Was my first reaction as well. The reason so many live recordings sound bad is the sound is done first and foremost for the live audience and the people doing the sound for the recording are often video production people.

I've always loved the fact that Steve doesnt shy away from expressing himself via his facial expressions & how he moves his body... I know there is this school of thought that one particular guitarist or any musician is the greatest out of them all but i dont go down that route as they are all amazing & we should appreciate what they do without using elitist ways of describing one is better than the other... I could easily type in a list of lead guitarist that have blown me away over 4 plus decades but I'll never class any one of those guitarists as being better than another... My first guitar was an IBANEZ over 37 years ago when i first bought it and played it. I still have it and it is my go to guitar for everything. I love the way it feels and it's own distinct sounds with the original pickups, still going strong.

I've been playing guitar for 20 years and he's the best I have ever heard. I'm not even really sure if I have even heard anyone come close. I mean he is 100% on his game every time he plays. Whether it was 20 years ago or 2 years ago, he never even misses a note. He probably never had a drink or did a drug in his life

Steve, you have always been one of my favorite guitar players ever since I bought Flex-Able from shapnel records back in 1985 and of course the movie crossroads. However, for me, I have never heard a better version of this song other than the one you put on the album Alien Love Secrets. That was the perfect way to play it and it could never get any better that that, just my opinion. Thank you for all the great music you gave us and continue to give us. And just to be clear no matter how you play it, it's always badass!

evo has a neck pickup which i see in the vids where he plays evo he uses that neck pickup flo II and III have a sustaner not humbucking pickup with single coil next to it if anything its more treble not muted
Well, EVO and FLO III have the same pickups so they sound really alike. I think his sound in this performance has more to do with the way his amp is set up. Plus FLO III has a sustainer in the neck position, making it easier to do all that crazy stuff with his guitar.

Still gives me shivers 23 years or so after release of ALS. Wish the sound crew could have done a better job of not loading up on every other instrument, overpowering Steve's amp.
