Best line may be "You're worse than Enright!" when Goodwyn won't stop coaching him on every detail of the performance. It shows how similar the government is to the entertainment industry, and in his desire for success, Goodwyn (ironically named, isn't he?) is in fact somewhat like Enright. Both are ambitious Jews who sort of look up to the WASP establishment that hjas the real power, and feel they have to protect and defer to them. At the end, Goodwyn realizes that Charlie isn't worth admiring or protecting, whereas earlier he romanticized their genteel aristocratic and cultured way of life. But all that was implied in Tuturro's line "You're worse than Enright!" which makes him confront for the first time how similar they actually are. It's an incredibly brilliant and subtle story, almost Shakespearean. For example, the Goodwyn-Enright relationship has certain parallels in the relationship between elder and younger van Doren, where each has to come to terms with idealization, rivalry, and very uncomfortable self-examination leading to painful but real growth.
