You are almost the only reactor who has ever noticed that little bass lick Geoff does after "add a little spice", which is my favorite part. Well done!
Very few ever hear it. If you listen to VoicePlay with your eyes shut, sometimes you hear more than you do while you're enjoying watching their theatrics.
You're one of the only reactors to this song that recognized the bass run after "to add a little spice". Subscribed! Also, check out more VoicePlay. They have quickly replaced Pentatonix as my favorite A Capella group.
I have to agree. I love Pentatonix and Home Free, but these guys are just…wow. Amazing arrangements, great acting, killer voices, and the beatbox is superb, and then you add Geoff’s vocal shock value… wow.

I LITERALLY came down here to comment that I've been searching for a reaction video where someone notices that bass run from Geoff!! Thank you!!! Subscribing just because he noticed that
I just found your reaction to this... and I think it's funny that when you recorded this, they "blew you away" and you had absolutely NO idea who they were... and yet two years later you would watch them do "In The Hall Of the Mountain King" and at that time ( which is just within the last few weeks, ( November 2022, "now" time) ) you would know "exactly" who everybody was and you would have heard many, many of their performances, but they "still" blew you away... so much so that you had to "walk off"... you could not possibly have known that would happen when you saw them for the first time... which is apparently "this" time. It's a fascinating testimony to how truly great these guys are, and it's also an interesting statement about how the internet is "timeless". I only discovered your channel a few months ago, and I've watched dozens of videos of your reactions to Voiceplay, and others, but I had never seen this one, and this is where it "started". The internet truly does defy the laws of time, and Voiceplay, is truly "timeless". Glad I found this... and glad you're still around enjoying their music years later.... ~Dan
HOW did I miss this reaction?? I should’ve gone looking-Oogie Boogie seems to be the gateway drug for a lot of people, and I should’ve known your reaction would be awesome. And I’m glad you noticed the acting. One of the touches that I just love is the way he moves when he hits those high notes-that’s exactly the way a cartoon character would move hitting high notes. Such a nice touch!
VoicePlay competed on the Sing Off the same season that Home Free won it. They're good too. I would suggest checking out "Queen in 5 Minutes", "Warriors", "I Will Survive" and "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes". Geoff Castalucci arranged the cover of "Elvira" that Home Free did with the Oak Ridge Boys.
One of the great things about your reactions is that you clearly know music, at a level above the average listener; you pick up on things that most people don't (like that moment where they do the counter-beat harmonies behind Geoff, and that Geoff goes through all of his five octaves at the end.) It's always great to find reactors who bring little extra touches like that, and what persuaded me to subscribe to you. :)
Jesus man you are an amazing reactor, i dont always like reactors cause they just watch the video and thats it, but man you are great at this, you know how to analyze and talk about it, love it. Subscribed
As you should know by now, Geoff is an ALIEN; no human can sing that way!! This song got me hooked into VoicePlay, and this was your first reaction to them. I really love your reaction, 'who are these guys'. Also, great job at picking up little details! Keep up the great work!!
That final run goes from a high of B4 down to a low of E1, which is a pretty incredible stretch. And Geoff can go higher and lower than those notes in his full range: From an A5 down to a C#0!! Also (and I'll defer to actual voice experts here), I believe his B4 here is not fully head voice, but he's pulling some of the chest thickness up there, yet without sounding strained or choked. So, maybe a mixed B4? Then on the final note, that E1 does sound like a subharmonic note. Subharmonics, where a bass singer can achieve a lower tone than he could otherwise do with full chest voice, is done by relaxing the throat, singing (in this case) an E2 with his vocal folds, but bringing in the false folds above them in a kind of two-tone throat-singing harmony, where the two notes combine to sound like an E1. Which is not to say he's not producing an actual E1, or is somehow 'cheating'. He's just singing the E1 in a way that's a bit easier than using full chest voice, by utilizing the false or ventricular folds not normally used for phonation. And in Geoff's case, he has sung lower than E1 in full chest (I forget how low he can go with that method), but full chest tends to sound a lot more 'airy' or 'breathy' at that level, in comparison to the more resonance that subharmonics can yield.
This is the one that got me hooked with VoicePlay! I love how they get into character! That sound around 3:25 was explained by Geoff as "Layne's production". Geoff sang it twice, one running up and the other down. Then Layne stacked them and did his magic, making it sound lower than it really was. True or false? Who knows! But the very last note is real, I heard him do it in a live video! Great reaction!
You commented more than once on their theatrical abilities, and I'm surprised none of the other commenters thought to mention that VoicePlay happens to be based out of the Orlando area and a few of their members have worked in shows at the theme parks down there in the past.
I had the same reaction watching this song....the bass add lib the Geoff did, was awesome and not many people catch it let alone bring it up. These guys are amazing.
Awesome react video. You're so animated. I love that you're catching the subtleties that the average listener wouldn't. You earned yourself a sub here.
you are the first person in probably over a dozen of these reaction videos that caught the neck thing in the dark! I was beginning to wonder if it was just me lol. but as others said, i like how you picked up on a lot of subtler things. and your reactions were so animated and awesome. this was great :D
Welcome to the rabbit hole of Voiceplay LOL Honestly, they are great and super talented, but they can't beat Home Free in my book. I don't know all their names, but Earl, the bearded high tenor, just left. They were competing in the same season of the Sing-Off as Home Free, but with a front girl. You should check out I'm a Survivor that Home Free and Voiceplay did a video of, something they prepared for the Sing-Off, but never got to do for the show. One of my personal Voiceplay favourites, other than this, is The Phantom of the Opera, where another now former member, Tony, sings the male lead. Geoff was the one the that arranged Elvira for Home Free (that they do with the Oak Ridge Boys, such a fun song, btw).
I loved that you didn't just burn through the song to get it done. You actually took the time to analyze and appreciate what was going into it. Earned you a new Sub.
You are the first reactor I have heard mention the 5 octave drop at the end. I love how Geoff stepped it down like he did. Apparently that jazzy part you mention is called Syncopation. I believe that is how I have heard it referred to in the past.
Great reaction. You're one of the few that noticed the little bass thing Geoff slipped in there. You should definitely react to more Voiceplay! They are my favorite Acapella group! I recommend "Warriors," ""Trapped/Billie Eilish," "Aca top 10 Disney Villains," "Daddy Sang Bass," and "Queen in 5 Minutes" for starters. Voiceplay is awesome!
I think Geoff has said he considers himself a baritone rather than bass. Trying to hit the low notes in true voice is very straining, sometimes painful, which is why he went subharmonic, especially with that last note (E1).
Voiceplay is my second favorite to Home free. Just like you did a series of Home free, you need to do the same for Voiceplay. You'll be in for a surprise! So many favorites! Do Voiceplay Tennessee Whiskey, Queens in 5 min, Moana melody, their heros and villans songs, something just like this. 😅
Wow youre one of the only reactors that noticed that little bass riff that Geoff made while the beatboxer was saying "to add a little spice"! Great reaction and analysis man! And i recommend you react to more of their songs as I personally think they are on par if not even better than HomeFree
Good morning to my favorite reaction guy!! Voice Play is definitely a good group. They have a very unique blend of voices. Check out their Queen in Five Minutes. I also like their version of Daddy Sang Bass. They are not my ‘go to’ a cappella group, but you might just imagine what group that is!!! 😉 I can still appreciate their talent! Have a blessed day!!!
You HAVE to listen to more Voiceplay! My favorites from them are Daddy Sang Bass, I Can't Help Falling In Love With You, and their ACA Top 10 |Hits of 2019|. The last one really shows off all of their voices individually.
Check out the bass competitions between Geoff, Tim, and Avi. They're great and they may add a couple other bassists as well. Love you Qofy, have a great week!
I don’t know who I like more - Voiceplay or Home Free. Every one of their members have crazy big ranges, they all can do multiple things like beat boxing and different vocal effects. But that stretch at the end with Geoff was a high B (tenor range) all the way down to E1, so 5 and a half octave. And he hits the B full voice, not falsetto.
I have already saved other videos of them on the channel to watch.😉 Oogie Boogie Song is a great option to go down the rabbit hole, it's a shame that some reactors don't realize what a gem this cover is, both in terms of performances and vocal techniques.
Have you heard of Tomi P, Clap It Up Dan, Tim Storms, JD Sumner, Glenn Miller? These people have much larger ranges and more powerful basses. ( Still love those 3 tho
@@lurecyyy before these 3 the only bass singers I heard were older ones like Statler Brothers base and Richard from Oak Ridge Boys and possibly Trace Adkins more recently. Although I think he's a baritone more than a bass.
They are very very good !!!! I admittedly don't listen to them as much as Home Free but they are really fun to listen to as well. I love their version of "i will survive" which is a perfect cover for right now !!
The "guys" are the vocal group Voice Play - similar to Pentatonix and Home Free, they are purely voice group - no musical instruments. It's all done with beat boxing and voice play. BTW, Geoff has a 5+ octave range.
That last note is actually done with a technique using sub-harmonics. He credits a young guy named David Larson for teaching him how to access the sub-harmonic range. It's really very cool.
@@QofyReacts You were quite observant all the way through. Thank you for actually paying attention to all that was going on. You certainly review/react with intelligence compared to so many who don't seem to have a clue but want in on the reactor phenom.
I would like to suggest their cover of Just Sing. It is a collaboration with many artists. I would suggest watching with the captions on if you are able, as it will tell you who everyone is 😊
The section where Tim and Geoff are singing back and forth and "glaring" at each other in friendly rivalry is so very awesome, and closed captions are totally required...
I am finally able to see this!! I have to admit that I haven't really heard VoicePlay sing, so I was reacting to this one with you XD... the only song I have heard from them before is the Zombies vs Hillbillies bit they did with Home Free (there was a female voice back then). I have to admit this is pretty impressive, it really took me back to "The Nightmare before Christmas" (one of my favorite Tim Burton movies). They seem very theatrical, imo, perfect for this one. I wouldn't mind starting to explore more of them with you. Thanks for sharing!
Geoff is equally talentet, as Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust. But I don't comparre them, because they have each a different bass type. Avi's bass is soft as butter. Geoff is deep and wide. and Tim has a growl bass. So it's difficult to compare such difference, but they all have a impressive range, from tenor to deep bass.
So happy you now know VoicePlay. How amazing was Geoff’s 5 octave nosedive?!! Incredible. And the rest of the group are pretty amazing as well (as is what seems to happen with all our favourite acapella groups). Would recommend their cover of a song called Just Sing fro the movie Trolls World Tour. They collaborated with a heck of a lot of other people for this, so I would highly recommend using the captions because they give you a who’s who as the people pop up on the screen. Would also recommend VoicePlay’s Queen in 5 Minutes. And their Moana Medley. And their cover of Phantom of the Opera. And their skit called Road Trip. Have fun!
I would agree with "Warriors" and "Just Sing" but would add suggestions for "Road Trip" (an older one with Tony-a previous group member) for comic relief and also "Queen in 5 minutes." Like Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voctave, Voiceplay is a very solid acapella group to hit the spotlight in the last decade. Voiceplay does tend to lean toward the theatrical end of the spectrum, which you saw in this performance. I believe you would also enjoy their version of "Can't Help Fallin' in Love." Excellent reaction!
A great way to check out all their voices is Moana Medley (my favorite of theirs, this is a very close second), Just Sing (with a bunch of other artists and former members of VP), Boy Band Medley, or Daddy Sang Bass. Geoff is my favorite bass, I just think he can do more within the bass notes than Tim can. Love your reactions! You're one of the few genuine ones out there
Yeah, it's a brilliantly done take on the song!. Geoff has great range & that last G# is soul rattler. EDIT: The last note is actually a E1 (confirmed by Geoff in one of his own videos), but it registered on my note analyzer app as G#.
@Shadow*91 Meh... Glitch happens. My post contained what I know to be erroneous info, so I corrected it. All I know for sure is it happened. As to WHY, there are a number of possibilities, but no way to confirm. We are talking about playing a recording, reproduction through a speaker system to being recaptured through the mic of another device. If I was to guess, I suspect it was likely due to my phone being low on battery power as it shut off maybe 2 mins or so after I posted that.
Loved the reaction! One of my favorite reactions. You should react to boy bands in 5 mins by voiceplay, it shows everyones vocal ability and it sounds fantastic! Btw He can go lower and higher than what he hit on this song, he is my favorite singer/bass ever.
You really have a good ear! You pick up on a lot other reactors miss. All off Voiceplay is worth checking out, but another great one is "Warriors." It's a cover of the Imagine Dragons song and it kicks a$$!
Ok, here’s the scoop. Geoff and Tim are good friends. I do think. Tim’s range is a little bit bigger. Anyway, my point is that Geoff has done several of the arrangements for Home Free. I wonder if Geoff will get his hair cut as well.
Hi, strange that if you love "a cappella" you didn't know VoicePlay Geoff Castellucci ( bass voice ,he says to pronounce his name "Jeff") IS FANTASTIC I'm sure he could play the role of The Jocker in movies, he is my favourite with Tim and Avi ( Home Free and Pentatonix)
The bottom note at the end is an E1 five notes from the bottom of a piano, AND he can go lower. Five octave range for Geoff....in this group he does a lot of the leads as well as the bass.
I'm late to the service Brother Qofy. I'm watching now and will sing an extra Home Free song to make-up for my tardiness. If memory serves Home Free beat this group in the competition they were in.

Believe it or not, in this song Geoff doesn’t hit either end of his range. His range is currently (and still trying to extend it) goes from C#0 to A5
BO to F#5 as of now I believe

Plenty of people have the range... mine is pretty close. Not many can pull it off, though, the way Geoff does! The dude is an anomaly.

The "guys" are the vocal group Voice Play - similar to Pentatonix and Home Free, they are purely voice group - no musical instruments. It's all done with beat boxing and voice play.
BTW, Geoff has a 5+ octave range.
You're the only reactor who caught Geoff's super deep growl!
Its so subtle
That last note is actually done with a technique using sub-harmonics. He credits a young guy named David Larson for teaching him how to access the sub-harmonic range. It's really very cool.
WING_NUT62
Oh wow that’s interesting
@@QofyReacts You were quite observant all the way through. Thank you for actually paying attention to all that was going on. You certainly review/react with intelligence compared to so many who don't seem to have a clue but want in on the reactor phenom.
The best reaction I’ve seen so far! Keep it up 👏👏
I would like to suggest their cover of Just Sing. It is a collaboration with many artists. I would suggest watching with the captions on if you are able, as it will tell you who everyone is 😊
Will do :)
The section where Tim and Geoff are singing back and forth and "glaring" at each other in friendly rivalry is so very awesome, and closed captions are totally required...
YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT GEOFF IN THE HEADLESS HORSE MAN
ITS DONE
I am finally able to see this!! I have to admit that I haven't really heard VoicePlay sing, so I was reacting to this one with you XD... the only song I have heard from them before is the Zombies vs Hillbillies bit they did with Home Free (there was a female voice back then).
I have to admit this is pretty impressive, it really took me back to "The Nightmare before Christmas" (one of my favorite Tim Burton movies). They seem very theatrical, imo, perfect for this one. I wouldn't mind starting to explore more of them with you.
Thanks for sharing!
Hahah we're in the same boat then!
Stay tuned for Zombies vs Hillbillies
Geoff is equally talentet, as Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust.
But I don't comparre them, because they have each a different bass type.
Avi's bass is soft as butter.
Geoff is deep and wide.
and Tim has a growl bass.
So it's difficult to compare such difference, but they all have a impressive range, from tenor to deep bass.
You’re right !!
Thanks! The start of a beautiful relationship ☺️❤️‼️
❤️❤️
This was so fun watching you react to VoicePlay for the first time. Who Are These Guys? lol, Now you know.
Would suggest any Voiceplay song but since your a sucker for harmony check out something just like this and bridge over troubled water
Will check it out 😁
So happy you now know VoicePlay. Have fun!
Will check it out :)
You're one of the few genuine ones out there
Thank you so much Jeff 😁
I will choke them out
You should check out Zombies vs. Hillbillies-Survivor (VoicePlay vs. Home Free) Its from right after both groups were on The Sing Off.
Nice one I will have a look!
Hahahaha I love your reaction whit videos of voice play!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Voice play Is Amazing!!! More Geoff!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
More to come!
"he just showed us his octaves"
PepeLaugh oh no no no this guy lacks critical information
yes of course being that that was my first time seeing them.
You should check out their cover of Daddy Sang Bass just amazing and the Twenty One Pilots mashup as also fantastic
Will do :)
Yeah, it's a brilliantly done take on the song!.
Geoff has great range & that last G# is soul rattler.
EDIT: The last note is actually a E1 (confirmed by Geoff in one of his own videos), but it registered on my note analyzer app as G#.
Damn that’s low
@Shadow*91 Meh... Glitch happens.
My post contained what I know to be erroneous info, so I corrected it.
All I know for sure is it happened.
As to WHY, there are a number of possibilities, but no way to confirm.
We are talking about playing a recording, reproduction through a speaker system to being recaptured through the mic of another device.
If I was to guess, I suspect it was likely due to my phone being low on battery power as it shut off maybe 2 mins or so after I posted that.
i absolutely love your reactions!!! Voice Play are the best!!!
Thank you xD
If you want a general look at their talent you have to look at they're boy band medley
Tilenna Kubo
Will have a look
I was so happy when they did this! one of my favorites!
Its brilliant
Loved the reaction! One of my favorite reactions. You should react to boy bands in 5 mins by voiceplay, it shows everyones vocal ability and it sounds fantastic! Btw He can go lower and higher than what he hit on this song, he is my favorite singer/bass ever.
Thank you man. I will check it out😄
@@QofyReacts appreciate it man, you got a new subscriber and daily viewer, you are already one of my favorite reactors😁
Steven Esparza
Wow 😮 thanks again 🙏🏾
Geoff doesn’t consider himself a bass. He’s a baritone with a very low bass range.
The others are fantastic as well.
One of the best reactions I have seen on this song, a sub for you!
I appreciate it Justin
You really have a good ear! You pick up on a lot other reactors miss. All off Voiceplay is worth checking out, but another great one is "Warriors." It's a cover of the Imagine Dragons song and it kicks a$$!
Thank you
They have been together since '97
Others: people can only sing so low
Me showing them Geoff belting an E1
Others ((0~0)) HOW?!?!
You need to do Voiceplay Just Sing, it has dozens of singers joining them with a nice surprise for you!
Haha I will check it out 😁
Absolutely!
Ok, here’s the scoop. Geoff and Tim are good friends. I do think. Tim’s range is a little bit bigger. Anyway, my point is that Geoff has done several of the arrangements for Home Free. I wonder if Geoff will get his hair cut as well.
His chest range is bigger.
It’s great to see such amazing artists be good friends
Geoff did the arrangement of Elvira that Home Free did with The Oak Ridge Boys.
Geoff said he was not cutting his hair
you should check out geoffs solo of monster mash
You should check out all my reactions for Geoff and Voiceplay
Geoff's lowest note in this song is an E1 the subterranean or of sub-harmonic level
These people are once in a generation types like the Righteous Brothers in the '60s. Enjoy them!
Subscribed! From Geoff Castellucci (the bass singer), i suggest you Big Bad John. Cheers from Italy!
Welcome to my channel. You have a long list of Geoff and Voiceplay videos to go through
@@QofyReacts Poor chap doesn't know you've become a Geoff Evangelist since 😄
Hi, strange that if you love "a cappella" you didn't know VoicePlay Geoff Castellucci ( bass voice ,he says to pronounce his name "Jeff") IS FANTASTIC I'm sure he could play the role of The Jocker in movies, he is my favourite with Tim and Avi ( Home Free and Pentatonix)
He is
one of the best reaction, thumbs up
The bottom note at the end is an E1 five notes from the bottom of a piano, AND he can go lower. Five octave range for Geoff....in this group he does a lot of the leads as well as the bass.
Its crazy
i got here from another reactor, but you are just amazing dear.. i cant wait to see you do HOIST THE COLORS... i am so excited
welcome and please check my VoicePlay playlist I have all the videos there
You should check out the death of a batchelor and warriors sometime!
Will do :-)
yes... 4 octaves.... GREAT reaction!!! ♥
Glad you enjoyed!
Great reaction 😊
VoicePlay hands down my all time favorites!!.. Great reaction!!
Rambo 101
I have it in my playlist now
You have to watch their Just Sing video, you'll spy a familiar face!
Haha I’m curious 👀
I'm late to the service Brother Qofy. I'm watching now and will sing an extra Home Free song to make-up for my tardiness. If memory serves Home Free beat this group in the competition they were in.
Oh yeah? I thought I remembered them haha Homefree over showered the Sing-off hard to remember any other group 😁
