Beans most excellently chilled here, Doug. Stan is definitely the man for hooking you up with this Scarlett interface, so big thumbs up for you, Stan 😎👍. I opted for the 6i6 because in addition to midi, it also allows for optical input for an ART tube mic preamp and compressor I plan to use for vocals and acoustic guitar.
This demo is nice because you can really hear the difference between the Behringer Xenyx preamp vs the Scarlett when you switch your vocal mic. Subtle, perhaps, but the Focusrite just has more presence. Top job! 😊✌️
Thanks to Stan! Exccellent demo, Doug, clear and concise. I’ve always heard good things about the Scarlet so, along with that simple USB hub the audio and MIDI connections are set up pretty easy and don’t take up much space!
I bought the Scarlet 2i4 last November. The 2i4 has the 2 midi ports at the back. The 2i4 is a tank, weighs a ton :-)
Jim Shannon on Sounds - Thanks, that sounds ideal for what I was thinking. I’m happy with my current configuration (iStudio), but may want to change it up to something like this.
Thank you for providing we newbies the ways around this equipment and all.
I have a Scarlett 2i4 (1st Gen) connected to my Windows laptop for my DAW, AmpliTube 4, Sample Tank, Syntronik, and Korg M1. Due to this fine channel - "thesoundtestroom" - I now have an little collection of synthesizers on my iPad as well. Got to have the best of both worlds!
My next project is to buy the Apple camera connector in order to connect my Novation 49 to the iPad & 2i4 to record to my DAW/play through my audio system.
This inspired me to get started with my new home studio: IPad 2018 + Cubasis + USB converter to lightning port + Focusrite Scarlett + condenser mic + different instruments
Does it work well?
Does it work?
@@sorento6107 yes
Awesome always doing a good job thank you for your hard work
Brilliant and so helpful!
A little trick if you have a multi channel interface and the camera connection kit you can do a screen recording with audio but you have to turn record mic in the screen record options OFF and then the screen recording will have the audio coming into your audio interface. Turning the mic off in the screen recording options turns the internal iPad mic off and lets the screen recording capture your audio interface, this is a little bit unintuitive at first but this does give you the ability to record the sound coming from apps like AUM or Cubasis.
I think this is along the lines of what you were saying, when I want to record using my cannon rebel8i I got a rode mic and plugged it in, the camera assumes its going to be on so it doesn't capture sound and then then I don't turn the rode mic on so essentially all sound is negated by that little trick. then you can get your trusty 2i2 or what have you and record into logic, or, again, whatever you may run, the only finicky part is lining up the video and audio in capcut if you're using apple.
Ohhh Queen in the background 😎👍
Excellent tutorial! Thank You!
I have been toying on getting a focusrite for my iPad, and now after seeing your video, my mind is made up. Cheers bud. Also, you are costing me an arm and a leg hahaha a lot of synths you have reviewed I have bought. loopy pro, poison, sunriser, scaler to mention a few. Your channel is excellent sir!
Thanks man good mellow info, good explanation video i needed thisx
Thanks for this video!! I plan on getting this very focusrite on Friday, along with a powered usc hub.
You won’t regret it, it’s a very good interface 😊
Great! I have a Scarlett 18i20 and couldn't imagine was that simple! Thanks!
hi is it the same connection with 18i20?
Thanks !! That was easy to understand.
Thanks you for this incredible video, this work perfectly with my 4i4 and ma 6th generation iPad
You are an ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL TEACHER! Worth your weight in graphene... : ) Thank you!
Though much of what you described 'went over my head', I have liked your approach to the subject and admire the dextrous manner in which you have used your left index finger to adjust various settings on the iPad.
answered my question exactly. thanks.
Thank you for doing this video
I just love ur channel man ..making music on an I pad since 4 years now ...and ur channel helps me whenever I and tuck ....btw my I pad pro broke ..and I wanna geta new one ..shall I get an I pad air !! Or wait more ...
Appreciate all your videos ✊
its not working why? Scarlett solo usb: this accessory requires too much Power. :(
Edit: Problem solved. Get a Power-coupled USB Multiplexer.
Thank you!
Hi, this is a fantastic video and has helped me a lot. Just one question: I want to use my Scarlet 18i8 with my iPad Pro to record on location without headphones so can I use the Scarlet as an input but the iPad speakers as the output? This would negate the need for headphones or speakers. Many thanks!
Thanks!
Great vid - is there a way to be on your GarageBand app ( mic) and use the cool effects on a live session ?
If so how do I put this together to live streaming?
Thank you
Hi! can you give us a link to the asapter you are using in the video? Also what Ipad do you have? would an Ipad pro first generation good? I want to use it with an Ewi 4000s.what software in Ipad can have cc control attributed differently?
Thanks, I dont know another Ipad music production expert so I hope you know the answers :)
I’m having trouble with my 4i4 gen 3 and the new iPad Pro 2020. It recognized it in Cubasis 3 but won’t recognize it in Beatmaker 3.
Hello, and thanks for all the great useful information. I ordered one of these and the Apple 3 adapter. Will my Ipad power source plugin power this Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd generation unit? Thanks much. John
What is the ipad stand you are using ?
Thank you so much sir 🙏👍👍
Can i run this APP with an old ipad? Do you know a similar APP for Android tablet, like Samsung Galaxy Tab S4?
Awesome video How could I connect this setup to a daw like Cubase and have it sync up and integrate, I would like to use the Ipad as a synth and be able to multitrack record the Aum outputs to cubase is that possible?
With the audio interface all connected up, can you now use the ipad to record video and audio of the person playing the keyboard?
Love my 2i2 and yeah, Stan, you're a big time good guy for supporting Doug like that. I am still always amazed how we can plug all that stuff in and it just works. Goes where it is supposed to go and everything. Plug in my Bonnie to the front, a pad controller to the hub, and a keyboard controller and make music. Cool Beans.
Your video is great
Can I use this to sing and record to instrumental tracks off my computer?
Any way to record video with this set up? I am stuck trying to set this up but it keeps recording stereo but only to the left ear...
Hi ,
I bought ipad Air3. Which sound card will support for this?. Please help me. Further , will audient evo4 support?.
Thank you.
Your videos are really amazing.
Great video, thanks for this Doug
I want 3 synths on different audio outputs to my mixer would bigger brother work with Audiobus?
Great video! I just read that for phantom power it's better to connect the Scarlett to a USB Hub for power.
Friendly question: Is it absolutely necessary to have an USB Hub around for Phantom Power, though? Or can the setup survive without one? Can it be possible to connect a Scarlett interface without one and still be able to supply the required voltage to condenser microphones? Would be there any risk if there's no USB Hub in between?
Thanks!
@@Wren206 Doesn't the Scarlett 2i2 have to be connected to a USB device to power it?
Hi, Thanks a lot for the great demo. Really helped me in setting mine up.
But when I Tried my Scarlett 2i2 with GarageBand in my iPad, I am getting some latency. How should I fix it? Thanks in advance.
What's your buffer size
Did you ever figure this out?
@@williamnolan1943 Yes 👍🏼
@@JananiMadan how'd you fix it?

Hi. I have the same Atella hub, when i connect the my Focusrite to it it dies the green usb led is dead but when i connect my focusrite to my ipad the green light is on but wery weak. I dont know how to fix this or if the hub is broken. The hub has AC power. Maby you know what could be the error here. Hope you can help me.
Can you connect a Webcam at the same time as a Focusrite? (with a powered USB hub of course). I heard somewhere the iPad can only accept one (1) audio input device..
Hmm got me thinking. I have a Alesis iO Dock ll that powers the iPad and sends information. It has a usb out that I could plug into my powered usb hub right? Then I could plug my M -Audio key station 49 into the hub and control my plugins ? Unless it’s one direction on the iO Dock. It does have 5 pin din midi in & out though. One of my hobbies is hooking things up to see what happens & beer. Thanks, off to my lab.
Excellent demo. Is the bundle software capable of editing audio and video at the same time like Cubase?
Can you please provide us Any App for using with Focusrite for getting reverb effect while doing live streaming
Fellow Ghost fan! I have to find a video using iPhone. I tried the connections you’re using, but it didn’t work. I eventually found out I had to buy a powered usb hub. Trying to find out where it goes in the power chain.
Hi - I have got exactly the same setup.. I am using Apple USB Camera adapter that is connected to my iPAD with the lightning cable connected in one slot to power the iPAD. As soon as I connect the USB from my Scarlett 2i2 to the camera adapter - I keep getting the message on my ipad that "Scarlett 2i2 requires too much power" and my Scarlett doesnt power up. Has something changed in the new updates by iOS?
Thanks for these explanations. Is this working with all kind of ipad ? I have an ipad bought in 2017.
Is there a solution to get sound on both left and right channel on the ipad when using Facebook live or Zoom using only 1 mic on input one? It seems to play on the left channel only
Same issue here
Hello Friend! Thanks for the video! Is it possible to do a instagram live using the Instagram app for iOS and capture audio from interface inputs?
How did you get AUM application. I don't have that when I plug in my iPad?
I got a trick. I’m not a magician lol. that made my day man.
Gamers Perspective cracked a smile at that one too
awesome video thanks bud! quick question I got Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen But now I’m trying to connect it to the iPad (5th gen 2017 model) and on GarageBand I get a screen saying “Cannot use this accessory- Scarlett 2i2 usb: this accessory requires to much power”. I see you have a Scarlett 212. Have you experienced this? Anyway to get around it?
By the way I’m using a apple camera connection kit 3. The one with usb and lightning connection. I have lighting connection going into the wall. Usb into Scarlett
Mike Wong Make sure you are using an iPad charger into the camera connector - mine works with an iPad one but not an iPhone one - they have different amp ratings.
Would this work when recording video with iPhone/iPad when using the camera app?
Is it possible to just connect a Scarlett 2i2 USB-Interface with a powerbank? Because I've got one of them and a analogue mixer. BUT where I want to use it, I don't have Power.
I have a couple of older USB 2 hubs (powered and unpowered), and a first gen scarlett 18i8.
I am using a iPad pro with the new apple camera kit powered adapter.
I can get audio to/from the Scarlet and iPad when I just use the camera kit (without usb hub).
I can get usb midi from keyboard when I just use the camera kit with/without the older USB2 hub.
But...when I use the older USB2 hubs, I can not get the audio from the first gen scarlett 18i8, to be recognized by my iPad pro.
I have tried resetting/rebooting my iPad, scarlet, and USB hubs, but scarlett just wont pass audio to iPad, through the USB2 hubs.
Have you heard of this problem before?
I am ordering a new USB3 powered hub, and hope this will fix the problem.
xmrtuvgs I have no experience with the iPad Pro, but I think that the the USB 3 CCK will fix your problems😎
will this work with the base-line ipad or do you need the proline models? If that is the case I will just buy a new pc.
YOU ~ ROCK ! !
This old dog coming from Tascam 4 Track Portastudio days was having trouble understanding how I make my iPad Pro work in the New Age. Thanks for the clarity. I’m off to the races thanks a lot.
Can you tell me, how record with ipad and also conect to camera at the same time, with efeck vocal from garageband
Hi guys, am complete new to recording and was hoping that you could assist. I have a Line 6 UX1 and a Line 6 Pocket POD. Can I setup one of these to record on my iphone 11 using garage band. If so, how do I do it? Thanks.
Thank you for this great Video. Can I also video record myself with iPhone or iPad, using a mic connected to my audio interface for great audio quality?
Yes, you can
I got a used one and not sure if mine was like that or not but all the lights come on when i first plug it in and then come off. I don’t even have a green light on the side that is on.
if i buy a scarlett solo will it work for my iphone 8+ ?
Thanks for this video. Can you connect some audio harmonizer here too?God bless sir.
Thank you for this. Really, really helpful. So glad to learn that I can use my 2i2 with my iPad Pro. Just one question - in terms of the audio why not route all the instruments the other way round - i.e. through the behringer mixer and as a stereo out into the 2i2? Wouldn't that give you more audio input options and save on the powered usb hub?
Mike Norton Yes, I could have done it like that, actually that mixer is a full USB Audio Interface on it’s own, don’t even need the Scarlett, I have a video on it somewhere on the channel and also using another smaller Behringer USB Mixer too, however even then I would still need to use the Powered hub, no other way to use midi controllers with the iPad at the same time as an Audio Interface. But the biggest problem is if I just use the mixers as the Audio Interface it become complicated when making the videos
thesoundtestroom Thank you for your reply... which has really got me thinking. What I’m trying to do is record my band. All our instruments and vocals go through a Behringer USB Xenyx mixer (the 2222 I think). Are you saying I could just plug that straight into my iPad via the camera connector and record straight into GarageBand? Would I need to tell the iPad to use the mixer as a sound input? Sorry for the questions, but I’m finding my way through this mixing minefield!
Very interesting demo! Thanks for that! I would like to see also how you would midi sync your micro brute in midi with the apps from the ipad in this setup. Is that possible?
Nico Yes, it’s easy to set up the Microbrute to do this, in fact you can get the internal synths on the iPad to play the Microbrute, or get the Microbrute to play the internal synths because it has a midi USB, I will make a tutorial for this
thesoundtestroom That would be great! Thanks for your answer! :)
Would this setup also work on an android tablet?
Will this help me record vocals over a instrumental that is loaded on garage band to make a rap freestyle?
Yes
What stand are you using for your iPad?
Queen Fan :D
Hello!!!
Let me see if I understood...
can I use my Phone or iPad directly to the focus rite 2i2 with that white usb/otg lightning adapter without the need of a mixing console. Can I stream or teach virtual classes through my phone only using the 2i2... and it will not damage my phone nor iPad?
Yes, you can do all those things, and it won’t damage anything, this is what it’s designed to do
@@TheSoundTestRoom Thanks
Can i use a interface + midi connection with a usb hub?
...I use Reason on my laptop with Focusrite as audio interface but need to use iPads as instruments...how might I do that?....
Hi, friend, thanks for this. Do you know if there is any similar option to android devices? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
I don’t think there is but to be honest I’m not really sure about Android
I just ordered this I had a the persons 96 audio box I didn’t have enough memory in my laptop and that didn’t work and I cannot get it to work with my iPad so I’m hoping this focusrite Scarlett works
Can this work for live performances too ,or would there be any sort of delay or latency
I wouldn’t recommend it for live work
are you plugged into a wall? I have the focusrite 2i2 and a 9th gen ipad that comes with a usbc and the older gens other plug. Would a xvive P1 be able to give the whole system phantom power?
When i use the camera with the Scarlett connected like this, it records as stereo sound and the microphone only comes out one side and the instrument out the other. Is there any way to fix this??
Copy and paste the audio from one side and in the EQ settings switch it to the right or left output, so you can hear it from both sides. So if its coming from the left , copy/paste then switch it to the right side so you have 1 left 1 right and do that to all your audio files in the project
Strange 😱 my scarlet 2i2 when hooked to my iPad it will say not enough power ,then I try to add my battery dc 5v/ 4.2 still won’t work. If I use the Ac power charger into the lightning cable like the one seen here, then it works . Trouble is , I need to be Mobil. Help🤢
Buy a portable usb powerbank
I was trying to record video with the ipad and audio through the ZoomH6 at the same time and it doesn't seem like the Ipad can handle this. Can anyone else confirm? I can go from the Scalett to the Ipad in Garageband, but not to the camera onm the ipad and record video. Using Ipad Pro
Hi, may I ask you what is the power voltage of your USB hub? Mine is only 5v and the sound is really low, please thank you 🙏🏼
I saw in the comments from another video that It has to be 2 amps.
Thank you Sabine! 😀👍😀
Hello, I’m back to tell you it didn’t work but the beer was good. I have dingles dangles & dongles to no end . The iO Dock ll has a usb midi out, which I don’t understand its use. I’ll look it up later. I guess I’ll have to get the usb to 5 pin din port hub to work with the iO Dock ll midi in and another beer. Thanks again, Michael
Hello @TheSoundTestRoom. Before buying it, I need to ask you: Will it allow me to change the output? Like... can I, for example, to route my Vocalive to go out from my left output on my audio interface, and my Bias FX 2, to go out from my right output on the same audio interface?
please tell me if it will be possible to broadcast on Instagram. this is only suitable for recording. can i stream?
Do you know how to get extra free sounds for garage band that don’t son nd generic
The problem I have is 1 channel records the audio interface and the other channel records with the iphone mic
I need HELP!
Following..I'm looking for a way to solve this problem as well!
Is there a drum machine you can add in? I want to record my guitar and vocals and add drums to them.
So, How to connect midi controller to iPad?
Did you have to download focusrite software to your tablet and did you need USB permissions key ?
please make a video tuturial, how to remove vocal from a song by keeping best instromantal for karaoke...please please..it is my big request..
can you use guitar rig or amplitube?
I’m not getting a signal from my mic to my focusrite. I know they work but first time setting up with iPad. Why am I not getting a signal?
I have a usb mic hooked up to my iPhoneXR for video recording using this adapter. It works fine but does not charge my phone while plugged in. Is this normal?
Brian Defusco You battery status bar should be green while it’s plugged in and the phone should charge but at a slower rate rate because of the extra power being consumed by the device plugged into it, theoretically the mic shouldn’t work if power isn’t first getting the phone, so it should OK, however if the battery stays bar isn’t green then you may have a problem with the Apple USB 3 CCK Adapter
Hello! i’ve followed your steps but it doesn’t work. I’ve checked and it seems I have Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 gen1.. I think that’s the problem but do you knop for sure? When I plug in the powerbutton gives a weak blink and when I press phantom-button it just blinks.
Love your videos!
(Just saw a couple of more videos and now I’m a proud patreon)
Exactly the same problem here. Focusrite website says that both gen1 and gen2 are class compatible, but apparently it’s more complicated with gen1 if at all possible. I bought it second hand for this purpose only and now I got no use for it.
How would connect this setup with Facebook live?
What model of ipad is that? I want to know what ipads can supply power to the scarlett without the powered usb hub. Thanks man!
You will need a powered hub or the Apple CCK USB 3
how do you connect the mixer? Is the mixer usb? What is the name of the mixer?
What’s the latency like?
