A gear reduction box can be used because they come in a configuration that takes vertical and comes out horizontal!
I swap directions when I mount(engine connected to the slow side of gear box means speed to the rear end

why do you need a torque converter and a jack shaft all other videos i have watched on this engine have only used a clutch and a chain?

not necisarilly needed but it gives your go cart a transmission essentially so you have multiple gear ratios so you can get more tourq on hills and still have a higher top speed
