- I think this modification is working better for me. I swapped the male Japanese style fitting for a 1/4" female SAE quick connect fitting and purchased a 25 foot coiled air hose with 3/8” diameter for better air flow and versatility. I’ll list the parts used below. Smittybilt 2781 Air Compressor is working great. Fast air on the trail or in the RV.

Thank you so much for this. I just upgraded the pinbox on my 5th wheel to a Goosebox, that has a built in airbag. This stupid air inflation chuck that comes with the smittybilt won't work at all. I've been wanting to convert all the connections over to the normal Automotive or industrial and you're video is exactly what I needed, plus the mention and sharing of the other videos for the pressure switch mode are perfect. Now I plan to fit up a small 1-2 gallon tank on my truck and camper, and just be able to easily move the compressor between the 2 if need be. Many thanks sir!

I completely removed the leader hose and fitting and used a 12x 1.25mm to 1/4 NPT female coupler (20$) and put a Standard quick connect on the coupler. I had to use a few washers in the place of the chrome looking piece. The coupler I used three layers of teflon tape and some teflon paste to seal it. The male threads on the coupler were straight and not tapered. Could not get 12 x 1.25mm tapered male threads. But it worked great. I like your video. Inexpensive way to make it happen for standard air fittings you have done. I think we all agree that the japanese fittings are a pain in the arse.
I did some of these mods to my smittybilt compressor to use with the speedflate 4 tire air up system I use on my Jeep. Works like a champ. Next is the pressure switch mod, and power connector at the grill. I don’t like lifting my hood to air up on my lifted Jeep. Important to remember though, depending on what accessory you are using, there are automotive grade air fittings and industrial. They are not always compatible. My speedflate system uses industrial fittings.

I have the all top compressor which is almost identical to the smitty built and has the same Japanese fittings.
I also changed mine and one tip I have is after cutting off the old couplings is to heat the rubber hose to make it easier to insert the 1/4 fittings. The first time I did it without heat and the pipe ruptured at the fitting.
I also used a spring over the hose at the fitting as a support.

FYI the Milton Type V are an excellent upgrade for fittings over the standard Type T or M. The Type V are a high flow design and flow noticeably more air. They also accept the standard but will leak slightly if you tilt to the side a bit

Ive been looking for quick ez mods.. you definitely went the longer route.. ive seen added pressure switches and moded airfittings.... improved it for sure.. im gonna go with an improved air hose as you did with a free flow air chuck and we are done.. air gauge in the bag to check pressure..

This compressor is identical to the Ironman 4x4 Air Champ Pro (model # icompressor004), except that the Ironman has the standard fittings and a 25ft hose. Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy the compressor “already modded”.
But doesn't the Smittybilt have a 5 yr warranty compared to Ironman's 1 yr?

Is there a hose that will fit straight from the compressor with out buying any connection. Also don't want to use the china tire inflator. Just like to buy digital tire inflator and buy a hose straight connect compressor?

Hey buddy if u looking for more volume u need to keep same size ID hoses and fittings straight from the tail all the way to the end coupler,largest ID hose you can use
Yep.... That’s what I did with this mod. All 1/4” id from compressor to chuck.

would you feel comfortable connecting this pump to a tank? looking to install in my vehicle under the hood and hard wire, with possible plans to expand to a tank

Great thanks I did it. I switched it all over to the arb set up. But the I need some kind of in line blow off valve to regulate the air. Everything is fine if I constantly release the air pressure. Any ideas?
You need a pressure switch on the compressor. Like this one I installed on my Smittybilt

The air gauge is garbage too. It doesn't read the psi right either
