This whole playlist of fundamentals and concepts is an absolutely wonderful study. After watching the half guard bottom video where you said the major ideas were "fighting for grips, stay on your side, don't let them get grab your head, don't let them get an underhook" I got to see the reverse in this video and how a half guard top player would use those things against the bottom player. I'm watching each of these videos multiple times. As a videographer I also appreciate the huge amount of work you put into them. Finding this channel has me feeling like a kid on Christmas morning haha
I’m currently in Japan taking BJJ lessons and the language barrier is tough. I watch your videos to help bridge the gap. Thank you from a new white belt. 🙏🏽
Theo details you add are wonderful. A detail I learned in a private lesson was putting your middle finger into the opposite armpit, pulling them in tight and important of their back being on the matte. To see video add little things like that is so cool. Ty for the vids.
Great content! Covered a few of these variations in my class today. Love the level of detail that you have gone into with both gi and no gi in the same video.
Not only is this video great for showing different ways to pass a half guard, but it's also great for half guard players to learn the most common & efficiently used methods people will try to pass the half guard. Thus helping us half guard players to stay one step ahead.
Hey bro, I'm telling you, your detailed way to explain and this high quality video in slow mo are unbelievable. I'm a John danaher fan and I've got a bunch of his tutorial. I'm looking forward for one of yours. Great content
Wow. This is one of the juiciest, most informative and yet compact instructionals I have seen on HG. So many key positions in 7 minutes. This channel is pure gold. The only negative point is that I haven't discovered it sooner. Thank you Jordan.
Half guard with the knee shield is something I need to learn to deal with in No gi. Would love some more minutes on that, but I'll keep watching what you put in this video. Love your work guys. Joel
So let's put a smile on that faces:). Really, really great content on this channel, can't wait for next vid. Superb idea to show techniques for gi and no-gi. Thanks for sharing Jordan and bless you both.
I came to check this video, I ended up subscribe and watched all videos in the channel . Great great format!! short and sweet. I will love to see Crucifix and Back takes ...thanks a lot to share the knowledge !! keep it up!!
I appreciate it!! Thank you so much 🙏 Back takes and crucifix are my favorite! Will definitely do a video on them in the future. Love your display picture by the way!
Man sooo many goodies in this video!😊😊 I think im goin to start putting myself in my partner's half guard when they have a really annoying open guard especially nogi. Its so much easier to pass half vs DLR, Reverse DLR, Inverted stuff, etc, etc, ETC (WILLY WONKA VOICE)
As a fresh white belt, I got absolutely stumped yesterday with that... I'm glad to see I had the right ideas but was missing some key details to make it work! Thanks, Jordan! Hopefully, I'll be able to get a few passes now!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu I really appreciate your work man. It’s mind opening. Your moves is just clear and precise. One of the best videos one can watch and learn and I am Brazilian 😆 I already subscribed.
the more i watch your videos the more i realize how you break things down into such simple steps and always have safety involved . i actually my kids watching these now
The way you show the details and comment them makes It so much more immersable and also helps realizing what could I do differently on the mat. The rolling back attack is the shiniest and awesome example which I love. I started being a fan long before that, but now I have to speak out. Thank you and your wife - she's a true bless to all of us, actually!
I nailed the knee sliding to the other side on a black belt today (I’m a white belt)! He killed me afterwards, but he was as surprised as I was when I first got it. He’d never seen it before.
Thank you for these videos. I do a lot of this but I’m missing details (lots of details). I’ve seen a few videos so far and these are helping fill in the gaps!! Are you on social media??
Holy Chripes. Hip Turn Pass out of half guard. I get stuck in half guard all the time (long legs and tall so I can usually get past a traditional guard immediately but then get stuck in half guard). Genius! Gonna be using that one!!!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu tried it yesterday. Got swept like the peanut shells in a Western saloon. Didn’t get my hips out far enough so my base was crap. LOL
As a beginner I love all your videos . How you break everything down . The attention to detail really helps. I can’t wait for more and thank you so much .
Awesome as usual. I’d LOVE to see this: An instructional on bottom escapes followed by a rolling session where you start in those positions and demonstrate live how the techniques work. Plenty of people show how to escape those positions, but almost nobody has videos of them actually using the escapes. Pretty please 😚
I have had success using the lockdown as a calf strangle submission on lower belts. I did it to a black belt recently and (I believe) he posted up with both arms in a push-up position, arched and straightened his leg - basically submitting me with my own lock. Surprise! I tried this on some partners the other day and it seemed effective. Any comments on this?
I'm not a huge fan of lockdown because I find it not super hard for higher belts to counter it, and it's risky on the knees to those that can't counter it. One of my friends blew out his ACL from being in someone's lock down 😬
This quickly became my favorite BJJ channel- y’all exemplify purposeful training & partner care. Really appreciate the easy to draw on maxims and overall vibe! 👊
Just started training jiujitsu 3 weeks ago. You both are incredible at simplifying concepts so that even beginners like me can quickly learn and improve. Because of your videos I can consistently surprise those I train with ;]]. Thank you both for putting in all the effort to create content that truly helps the jiujitsu community
Very kind of you Jordan! We really appreciate the positive feed back, as much as you appreciate the content I'm sure 🙏😊 Makes me very happy to hear we're helping you improve! BJJ is just the best, and I'm glad you started training. Great name btw! 💪💪
My buddy just started jiujitsu this Monday and I'm going to show him these videos. The rolling plus you explaining what is happening AND WHY is so much better for me than watching a youtube tutorial that is boring and dry and just goes step by step starting from the position. I always felt like OK that's cool, but how the HELL do I get them to this position?!? You and your wife show the whole movement getting to the position and then executing the technique and I really appreciate it. The music is really nice as well.
This video is absolutely incredible. It is packed with so many good tips and the level of teaching is unlike anything I’ve seen. The Slow mo helps so much. I’m a white belt who’s inspired enough to want to come train with you at your gym. I’ve watched this about a dozen times and will probably watch a dozen more today alone. Thank you Jordan!
You didn’t address the deep half at all coach. Have you ever gone w a serious deep 1/2 guard player? Once I get to 3/4 MT is the most dangerous time. I’m convinced the best way to pass 1/2 guard is the nearside underhook method.
I have shown this video to a lot of people from our gym. They all have liked the content so far. Please keep it up. If you are in SLC Utah, come to Unified BJJ. Best wishes.
Your videos are the best! Amazing details and concepts. I learned some of these techniques a while back but the way you break them down makes it very understandable and it’s easy to pick up key details that I may have been missing or get lazy at from time to time that can really make or break an effective technique. Also there were some new ones I haven’t even seen or knew that was a possible connection like the rolling back take from back step or back step knee bar, so cool!! As always keep up the great work! 🤙🏽
Loved this, especially since it wad something recently gone over in class. This is great review, especially with that back take roll I didn’t understand the first several times my instructor showed me

Half guard passing was the first thing in BJJ that I got any proficiency in, it's crazy how many people are more accepting of the initial position versus how hard they fight a traditional guard pass (maybe because it doesn't score points and they feel safer with that single hook?). Trying that rolling back take soon that is incredible!

No problem man! Rolling back attacks are 🔥
Lol that rolling back take is fun but if you mess it up you just basically give your back in spectacular fashion.
Only if you have your knee between their legs, which in that case you shouldn't go for it. Otherwise messing it up results in a scramble worst case.
Bottom half is my best position. Thanks for showing me the other side of the coin.
Happy to help 👊
Study time again. Lock down just irritates me because it kinda hurts.
