If Aliens come to Earth for a guitar battle, we're for sure using Steve
Lol,, 😂
I guess Satriani is gonna have to put his surfboard away then 😂
Yes and i want to study how he does does that
No we use buckethead to communicate with the aliens
Or we just get all the best there is like one big team like the avengers of the guitar world or the justice league to defend earth against the aliens
My son said “there’s no lyrics but I feel like there’s lyrics.” Yes son, you are right.
Lyrics can always be heard, even without words.
@@nilis9955 that's right. it happens in photograhy too. there's always something being said, a message.
ThaiDuiTx so true !
You did a nice job raising him.
Blessed boy!

Steve: i love u note
Note: i love u too steve
xD that just made my day
now thats funny lol
haha
It should be for the love of note
Haha!
This performance is so legendary, that it is even better than the recorded version.
I’m trying to learn the recorded version and it’s really difficult because the Steve vai a style is hard to mimic , so much of the sounds is unique to him. It’s not like learning something like sweet child of mine which pretty easy to replicate.
By far
I agree 107% the recorded version sounds too perfect, here he plays his best live performance and sounds more passionate
Check out the live version with the Holland Metropole Orchestra.
but how it is have just a bit more than 1 million views????
Mike Mangini killing it on the drums, and the tone of the bassist is absurdly awesome.

There’s other people on stage?…. Yes, agreed on both
Wtf
If I had 7.45 minutes to live I would listen to this. If I had 15.5 minutes left, I would listen to it 2 times.
Please listen to whispering a prayer in the next 7 minutes 🙏🏼❤️
Oh Lord God Almighty, I feel you on that friend! And, I totally agree with you!!!

When Vai plays this song, it looks like a religious experience for him in a sense, as if he's tapping into a channel of communication with a Higher Power with his guitar.
exactly
i agree
the scene when he is screaming "come on come one come on" while shredding is holy
You're surprisingly on target... His preparation for recording this piece (in its original studio version) was to fast for four days. Then he went in and recorded it.
He pretty much is
The man is so good that even his fingers give props to themselves at 4:17 !
pretty sure he pointed at a fan ahahha
These are his very first fans

A little showmanship, haha. 😁
Yes i've seen it😅

20+ years of listening to this and it still gives me the chills every time!!!
In the 80's when Vai was playing with DLRoth, we went to go see him at the Portland Coliseum. My boyfriend had every Vai album, Zappa, solo, PIL., etc. We hung out by the stage back door. When Vai showed up my boyfriend yelled "Hey Steve!" and fanned his albums out like a card hand. We were like "We are here for YOU dude. Whatever YOU do, that's why we're here, not for pretty boy DLR." Steve said to his roadie "Grab that kids' albums." and he signed them all. Will Never Forget It.
That’s amazing ! Wonderful story thanks for sharing that. 😊
The best version of this masterpiece. I never get tired of listening to it.
Totally agree 👍
Love how he throws that note off the neck at 2:20
🤣🤣🤣 some notes here some notes there..cookin
"Somea notes a hea some notsea dea " (italian accent)
while at the same time doing the hendrix face classic
😂 Yeah..that was crazy...🔥
Perfect expression for that sound lol. So charismatic.
This is single handedly IF not, the greatest guitar solo performance to ever happen ever.
If not what?
Cliffs of Dover exists
@@kylehuber4831 It has never been played as well as the studio version.
In 4:55 min a work of art is sculpted: the guitar is suspended and with a lever Steve Vai hits a note, which precedes a masterful bend... unique!
Its unbelievable , but there it is!
His guitar was crying while having a smile on the face. Just legendary things.
Greatest guitar performance ever. Period
I'm not even much of a fan of Steve Vai, but this performance is one of the most transcendent instrumentals I have ever heard... as close to perfection as one could imagine.
Congratulations, you're a Steve Vai fan
@@MM-vs2et Lol, I suppose I am. But I think this song is all I need. :)
steve vai's definitely the least wanky out of the big shred gods. his notes are played with purpose
@@MM-vs2et Haha How can you hear him play, and not be.

I LOVE STEVE VAI
its my first time listening to the song, im drunk af, i regret nothing, peace.
It's sad that the majority of the world doesn't understand this
This was my first introduction to Vai when I was a teenager. My dad said "What is he doing? How is he doing that?". I had been playing guitar for a few months and all I could say is "I have no idea."
Steve's full step bends at the 21th and 22nd frets are a bliss to hear.
Whenever I finish watching this video, I always watch it again immediately - once is never enough.
Amen & amen to that! Same vibe right here, my friend! Yay-usss!!!
Best Live video of For the love of god in my opinion....
I'm 10 years old but i'm old enough to say that this is a masterpiece. For the love of Vai.
You got that right, bud. I hope you play too. If you don’t, now is a great time to start. We’ve gotta keep this thing going, you know. I was 10 years old myself when I started playing guitar. I’m an old fart now. And, you know something? She’s the best friend I’ve ever had in my life. Never let me down once. 😆
ı have been born for 25 seconds and by the time i finish typing this ı would be around 1 min old and ı still can say this is a masterpiece.
@@onlinekurtu lmao
There is just nobody on his level. He has literally perfected the guitar.
I love how he feels every single note he plays
Blessed are the notes on which Steve rests for more than a second.
Steve Vai and Joe Santriani were raised in Nassau County Long Island. Joe taught Steve how to play while they both were in High School and became great friends. They both credit the school music teacher for their music abilities.they
Mike Keneally - sitar
Philip Bynoe - bass
Mike Mangini - drums
Thank you... Love this drummer !!!
thanks
Thanks dude!
dream theature is great
This is the exact performance that inspired me to pickup the guitar. I remember I got off thr school bus at 11 (2001ish) years old and went in the house.
My parents weren't home yet and I saw my dad's G3 DVD and I popped it in. I remember when this specific performance came up and I was mesmerized. I've been playing guitar ever since and I have the first 4 bars of this song tattooed on my arm.
That's freakin awesome man
I hope you don't mind me copying your idea. I hope you continued to be blessed my friend.

I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years and I’ve never heard his equal. Steve Vai is simply the greatest guitarist that ever lived in my opinion.
Hendrix then Vai
Marco Levi I love Hendrix. I have a framed picture of him in my office. And his style is one of my all-time favorite. But strictly technically speaking he could not do what Vai can do. Of course...back then nobody could. But Hendrix is one of the all time greats
@@marcolevi4387
Hendrix was a junkie with a out of tune guitar that couldn't even play his own stuff most of the time. For the time sure he was refreshing, but looking back at it, it was mostly just mediocre guitar playing at best.
I'd rate Buckethead as the best imo. People who say he's only shred have never listened to more than a couple of "youtube hits"
@@JamoZNL I agree that Bucket is at the top, or at least top 3, period. So much soul, try trace candle or electric tears for deep, and try floormatt or pike 65 for shred
2:00 Here The most immense solo in the history of the electric guitar starts.
This is my favorite interpretation of this song
If God plays the guitar, & I believe that He does, I bet it sounds just like this!🤟😎👏💜🌍
this guy is from another galaxy
I wish I could thank Steve Vai himself in person for writing such a beautiful song. Every time my life hits a low point this songs brings me hope. It has got me out of so many bad times mentally. Thank you Mr. Vai for the support through out the years.
wow.. this must to be one of the BEST performance ever done in human history... so deep... the human condition never better captured
Watch whispering a Prayer
And tender surrender too
Yeah, and he created this one while fasting which adds a lot of human mysticism into this creation
All the stars were aligned for this to happen, as it's never been done as well ever again. Why Steve would change amps from this set-up I will never understand.
Imagine writing an epic song even after 30 years you don't feel bored playing it. Happy 30th Anniversary Passion and Warfare
One of the most expressive guitar players alive.
You got that so damn right!
Some say he has no feel but he literally acts like he is screaming the high note bends lmao.
Legends.... mangini on drums ,binou on bass and keneally on guitars and keyboards.. don't get a better backing band than that........
I feel blessed that this performance was recorded for all to witness firsthand ... epic
I saw Steve play this live... i wanted it to last forever.
Lucky bastard
Same here hehe
Best performance ever .. even better than the original
His chops were at an all-time high at this period in time. That said, the emotion he poured into this performance was unbelievable. That G3 video was a life-changer for me.
Little wing
3:17, the best highest G-note ever pulled off!
Steve is one of the best musicians in the world. And a true gentleman
I wish this was the popular kind of music today.
bro i liturally said the same thing to myself whilst listening, now we have this dumbass music today like cardi b and ice spice
people need to stop generalizing modern music as "cardi b and ice spice" there is so much better music outside of these two's discographies
@@justine.3416 thats pretty much the mainstream music of today
@@danielgupta2050 it really isn't. the fact that you had to use ice spice to represent this generation's music speaks volumes about how much you know about it and how much effort you put into trying to even scratch the surface of "modern music"
forgot to mention my main point but yes, i don't like cardi b and ice spice's music either but i also recognize that their music isn't the only music out right now and never should anyone generalize modern music as that kind of music
Can’t watch it without crying
I think that this was arguably one of the cleanest and perfect live performances in guitar history. It's pretty satisfying and I'm glad it was recorded, That's my honest opinion!
You can feel his soul poured into those harmonics so effortlessly on the fretboard …
I was at the first G3 concert, to start off the first tour in 96 at the Concord Pavilion, Satriani, Vai, Johnson, Shepherd, then at first one of 97, also at the Concord Pavilion, Satriani, Vai, Shepherd, Fripp. The first time was amazing, had seats in the 8th row, Vai stole the show, although everyone was fantastic. The second time I sat in the 3rd row and barely remember it, it wasn't as good as the first time. I blame that on a short layoff and they were exhausted from a long world tour.
When a guitar takes over your body mind and soul
Well put !
The day Vai became my guitar hero. This song is spiritual. 1st time I heard this song I meditated on it.
He was in the middle if a 10 day fast when he recorded this
I almost paranoid listening to this. That frequencies tho
Vai fast when he wrote this song. That's why it sound spiritual
steve is one of the best
@@noraziziabdulaziz3341 I disagree on that , its spiritual regardless of fasting or not.
He is by far the best electric guitar player I have ever heard (the only one that compares would be Allan Holdsworth). Every phrase, almost every note is played with a different touch. It is as expressive as human voice if not more.
Holdsworth RIP...
Discovered him when I was 50yrs old.... (56 now) never heard anything like it... Vai is next level too.
The guy that taught a young Steve
No words to impress this stage that transcends Nirvana. Steve Vai a legend from another galaxy

There’s not a single other guitarist that has more control over the instrument than Vai.

@@sixstrings1063 Joe is great and I love his music too but Steve’s control over the instrument is unmatched
Anyone can play guitar, but no one can be Steve Vai. It is so extraordinary that Jesus' disciples could listen to it in his other world. It is so difficult to find words to describe this performance...
He is just talking to his guitar in some language we can’t understand and it’s beautiful to watch. Too mesmerising

One word to describe Steve Vai = Unbelievable
God was really present in this song in the form of inspiration for Steve Vai. Amazing!
THIS IS STEVE,S BEST ONE HE,S PLAYED I GO INTO THE PARK AND PLAY IT STRESS JUST LEAVE,S ME😮😊 LEAVE WITH ALOT WEIGHT OFF MY SHOULDERS 😊
The sound is so unreal, he was like 10 levels above human beings at this performance
Steve is not just an accomplished musician,he is a total entertainer which makes you watch guitar instrumental concerts more and more.
4:42 - Raising the guitar through the whammy bar in a song making a musical/visual artistic moment equally powerful is of one of the best things I have ever seen in my life.
@Moses yup, he is such an artisté hahahaha gotta love someone whose body is completely possessed by the art that it's making.
Steve Vai should be in the top 100 guitarist of all time

El concierto perfecto sin errores no existe!
El concierto sin perfecto sin errores:
He is the God of six string. He has elevated the guitar sound to a language level... He is the God who the love he seeks.
The level of confidence he had in this performance just blows me away. Up there with the only light shining down at the stage on him, playing his absolute best out to the darkness with nothing but a guitar and intuition. Incredible.
To this day the greatest version of this song ever recorded...
Van haled said: If you have quality amp and quality instrument you can make the guitar sing
I was 6YO when I listen for the first time Steve Vai. I heard this version and I was so agape. I totally fell in love with Steve and his talent. He’s my drug until this time, I’m now 23YO
4:44 That picking up the guitar by the whammy, then hitting that note with some tasty vibrato. Just.. wow!
I'm not a great fan of this style, but THIS is off the scale good! Vai is technically brilliant, and actually is a master of melody as well.
Steve Vai is a great guitarist and a great professional because the live version is almost better than the studio version. A Master
Amazing phrasing, feel, originality and technique. This is Vai at his best
Snagged that G3 live CD back in '97, and man, I was hooked! Played FTLOG on repeat, easily clocking a few thousand listens. The guitar tone on that particular G3 live? Pure magic-sparkling, dynamic, and painting a vivid soundscape. Vai switched to the Carvin Legacy rig post that, and while it's a solid amp, it just doesn't hit the same notes for me as that iconic '97 G3 performance. Some vibes, I guess, are just irreplaceable.
Yeah... I have listened to so many versions. This one is head and shoulders above any of the others. Not even close really. I cant listen to the others.
This is how I will remember Steve till the end of my days. I was amazed by this performance 20 years ago and still blows my mind today. The guitar tone, the expression, the feeling was unique.. Thank you Steve.
thanks for this comment Dave...I too watched this on VHS 20 years ago while learning to play guitar. I watched it many times with my friend Steve. It is one of the best guitar performances I have ever seen and I have seen many of them. Cheers
My all time favorite instrumental!
Génial Steve . A + Flo ...
I watch this and I remember when my guitar teacher told me, you should be one with the guitar. I guess he meant this. It's amazing to see how every move he makes turns into music.
