The game, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, was made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, who provided material for the game's setting. Elden Ring is scheduled to be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022.

I just finished it after 138 hours, and it's been an astonishing adventure
I concur on the scary part. Yes it is indeed danger on every corner. It is the first time I am actually afraid to explore an open world because of knowing how brutal even just the normal enemies are.
So accurate about learning. You approach a situation a certain way and you keep failing. So you experiment. Try different things until it suddenly works. Bloody amazing game.
Johnny I just love hearing your opinions on games ( and Kim’s of course ). Even tho I haven’t played 90% of the older titles you talk about, your opinions and thoughts on games are such a joy to watch. This is my first time playing a souls game. I'm glad I decided to preorder it after what Im hearing about it.

Enjoy! Don't get turned off by the difficulty. They're not nearly as hard as their reputation. They're really special games to me. It's always cool seeing new people get into them.

It's a great game and is actually pretty chill. I love how easy it is to explore and avoid massive enemies. I think alot of newcomers are making it harder than it needs to be. You don't have to fight everything, just retreat and go check some other place out. The world is massive.
when i got a ps1, i just got some random games. one was "Kingsfield". took me forever to get into it. didn't understand it at all for months. when i finally got into it, the RPG and challenging nature of it hooked me, the music, it was a GREAT game. its crazy to see From Software basically has kept the "soul" (no pun intended) of their games basically the same and the increase in tech/graphics. Kingsfield is still one of my most favorite games and if watch it now, its blocky ugly ps1 graphics. but they just know how to make challenging, fun world games with awesome creatures, and a great loot system/skill tree. so addictive.
Kings Field 1 - 4 are some of my favorite PS1 rpgs. Also love Armored Core 1 - 3.

I'm like 40 hours in dude. I haven't slept properly since it came out. Best game I've played in years.
I've only played for two hours, but I'm already amazed by freedom. No markers, no required quests, just adventures.

Well some required quests so not quite true
@@therealbalto24 The only "required quest" is the story. You can be 40 hours in and still not beat the first boss story-wise.
@@silenthero2795 there is so many areas locked behind quests. I'm 60 hrs in and on the giants mountain. I can tell you " sure they not "required" but you're going to miss out on a lot of content and bosses if you think that.
So far I got attacked and killed by a goat, a knight, some asshole on a horse and what looked like a bat, fell off a cliff, drowned in a lake, bit by a rock and chased off a couple rabid squirrels.
I don't know where I'm supposed to go with this elder ring, like where am I bringing it? I can't even find the damn thing in my inventory anymore, did they steal it from me?
I have tried so many Souls games: Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne and as much as I love the aesthetic and point of the game I just suck to such a degree that I can never get over the learning curve and feels like I waste my money. I try to love these games and want to be good enough to play em but I've never been able to get the hang of them.
I am glad to hear that this game is living up to the hype for all the Souls fans out there.
Good comment, I can relate to this .. much as I'd love to be able to play this and get better at it I just don't have the time and energy as a 'casual' player. It really does look amazing and i do hope people get to enjoy this and lives up to the hype! Maybe one day they might have an easier mode for some of us haha
I could’ve written your comment word for word, because that’s exactly how I feel about Souls games. I’m finally taking the plunge on a Souls game with Elden Ring. I’ll update you later with how I do, I’ve heard it’s a little easier than your typical Souls game. If I do ok with it, than anybody can do it, because I suck at them. Also, what’s so bad about having an easy mode? I mean really, what the f*ck?
@@themailman3331 Same here. I fancy myself as a pretty decent gamer but I have no patience for games with crazy hard bosses that take me multiple tries to beat. It usually turns me off of a game pretty quick. I think I might give this game a rip though , hopefully I can get through a good chunk of It before hitting a big road block.

I was a bit nervous posting the comment initially expecting a bunch of "get good" replies but I am happy to see that didn't happen. I don't want them to drop difficulty, or make it accessible to me. I am happy this genre exists. The closest game to it that I've ever beaten was Jedi: Fallen Order and that game was pretty forgiving.
@@themailman3331 yes please do tell us how you get along with it, I would definitely consider also taking the plunge it if I knew i had a good chance at progressing in the game. The lore and atmosphere of this game looks to good to just pass up!
I took a week of PTO to play this game at launch. I was avoiding all videos about this game until I was content {Even though I know you don't spoil) and it was honestly the first time in a long time a game made me lose track of time. I loved it
You described perfectly what I was feeling in the beginning of this game. Hesitant to do anything because of how large, daunting, and brutal this world is. I’m about 10 hours in or so and it’s one of the most rewarding games I’ve ever played so far. The fact that I’ve only explored the first area of the map is insane and I can’t wait to dive deeper into this masterpiece.
Hell yeah! This game will punish button mashing and sometimes punishes cowardace, but it rewards curiosity and rewards the use of crafting even further, especially if you're playing a ranged specialist with bows and bombs and throwing items. Its nice because you can earn runes while stocking up your arrow supply or preparing a specific kind of arrow or coating for a specific enemy.
I know journalists said this was good, but I was waiting for this review just to make sure. Glad this game is living up to its hype!

I'm so excited for this game, I lose my breath just watching videos like this. Seeing all my favorite UA-cam channels putting out their thoughts on this game is great. And it's been overwhelmingly positive. So much so that this game feels like it's gonna be GOTY if not Horizon.
I have never felt more anxious towards playing a game in my life. I've logged around 13 hours and I find myself just looking around for info about the world and just reading item descriptions for lore or watching other people play in the early game. I've never felt such a strong sense of freedom and exploration in any game ever it's almost intimidating.
Elden Ring is excellent.
I come from thousands of hours played on mostly Dark Souls 2 & 3, but I have beaten Dark Souls 1 a few times. I played through Bloodborne three times and Sekiro twice. I was playing Nioh in anticipation for ER release.
Now it is here, and I am loving it. I have limited time due to school, but I am squeezing an hour or two/day for exploration and dying, haha.
I got stuck for a little while, getting beat up by archers and the giant, then I said screw it and rode the horse right through it all and I'm back to making progression again :] Sometimes I get caught up in thinking I have to kill everything
I really like the way you give your views. You are honest and it shows and your experience in gaming through those years is remarquable.👍
I appreciate that they released this and Horizon Forbidden West for PS4 and PS5. It's great for all the people who couldn't get a PS5 or don't have one yet.
And I might be that person playing Elden Ring as their first Dark Souls game in just a little bit here. I knew about it, but didn't like it for the longest time. I couldn't get into it. Now I appreciate them...but I haven't gotten to playing any of them yet.
I get my PS5 copy tomorrow but, you just look around in awe and feel overwhelmed at the same time with how vast the game seems to be. I get like that sometimes with some games and it almost makes me want to savor the moment and not play it/beat it. Does anyone else get that way? I'm like that with a few games: The Last of Us Part II, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil 2, etc.
YEP. Same here. I was like this with BOTW, DMC 5 and also FF7 remake. Wanted to enjoy every last second of it and never wanted it to end as I know it'll be a long time for the next one in the series.
i love open world games that require plenty of hours of gameplay making every penny worth it
I get exactly what u mean lol I have literally not beaten some games because I always want a reason to go back to it in a meaningful way. It's a love for an experience you don't really want to end in a weird way.
I absolutely feel that way I'm in middle of Dying Light 2 on series x and Horizon 2 on PS5 and tomorrow I get Elden Ring for PS5 and I'm overwhelmed but don't want it to end lol
Oh hell YEAHHH...
I've beaten all the souls games, but they have always terrified me. They have always been so good at creating internal fear. The ambient sounds, the music, the environments, the enemies, and then throw in the constant worry of losing your souls, it's just a perfect mix and brews fear. And don't even get me started on Bloodborne and it's HP Lovecraftian stuff they threw in.
Just like Frodo Baggins, You had the same overwhelming feelings of the unknown land ahead of you 👏👌

I had the physical copy ordered on Amazon for my series x but with a big snowstorm coming I decided to go for the digital version I need to play this game tomorrow.
I got it on series x too, set your location to new zealand in settings to play it 10 hrs early. last time i pre ordered a game i was truly hyped for was halo 3.

@@CompleteProducer84 ya I was able to cancel. If I buy another copy of the game it’ll be in steam when I eventually hopefully get a steam deck later this year. I considered getting it on pc first to play with friends but my graphics card isn’t nearly as powerful as the series x is.

So close to release I'm a souls vet remember talking about it in the gamefaq days before Reddit was huge haha Elden Ring is how our memory of our first playthrough of Dark Souls looks lmao it's crazy years ago me and friends playing RDR2 saying man, I wish we had a dark souls style game like this and it's hours away. This game looks fantastic and it’s definitely my style of game but sadly my backlog is so massive that I’ll probably never get around to playing it.

I'll never understand people who put on airs with "backlogs". I get that many people don't have the time to play games these days but it can be in your hands tomorrow. Just pop it in and try it. No need to play your games in the order you bought them. That's just silly
@@starwarzfan49 this doesnt work with story based games , if you play too many you will start to disconnect from at least a few of your games' stories. its best to dedicate yourself to as little as possible , unless its a game with no dialogue then you can play a lot of them at once.
@@Timotarius_ 100% agree. Backlog is also so incredibly long and have already bought so many titles still in plastic spanning multiple consoles. Not upset by that but being a huge RPG fan i love getting lost in the stories and the general ride. If i switch between different titles at the same time i definitely get rust or fall out of ok what was going on? How do i do this or that etc. Or i fall out of the developed connection with characters and general storyline. With that being said...this looks like something id like to add but probably wouldnt get around to at current pace until twenty25 😂😂

I agree, coming from the first Nintendo to now, Elden Ring ----- it's incredible. I've had a few 5AM nights since it released and I'm still at the start.
1:00 You playing the Ornstein and Smough theme in the background gave me a bit of some PTSD war flashback moments lol 😂. That boss is horrifying
I ordered both. Playing horizon forbidden west lately. I enjoy it and taking my time to do side quests most of the time. I'm not into soul games but I will give it a try again.
There are 2 other games I'm interested in seeing. Ghostwire and Forspoken.
This is my first Dark Souls game and it’s absolutely brutal. Something keeps drawing me back to it though. It’s an intriguing world. I’m not sure whether I have the patience (or skill) for it over the long term, but we shall see!
Exactly my feeling. The most important rule seems to pay attention to enemy movement pattern. You have to learn what movements indicate which attack pattern.
Truly feels like From Soft's magnum opus 😘 can't wait for my copy to arrive tomorrow

I held off on Pokémon Arceus, the campaign mode for Halo Infinite and the expanded Nintendo Online system but I can't hold off on this new Souls game. Now this looks like a new game worth paying premium for. I'm hyped.

You go explore, everything's fine, you forget for a second that this is a FromSoftware game...
Then you find a place... You stand in front of it... Turn the camera around to make sure it's safe... Hesitantly take a few steps inside... See an enemy that's scary...

I was lucky enough to upgrade my PC right before Covid and managed a 3080 Ti so had to go the PC route. There are some minor stutters(nothing that's killed me yet 5 hours in) for me when it happens fps drops to 45 at most for half a second before jumping back up to a solid 60 with max settings. I can't wait to see what this game looks like after the ray tracing patch those views are going to be breathtaking. Mouse and Keyboard controls are also working well enough.
Yeah, the perf issues are kinda annoying on PC version (2060 here), but overall it's pretty amazing
I couldn't believe the visuals of when I first lifted a torch in a cave with some legitimate dark corners.👌

I love doing as much as I can until it comes to challenges. I’ll do as many as I can but if I gotta try a hundred times to do things a certain way in a certain amount of time then I will move on. Exploration, story, bosses and enemies are where I’ll spend my precious time 😆

The thing that imho makes Elden Ring surpass every other Open World game ever made is, like you said, that sense of *fear* . The game is so incredibly challenging and punishing, but the rewards for overcoming those obstacles are truly awe-inspiring worlds, creatures, magic, weapons, etc. This is my first From game, and honestly its on the fast track to becoming my favorite game of all time.

I am souls veteran, so I really liked ER. The game gave me a huge old school vibe. I pretty much felt the same thing I felt when I played my first Might & Magic game: a huge open world game were you have zero idea what to do and where to go. It brought back some old memories. I can't see that game not getting GOTY. This game is special.

Hands down best game I've played in years. Ghost of Tsushima was also amazing. But elden ring is truly a masterpiece and will talked about for generations to come
I’m also fairly new to the souls games. Only played Bloodborne, I loved it and got the platinum.
This game is on another level. Stunning detail in the game. The huge variety in enemies (who would of thought you would fight a hand as an enemy haha). The fun/fear of exploring a different area.
The satisfaction you get after losing all of your runes to a boss, to then go around exploring and coming back at a higher level and defeating them.
Not even halfway through the game and it’s a masterpiece. The amount of people i’ve heard say I don’t like demon souls games that are now playing this and loving it!
I put over 1000 hours into Zelda BOTW, This looks like Zelda on a PS7

John I am the same about all these latest games and coming from the same era as you. Can’t believe it but that’s progress and where will it be in another 30 -40 years
And everything started with a humble, sloppy PS1 game called King's Field. And that's a testament to the way japanese people approach a challenge: with patience and humbleness, learning and improving. From Software should remaster all those old legacy games: Eternal Ring, Shadow Tower, King's Field. Without them, Elden Ring and the Souls franchise in general would have never seen the light of day.

This truly looks like it could be the best From Software has put out. It’s beautiful, combat is smoother than before, and they continue to put out worlds with amazing lore.
After 50 hours so far and beating I don't know how many bosses. There is a stupid amount. I reckon I've killed like 70+ and im not even close to finishing. Its the best game of all time.
It’s not knowing what your going to find in the world. I think forbidden west is an amazing game but you know what your enemy’s are going to be, robot animals and bandits. You know what the NPCs are going to do and say. You know you get a spear and a bow. Every fromsoft game has all the new discoveries and the lore and crazy weapons and spells to find. I love not knowing what’s coming next. Can’t wait to play this one.

This is going to be the first From game I'm actually hyped for and pre ordered. I know the overwhelming feeling of playing multiple games at once and I'm safe to say I'm so glad that's not the case for me. Right now I'm happy to focus only on Elden Ring and I can't wait. PS5 Owners >>> If you paid digital vs disc, make sure you download and play the PS4 version (which is locked at silky smooth 60 FPS with negligible graphics fidelity vs PS5 Performance Mode which doesn’t maintain 60 FPS). You can transfer your PS4 Save to PS5 once they optimize the PS5 version.

you describe it just right my friend the fear but at the same time getting the courage to complete that dungeon And after so many times of dying and you finally completed it The feeling of you accomplishment is better than whatever the boss dropped lol 😆
Bought it yesterday. Sat down to play and only got like 15 min in and I was like I gotta shut it off.
I realized I didn't have enough time to get immersed so I had to shut it down.
Gotta sit back down when I have a few hours to really absorb it!
Ive been gaming since the nes days too and seeing what its become its astonishing. I feel bad for younger gens for the fact they cant have that kind of perspective. I missed the atari days but it wasnt so far back i never used one, i knew what they were. And arcades were huge still. The industry grew up right along w me it seemed and im grateful to have got in when i did its been so much fun.
I'm glad to be exposed to your perspective because i grew up in 90s with (ps1) and on, with the early polygons. and to see where we come in 20+ years is insane. I always thought it would be more insane show these 2022 games to players in the early 80s.

I'm playing Horizon at the moment and really liking it but elden ring looks to be on a completely different level! I cannot wait to play this!
Going from Horizons visuals and performance to Elden's visuals and performance is really shocking (as in, not in a good way)
@@NewYears1978 the graphics are not the best, but the art direction is second to none. Elden ring has a lot more customization as well. The world is much more interesting to traverse too. Elden ring> horizon 2.

@@musicfilmhead9051 Don't get me wrong, I love this game. But the performance is awful and it feels horrible to play. I bought the PS5 version first and that one sucked. Played the PS4 on PS5 and that was smooth but looked pretty bad.
I purchased the PC version after that (so yeah, I am a huge Fromsoft fan, I have plat in most all their games) and it feels A LOT better. I have been playing that for awhile. Still some bad drops and major stutter. I hope they fix it in a patch and sooner rather than later.
I'm 38 years old, and I'm also scared about the quality of games coming out. How am I going to remain a responsible adult through all this?
Just looks like Bloodborne to me but brighter and more open world.

I was definitely curious to see what you thought on this. I'm not sure I've seen your take on a Souls game before. I can't wait to dig in to this. I really suggest you get into the pvp scene a little on this. Fight clubs in Darks Souls is where its at.

Elden Ring: Dying is a gift
So Id love some advice.
Ok so ive never played Dark souls. Or even an open world game properly. I tried to play witcher 3 but got killed by mega monsters on the way to give an old man a key or something, i played 7 hpurs I feel like games have to many mechanics now, crafting, skill trees. so many new attacks to learn. its intimidating (im 40 btw) I started with bimb jack on the sincair
I even felt like MG5 was too much with the mother base stuff, MGS 1 and 2 I loved.
I think its cuase i skipped the PS3/360 gen because i had a girlfriend who woiudnt let me play games.
The last big game I finished was god of war. I found the combat fun and the exploration fun. Aster that was RE8 which I did in like 2 days. I loved that
Im playing cyperpunk 2077 now but after 10 hours I realise im not doing anything other than following the path.(on easy) I find the mechanics to complicated and anything outside of the main path cgallenges me to much because I dont know what im doing with the hacking stuff
I am loving what everyone is saying about this game and it seems really special. I want this experience but just feel like im going to give up after 20 deaths which i assume will be after 30mins of playing. I dont want to play the game and be a coward, I want the full experience. And I dont want to give up
Can i get some advice on how to go about this?
I was in the pits a few weex ago about modern games, but I did mention that I loved Souls (because it shatters modern trends like coddling). I wasn't tracking Elden's development or anything, but I just found out it was releasing on the 25th, so, I'm eagerly awaiting release to just live in this world. Farron GS all day (it'll be there, I sense it).

Me too I am so overwhelm how big the game is and the verticality and scared of missing things and I got fed up and trying to do things case by case.
Already bought it, waiting a couple more hours until it starts to download.
I beat on this game at first because I was looking at it all wrong ,like I did with hollow knight, 70hours in and haven't scratched ther surface yet, it has flaws but is unbelievably well put together game
