I don't think I could pick this game up for anything other than free, it seems kinda trash. Phuzzy is trying his best to show us the high points, but I'd rather stick to Sea of Thieves and hope this game pressures them to fix more of their problems.

Problem is, that this game does not pressure rare in any instance, because it is closer to "The Division" then to any other game. And you see how people talk about the game. Why should i be scared about a game, wich gets one bad review after another.

The naval in this game feels like a rail shooter. There is nothing about the game that feels like the sea. A jetski is closer to the similarity to the physics of sail than these ships.

The only sad part about the singing is that the “yo ho” song that you played only plays once, when leaving port on your first captained ship. At least, in 1 day and 2 hours of playtime I never heard it again

It defenitely plays from time to time or to be precise: It can be played by the crew. I heard it multiple times.
Drunken sailor however only appeared once by random for me. I tried to manually play it aswell just now and it works but Its pretty rare compared to the other shanties. Same goes for the Skull&Bones Shanty. Its just rare I guess

Why do the ships take off like they have 14 outboard motors and instantly stop on a dime? It looks like GTA car physics with a pirate ship.

With how often you have to start and stop, if you didn't brake and accelerate fast the game would get super annoying fast.

One thing I love from Sea of Thieves is the lack of HUD and having to look for things yourself. Games nowadays look like we have the ironman interface with cluttered information all over the place and this game looks exactly like that. Not a big fan.

To be honest, even if it's far from being perfect and not the most historically accurate, I do have fun exploring the in-game world and hunting for isolated merchant ships to take their loot. The gameplay of piloting a whole ship reminds me of Eve Online but much simpler and more relaxing, being more focused on PVE.
Get that bag man, but this game is actual hot garbage.
It really isn't. It's fun and easily worth 40 bucks. Just not the 60 or even 70 for consoles

Crazy Black Flag and Rogue were better sailing adventure games. This game could have been the greatest Pirate game ever. All they had to do was make Black Flag but multiplayer and bigger.

I loved that old game. I definitely thought of that first when I saw the type of ship combat - but in PotCO you could both BE the ship and/or play as a crewmember on a friend's larger ship to boost the kinds of cannonballs you can fire. It was amazing.

I'll probably pick it up in a year or two if it hasn't died yet ... and on a super sale ... if I don't "OWN" my games with Ubisoft... the less inclined in giving them my money.
It's a bare minimum of a pirate, it's not even a pirate game. A ship battle game. When you control your character on hubs feels disconnected from the world, an afterthought and it feels like it used to be a menu but made it into a hub. Imagine watching Pirates of the Caribbean but all the footage happens on the ship. The atrocious Pre-orders packs, MTXs design to milk a sinking ship. Overall, it feels like a chore to play Skulls and Bones.
Gotta love all the gate keeping going on. If someone is fun playing it, let them have fun. Didn't know the fun police had so many members lately.

That's not gake keeping. I hate gate keeping. This is watching out for shitty companies who only want to squeeze every pennies from us consumers, while not getting us good games. You can have fun with wooden sticks and just your fantasy, but you wouldn't pay 70$ for it.

@@Shiro8905 Oh I agree you should always watch out, but at the end of the day, it is said consumer that determines if something is fun or not. It is a consumers job to look at a product and judge if they'll get worth out of it, and buy it if they think it'll be worth it. Money amount is just another factor in that judgement. Even if they paid $100 for it, if they think they got their time and had fun with it, then that is all that matters. After all, what constitutes a bad game and a good game are subjective to each person.
This is no different from Starfield, which some utterly hate and others absolutely love. The problem here, is that Ubi Sing were making game A, their first full game, and had a bunch of internal problems that kept forcing it back. Even though they were making game A, consumers wanted game B, or game C. They looked at previous work and thought it'll be just like that, instead of something different, so they judge based on what they thought it should be. So despite telling everyone over and over again they are making game A, the people hate it because it isn't game B or C. Their not judging the game based on what it offers. Their judging it because they wanted something else. THAT is my main issue, which you are right isn't gate keeping, though some are edging towards it.
I don't know, maybe I'm in the minority of thinking here, but I refuse to judge a game based on the fact it wasn't something else. I judge it based on what it is. Oh yeah, their are problems with the game, there is no doubt about that and I can easily name several problems I have (Fact we can't throw away treasure maps is infuriating to me), but I also dare you to name a game that doesn't have problems. Lord knows Sea of Thieves at launch wasn't that good. So far though, from the 40 hours I've put into the game, I'll say I'm getting my money's worth, as do a bunch of other people. That could change in the future, we'll see, game JUST came out after all, but at the moment I'm having fun, and to me, that is all that matters.
Played two betas, seems pretty fun!
I wish the friend-limit was bigger and there were even more weapon options, but if it ever goes on Steam or on Sale down to $40 I'll definitely get it since I did have fun.

They simply shouldn't get away with it & I'm happy they aren't by any means so far. This game is not selling well & it deserves to not sell well. If you're having fun man by all means; Play the game; Be the odd one out & lay down way too much money for this. That's not of my concern. The problem is that Ubisofts only form of feedback will be money & the only way they will start get their shit in order is if this doesn't sell well.

hole game is dull and boring. its funny that the only people saying nice things about it got payed over 1k to play it. granted flacor has been sucking the game off for months but the quality of his videos has honestly fallen in the last few months. that and he has become a bit of a man child
Didn't think i was going to like this game, and i loath giving ubisoft money, but i was surprised by how much i enjoyed the open beta. There are a ton of valid complaints against it, and it's not going to be for everybody but I'm actually having a pretty good time with it. It's no substitute for SoT but it's different enough to not really directly compete with it.
Just wait until you see that the open beta and release are close to the same thing.

Game isn't for everyone, I enjoy it, I can clearly see by the other comments others don't feel the same and that's fine, but I had an enjoyable time in open beta, and got what I expected. If you aren't sure if you'll like the game I suggest if you get it, get it on sale, as it's on a pricier side of things. I hope to see the game make a turnaround after 1st year similar to sea of thieves where more content is dropped over the course of time.

It looks like a good game, but not good enough for $70. I’ll also wait for a sale, but the haters are most likely people who wanted a better, modern version of black flag without the AC elements or SOT PvP sweats who can’t stand the PvE people they love to attack on the daily moving somewhere else where they can do stories and adventures without forced PvP.
I have played both AC Black Flag and Sea of Thieves. I think this game is a good change of pace and I like it for what it is. The focus on naval combat is something different and enjoyable. The higher you get, the more strategy you have to put in as the enemies have different types of weapons and maneuvers. Currently working on getting a tank ship up to the with the Dutch Merchant Company. They like to use a lot of mortar strikes. @@19JDOG91
Commenters acting like they don’t understand how sponsorships work or how it is literally the streamers job and livelihood. Let’s not pretend that anyone here wouldn’t do the same. Phuzzy announcing it’s a sponsored video is the only disclaimer he needs to give. Let’s also not forget he has streamed this game multiple times and made unsponsored content for it as well. The comment section feels like some of you are trying to shame a content creator for his literal job and or bully them into having an opinion that aligns with your own. EVEN if phuzzy didn’t enjoy the game, which he seems to actually do, it would be well within his right and a good strategy as a streamer to play and show the newest game. The curiosity and obvious vitriol it will bring is good business for a content creator as it brings engagement and views. He’s literally a pirate streamer ya’ll. This is a pirate game. People have a problem with content creators who won’t give criticism because they’re being paid to give a polished review. Some creators, give honest opinions of the game, good and bad. And good game/developers let them because they have faith in the game. Some people will see this review and be influenced to buy it just because their favorite UA-camr made a positive video about, but didn’t tell them any of the negatives or what they don’t like. Some people feel the creator is responsible for not selling out and respecting their audience by not promoting a game they don’t really enjoy or giving a real perspective of the game and not cherry pick around the good things. Not claiming he doesn’t enjoy it, but there was a lack of constructive criticism in his review. Which means he was clearly holding back somethings because just about every game has its problems. No doubt this one with how divided people are. So instead of demanding people respect what he’s doing, you respect their right to have an opinion and their right be upset if they feel like they’re being mislead by a UA-camr they like.

I love pirate themes in games an movies. I've quit many games quite quick, but none as fast as this game. I quit not even 10 minutes into this €80 AAAA game. Ubisoft is litearlly just telling you that this game is AAAA top of the line but it's not. I'm not telling anyone to not have fun with this game but my god it's delayed multiple times and it's literally just skull and bones without any juicy meat to get into. If you like this game, go play AC black flag, you'll love that game.
Oh, the gameplay reminds me of other games like Naval Action or Tortuga, even older games. Here we have a simplified gameplay making it more accessible and arcadey.
It is fine, the naval battle is quick and dirty, you can jump into the fray and learn the ins and outs. I like it too.
Moreover, thanks for one of the seldom useful reviews of the game besides those laden with emotional comparisons or disdain for being too simple (although, there is some depth later when builds and tools become more available).
Yeah, the builds for the other ships really are interesting. I'm working out some builds for different ships and plan on using different ones for different activities in the game.

It could be some good arcade fun but not for that price for a game sponsored as "Quadruple A" that come after Sea of Thieves and AC4 Black Flag.
70 is way too much,Xbox did the same mistake a while ago with SoT but they dropped it to 40 which is a perfect price for that game (they added A LOT more since then too) and it's included in GamePass with lot of other awesome different games.
I played the beta when I was able to play it. I did have fun with it. It doesn't have all of what I want it to but it's not the worst thing I've ever played either. My problem with it is it's not well built. It crashes all the time. I can barely play it because 2/3 of my playtime is loading back in
Some of the crashes were so bad. I had to unplug my Xbox in order to get it to work again

the game isnt half bad if you give it a chance but then again. I was against it entirely since gameplay was shown. Hated it infact. Then i decided to give it a chance and it surprised me, and some of my friends that i talked bad about it to. They also were surprised by it and we now cant get away from it.

The way the steering works needs to be changed. It doesn't feel or look even remotely how It should.
It is nice to see a very well respected SOT streamer liking the game (and admitting it). You will probably catch a ton of flak over it, so I commend you. Good job! I LOVE this game. It is exactly as advertised. Its a pirate game where you are the ship and you are trying to become the next Kingpin of the seas... There was NO mention of Land combat so I have NO idea where they got that information. Its a good game, the price for the game is very steep granted but its worth it.
Btw, you Can just shoot the wildlife with a Cannon to collect Food😊

This game looks mostly like World of Warships with a pirate reskin and UI, so the exact opposite of “tools not rules”. Not my cup of tea.
Its not Black flag its not what people think its suppose to be, its an ARPG, your character is the ship. Its Diablo but with ships. I do wish they had more loot and or legendary items that drop from bosses and more builds perhaps. started playing 3 days ago, and i personally cant stop playing. So the audience who is currently reviewing it are skyrim, black flag type of reviewers, they are the wrong audience, this talks more to the arpg target audience. Should they add more items and or rare items to drop, Yes, so they should move away from trying to please the wrong audience but focus on the arpg audience, like Poe, last epoch, and diablo players, since that is what this game is in my opinion. Think it has lots of more potential if it goes down that route.

Ultimately even the staunchest critics are just heartbroken about what should have been. Ubisoft has the money, time and skill to create the ultimate pirate game but still chose not to 😢

Actually ... they let you play a free 8-hour free trial now on PC ....
The Character Customization is ... well ... kinda bad ... the beard/hair options are awful... you're given just a "Face view" of what you look like when choosing hairstyles... and body types... The graphics look like it's 5 years old with the main character... hoping playing it with friends is going to ... feel better but ... I am loathe to spend $50 (Yes I found a place that sells it for $10 less...) on something like this...

Heavy SoT player here and I like a lot of Ubi games, not a hater. But I played the open beta and I hate this game. Some might like it, cool. I don't wish anything bad on Ubi, but coming off the SoT sandbox to this was very unappealing. I won't be getting it.
I guess you could say its beta but I don't know how you can take Assassins Creed Black Flag and make it... worse. Sure you get different characters and ships but the gameplay is awful. Its too fast and jittery and are those TORPEDOES? Are you freakn kidding me? This is almost like a serious version of Battlefield Heroes.

I look at any purchase of games against how long I think I’ll play it. If a game costs $70 and I put 70 hours into it then I’m paying for $1/hour of entertainment. Already cheaper than a movie and it gets cheaper with more time spent in it. I played that and spades in the beta and I knew I’d put more than that into retail so I bought it. I think most of the hate is either from people upset that they can’t buy it so they are trying to justify to themselves that it’s not worth buying or they are upset that they can’t ruin someone else’s time spent in game at random with pvp being opt-in. Go play a different game if you don’t like this. There are plenty of people having fun with it and seeing all of the available things to do in the game and not complaining “bUt I cAn’t uSe A sWoRd”. It wasn’t designed to do that, it never will be. Go to another game if that’s what you want.
The game mechanics behave like a mobile game...Like tilting the wheel a tiny bit just does a fricking anchor turn? like what? Yeah man I love you phuzzybond, your sot content is amazing, However this game aint it.

Buying in to this game is directly supporting a huge company that flopped miserably in the development, announcements. For real stop promoting stuff like this. It could've been good; Ubisoft didn't deliver & 100% didn't deliver the quadruple A game they've been mentioning. It's not even fully a matter of wether you like the game. This is also making a stand at some point to not have major companies rail you and get away with it time&time again. Make them feel it it's okay. You can still buy the game a few months later if you're so down bad for it. But why would we give positive feedback in the form of money to a major company that took 7 years to make this game; Announced it differently 5 times; Lied & then has the guts to also charge 70£/€/$ for it. Like wake up guys forreal. Don't be a sheep.

Sadly, for me, this is the most boring, arcade-mobile mix they could probably dream up. I played the beta but was so bored I quit after 4 hours (out of 6). It's a damn shame that it's 2024 and SoT is still the best pirate game on the market.

Love this game just hit kingpin yesterday 😊. This is game is more like Sid miers pirates mixed with a pinch of black flag but online and I love it.
Love your videos Phuzzy, but this is just a blatant huge ad for a game that is certainly not good.
this game is absolutely not my cup of tea.
Did not age well, maybe in 4 more weeks the price is gonna be acceptable. But damn does this game suck.
