What I want is a development company with the balls to develop a historically correct pirate game. Where you have the Dutch naval empire, the British ships, slave trade, almost no women on ships, the whole nine yards.
I'm 32 years old, been gaming since I was young. For those of you that remember going into stores to buy games, this is the sad thing for me. There was a time when you saw company names on the box like Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda and that meant something. It meant you was buying a quality game; just having company names like that meant that you didn't need to see an old 480p IGN review, or read up on a game through official Xbox/ PlayStation magazine. That's the real shame for me on how companies had the reputations they did; and yet completely soil that to modern day gaming :(
Ah man, some of the most fun of had gaming was when I used to go into a game shop with absolutely no idea what I was looking for, spending 10 to 15 minutes picking up games with cool names, staring at the pictures on the back then fucking off to play these random games. No trailers, no review sites, just fun. Anything that had a 12 to 18 rating and a picture of explosions on the back got bought. I came away with all sorts that I probably wouldn’t have touched if I saw trailers. Good times. Sometimes I’ll run up to the second hand shop to find something for an old gen console, you’d be suprised how much random shit exists that nobodies ever heard off, it’s all better than what comes out nowadays.
@hydra8612 completely agree mate! The times of company names and box art alone being enough to sell you a game! Luckily that isnt the sales tactic anymore, which is good for us since we're comparing it to modern day games. I do still find joy in alot of modern games, but to me if we're talking in terms of era, like console generations, Xbox 360 and PS3. Sooooo many smash hits and randomness that all seemed to be their own thing. Put it this way, I still play games from a decade or two ago more than anything modern. There's still gems out there, just seems we had a whole treasure chest back in the day!
I bet like half the gamers today can't even imagine the good old days when today's most hated companies were liked and making good games. That Blizzard or Bioware logos were marks of quality and instant hits. And gaming magazines people were trustworthy hobbysts who knew and liked games. I think that is what we wanted in the 90s, but going mainstream and online really destroyed games.
@Sicarius888 couldn't agree more! Actually sad that young gamers will never no the kind of milestones that games like Halo/ Crysis/ Mass Effect laid out. A time when you paid a single/ fair price for a game, good and long story, fun multilayer, single player dlc and overall, plenty of replayabality. I think that's where the disconnect is between us and the developers. Now we pay more than double the money for the complete edition, only to then get half a product. Young kids will enjoy their Minecraft, Roblocks, Fortnite, PUBG ect. And I'm OK with that. But devs have to understand that their main target market for games like this; are people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. So because we had that point in time, we aren't gonna settle for anything less, or we'll just play old games. Last thing I'll say, last game I pre-ordered, was AC Unity, let that sink in..
In my time we rented a game for the weekend to see if it was any good. Mario Bros 3 blew my mind. EA sports and Konami were the companies I searched for when looking for a game in the late 90's. Man how gaming has changed. Not for the good I know that.

Play AC rogue if you haven't already, it's the sequel l to AC 4, has exactly the same game play , but it's set back in North America like AC 3 instead of the Caribbean.
For me in AC4 Black Flag the boats wer slow and cumbersome they had weight and were not easy to manoeuvre, the cannons took time to reload, you had to fight the current of the water and the wind all of this was brilliant as it added so much to the realism. All of that is gone in S&B and the boats they move on a sixpence and instead of feeling like being in command of a ship you feel like you're playing with a toy boat in the bath. TLDR It's trash
Games are reminding me of school projects. Logically you believe when a game or project is late it’s supposed to be more polished since they had more time But it’s always the opposite
So, a game about a certain order of assassins, one of them was a pirate at some point, another one was during the time of ancient Greece and has pirates in it. Those games were not about just pirating, you could if you wished to do so however. Those games had better sailing, ship fighting, and development then a game dedicated to piracy. From the same company. It's as if the grandson of some board member got to much freedom during his internship for a highschool project.
A bit like Atari's crash in the 80s, I think that the end of that era would leave a bitter sweet feeling. Maybe not right away, but certainly in hindsight.
Ive spent time with over 20 white women and not a single one knows how to cook, yet they are the "caretakers" for kids and automatically win custody but can't make healthy food for the kid.
Notice too that if you have 4 canons, it means you have 8 shots. Not a broadside where they all fire at once. No, 8 shots of rapid fire chaingun black powder canons. Which, magically all converge on your reticle rather than firing in an arcing field like they did in black flag. More canons in this game just means a larger "magazine" for your machine gun before you have to reload.
No family to rescue. No town attacks by crew. No treasure map getting from pirate and searching it. No prison time when you get caught. Sid Meyers Pirates is still the King.
This is straight up misinformation. You do get to attack towns or monuments. And you do find treasure maps. Tell me you haven’t played this game without telling me you haven’t played this game.

So not only does it seem like AC4 did the pirate-specific stuff better, but it also looks like there are no stealth sections? Is there even any hunting, either on land or on the water? I'm guessing Sweet Baby Inc. had a hand in this "masterpiece" too. Couldn't have been focused on game quality here, must've been concerned with other things.
I watched a friend stream this live, as soon as I saw you couldn't land anywhere, actually get in and out, and have to do the magic saw from the sea, I refused to believe this was an anticipated 2024 game. That's like RTS gameplay from 15-20 years ago.
it's crazy to think this is the most half assed, content absent, yet polished games ever at launch. It looks great, I had no problems running it at 1440 with a mid tier pc, and the sailing is pretty great... But that's it... Having become obsessed by Helldivers 2 recently, it’s embarrassing the absolute shit that the bigger companies like Rocksteady and Ubisoft have been pumping out. This… this was just do Black Flag as a standalone story driven IP. But no, instead it had to be just the ship combat from Black Flag without anything else. One of the best games ever made. Always loved the end game screen that would tell you your score like it's a historical record, how I was haunted by not rescuing my family and died from the clap after spending my fortune on French girls.
Even in the tutorial the wailing of a particular individual made me think that we were going to have this screaming the whole game. Nope, cant stand it. Not my game. Goodbye Skull And Bones purely based on that one factor, ruined it for me. As combat is a major aspect, what were they thinking? bloody awful.
They had the blueprint from Black Flag and did not follow it. They had a basis for a multiplayer pirate game, from Sea of thieves and they did not follow it. They saw comments online about people not liking online only/live service games and did not follow them. If this is their idea of trolling, then it is the most expensive trolling in history. If this is their idea of making a modern AAA game, then I suggest they close their company and donate the money to help indie studios. That way they will be remembered for thei good deed, and empower small studios to make the games we want....
So, Ubisoft is acting like they've never made a pirate game before. They literally had a blueprint for how to make a pirate game: make Black Flag again, but without the assassins and with more pirate-related activities, using Black Flag as your base to start developing the game.
A reskin of AC Valhalla would have been a pirate game. You have a family/crew conquering a new land. You have base, settlement building. You have raiding locations for loot. Scrap the whole map and give us ocean and a boat. Done, easy 8/10 game.
Ubisoft CEO said we should get used to not owning games, this is the beginning of it. If you really do want the game forever, or at least until the servers stop, you will have to pay the insane price, 60 euro or 80 for premium edition, changes depending on country. But if you just get Ubisoft+ for a month, you can finish this entire game for just 18 euro.
pretty much a universal rule found across multiple historical accounts from pirates was no women on the boat, because it would cause in fighting amongst the crew, and was bad luck. the penalty was death, for any man fount to have brought the woman onto the deck. Some even had rules against having woman or boys on the ship, and some even had to specify that if you were caught disguising a woman on the ship, the penalty would be death.
While there's room for authentically historical games, this is honestly the smallest issue with the game. If someone wants to develop a game set in a world where half of the pirates are women, that's fine. Shit, there's pirate games with ghosts and mermen. You can have your ships control like jet skis with torpedoes if you want. Just make it fun, y'know?
@@3Dant The problem is that, including women actually decreases player immersiveness for people who are pirate enthusiasts... A pirate game, would naturally attract pirate enthusiasts, but how many would be able to be immersed in the game seeing all the historical inaccuracies? So Ubisoft just shot themselves in the foot, the people who WOULD be long term players - pirate enthusiasts, are now going to be less likely to be invested in this game long term. The reason Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft got famous, was because of how historically accurate the vibe and maps were in the games. You could walk around Syndicate and Unity and still feel like you were part of that world. Games like "Hell Let Loose" attract people who like to see historical accuracy- and that game as a loyal multiplayer fanbase now. In Skull and Bones, not only is it acting like a Call of Duty politically correct game, but you can't even board ships either, a feature that was in Assassin's Creed 4. The historical inaccuracy is just a cherry on top for how terrible this game is though. It's really a 20 year old game with a paint job.

@@BarneyGoogl It used to refer to budget, now it refers to scope and ambition. This game has neither.

Timothy Clanceman: Cursed Diversity 2: Pirates and Stuff
Hahahahaha
For The Fifth Time
arrrrrrgh
Genius! 😂😂 perfect summary of current Ubisoft
AAA just means shit to me, AAAA means I just stepped in it and tracked it into the carpet.
lmfao xD
For real, its like a warning label for me for years by now.

Ubisoft: is that a challenge?
It’s unbelievable that they released this and all you is sail on a ship shooting other ships. It’s mindblowing.
Does it actually have wind and sail mechanics?
Considering the gov of Singapore was involved in this with heavy money, Ubisoft was basically forced to release it, in whatever state wouldn't actually matter, they had to get this game out, no matter what, otherwise the Singapore folks would have lawsuited Ubi's arses off to the next moon.

For me in AC4 Black Flag the boats wer slow and cumbersome they had weight and were not easy to manoeuvre, the cannons took time to reload, you had to fight the current of the water and the wind all of this was brilliant as it added so much to the realism. They had the blueprint from Black Flag and did not follow it. They had a basis for a multiplayer pirate game, from Sea of thieves and they did not follow it. They saw comments online about people not liking online only/live service games and did not follow them. That way they will be remembered for thei good deed, and empower small studios to make the games we want....
I played the alpha, granted it was the alpha but it was shit, real shit. Mind numbing shit. Would avoid like the plague.
Haven't played a Ubisoft game since the first Wildlands and you know, I likely never will again... And I'm just fine with that.
Joke's on them, I am already quite used to not owning any Ubisoft games and I don't feel like I am missing out.
Wow! The character creation screen is depicting *you*, right after you give Ubi your money. I love that realism!!
wow that flashbang every time you open the map is great design.
pretty much a universal rule found across multiple historical accounts from pirates was no women on the boat, because it would cause in fighting amongst the crew, and was bad luck. the penalty was death, for any man fount to have brought the woman onto the deck. Some even had rules against having woman or boys on the ship, and some even had to specify that if you were caught disguising a woman on the ship, the penalty would be death.
Women should have been permitted aboard! That's absurd! They could have been in charge of making sandwiches.
