- This video shows how to easily connect Focusrite USB audio interfaces and MIDI keyboard controllers to an iPad or iPhone. Basically all you need is a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter: amzn.to/2Hz9Y5Z (affiliate link)

Tested to work with both the 2nd gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and Clarett 2 Pre USB. Neither mention anything about supporting iOS but both actually work perfectly fine with my iPad.
Thank you. Tech has always been a huge holdup for me and recording.
You and me both bud
Kills all vibe! I struggle too
Awesome. Will this work with just the standard camera app for recording videos? Been using an iRig but it only has one XLR input which is annoying
Hi thanks awesome video, hey I bought the same setup as you only different is the lightening adapter I have has a headphone Jack included with the usb and power slot, I can hear sounds playing back threw the midi but for some reason it dont get a popup saying connected for options to change the input, did I but the wrong adapter or is this on fine
Olá amigo , é possível ligar a focusrite ao mesmo tempo com o teclado ? Muito obrigado
If I plug my Scarlett into my iPhone X, will that allow me to using the audio from the Scarlett for live-streaming purposes?
Please can you explain how to successfully connect my usb keyboard to my Rubix 22 audio interface and/or with my TR8S, so I can record what I am playing on the keyboard, on my Mac Pro PC, via installed Soundflower or any other computer sound recording software.
Can I connect a MIDI device through the MIDI IN port on the Interface? Can I connect more than 1 MIDI device simultaneously?
Great video. Simple and effective tutorial. Thanks
What apps are you using to record voice with and what Mic? I have the same auido interface and a 2018 iPad I have the camera USB with the lightning power connector.
This might be a dumb question, but I have the exact same setup. I used to produce music; however, I dont anymore. Can you use this method to play spotify or apple music so that it plays through your studio speakers?
Can I connect my Scarlett solo 3rd gen to my ipad 7th with this usb 3 camera adaptor?.. or will I need any extra usb in to give enough power
I’m having issues with only getting mono recordings onto my iPhone. It seems the L channel is printing panned in the center according to my test panning a track left and right? Does that make sense? Do I need to plug it in my computer and change a setting?
Will this setup work recording on FlStudioMobile on iPhone 7plus?? Or what app works to record ?
If i connect this to my iphone 8 can i film my performance with the iphone camera and get the audio directly into the video? instead of the audio being from the iphone mic.
I wan't to record with filmic pro on an iOS device. I want the best quality audio straight into filmic pro just to have less hassle with post production. So I guess the interface output is digital as the input of the iOS device. There should not be any loss of quality, right?
What ipad model do you need to power the scarlett that way? Because y saw people using powered usb hub. Thanks man!
what kind of usb hub will work to power the focusrite? how many amp for the output?
Can I use it with recording audio while using camera?
this video help me alot.thank you for making this video
tell me the app you are used to recording
i have a question. i do the same with an m audio fast track audio interface, but doesnt work. still saying no enought Power. camera lightning cable is only for 100 mA, and interface is much more Power?
By connecting your midi to your iPad. How would you then connect it to a powered mixer to get sound out of your 12” powered speakers ?
hey mate, how do you think, will it work with scarlett solo first gen as well ?
I see it's the 2nd gen you have so I curious... maybe you know thx ;)
and will the 5v power brick be sufficient to power up the ipad/iphone and the interface ?
WatchItGo! Unfortunately it doesn’t, in my experience. Needs another power source.
Do you need the AI even when using the midi or is it not needed? Also can I do this with android with just another adapter?
If i wanted to film my digital piano with my iphone camera connected to this interface would the audio be automatically transfered to my phone with the camera on?
Can you connect a Webcam at the same time as a Focusrite? (with a powered USB hub of course). I heard somewhere the iPad can only accept one (1) audio input device..
I do this to mine as well but, I wonder if over time if this would hurt the battery?
How do I send audio from the jack plug into my focusrite? I am already using the iRig on the miniusb
Can I use this with my Roland quad capture?? Please help!!!
Any advice on how to use the Focusrite 8i6 with TikTok? I can only hear myself as recorded on playback review. I should be able to hear myself live while recording along with the original video in my headphones . . . Connecting from 8i6 USB-C directly to iphone/ipad.
Excellent video! I have a question with audio interfaces! Have you tried connecting 2 IOS devices with an audio interface in the middle? Basically the 1st IOS is with garageband where you connect it to an audio interface and your mic then you put some output cables connecting from your interface to another IOS for video audio or probably an app that can do livestream (e.g. switcher app)? I got this idea but since I just have only 1 ios device and switcher app is only working for IOS at the moment, I can't try it! I just dont want to carry a laptop when doing a livestreaming on the go! :) Thanks in advance!! :)
Thank you, can a pair of headphones be connected to the interface while playing/ recording midi on GarageBand? As some iPads do not have headphones jacks
Is there latency issues from the iPad headphone jack?
Will a powered usb hub charge the iPad if running a male-to-male usb cable from the usb camera adapter to the hub
Hi. Thank you. My question ist: "how to connect Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 AND MIDI e-Piano (only USB) at the same time to iPad Air 3rd.Gen. and does e-Pad/GarageBand can handel both at the same time, so that I can record voice and piano per MIDI at the same time?"
Yeah but how long before it doesn’t work, i have the Steinberg UR 44 that was built specifically to work with the iPad, but for some reason GarageBand stopped supporting it, it still works with all my other daw’s on my iPad.
Would this work with the new iPad and usb c
Will it work if you plug your iPad directly to a mixer ?
Would this work for video????? Shooting home videos and I want to use my iPhone to record it so I’m wondering is this can also work for video
Is there any indication for plugging in the keyboard MIDI to the Focusrite audio interface?
I came here for the same, and there's actually no way to plug a USB keyboard into the Focusrite, if the keyboard doesn't have a MIDI-OUT interface.
😞
I will probably try to add a USB hub and plug it into the ligthing adapter, and put Focusrite and Keyboard into the hub.
But I wonder if the hub will need to be powered separatedly or if the lighting power cable plugged into the adapter will be able to power also the hub.
Can I use a power bank instad of the Black box?
Thank you for the good start. Just got my adapter and it worked using a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and the camera app. But when I tried it with Facebook live, I only get voice, no piano. Ideas?
Same here for IG too
Gnuth
I’m doing the same thing with the exact setup. However, I’m using some other kind of usb hub. My question is:
If you are feeding the hub with the power adapter - so that the iPad will get juice while supplying the focusrite - will it be sufficient so that the iPad will not run out eventually?
Cos on my machine it is slowly declining
We’re you able to fix this problem?
@@MichelleEstrada not really.. I think the problem is that the iPad’s charger (18W) is not that powerful for that, so basically it might be ok if you’re using a higher Watts charger. It might, however, damage your battery life of the iPad.
Trying to use my Scarlett 18i20 to send drum mic signals to my iPhone (channels 3-8) and I can’t get it to work. I’ve got a vocal mic (channel 2) and that’s working great. Any tips?
Do ypu need to install driver for focusrite or does ipad find it without problems?
Hi. I would like to ask if could you hear the sound coming from the iPhone through the Focusrite interface audio jack where you will put your headphone? Thanks
Scarlet 2i2 has a headphone jack for you to monitor the backing track. But I have never connected my iphone or ipad to my Scarlet 2i2. I am interested in trying that.
@@JustLetMeRant have you tried it yet?
@@HelmiKhalish I haven't.
Any answers?
Does this work for live streaming?
Do the headphones go into the focusright or the ipad?
What ipad do you use in the video??
Does it works with korg gadget 2?
Which battery power brick do you use? My Anker won’t run it!
Do I also need this Adapter when I want to connect the Focusrite to a Mac mini ?
What can I do if my Focusrite Solo 3 gen doesn't have separate power socket, so no power in my sound card.
thank u bro really helpful
Can i connect ps4 controller to my iphone using this adapter? I need controller to connect to my iphone wired.
Does this actually work?? Even with newer ipad pro?
Thank’s. I can connect to 2 phones at the same time? Thanks
is this work for android?
Can you use both your keyboard and Scarlett plugged into the iPad at the same time? Is there a single lightning to dual usb adapter to make this possible?
Nathan Jernigan use a Hub
If ran Serato on my laptop into my USB interface into this adapter into my phone, would that = streaming or recording with sound directly from Serato?
I've been testing multiple soundcards and devices on my channel ua-cam.com/channels/JkfQrscM5qbgW96P2AILPQ.html and it will probably work but why would you want to? You can record in Serato itself can't you? Or are you using an external mixer?
please tell me if it will be possible to broadcast on Instagram. this is only suitable for recording? can i stream?
Hi does the Adapter need to be an official Apple one ? as I have tried this with a cheep one from Amazon but the error (not enough power) appears & the i22 won’t power. But the the 48v led will eliminate when pressed ?? Bazar !.
sparky337 did you use the power box he showed in the video?
Can I use a usb hub after the camera adaptor and plug in both - my focusrite and a small midi keyboard like launchkey mini at the same time ? That would really complete the setup
You can buy an aftermarket lightning to USB adaptor with 1 lightning and 2 USB ports, imo its better solution for you.
@@sydneypanda Thanks
To power the interface, can we use standart iphone charger adapter with plugging to the wall?
I'm having trouble. I got the solo 2nd gen focusrite and it will work for a minute then I wont be getting any power to the interface. Could it be the apple adapter shorting out? My set up is just like your but for some reason it wont get power half of the time
That Devilish Cancer unfortunately I don’t think it works with the Solo - I’ve had to use an external power source and a USB splitter
Have you tried the evo 4 ?
Same as um2 behringer for connecter?
Could you connect the audio interface and the midi keyboard into a powered usb hub connected to iPad and have both running?
ua-cam.com/video/9UkRH6WccWU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BoloDaProducer
yeah
Great channel. I have this exact setup; but keep reading that I need a “ powered hub.” What’s the hub
you’re showing in the video? And can that power my iPad 2017/GarageBand/Focusrite 2i2 for my mobile podcast? Thanks.
Doug Winters Apple iOS powered camera connection kit
Is there latency with this setup?
Does this work for the focusrite itrack Solo? I’ve been having issues getting any input signals from my iPad to interface.
Tom same. Did you sort it?
Did not work with my Focusrite Solo 3rd gen.
@@rickbluelake1 same
Same
Hi! I did same set up as you in solo2ndGen but I found out it’s not fully working (mic is fine but guitar sounds very low). Could it be the case I need a powered usb?
did you finally fixed this? I'm having the same problem...
Powered USB adapter won’t work as they’re set to a limit output. The low sound could be from the gain staging process as there isn’t an input gain on an iPad. You could try making sure the input of the interface is set to INSTRUMENT and push up the gain from there. If the guitar is fine but gets quieter when recording You might need to have no fx on the iPad as they could be overloading it at the recording stage. Other option is turn up the interface volume so u can hear it, maybe even push up the volume fader in the iPad too. Last thing I’d do is record the audio as is. Within iPad add a compressor to the track. Turn off or change the settings so it’s not compressing and just push up the make up gain or output knob. As long as the signal isn’t clipping you’re good. It’s easier to raise the volume than fix bad audio. Hope any of these work.
I am not get audio out of the iPad head jack from GarageBand with the 2i2
I have a question! I’m using the Scarlett 2i2 and I’m trying to record with my iPhone but doesn’t works just turns the lights on, it’s anything else I can do?
Friend, does it work with iPhone? How many channels can be recorded simultaneously? Do you record with 24-bit audio? thank you.
I believe you can. Please reply if you’ve tried and it didn’t work as I plan to order an adapter. If you still haven’t attempted ,I’ll let you know if I get it to work. Pretty sure it’ll be fine as both iPad and iPhone are iOS.
@@williambock1821 I noticed that after all this work I would get only 2 channel and only 16 bit audio. So I bought a zoom recorder, and if you need something more complete, connect it to the notbook. 😃
Can this be done with a usb hub and adapters (already have)? Trying to find the right setup
Focusrite recommend that you plug into a computer and if you're going to use a hub make sure its powered.
Doesn't work with my iphone 12 mini, any ideas why? I've tried many ways with extra power via a USB hub etc. Does USB 3.0 cables work?
Hello Friend! Thanks for the video! Is it possible to do a instagram live using the Instagram app for iOS and capture audio from interface inputs?
What is the black box your using called
The charger to power interface , is it just a normal charger ?
Thank god...makes life easier especially since the GarageBand version on the iPad is superior to the one on the laptop.
Im interested, why do you say so?
So a usb hub is not needed ? is it replaced by the usb to lightning adapter that has a lightning input to charge .if anyone knows pleas tell me
the camera adapter says its for the Ipad pro. So this adapter does not work for a Non pro earlier Ipad ?
So how can I connect a Launchpad to my iPad and also run the audio through something like an Audiohub?
What’s that free app called? Can u send a link
Hi, this setup method used to work for me, but ever since upgrading the iOS it doesn't seem to matter what power adaptor and/or dock I use, it keeps complaining about it not having enough power
Mine does this only when it’s at 100% full battery, let the battery drain a bit then try again. Works for me.
Can you do a video on a iPhone GarageBand
I have connected the usb camera adapter to Iphone 11 via lighting’s port and to the fousrite 2i2 via USB. To power it I am using iphone original fast charging adapter and powering it to through the lightning port of the Camera adapter. All i am getting is clicking sound with blinking power light on focusrite. Can anyone help ??
Hi there! Need some help. I did what you said, but I am trying to record a video using this adapter. Is that possible? My 48V button on the Scarlett is giving me a "clicking" noise and is constantly blinking. Am I doing something wrong?
if it didn't work you need to use a higher wattage 5v charge adapter... or alternatively use a powered usb hub instead and connect the interface > powered usb hub > apple adapter > ipad
Do I have to download drivers on iPad?
hello friend, good video, i hope you can help with a problem, could you explain why, when I connect the iPad 2 AIR with the camera adapter (not the original, but it especifically says taht this device works for USB/MIDI interface), with the Focusrite 2i2, the following message appears "it does not have enough power" despite having connected the iPad to the power adapter?.
My current version of IOS is 11.4.1
It works well, thank you for your response.
I did everything on the set up. My focusrite interface turn on 48v works but the iphone 7 wont capture the sound from the interface instead using the phones mic. When i click input on garageband theres no input come out like in the video. Help pls
im doing everything youre doing but my scarlett isnt turning on. My ipad is connected to the outlet thru the exact same adapter. Not sure what to do
Samuel Correa your probably not receiving enough juice, safe bet is to buy a powered USB hub and have that connected to the iPhone/iPad so the iPad is not powering your other devices like the midi’s and stuff
I got the lighting apple chord but still n working.
But, can you connect to an Ipad and also use a usb controller at the same time??
I've the 4i4 and it turns on but power cycles and will not stay on. I would've went with 2i2 if I knew this ...
Can you tell me if there is a way to connect my pro saffire 24 to an ipad?
KYO Records definitely not possible. I don’t think you can connect any FireWire stuff at all. Wish you could.
but how can I achieve midi AND audio over usb? I got the apple camera adapter, an usb dac, my usb midi controller and a usb hub. if I connect my midi keyboard it works fine. If I connect my usb dac it works fine. but both together won't work at all. i'm powering the camera adapter with 3A. should be plenty enough. Do I rlly need to buy an audio interface with midi? that sucks..
Hey! What app are you using on your iPad? I've looked up 5 million videos and it seems to be common knowledge, but I have no clue ahaha
Garageband!
quick question I just found a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen at a pawn shop for like 50$ so I bought it. But now I’m trying to connect it to the iPad (5th gen 2017 model) and I get a screen saying “Cannot use this accessory- Scarlett 2i2 usb: this accessory requires to much power”. I see you have a Scarlett 212. Have you experienced this? Anyway to get around it?
By the way I’m using a apple camera connection kit 3. The one with usb and lightning connection. I have lighting connection going into the wall.
Can you tell me how to solve “”’ ... this accessory requires to much power “ I have same question .
iPad.pro IOS 12.1.4 Thanks you so much
Did you get a solution? I think I have a similar problem,
Ok so what iOS app are with this interface?
When I hook my focusrite into my phone it just blinks constantly and won’t work :( could I fix this problem possibly?
