These videos sre life changing. I worked as a nurse for 27 years. I had meniscus repair on both my knees after i had worked for 15 years. I had to stop working after 27 years. The doctor said total knee replacements at 53. I said no. I would have to have surgery again in 10 years. Doctor told me i should have never gone back to work after the surgery. So here I am 11 years after retirement with another meniscus repair and arthritis. The difference is I came upon these videos. Just trying to walk correctly lessen my pain. My back no longer hurts. I plan to do three sessions of physical therapy then switch over to the recomended exercises. I feel better already. I will work on my walking technique before going for walks outside. After being immobile for 8 months I am ready to get back to walking and exercising. Thanks

I’m 73 and have been wearing Townsend Rebel Reliever (ie. Offloader ) Braces for 4+ years to deal with a Varus Condition in both knees where medial cartilage is completely worn down. I’ve continued to work out with Bodyweight & HIIT exercises and can attest to the fact that the braces have been beneficial in helping me remain active, but fall far short of being a permanent solution to my knee arthritis. I'm 4 Months TKR Post-Op on my left knee. Hoping to be free of Braces completely(ie. TKR on the Right Knee) by the end of 2023.

    • @E-D-E2704
      @E-D-E2704 24 дні тому

How do you feel now after your TKR. Did you have the other op done last year and how is the pain now. Thank you.

    • @marcusnoel5264
      @marcusnoel5264 24 дні тому

      @@E-D-E2704 Overall, I’m glad I had the TKR(s) - Left Knee Nov 2022 & Right Knee Nov 2023.
I’m now age 75 and feel recovery might have been more difficult/challenging at a later age and if i had allowed by knee arthritis to remain untreated.
At 10 months with the left, I felt strong enough to proceed with the right knee TKR. At 11 months with the right, I feel adjustments happening with overall gait, extension, & core alignment. Sometimes the adjustments are accompanied by pain, but the net effect when that wears off is positive.
I have to be mindful and not try push it, but stimulate and allow the nerves & tissues to heal.
I spent approx. 4 years with the offloader braces(Townsend Rebel Relievers) and I’m now thinking that they may have contributed to some muscle atrophy & weakness. Now, that I’m moving more, without braces, and with better alignment, the calves, quads, hamstrings, & glutes seem to be engaging & developing more. As for pain, some stiffness and swelling remains on the right(compared to the left) that hopefully will decease over time. The knee pain that used to wake me up at night is completely gone. Going Up & Down Stairs, while not 100% pain free, feels significantly better & easier than before the Surgeries. For ongoing recovery, I'm focusing mainly on Bodyweight & Core exercises and some Tai Chi(for Balance).

I have been to PT many times for the same knee issue and have not felt any better or gotten any stronger. Thanks! I was recently diagnosed with very severe osteoarthritis in both knees.
It started more than 30 years ago when I tore the ACL in one knee, and it was never dealt with. The babying of that unstable knee led to an imbalance and arthritis with bone spurs in the other knee too.
Doctor wants to do replacements on both knees. But I am researching conservative treatments first. He was willing to do cortisone injections in both knees yesterday. He said that insurance won't approve gel (visco) injections as long as the cortisone shots work.
He isn't in favor of bracing because he is convinced I need knee replacements. He is probably correct, but I want to postpone them as long as possible.
Watching your video and others this morning has helped me identify that I need hinged knee braces to add stability to the knee with the ACL tear and also end stage arthritis. I can use a simple compression brace on the other knee for its end stage arthritis pain though.

I have a brace that I have had for 10 years. It is a custom made one which cost a fortune ($1500) and is called an Uploader brace! It had 4 straps. One behind my knee, one above my knee (thigh) and one below my calf. The last one starts on the inside of my leg and goes under and up the other sides to the top of my leg. It helps to separate the bones in my knee. It also has fibreglass piece on my thigh and in my calf for stability. I find it really helps to alleviate the pain!

I have arthritis on inside of right knee. I injured it when strained it pulling myself out of a low seat repeatedly. My doctor prescribed me the lateral uploader brace to push open the bone on bone from outside knee. It helps stabilize my knee and allows me to walk safely. I really need to strengthen my glutes and foot. I'll ask for physical therapy next because I get confused if I'm doing something correctly. Plus getting older I appreciate the professional support. It's work staying mobile. Thanks for your informative channel.

My knee “sleeve” is from our Canadian chain, Rexall. It is their ‘Be Better’ own brand and made of bamboo. Hand-washed gently. I tried others but they itched. This $25 one is great for my fitness-class wearing and also gardening (since I get lost in time, Energizer Bunny style!). Exercises as per UA-cam videos are keeping me active at 72. Turmeric (with ground black pepper) on my salmon & chicken help me. Yup, aging sucks! 😃

U r really giving ppl hope and creating a positive attitude for the public. I have a wonderful surgeon as my dr as I have arthritis and I'm in early stages. Here's his excellent advice, go swimming, don't do butterfly as I had a bad fracture in my arm last yr. I do all other styles of swimming too, even side stroke . My arm is 90 percent perfect , no surgery was done. Ur advices on the knees r the same as his just urs is more detailed. My point is I can trust u, so can the public. So I want u to do one video on swimming. If u can plz answer my question. I'll come back here to find it. God bless you and ur family.

I almost never take any pain relievers for my arthritis. I have pain every day, sometimes up to a level 6 or 7 depending how I move. My brace helps to reduce the frequency of the harder pain, but not the intensity. I have what I think is an unloader brace, though it's different from the one you show. The problem is that I can't get it to stay in the correct place for the unloader to be effective. So I just use it as support. With my insurance I only paid 10%, and it was $75 for me!

Dr. David, I just found your sight and have begun watching your videos and plan on watching all of them on knees several times and taking notes and making plans on how to attack and care for my knees in order to avoid knee replacement surgery. I had a medial meniscus tare several years ago that had to be scoped and trimmed due to damage during exercise. I’m not sure how you feel but I believe the good Lord made our bodies to heal itself if we take care of it in the right way! That’s why I was so intrigued to watch your videos and hear your advice. I just wanted to say hello and say that I will be contacting you and seeking your guidance and will consider myself as a patient of yours. Dr David I want to say thank you for time and dedication on helping people like me to understand about thier health issues. Ive been diagnosed with OA since 2019, and just kept getting worse, all i hear is to do this dont do that. But no one has ever explained why. I haven't worked since 2019 due to an accident, then OA set in now i can't even walk a mile. I had sciatica to right hip, leg numbness entire right leg, and severe pain all night and day since February. I got some relief with cbd, but its a temporary fix. I so appreciate all tge information you have given. I'm able to walk with a cane, and knee brace, I hardly leave the house cause i cant sit on my right cheek. I was referred to a Orthopedic surgeon. That was useless, she just said its getting worse and i should consider surgery. Why is anyone not helpful, its like they are guessing at their jobs.
Ive done my research into this and is basically doing all i can ro keep going.
Thank you and ill continue to follow you and keep doing those exercises ypu recommend. They help some, but my knees and hips is reatricted quite a bit.

I wore the third type showed in this video for a "runner knee" problem. If I wore it to jog, I would not have knee pain. If didn't wear it to jog, I surely would get knee pain. This was very black and white. That was after I had a knee surgery to clean up the "runner knee" problem and had already built up the muscles around my knee. I used past tense because my knee had a different problem, and I had a second surgery on the same knee. I am still recovering and rebuilding the muscles around my knee, and I don't dare to resume jogging yet.

Thank you for explaining in thorough detail these different braces. Wish you're clinic was in New Zealand then I would be a client for sure. I did my knee injury around 2009/2010 playing competitive indoor net ball jumping for an intercept I felt my right ham string pull and my knee pop and obvious excruciating pain as I collapsed in a heap on the floor having to be carted off via ambulance to A&E (Accident and Emergency) hospital. Cut a long story short, I tore the cartilage, ligaments and the meniscus disc and a pulled hamstring. 3 ACL procedures later over the years, my knee has never been the same. I used to be very active and did a lot of sport. My knee injury has hindered and minimised a lot of what I used to do, the mind and the rest of the body knows I can do things and my right knee says nope... not happening. The injury has caused osteoarthritis over the years to only my right knee, and my left good knee and the rest of my body has no arthritis. I now ref net ball and there is abit of running, quick turning and at times jarring whilst on the court and I feel I can only achieve this by wearing a knee brace which I hate however have no choice otherwise my knee gives way, buckles and is in pain. The brace holds my knee together and I know I probably shouldn't be umpiring. Maybe I need the dreaded knee replacement? Anyway.... thank you for explaining the different braces, I'm getting myself another brace and should also make an appointment to see my orthopedic surgeon.

I have tried many types of braces over the years and use only when I play golf. The one I like the most is made by 3M and has hinges on sides and Velcro straps on top and bottom. My knee will expand over the 4 to 5 hours of a golf game. Having straps allow me to easily loosen the brace as my knee expands. Previously when i use the sleeve type, it feels comfortable initially but is too tight when my knee expands.

Hook 'em Horns! Have had chondromalacia 3 years, and now both lateral and medical torn meniscus. The brace with metal on the sides gave me horrible leg cramps at night. I have tried so many, but the brst is from Walgreens, and its a sleeve by Mueller. That, icing, rest and exercise are my therapy. I am 68 and want to remain active.

Hi Kim, We are so sorry to hear that you have been struggling with osteoarthritis!🥺 It is common for many health care providers to not mention therapy as often times they are not familiar with how manual physical therapy helps. Typical physical therapy focuses on post surgery while manual physical therapy works to prevent unnecessary injections and surgery. We do have a video that we recommend to watch that discusses the stages of knee arthritis so that you may gauge where you are at. Once you are able to determine what stage you are in it will make it easier to know what steps to take. If you'd like to view it you can view it here:
"How to Clearly Tell Where You Are In The 4 Stages of Knee Arthritis"

If you aren't ready for that we do have a Knee Arthritis Recovery Program as well. The Knee Arthritis Recovery Program teaches you exactly what to do at the 4 different phases of knee osteoarthritis.
This is the Natural Way to recover from knee osteoarthritis so that you can get back to being active, healthy, and mobile (even if you’ve been told you’re “bone-on-bone”)
This wellness program guides people through exercises and stretches that target key body parts that have the greatest potential to prevent knee conditions like arthritis (osteoarthritis), meniscus tears, ligament injuries, cartilage problems, and many more knee conditions.

Appreciate the videos. I am 2 months out on a knee replacement and am trying to avoid having the other one done. It is sort of confusing about what to do with each as far as exercise goes. Still doing the exercises from PT on my right knee but not doing the quad strengthening on my other one. Just bought the most comfortable shoes I could find {I dislike sneakers} and use a regular compressive sleeve brace on my untouched knee. Thanks again.

I had knee surgery some forty years ago for a torn cartilage (which they removed). In those days it was quite a lengthy recovery with physio concentrating on the thigh muscle (hummm). Anyway, I am a fairly fit woman and have maintained the same body weight, 5'4", 120 lbs. through out my life. Now, all these years later my doctor tells me the pain I am having is from arthritis and knee replacement surgery is my only option. Will these exercises be helpful in my situation? I am starting them today. Thank you for caring

I had the same issue. Orthopedics office issued me a brace that had velcro straps that dug into my chubby thighs. It was uncomfortable but still would fall down after a few steps. Fell down to my ankles twice while walking to parking lot from MD's office. It is in the box in my closet - useless. I would need a garter belt or something to hold it up in place. LOL!

I need need replacement due to oestoartheritis. My pain mgmt dr said to hold off and get a custom made 3D printed knee brace cause it takes load of my knee (which is bone on bone) and it will take away pain and allow me to walk and feel many ears younger. Are you aware of these and if so how does it compare with what you have here (prob more expensive and I do need prescription). thanks for all your information on these videos.

I tried the first two types of braces you presented here. No success in reducing pain. They also made my knee area extremely warm. (I did not have a menthol infused brace) Haven't tried the "unload-er" type yet, but I am skeptical about it being the answer. I have had some success with physical therapy in reducing pain by strengthening the muscles supporting my knee.

I have big legs, so the pull-on braces roll down, get tight, and cut my circulation after walking or sitting a few minutes. I bought one similar to the 3rd one but with large Velcro wrap around tabs and has a hole in the middleto align with my knee. I purchasedit at Wal-Mart XL. The velcro bands are pretty stretchy. I guess that's why it fits my large legs best. I put it on on the outside of my pant while working outside. Actually, I wear it all day. It slides a little. I just readjust it. But not very often. It's comfortable. It works best for me sinc I love working outdoors. Hope this info will help someone else...

    Hello
I am 65 yrs old and I have osteoarthritis in my right knee. As per one of your video explanations, I’m on level 3. I like to know what type of exercises are not good for osteoarthritis(knee,Hip) Most of the exercises are involved in bending the knee. If I don’t do the exercises such as walking, lunges, burpee’s; some stretches, lifting knee high etc I won’t be able to reduce my weight, which means I’m getting bigger and putting more pressure on my knee. What is your advice or suggestion. Please respond.
