    Another fantastic video. Thanks Marcos.
I have a strange question. I'm a white belt and a pretty strong guy, but I always think about the fact that I am going to eventually fight someone stronger than me, so in my mind, I'm always looking for ways to do things with as little power as possible. A lot of times, I get to roll with other white belts who are nervous of my size and strength, and go super rigid and use loads of strength.
My way of dealing with this is to go even more gentle with them and tell them to relax and breathe and follow whatever was taught in class and they will succeed, even if they go slow and gentle.
In my mind, I remember how I used to get nervous when I am intimidated especially when I was newer.
And most of the time, it works. But sometimes, I get to roll with someone and it's just like playing with a rock. There aren't very many people around who can match my strength if I want to turn it up, but I don't want to do that.
On one hand, I want to conserve energy, but I also want to convey to the other person that especially when drilling and doing practice rolls with unmatched skill levels, it is best to focus on technique.
Not only that, but if I were to need bjj for a serious fight scenario, I hope I would have the skill to let the person feel controlled without escalating the intensity of the situation.
My coach has some techniques that he has shared, but I still always feel like I'm using my strength against my opponent's strength.
Do you have any tips for this, especially for bigger guys who aren't so fast and flexible? I'm thinking of methods of distraction and misdirection, which I already use, but I don't have much organization on how I use those ideas.
Like if I want the arm, I'll attack the neck. Then the arm comes up, but I don't have a specific plan for a specific way to use that... It's usually just mucking about until the other person does something dumb and gives me the elbow, but then the elbow slips because I haven't used any real purpose and then it goes right back to rigid and we start over.
The most common positions are elbows tucked, grabbing own lapel or grabbing their own hands.
How do I avoid using power against power for these common positions? Or use power in highly advantaged ways so I can remain smooth and controlled, especially if I'm actively trying to not place too much pressure on a smaller opponent?
