way they are both masterpieces and truly define the potential of the guitar.
I’d say Lonely In The Night is EJ’s Tender Surrender more than Manhattan. But it’s still a killer track.
@@GDIEternal Amen to that, the whole track is “sultry” and the playing in it……unreal
Meant lead playing
That slap on the bass makes this song even better, simply the best version of this song
Amen dude, this is my favourite version, and the rhythm section elevates it
Yes Roscoe Beck has great feel.
sounds so much better here than in the studio version
Mariano Camacho on the 1997 G3 live in concert album, they’ve spliced together this song from different nights. You can hear the same voices in the crowd on some parts but the bass and solo is different in others. Check it out it’s still really good. I never would’ve known it though unless I’d found this video b
@@stratosaurusrex3399 you have a good ear and taste bro. Yes, I know the audio (CD version) and this video has a little different sound, even Eric's solo and some guitar in the last part is different. Both versions are good!
Killer guitar work by Eric and Roscoe is just CRUISIN' on the bass. Magnificent!
Fdzz
Omg that freaking bass so delicious!!!!!!!!!
Yup! 2:25 is like… unreachable!
I first heard this age 15 now 35, it still gets me every time, he's a genius, nobody else sounds like him.
G3 was the first concert I ever went to, I'm turning 35 in a couple months so I know exactly how you feel.
@@Jonjzi that's cool, I remember not being able to go and was gutted, but I am hoping to see him on the new G3 tour 20th anniversary.
Exactly same story here! When I rewatch it I still can feel what it felt to be 15 and starting to discover such amazing music...
I'm with you. I 100% get what you write!
Good
this is top level guitar playing.
this version is even better ua-cam.com/video/LP5jKELGT4g/v-deo.html
@@drcl7429 this is version and jack's version are the bests versions..
@D Rcl Hoping seriously you’re just jokin. Though Thammarat is really a great guitarist of today generation.
@@drcl7429 Nah, it doesn't sounds as good as the original version.
@@drcl7429 unless tamarat can make it his own versions...maybe....???
Eric tells a whole story without saying a single word in most of his songs. This is among his best work.
The Wes/Jimi octaves, the pick hiding, strumming up the neck, God knows how tone, EJ composition and chops. Great drummer and Roscoe. So good.
Imagine on your dying day knowing you’ve added this much to the world?
PEOPLE- perfection doesnt exist
ME- shows eric johnson playing👌
The band is a pure finesse... makes me want to eat the sound... so smooth
I don't even bother in listening the studio version, this one is sooo nice, soo smoth!
"eat the sound" now that's an amazing and peculiar expression, totally agree!
Nearly as smooth as Eric's hair
I still close my eyes like I did when was 17 years old back in the 90s pretending to play the guitar in front of a huge crowd every time I hear this masterpiece.
Players like Eric are rare. He and guys like Robben Ford play in a way that is very deliberate and calculated while also managing not to micromanage the natural flow out of the riffs. I’m not sure if that makes sense but that’s the best way I can put it. Played beautifully and squeaky clean without sounding sterile.
tastful shredding
Alan Holdsworth too id place in that category
Makes perfect sense...well put..🎵👍👍
Holdsworth needs a nod here too..
@@kikojavier3804 100%
I know Eric is the focus here ...but man ...those bass lines are just amazing!!!
Roscoe Beck.
This is how a proper sound engineer does their job. Finesse
You've got to have massive respect for how controlled Eric's playing is. It's an incredible thing to behold.
Everyone bought tickets to see Vai e Satriani, but
were blown away by Eric Johnson's leads and stelar tones !!!
I met Eric many years ago. One of the most genuine and humble souls. An angelic guitarist.
I have played '''at'''' the guitar for over 59 years.....this guy is at a level of another planet...why? '''many '''shred'''' but Eric not only can shred, he brings beauty, taste, and last but not least, a smoothness not may have accomplished....from the days of ''moonlight in vermont''' as only Johnny Smith played, to Eric...i stand and applaud him !!!
I consider this the perfect guitar song. Not only for the inspired composition, but for the exquisite and perfect playing of this guitar master. It's so varied that it's impossible to get bored even after listening to it a million of times. Every guitar player should listen to this magistral song and will learn a lot! By the way, the clean tone of the guitar really kills me.
Totally agree.
What a gorgeous composition. That slide solo is divine. This guy is too slick
not gonna lie I came here in search for songs like Steve Vai's Tender Surrender, and I'm glad I found this
The bass tone is just beautiful, and it complements the guitar very well. Eric's Beautiful and Great Song
The drumming is real smooth as well, accenting the right spots perfectly
My doctor recommends this to me so that my ears are healthy
LOL
It's a pleasure listening to this piece after hard day's of work.
Very good sound. 👍👍
My shrink recommended this to me.
This actually cured my depression.
Eric is a rare breed, one of the few players that have a unique language
So that’s what a strat sounds like. ❤️
His accuracy.. it's just not of this earth
and yet so smooth and so pleasing to the ears. Absolutely phenomenal
I know! I haven't watched many live videos of his playing, but that's the first thing I noticed; the precision with which he plays is incredible to say the least. Of course the second thing I noticed was that tone so clean you could bleach clothes with it.
Yeah it's of planet 9
He's from venus isle
Eric has intense feels the way he plays! Btw guys Our first track "inner dimensions" is out and we hope we did our mentor proud!

This is the reason why I started playing drums, thank you Brannen Temple.
This is the song that plays in the elevator when ascending to heaven
Texas has some bad ass mfkin guitarists
22 years after, and still gives me chills.
Bass player MVP.
Damn son, he got the muse in him.
There are many "one-of-a-kind" players in music. Eric, is one of them
Eric shredding us into the Unseen Realm !!!!!!
How he makes the strat sound like that is beyond me. Thing sings like some jazz guitar and it's glorious
chorus,delay,reverb.compression and ofcourse ejs hands
Eric Johnson, musical genius and one of the greatest guitarists ever, love this song.
He is about the best in my book.
Him and Steve Vai
We are lucky to witness a legend alive and see him play.
masterpiece :-)
@Sumit ogah

Zgadzam się🤘
@ROBERTO ADRIAN GOMEZ MARTINEZ como que no? jajaja
masterofcake :-)
I was very much into Vai and Satriani but these days I only listen to Eric Johnson....
The Bass Player was awesome. The slap part was just in the perfect time which made the song even better!
The magic from his playing. I also love how much the bassist is getting down.
You can't help but smile whenever you listen to Eric Johnson. As a guitar enthusiast and hobby lead player myself, i smile to myself a lot when i listen to Eric. He knew the fretboard truly in his own way. Like Jeff Beck.
The bass guitar is just smokin' hot!! I love that sound so much! What a great combination all around! Bass and drums in a great groove, and what can I say about Eric? Just phenomenal!!
Roscoe Beck is the Bass Player
@@elcapitanneurona - Roscoe played with Robben Ford too, I believe. Outstanding player!!
@@soujrnr yes! He was his bass player! Outstanding player
Still a benchmark album after 26 years. That thing was life changing for me.
i've watched every video of eric johnson and THIS gotta be the BEST hairstyle he ever HAD!
Eric is the soul of guitar.. without him guitar is dead.
Timeless one of the greatest guitarists to ever touch a Stratocaster !
G.O.A.T

one of the best recorded guitar performances ever.
Eric Johnson is the Easiest Guitar Player i've ever seen! KEEP ON PLAY COOL GUITAR BROO...!! 🤘😎🎸
All of this is astonishing
christ, that solo is one of the most beautifully composed and executed ive seen. Eric is a veritable compendium of techniques, all of which he is a master. Insane lines.
I remember watching this as a kid and instantly hooked on Eric's playing
Same!!
this theme brought tears to my eyes *-*
NO ONE "SINGS" WITH HIS GUITAR AS ERIC !!!!!! HIS SOUND, FLUIDITY, EMOTION...I M A FAN SINCE 1992 AND I M NEVER BORED WHEN LISTENING TO HIM...HE IS SO CREATIV, ALWAYS SEARCHING THE UNKNOWN IN HIS PLAYING....Thanks so much Eric for sharing and giving us what you give : your heart and its musical purity....
Best version of Manhattan
Listen to the bass on this song really compliments Eric’s guitar 🎸
1996 Live... 24 years ago? Can you believe it? I had a chance to know Eric Johnson by this G3 album back in 1998. Thanks for G3.
i realised that the star of G3 was Eric Johnson, not JS nor SV... his guitar works and tone was phenomenal... so fresh yet different from both two others... anyway it was the best G3 line-up of all time. JS, EJ & SV... legends
2020 has come and here we are listening to this again and again and again
Last day of 2020...listening today.
His playing is flawless just plug in your headphones and close your eyes your soul will fly into another dimension ❤
The first G3 and still the best. I thought Johnson was easily the best performer on the night.
Anyone hear a mistake not me beyond a hero. Joe Bonamasa said when he saw him there is no way I will ever reach that level. And Joe is correct. Eric is a wizard
4:40 gives me goosebumps every time
Me too Josh! I was feeling that just before I read your comment!
So great!!! A magician on guitar AND the ability to make a slide appear and disappear without a trace!
The Tone is clean his hairstyle is clean his outfit is clean, Mr Clean !
If this isn't the most perfect guitar tone on the universe, I don't know what could be.
the bass and drums sounds are even superb during this live performance, well done!
Hands down the best version of this song.
Funk, Jazz,Rock,Blues, Classical music(dynamics, crescendos, diminuendos, accelerando, ritardando), Country( chicken picking) , Slide guitar, shredding guitar, Eric Johnson is a musical polyglot and he can speak all these musical languages simultaneously and fluently, THIS IS SICK !.
This guy is a phenome. Holy f##k. Blows me Away!
Flawless. Unique way to play the pentatonic scales.. Great performance.
amazing technique and tone. eric johnson is one of the greatest. truly amazing.
And Lydian Mode.
Not just only pentatonic actually. Including Lydian mode etc.
Pentatonic scales, if this is how you understand music I am sorry for you, this is musical expression, do you understand music is not an Olympic event?
@@Deliquescentinsight Correct. Majority of the great musicians don't think about what scale they are using. What they are doing is playing the sounds that are in their head through the guitar. Its amazing how so many people seem to bypass that.
The bass on this version is groooooovy
That's the cleanest tone I've heard in any live concerts
He murdered anyone with His tone !
This version was the first I heard (by the way, the best G3), and, to me, it would never sound as fantastic as in this gig. Sometimes, this kind of things happen in music, the right place, the right moment.
Yes! This G3 version was the first I heard of this song, and this artist, so this is my sentimental favourite version (really enjoyed the Joe section at the beginning of the show too - wish I still had the DVD).
The only one that could surpass it is the G3 album version which is basically the same with a couple of changes, that in my opinion, make it even better than this one 👍
@@elmarce1983 This song completely blows away both Joe and Steve's entire sets imo.
How does it work with the changes? Are pieces of the live recording taken out an re-recorded and merged?
The most calming song i've ever heard in my life
Underrated guitarist
That velvety lead tone of his is so f'n tasty. Enough drive to get the sustain but still sounds so clean.
EJ absolutely smoke Satch and Vai that night. After watching it, I wwnt from a Vai-type fan to a massive EJ fan, sumply because of EJ's tone and his playing.
if you love music. You have to hear this song.
My all time favorite EJ song! This live version is way better than the studio version, IMO. One of the best things about this particular G3 live was because of this song. Long gone are the days when I’d own G3 live DVDs, concerts, making attempts to play like Vai, Satriani and Eric. Good times with great music from these masters.
Listen to the Masters of Acoustic Guitar CD(or if not CD now, see if you can find those on UA-cam). Eric played this beautiful song called A Song For Life. I highly recommend!
Eric is a master. He plays so clean and that tone. His phrasing with chords and the like are unreal.
Perfect, smothest ever.

What a song guys, this is the G3 tour in 1996 with Satriani and Vai. I’m still listening ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely beautiful guitar playing, not rushed nor a million notes per second. His style is instantly recognisable
