I love it, but you definitely need to take a dive down the Voiceplay rabbit hole, particularly My Mother Told Me and The Dragonborn Comes, as well as, for that matter, dive into Geoff's solo stuff. His renditions of Blackbird, Sixteen Tons, and Over the Misty Mountains Cold are all astonishingly good.
The last note was neither a growl note or a full note it was a subharmonic E1! , And also this video was released 2-3 years ago so he has even gone lower in his chest and subharmonic and recently hit a B0 ( the lowest B in the piano ) in their Halo cover! What a talented dude
I will never get tired of watching someone's reaction the first time they hear Geoff's E1 at the end of this song. It's great everytime. If you're going to react to more Voiceplay, then you'll have a new subscriber with me.
@@bobcieslinski NICE!! do you mind if I ask which one? If you are taking requests I think their cover of Hoist the Colors from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 is absolutely phenomenal.
1:24 "That was a really solid low note" Me: Grabs popcorn and settles in for the REAL low note. I always love seeing other people discover the things I love, but seeing people find VoicePlay for the first time is something special. You get hooked by Geoff's insane low notes but stay for the amazing arrangements, beautiful harmonies, and VP's "unique brand of dumb." The members clearly enjoy doing this and it shows in their work. Addition: I have not seen anyone else mention it, so I will. Santa is being played by Geoff's brother-in-law, but the Santa voice is done by Eli. He's really good at character voices.
One of my favorite things is to see someone react to Voiceplay for the first time. They (you) always are astounded when you hear Geoff's first low note, and I just giggle knowing what's coming. The beatboxer Layne Stein, Geoff and Eli Jacobson (short for Eliezer, pronounced to rhyme with jelly) the bald tenor are still with Voiceplay. The bearded high tenor was a founding member with Geoff and Layne in 1997, they sang under the name 4:2:Five then, left for personal reasons in 2020. The other singer, left in 2021 to join the US Navy and will be singing with them. They have replaced one position with Cesar de la Rosa and feature other artists on a regular basis. To see something non-theatric, try Can't Help Falling in Love (same lineup as this song). Then to see how much fun they are, We Don't Talk About Bruno, new lineup . Geoff Castellucci started a solo channel during the pandemic and has 13 or 14 pieces. He also has dramatic readings on his channel. I would recommend that you start with his House of the Rising Sun. He also has a new one coming in a few days. Thanx for reacting to this and please come back and do more. They have a loyal following who will be here for you every time.
@@bobcieslinski , new subscriber here! Great reaction! I think you would really enjoy reacting to Voiceplay's covers of "Hoist the Colours" (from Pirates of the Caribbean 3) and "My Mother Told Me" (from Vikings)! Also, Geoff has his own personal YT channel where he has done many solo covers. You should check out his covers of "16 Tons," "Monster Mash," "Blackbird," "Far Over the Misty Mountains," and "House of the Rising Sun," to name just a few.
Welcome to the world of VoicePlay where the laws of sound no longer exist. It is a rabbit hole of awesomeness. I haven't found one song of theirs that I didn't like, each one is a masterpiece in itself. They just released their cover of Dream On by Aerosmith last week and it is incredible.
So glad to see you covering VoicePlay. This one was arranged by Layne, the beatbox. These wonderful, full-on theatrical pieces are recorded by each singer individually in their home studios, then rough edited by the arranger. The video is planned and edited by the arranger. Eli (L-EE), the bald tenor, did the lighting. It gets a final vocal edit by Ed Boyer. When the pandemic hit they doubled down on their youtube/patreon/ theatrical productions and they just keep getting better. Do check out their latest - a cover of Aerosmith's Dream On - it's stunning. You might want to watch Warriors first - when planning Dream On they saw Warriors as the prequel. (I've loved them from the first song I heard, but Warriors tipped me into obsessive fandom.) Hoist the Colors, Halo, Dragonborn - all stunners. The guy with the beard is Earl - he left for personal reasons in early/mid 2020. J. None (black leather jacket over skeleton shirt) left to join the Marines in early 2021. So you'll see a lot of faces as they bring in others.... don't worry, you'll sort it out in the end and we'll all jump in with a who's-who. Their ability to feature new voices and make it sound like they've been singing together for years is just mind-blowing.
Wanna hear the world record holder of lowest singing voice? check out Tim Storms Acapella legend its a shame most people dont know / remember him i think his lowest note is (B-1/Bb-1) or around 15Hz (remember most people cant hear below 20Hz) i think he do F1 (one of Geoffs most common lows) in chest voice people are so impressed with Geoff and dont know Tim is making me a little sad Dont get me wrong Geoff is good with his 7 octaves but Tim is slightly better with his 10 octaves you need to add a second keyboard starting at the lowest note to measure him :S
They don't technically lip-sync. They actually sing along with their prerecorded voices during filming and don't use the audio. They think it looks more "live" than lip-syncing. ... Guy
And I’ve heard a rumor for some of the more upscale patrons, as I am a mere beginner here, that sometimes some of them him make up new lyrics and that usually results in yet another take. My money’s is on Layne. I can just see him in my mind creating all kinds of crazy lyrics just to drive Geoff and the others crazy.
In Misty Mountains he shows how you can change the tone of a note, without changing the note itself. His low note(s) throughout the song are F1, and they are all F1 despite sounding very different.
Oh, hello there. You've stumbled down the Voiceplay rabbit hole. Welcome. There is no escape but no need to be afraid, it's a fantastic place full of amazing sounds and sights that keep getting better and better. Do have a look around -- there's plenty to delight the senses, such as Hoist the Colors, The Dragonborn Comes, Halo Theme (watch all the way through to see tribute at end), and so many, many more. Enjoy!
The line-up here has changed over the last year as two members left. The black singer, J.None left to join the navy, and Earl, with the beard also left for reasons of his own. Bald Eli (said like ellie) is still with the group as of course are Geoff and Layne, the vocal percussion, as they are the bones of the group, percussion and bass. So more recent videos won't be quite the same, in terms of members but they are still growing and improving with every video. They are extremely versatile and Geoff has his own channel of low bass covers which are brilliant. He's been working on his bass range for years and uses subharmonics, not growl. The other thing about VoicePlay - you can always hear the lyrics, something you can't always say of singers today.
@@pjschmid2251 No clue as to why he left, but I do know he had a major health scare that triggered their Queen in five minutes medley. I checked out his Facebook page to see if I can get a clue as to what’s going on and he is listed as an employee of Disney. But something must’ve happened because he does not list being a prior member of VoicePlay on his page. I tried to be respectful of his wishes, and of theirs as they’ve been really clear that it’s a personal thing, but it makes me so sad that after 23 years it all just stopped.
Welcome to 'the theater nerds' of a cappella. They definitely will record videos with costumes and sets, but not all of their videos are quite as elaborate as this. I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions, but I'll start off with "Little Mermaid Medley", "Moana Medley," "Wicked Medley", "Queen in Five Minutes", "Boy Bands in Five Minutes", and "Hoist the Colours". That last one takes the snippet of a song that was heard in the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie and transforms it into an epic sea shanty sung by a group of scarily deranged pirates, LOL. Most of their arrangements are done by either Layne Stein, the beatboxer, or Geoff. For simpler, less theatrical videos there is "True Colors", "Man in the Mirror", "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Tennessee Whiskey". Geoff also started doing solo work during the pandemic. If you want to check out great bassiness, his "16 Tons" is awesome. His solo works aren't a cappella, as they have some instrumental accompaniment, but they usually figure 4 or 5 Geoffs singing together, helping to showcase his incredibly wide range. Plus he did some videos talking about how he has developed his lower notes and answering question on various techniques, etc. Yeah, it's all prerecorded, the lights are an LED inside a plastic mouth-guard type insert. With the elaborate things they are doing with the set and lights, with usually only one camera etc., you can understand why they just lip sync when they do these videos, it takes them hours to do this, with going back to get different shots and angles. But if you search, you will find that they have performed Oogie Boogie's Song live. The last note Geoff hits is a subharmonic E1, here's a small clip of him doing it: ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxkwWSmPep4QUJxoFdb0FVjBF2IGUrnceF
If you want another kind of stripped down song by them, no beatboxing just five voices, I suggest Cant help falling in love. One of their most underrated songs.
Thanks for thr great info and suggestions Patricia. I figured they weren’t actually singing in that part. That it was pre recorded and they were singing but then in editing they synced it all up.
Definitely check out other Voiceplay (Carry On Wayward Son, Elenore Rigby, Queen in 5 Minutes) and Geoff's solo channel (Blackbird, 16 Tons, House of the Rising Sun) are favorites
It's Voiceplay and they recently released their version of Dream On by Aerosmith. You might also want to look at Geoff's solo work. He recently released his cover of Ain't N Sunshine, by Bill Withers
Excellent reaction! I see that you react to Home Free and Pentatonix quite a bit. Well now that you found Voiceplay , buckle your seatbelt! You have a lot to catch up on and you will have so much fun doing it! They are by far the best of the top three a cappella groups, in my humble opinion. You have a new subscriber in me and I hope you continue down the VoicePlay rabbit hole. And do check out Geoff Castellucci‘s channel, you will be blown away!
Do react to more VoicePlay they are the best in my opinion. They are so talented and fun. Geoff has a five octave range and uses most of it in a lot of their songs. It's just so much fun watching them.
Geoff's one of the "holy trinity" of acapella basses: Geoff, Tim Foust of HomeFree, and Avi Kaplan, formerly of Pentatonix. I see you're familiar with all of them. Geoff does some amazing "solo" stuff, where he multi-tracks himself and does amazing harmony - with himself! His cover of 16 Tons is probably his most popular, and I think his cover of Blackbird is an increadible display of his range. Also, Voiceplay is well known for their showmanship in many regards, but their Wicked Medley is outstanding if you like musicals. The Dragonborn Comes if you're into Skyrim at all, and it's an amazing display of both arangement and vocal talent. They have a lot of great content. Someone with your music background will apreciate it more than most.
Thanks Blair for the great info and yes they do seem like the holy trinity and it’s well deserved. My gosh those guys have amazing voices. I’ll those songs to thr list. Thanks for suggesting them.
I've never played Skyrim or Halo, but both these pieces by Voiceplay are phenomenal! I had never heard of My Mother Told Me before, and now it's one of my favorites. And they took Hoist the Colors beyond the next level. But I guess that's what you get when pretty much everyone's range in Voiceplay is yes. 🤣
Voiceplay has an amazing variety of music. They cover Disney, pop, musicals, video game music, classic rock and more and can sing every genre like they were made to sing it. I would recommend their cover of Dream On they released recently.
OK, left to right, there’s J.None and Earl, both of whom have left Voiceplay in the last year or so. Then the guy in the red is Eli (ELee) Jacobson, Geoff, and Layne Stein, the beatboxer and arranger of this piece. Basically, from what I understand, the vocals are done in studio. The guys then sing along while playing their parts for the video, so it’s all kind of lip synced in the video. Geoff is known for his subharmonics-it’s a particular way to produce notes that your natural voice can’t get to. He’s actually gone quite a bit lower (Bb0) in Halo Theme. In chest voice he gets down to somewhere around G1, maybe down as far as F#. These guys just released a version of Aerosmith’s Dream On that is really excellent. As always, they take the original and do their own thing. Lots of music to enjoy with these guys! Welcome to the rabbit hole! Thanks for doing this! Looking forward to seeing more!
Voiceplay: This is Halloween, Grim Grinning Ghosts, My Mother Told Me, and Geoff has some stuff on his own such as Take Me Home Country Road, Blackbird, Headless Horseman from an old Disney animation and from Last year, he did a remake of Monster Mash, and a month ago he did Big Bad John. They were on the same season of The Sing Off as Home Free, who won but VP and HF are very good friends often helping with arrangements for each other. Oh yeah, most HF fans will have you wait a bit before listening to their cover of Mayday, until after a dozen or so of their earlier stuff, just so you can appreciate their voices. Fantastic and well reasoned reaction ... thank you
I LOVE watching people react to this. Seeing them praise Geoff's low notes throughout the song, then their jaws hit the flaw with his range and the absolute face of disbelief on the last E not he hits. Serotonin everytime.
Geoff actually has 7 octaves but Tim Storms has 10 world record holder of lowest singing voice, lowest note ever produced by a human G−7, or 0.189 Hz, and widest vocal range of 10 octaves and is an Acapella legend its a shame so few people know / remember him sure he mostly did Christian Acapella back in the 80 - 90s if i recall correctly but still he sure is the master bass singer check out his "Lonesome road" song / cover
The led mouth light is a carnival gizmo...we used to give them away as prizes to kids. Its just a mouthpiece that lights when you bite on it. Please see all of the VoicePlay stuff...they are phenomenal. Geoff also has his own channel which is really great. He has hit a B0 in concert.
That E1 at the end was pretty impressive at the time. He's gotten to where he regularly hits G1 in chest voice. That is impressive enough and then he goes up 4 octaves and is smooth and clean at every part of that range.
Im getting addicted to watching reactions to this. People getting impressed by that "really low note" in the beginning, just to drop their jar at the end
Generally, their videos are not live audio but they have several ACA top 10 that are. They sound amazing in those too! VoicePlay is definitely my fav Acapella group. Hard to go wrong with any of their stuff!
That E1 at the end always gets me, but seeing someone hear it for the first time is a treat. The slight surprise at his early low notes is fun, the slightly stronger surprise at his range, and I'm just smiling and thinking "just wait, he's going to draw a note up from a few meters beneath his feet, and knock you off your own when he does".
You would NOT be disappointed by a trip down the Voice Play rabbit hole! Moana Medley, Little Mermaid Medley, Mr Grinch (save for Christmas season!), If I were a Rich Man... Phantom of the Opera... SO many great options.
music videos are very rarely "Live" audio, unless it specifically says it's a live recording, and that goes for any artist/group out there. what they do is sing along during filming to produce the right movements in the face, mouth and throat to make it look natural and real. so they are actually performing it for real, but the actual audio is from a studio recording.
Geoff has a few videos on his own channel where he sings harmony with himself, you should check out Blackbird to see his range, currently an impressive 5 octaves. Voiceplay go the whole hog in most of their main productions with set, make-up, costume, lighting and all. They all have the ability to get into character for their videos, so the songs sound very genuine.
Fantastic reaction. Can you react to VoicePlays song. Warrior (imagine Dragons) please its amazing. Layne beatboxes while playing a violin at the same time xx
I have a real soft spot for band teachers being a flute player myself. I also enjoyed seeing your first time reaction to Voiceplay. Everything they do is amazing. They are all so talented.
Love that you are now reacting to VoicePlay. They are considered by many to be one of the top three Acapella groups . The other two being Pentatonix and Home Free. Love Geoff's solo channel as well. He often harmonizes with three or four other Geoffs, which is amazing, don't miss Blackbird, Sixteen Tons, and Shenandoah there. Have fun, VoicePlay is amazing and fun.
Welcome to VoicePlay! xD I love seeing someone's first reaction to Geoff's low notes. If you want some recommendations, definitely check out their latest release ("Dream On" by Aerosmith really showcases the tenors!), and one of Geoff Catellucci's solo songs like "16 Tons" or "House of the Rising Sun".
If you like the theatrical side... you have to check out some of their medleys. They've done Moana and Little Mermaid both featuring Rachel Potter and they're both amazing.
Hi Bob! So actually Voiceplay records every voice seperately and then puts them together, that's since they live pretty far from each other. Then they meet up once and record the music video.
Geoff did the arrangement on their Wicked medley and it's incredible as well. Layne, the beatboxer does some amazing stuff in that one, with two guest singers who are just perfect.
@@bobcieslinski Another interesting release recently was Home Free doing Aint Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up from Garth Brooks. It has harmonic solos done without instruments. You have to find it on Facebook play instead of UA-cam though.
Omg enough with the mouthpieces. It’s a pallet that goes on the roof of your mouth. You can easily find them at Spencer’s if they’re still around. Kids used to play with these 10+ years ago, it’s not that interesting.
@@bobcieslinski I apologize. I’ve just been watching these and there’s a common theme with certain people; some focus on their talent, and an alarming amount of people focus too much time on those mouth pieces, and I find it annoying. So it’s not just you.
All of the songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas are very well suited to VoicePlay's theatrical style of performance, but this one is my favorite! Geoff shows his range really well, especially in the last minute or so of the video, and the "character voices" that the others use in singing their parts are really good matches for the tone of the video! 1:08 Bob: "Whoa-ho-ho-ho!...That was a really solid low note!" Us: Ha ha, he ain't heard nothing yet! Geoff has a few videos on YT about how he sings low notes. He said that the last note he originally sang up an octave, but Layne (who arranged the song) asked him to do something special to end the video, so Geoff sang a subharmonic, something he's trained himself to be able to do. It's not the same technique as a growl-note, but don't ask me to explain it - you're a lot better off going to Geoff's channel and hearing his explanation for yourself. For more VoicePlay: The Dragonborn Comes, My Mother Told Me (not what it sounds like, LOL!), Hoist the Colors, or just about anything from their playlist.
Pretty much all of the acapella groups record separate and combine for the videos. Not to say that can't do these live, I've seen them do this live (via a fan recording at a concert a while back pre-covid), but Mic's in this type of environment wouldn't be capable of picking up all parts evenly.
Also, false-fold subharmonics, it's almost like throat singing. One can use vocal fry to initate the false folds that happen to vibrate at half of the speed of the natural folds, which of course is an octave down. Geoff can naturally get down to a G1 at least in chest, and he's hit solid B0s subharmonics in songs like Halo. I personally have hit around D1, I can hit E1-G1 easily with no warm up, but my speaking voice is around a G2, which makes sense I suppose. But I'm not anywhere as proficient as Geoff is at this... makes sense as I could see him practicing daily, as it's his job. ... I just play around with it as I'm typing here and here.... one good thing from COVID lockdowns is I started singing (albeit to myself) while working from home on the computer!
Please, check out Geoff Castellucci’s cover of the Beatles “Blackbird,” “The Headless Horseman,” and “Far over the Misty Mountain Cold.” Notice everyone in these videos are Geoff. These are AMAZING.
Welcome to the voiceplay rabbit hole Bob. Enjoy the trip. Check out Hoist the Colors and Dream On by Voiceplay and House of the Rising Sun and Take Me Home Country Roads by Geoff Castellucci.
Voice Play was one of several really worthwhile groups that were eliminated from season four (or was it two?) of The Sing-Off, which was won by Pentatonix in season three and Home Free in season four. And there were others as well. The Sing-Off was the finishing school for the world of "popacapella," the modern acapella. Fans of these groups usually have their favorites, but admit, sometimes grudgingly, their debt to Pentatonix, for leading the way. I follow PTX myself, but also enjoy and acknowledge the work of Home Free and Voice Play. And just a bit ago, I caught up with another group from the Sing-Off, I think it was season two, called Face, and they were brilliant too. There's so much to admire and love!
Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of I Got Friends On The Other Side. That is one of their best character videos. If you know anything about the Halo video game please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of Halo. At the end Scott Porter, a former member of Voice Play gives a tribute to a fallen comrade. Also Voice Plays version of If I Were A Rich Man/Girl from Fiddler on the Roof is amazing. Voice Plays version of Dream On by Aerosmith. Voice Plays version is much better. Always keep Your eyes on their videos because you might miss something. I say this because they are very theatrical.
If you know any band/drama/theater kids who get bullied for being in band/drama/theater, they need to see VoicePlay (and Pentatonix/HomeFree/etc). For some reason, these kids are often the bottom of the pecking order in school, yet everyone loves entertainers/performers/musicians. Makes no damn sense. I often wonder how many amazing artists the world's missed out on, because bullied kids didn't make the connection between being in school band/drama/theater and creating something like VoicePlay, so they quit before realizing their potential.
Voiceplay and Geoff's solo work. Home Free, another male accapella group and their solo channels from Austin Brown, tenor, and Tim Faust, bass. Tomi P is a solo bass singer with an even higher range than Geoff's, he gets into the whistle range!
It's definitely possible to sing with a mouth light in; the German band Rammstein made it popular back in 2011 ua-cam.com/video/IxuEtL7gxoM/v-deo.html Originally, the singer in that video (Till Lindemann) had his cheek pierced so he could run the light cable into his mouth, but after the hole self-sealed one night while he slept, he just started running a flesh-colored wire into his mouth for live performances. Given the low lighting in this video, that might work here, but also given that it's been 11 years since that cheek-piercing thing was necessary, I'm sure it's possible to have a fairly flat mouthpiece to sit at the top of the palette for minimal intrusion to singing. LED electronics are absolutely miniscule nowadays. Also the entire video is 100% studio recorded or otherwise dubbed in some way; you can see that the audio never perfectly matches up with the singers, which is almost inevitable in music videos with any amount of physical movement by the singers in them. You can't get that kind of fidelity from even a boom mic, let alone a lapel, which would be necessary for the camera to be as far away as it is. The audio is clearly sung directly into a mic with a larger diaphragm.
If you love Voice Play then please check out Geoffs own solo UA-cam channel. There's a low note in pretty much everything he does. But I recommend you watch The Headless Horseman first 😁
My favorite, favorite is Sixteen Tons by Geoff. It is sung by a group of five and Geoff is all five. I literally get goose bumps every time I hear and see it. You really must react to this song, I guarantee you will Love it, I never saw a commenter that did not love it!!Geoff is a 💗💓
You need to listen to Geoff Castellucci's solo work! For starters try his cover of the Beatles Blackbird or the Headless Horseman. He has a 5 octave range and he does all the harmonies and the lead, layered together seamlessly! Then try his latest, Ain't No Sunshine! It is awesome!
The light in the mouth stuff can be achieved in several ways, even with singing live. The most extreme version ought to be still Lindemann, front singer of Rammstein, in the video to the song „Ich tu dir weh“ (ua-cam.com/video/IxuEtL7gxoM/v-deo.html). He literally had a hole punched through his cheek to put a cable through for the light. And performed live, with the light shining out of his mouth. You can still see the scar of the hole in photos, it was the left cheek. And yes, he developed a bad inflammation…
As to the LED in the mouth singing, it can be done, Til Lindermann of Rammstein did it for a while on live stage performances. Though he is insane, and has performed with flamethrowing wings strapped to his back.
Back in the early eighties there were party-favor-type things available that blinked like those mouthpieces that could be used while speaking and (with lots of practice!) singing
A bit late to the party, but since I can't see it mentioned, The Charismatic Voice did an interview with Layne about how they arrange, record, layer, and mix their songs. It's pretty interesting.
It is certainly possible to perform with an led in the mouth. Check out Til, the lead singer of Rammstein. He actually had a hole drilled into the side of his cheek for an led to be run into while performing a song live. Obviously I doubt Voiceplay went that far, they’ve likely got an led that mounts to the roof of the mouth and is held in place by a mold to the teeth
I remember hearing one reactor complain that this song has Geoff start with singing as a character but then constantly has him break it while the backup characters never break their character's singing voice, and now I just can't unhear it. I still think the song is good, but I do think that it suffers from the break of character by Geoff at various points.

Yes the voices thing is awesome and not easy to do. Thanks for all of the info! I can’t wait to do more of their videos.
You wanna hear Geoff sing in a lower tone? 16 Tons and Voiceplay's My Mother Told Me. I'm fairly new to them myself but dear GOD those two songs!
Wanna hear the world record holder of lowest singing voice? check out Tim Storms Acapella legend its a shame most people dont know / remember him i think his lowest note is (B-1/Bb-1) or around 15Hz (remember most people cant hear below 20Hz) i think he do F1 (one of Geoffs most common lows) in chest voice people are so impressed with Geoff and dont know Tim is making me a little sad
Dont get me wrong Geoff is good with his 7 octaves but Tim is slightly better with his 10 octaves you need to add a second keyboard starting at the lowest note to measure him :S
They don't technically lip-sync. They actually sing along with their prerecorded voices during filming and don't use the audio. They think it looks more "live" than lip-syncing. ... Guy
Thanks guy! I figured it was something like that.
If you want to hear how low he can go, check out his solo work, specifically "Over the Misty Mountains Cold"
In Misty Mountains he shows how you can change the tone of a note, without changing the note itself. His low note(s) throughout the song are F1, and they are all F1 despite sounding very different.
Came here to say this!!!
Seeing people's faces on that last E1 makes me giggle every time.
my absolute FAVOURITE thing to do?
watch people reacting to Geoff hitting those sub-bass low notes~ THE JAW DROPS ARE HILARIOUS
Geoff is incredible with the low notes and read where he works at trying to go even lower. Wow!
Enjoy!
Thanks Psychman555! I think I will stay awhile and enjoy this amazing group. Thanks for the great suggestions and entertaining comments.
Thanks for thr great info Christine!
Still so sad that Earl left. 😭
Has anyone ever figured out where Earl went to and why he left the group question
@@pjschmid2251 Not that I know of, he is a very private person. I have however seen a video of him appearing with some other guys at one point.
The last note Geoff hits is a subharmonic E1, here's a small clip of him doing it:
ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxkwWSmPep4QUJxoFdb0FVjBF2IGUrnceF
If you want another kind of stripped down song by them, no beatboxing just five voices, I suggest Cant help falling in love. One of their most underrated songs.
One of my very favorites, I was trying very hard to limit myself, LOL. Oh, you want some Voiceplay suggestions: 10 HOURS LATER....
@@patriciaschuman4205 🤣🤣🤣 totally understand.
Thanks for thr great info and suggestions Patricia. I figured they weren’t actually singing in that part. That it was pre recorded and they were singing but then in editing they synced it all up.
Your face you made at the last note just told the "Damn son!" I think everyone has on their mind hearing it for the first time
Definitely check out other Voiceplay (Carry On Wayward Son, Elenore Rigby, Queen in 5 Minutes) and Geoff's solo channel (Blackbird, 16 Tons, House of the Rising Sun) are favorites
Thanks for thr great suggestions B Wayne.
@@bobcieslinski on his personal channel start with blackbird, which shows a lot of his range.
I love watching people's brains melt when they hear that subharmonic E1 at the end.
Geoff doesn't do many growls but he is the master of subharmonics. He is remarkable. The character voices just amazing.
I love his videos and Voiceplays. They are always a go big or go home thing.
You defenetly have to check out more Voiceplay video's. They all worth to watch and also have a look at Geoffs solo chanel.
Thanks Tina. I am loving them so far. I can’t wait to do more. Which will be soon.
It's Voiceplay and they recently released their version of Dream On by Aerosmith. You might also want to look at Geoff's solo work. He recently released his cover of Ain't N Sunshine, by Bill Withers
Thanks Durchy’s World! I will add those to the list.
Bob: That just blows me away..that solid solid low note...
Me: Just wait *grabs popcorn*
Excellent reaction! I see that you react to Home Free and Pentatonix quite a bit. Well now that you found Voiceplay , buckle your seatbelt! You have a lot to catch up on and you will have so much fun doing it! They are by far the best of the top three a cappella groups, in my humble opinion. You have a new subscriber in me and I hope you continue down the VoicePlay rabbit hole. And do check out Geoff Castellucci‘s channel, you will be blown away!
Thanks Acappella is my Jam! Love the name! Oh I’ve already recorded another one. They are so good.
Do react to more VoicePlay they are the best in my opinion. They are so talented and fun. Geoff has a five octave range and uses most of it in a lot of their songs. It's just so much fun watching them.
I plan on more Christine.
Thanks Nate for the suggestions! I can’t wait to check out more.
Thanks for the great info Lkayh! I can’t wait to do more. Matter of fact I have another one I’m working on. Look for that one soon.
And a fun fact is that Santa is played by Geoff’s brother-in-law Pasquale, Cathy’s brother. And it’s voiced by Eli.
Fantastic and well reasoned reaction ... thank you
Thanks for the kind words Steve! I’ll add this great suggestions to my list. Thanks also for the info on These guys.
They just dropped a cover of DREAM ON an Aerosmith's song, they killed it
I love that song. I’ll have to add that one to thr list. Thanks Travis!
I LOVE watching people react to this. Seeing them praise Geoff's low notes throughout the song, then their jaws hit the flaw with his range and the absolute face of disbelief on the last E not he hits. Serotonin everytime.
For sure. Amazing!
Geoff has an amazing 5 octave range!!!
He is amazing. Those low notes are wow!
Thanks Dale! I’ll check it out.
That E1 at the end was pretty impressive at the time. He's gotten to where he regularly hits G1 in chest voice. That is impressive enough and then he goes up 4 octaves and is smooth and clean at every part of that range.
Yeah it’s so clean. Crazy how low and good.
Yeah Geoff is good but check out the master Tim Storms his lowest note is G−7, or 0.189 Hz which is 8 octaves lower G on a piano
Thanks Traci! They are really great. I’ve got another one of theirs that I am editing soon and trying to get out. I like what I am hearing from them.
Voiceplay Dream On..a must!!
I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Wow that all sounds great. Can’t wait to get to those. Thanks!
@@bobcieslinski my pleasure! Love your reactions!
music videos are very rarely "Live" audio, unless it specifically says it's a live recording, and that goes for any artist/group out there. what they do is sing along during filming to produce the right movements in the face, mouth and throat to make it look natural and real. so they are actually performing it for real, but the actual audio is from a studio recording.
Thanks for the great info Huldra!
Yes! Go down the VoicePlay rabbit hole! Dream On, Hoist the Colours, The Dragonborn Comes!
Those sound very interesting Rachel! Thanks!
I highly recommend anything that VoicePlay does!
Please keep reacting to voiceplay, not enough people are aware/amazed by the pure talent always on display :)
Oh my gosh Nick. I’m surprised cause these guys are amazing and Geoff has a sick low voice. It’s incredible.
Thank you! I agree, the entire ensemble is extraordinarily talented.
Thanks Kimberly!
Hanks for thr great info Tryst. I can’t wait to see more and I do have another one that will be coming out soon.
Fantastic reaction. Can you react to VoicePlays song. Warrior (imagine Dragons) please its amazing. Layne beatboxes while playing a violin at the same time xx
I’ll check it out thanks for suggesting it.
I have a real soft spot for band teachers being a flute player myself. I also enjoyed seeing your first time reaction to Voiceplay. Everything they do is amazing. They are all so talented.
Thanks Bobbi! That’s cool you were a flute player. That’s a hard one to get started on. Especially with the fingerings and the way you have to blow.
Love Voiceplay they are my favourite acapella group. Geoff is absolutely amazing and so is everyone else! Can’t go wrong with any of their videos
Thanks for the comment AshCG! He is quickly becoming a favorite if mine. I’ve got a few more of theirs in working in. Can’t wait to get them out.
Yes they are all three pretty awesome and unique. I’ll keep them coming for all three plus more. Thanks!
Please react more voiceplay please please
I sure will Melodie. Look for another one soon.
Agreement!!! they are my absolute favorite
G1 is Geoff bread and butter every day. As already mentioned he can go way lower but G1 is easy.
I never get tired of seeing people react to that low note. I was also stunned when I first heard it.
If thats the case you must be new to the genre i assume? coz its not really that special or im just picky:S
Geoff has had his range measured and he is capable of tenor all the way to sub bass
Yes, please visit more VoicePlay and Geoff! Really anything you pluck from this deep rabbit hole will be entertaining and wonderfully harmonious! 🙂👍
Oh I’ll be back to them soon. So good.
Thank you for reacting to VP! They are fantastic and I love the expression on your face at Geoff's low note!
Thanks Reflexxuns! Yeah what a shocker hearing that. So crazy good!
solid reaction. but everything on youtube is lipsynched unless it's clearly recorded from a phone. nothing wrong about that. (or a live performance)
Boo Gris nothing wrong with that. I’ve done a few videos myself thr same way.
If you like the theatrical side... you have to check out some of their medleys. They've done Moana and Little Mermaid both featuring Rachel Potter and they're both amazing.
Wow those sound great John! Thanks!
Hi Bob! So actually Voiceplay records every voice seperately and then puts them together, that's since they live pretty far from each other. Then they meet up once and record the music video.
Wow incredible. Thanks for the great info Jogo! Technology is something these days.
Geoff did the arrangement on their Wicked medley and it's incredible as well. Layne, the beatboxer does some amazing stuff in that one, with two guest singers who are just perfect.
You should react to Voiceplay’s The dragonborn comes
Thanks Madoc!
Check out the new one Dream On
Sounds good Cherice!
@@bobcieslinski Another interesting release recently was Home Free doing Aint Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up from Garth Brooks. It has harmonic solos done without instruments. You have to find it on Facebook play instead of UA-cam though.
Oh, since I heard this on your channel, I wake singing “ I am the oogie boogie woman”!
Lol
Not for sure if you like viking songs or not, but if you do .. check out their song "My Mother Told Me"
I’ll check it out Steven. Thanks!
Omg enough with the mouthpieces. It’s a pallet that goes on the roof of your mouth. You can easily find them at Spencer’s if they’re still around. Kids used to play with these 10+ years ago, it’s not that interesting.
I’ve never seen those before Beverly. It’s new to me. I’m sure I’ve seen a few things that you haven’t. It happens.
1:08 Bob: "Whoa-ho-ho-ho!...That was a really solid low note!"
Us: Ha ha, he ain't heard nothing yet!
Lol thanks for the info and suggestions. I’ll have to go check his channel out and see what he’s actually doing.
Yep I agree James. I’ve done videos like this myself. Much easier to check from the environment doing it that way.
Please, check out Geoff Castellucci’s cover of the Beatles “Blackbird,” “The Headless Horseman,” and “Far over the Misty Mountain Cold.”
Notice everyone in these videos are Geoff.
These are AMAZING.
they just released dream on cover it is amazing
Thanks I’ll check it out Dana!
Welcome to the voiceplay rabbit hole Bob. Enjoy the trip. Check out Hoist the Colors and Dream On by Voiceplay and House of the Rising Sun and Take Me Home Country Roads by Geoff Castellucci.
You just have to listen to The Hu, HUVE, HUVE, HUVE, subtitles Mongolian heavy metal!
just watch thecarsmatic something girl...she talked to jeff. He explained 'how'. (yes I know my spelling suck, English not my 1st language)
If you like this one, check out their video for "Kidnap the Sandy Claws"
Try listening to Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. The last note is UNBELIEVABLE!!
The light comes probably from a small LED in their mouth, singing works perfectly fine Rammstein did the same witch White LEDs at live concerts
Subscribed hope you react to stuff like 16 tons by Geoff or the Mission Impossible/Jingel Bells Remix by voice play as well
It's definitely possible to sing with a mouth light in; the German band Rammstein made it popular back in 2011 ua-cam.com/video/IxuEtL7gxoM/v-deo.html
Originally, the singer in that video (Till Lindemann) had his cheek pierced so he could run the light cable into his mouth, but after the hole self-sealed one night while he slept, he just started running a flesh-colored wire into his mouth for live performances.
You want to know there names Layne, Geoff castellucci, Eil,Earl and J.None that all there names of voiceplay
If you love Voice Play then please check out Geoffs own solo UA-cam channel. There's a low note in pretty much everything he does. But I recommend you watch The Headless Horseman first 😁
Great reaction. Great video Thanks!
Thanks Luna! I appreciate the kind words!
if you haven't already, by the same band (a couple different people), their cover of The Dragonborn Comes from the videogame Skyrim.
If you want to see another music video with a light being used inside the mouth... check out Rammstein Rammlied (live at Madison Square Gardens).
My favorite, favorite is Sixteen Tons by Geoff. It is sung by a group of five and Geoff is all five. I literally get goose bumps every time I hear and see it. You really must react to this song, I guarantee you will Love it, I never saw a commenter that did not love it!!Geoff is a 💗💓
You should check out some of Geoff Castellucci's solo stuff. Amazing work. In Way Down he hits a C1.
Perhaps check out some of Geoffs solo work too on his channel?
Blackbird, Misty Mountains and Sixteen Tons are my tree favorites of his.
I've been hopping between different musicians reactions on voiceplay's oogie boogie, I laugh every time Geoff does the low note XD
It's pretty interesting.
i would recommend "hoist the colors" and "dragon born" from Voiceplay !
Oh yeah, you might also look into another acapella group called Home Free. I would consider them on par with Voiceplay !
listen to Hoist the colours... but have your lights on , or they will scare you to death. They are THAT GOOD.
Is Geoff a low bass, a bass, a baritone, or a tenor? Yes.
That’s funny John! You called it right.
I remember hearing one reactor complain that this song has Geoff start with singing as a character but then constantly has him break it while the backup characters never break their character's singing voice, and now I just can't unhear it. I still think the song is good, but I do think that it suffers from the break of character by Geoff at various points.
