Steve is a genius. He's not just on another planet as far as creativity, composition and technique goes, he's in a different universe entirely. He is a true virtuoso player. It's no point comparing him to anyone else because he's in a class by himself. So much expression in this it's insane. What a remarkable feeling it must be to be able to spontaneously play what you here in your head. Thanks for being so amazing. You're an inspiration to us all.
He's absolutely great and it's a marvellous, expressive an touching solo but I don't think it's as spontaneous as you think. Just compare it with some live recordings. The solo is balanced, composed, built up well. For spontaneous genious check out some improvisations from Guthrie Govan.

what i admire about Steve Vai the most is the crazy amount of control and mastery he has over the guitar. every note is intentional, smooth and has meaning. it's almost surreal watching him play and the types of notes that come out. not to mention he makes his guitar have a voice. you know it's Vai when he hits a note. of course, i also enjoy the infrequent times an accident happens (e.g. amp goes out, string breaks) because his playing generally is so perfect that it's impossible to believe and those moments show that he is real.
That descend at 2:57 is so damn perfectly smooth and fitting. It's parts of Steve's phrasing like this that makes his style and inspiration. Guys like Steve teach other how to take guitar to a new level

@@gskelton2937 dude what are you talking about lmao there is nothing similar between the two songs
He's an absurd guitarist and this is probably the most amazing filmed guitar performance, he may even be the best living guitarist in the world, but still doesn't beat Jimi Hendrix's hippie fueled jamming genius. Songs like Machine Gun, Hear My Train A Coming, Spanish Castle Magic (the extended studio one on my channel), Voodoo Child (Slight Return).. there's just no one on his level.

what i admire about Steve Vai the most is the crazy amount of control and mastery he has over the guitar. every note is intentional, smooth and has meaning. it's almost surreal watching him play and the types of notes that come out. not to mention he makes his guitar have a voice. you know it's Vai when he hits a note. of course, i also enjoy the infrequent times an accident happens (e.g. amp goes out, string breaks) because his playing generally is so perfect that it's impossible to believe and those moments show that he is real.
He took off this song from Kingdom come WHAT LOVE Can Be.....I lost respect cause he doesn't credit where credit is due.

The music is not live though. The audio aligns perfectly note-for-note with the record.
