So we talk about emotion. Judas Priest has been part of my emotion for 40 years. All that you are describing has been infused in my being through that music. When I discover that he is/was gay, what do I respond? Well, it is all emotion, yeah?
@Victor Kim! I was here to suggest the same song, as a person of similar age.😉 Diamonds and Rust is a song by Joan Baez. The live performance from Epitaph DVD (on YT) features an older but not less expressive Metal God. Better outfits though if you can believe that!
No Auto Tune. No machines. No fancy electronic gadgets. These guys played pure metal, and blew the other bands away that day. And Halford's vocals were AMAZING!
I was there. It was very hot. The previous November at the Cow Palace in San Francisco for the Vengeance tour (1982) Rob Halford had promised us that Judas Priest will be there and he invited us to join them. Judging by the size of the crowd, I'd say we all took the band up on this invitation. The size of the crowd for the Cow Palace concert was too big, also: It was MOSTLY outside the arena, it had caused 10 hours of absolute gridlock for the entire bay area. On the Oakland bay bridge - people were barbecuing, jamming tunes, tossing a frisbee around on the bridge. In that era: a Judas Priest concert would flood beyond the perimeter of ANY venue in the world. If it could pack 12 million in: 45 million would show up. It just didn't matter. This band had fans. NOBODY could ever dislike them some Priest.
I was there too! It was amazing and crazy, one of the best nights of my life (and you were there too:) it’s still my favorite concert and still my favorite band…🎤🎸🎧👍🏼😁
Im 57 and have loved Judas Priest since 1978. I've listened to Victim hundreds of times. Yesterday I heard it differently than I ever had. Thank you for that.
@Ron Lincoln lucky you! I'm 57 too, but I didn't discover and fall in love with them until, er, 1980. But yes, totally with you on finding a new way to hear VoC. Never expected that!
The recording of Victim of Changes in 'Unleashed in the East' is one of the finest live performances ever done. That whole album is just crazy great. The energy is stratospheric.
“Whiskey woman don’t you know that you are driving me INSAAAAAAANE!” This is a classic from ‘76, and is essential metal. While Halford was going through some insane substance abuse that may have led to improper live vocal technique, this beast of a man still put out THIS kind of performance! Just wow. He still has a powerful multifaceted range 50 years into his career, which is mind boggling. Halford, Dio, Dickinson are the big three tenors of heavy metal for a reason. They’re unstoppable! Hail THE METAL GOD! And HORNS UP!
I grew up in the 90s listening to the grunge bands of that era but liking the "old" metal bands better, Metallica, Slayer, Maiden. Still like metal in all its forms, even the extreme ones. but I tried to find out how it all started and Sad Wings of Destiny - for me -seems to be one of the first more "modern" metal albums. Sin after Sin is totally insane, clearly ahead of its time. But this song is pure heavy metal, from 1976! I am quite sure that Priest, together with Sabbath shaped every other metal band to this day. It must have felt out of time listening to this in 1976...Of course there were Dio, Samson, UFO and others but they were still more rooted in rock and roll and this was like a new dimension...
Elizabeth: You are the best vocal reaction channel I have found on UA-cam. No one else delves into the lyrical content and its relevance to the song like you do. You have a great gift in your ability to articulate your thoughts, which in turn makes you a great teacher. You deserve all your successes, and I hope your channel continues to grow.
Rebecca Vocal Athlete is better. Less talking over the songs and less words to make a point. Just my take. You don't have to agree. BethRoars is awesome too
I met Rob at a record store in San Diego - he was dressed in fairly normal clothes and having a chat with my boss. I didn't recognize him at first. My boss called me over and said, "Hey Daniel, come meet my friend Rob." So I went over and said hello and shook his hand. He complimented me on my Suicidal Tendencies hat. I mentioned the time I saw Suicidal open for Metallica at a racetrack in Houston. Rob says, in his accent, "It was bloody hot that day!" I was all, "Yeah, it was... wait...." And it all went blurry for a second when I realized who I was talking to. I told him that his band Fight had surprised the hell out of me and my friends - we were expecting some Priest-meets-grunge mess, but they were tight and really won the crowd over. He was really happy to hear that and we talked for a good half-hour about all kinds of music. What a laid-back, interesting dude.
I've watched a LOT of your reviews and I think the thing I love the most is your genuine excitement over what you're hearing. It's like watching a kid unwrap a Christmas present. Thank you for what you do!
This makes her by far my most favorite "reactor." Because not only is her reaction to metal, some for the first time, so nice to see, unlike most reactors she actually has so much to say that's validating and appreciative and informed on the subject of music and voice as an instrument.
You'll never understand Priest unless you've been there. I honestly hate all these videos, personally. Not because of Priest, it's just not even close to being there. I'd rather have the studio version here. Anyway, one of the best live bands ever. You can tell who's been there when they talk about it, put it that way.
I first saw them live back in 2011 and I was so thrilled to see that song live, man. It's my fav from good ol' Priest. They also played it live on Monsters of Rock (São Paulo, 2015) Rob is so damn great, wow
Yeah, that concert series was a fabulous setup. Friday punk, Saturday metal, Sunday rock, I think that's how it went. This was the second time I saw priest and never missed a tour until marriage kabashed that in 2000s. I will always believe there were none better than rob the closest in my opinion is Robert plant. They wail with heart and soul. Impeccable. I just turned 68 and listen to and sing along with priest to this day because once you've got it in your blood there's no ignoring it.
I love how you said Rob “seems like a good friend!” My friends have met him, and he was instantly relatable and even hugged them. I’m still getting over not having been there with them!
I can imagine that you also wanted to be there. And I can confirm what your friends said. I talked to him (and his guitarist) backstage for 15-20 minutes when he was touring with his own band. He was friendly and easy to talk to. We talked about being musicians, playing live, ... When he walked in he said "Hi, I'm Rob Halford, the Metal God" in a half joking way with a smile. I also remember that he wanted to talk longer but someone from management was annoyed and passed by several times to remind Rob that he had something scheduled.
One thing I love about Judas Priest is not matter what, you can count on Ian Hill to be standing in the back just rocking out on his bass. He always looks like he enjoys his job. The entire US Festival show looks so amazing.
Ian Hill was never going to be Steve Harris, so he just settled down to be a steady foundation. You can tell he's one of us who doesn't care at all about guitarists and vocalists getting the entire spotlight. We just kick back near the drummer and sit in the groove.
@@pete-ph5xc Don't underestimate Ian Hill.. He kicks ass. Steve Harris is... Steve Harris. Most of his bass lines are 80% the same. I like both bands. But, Priest beats Maiden in a battle of the bands. Song for song, they'r too heavy for Maiden.
Rob Halford is just amazing. Personally my favorite judas priests song is "the sentinel". Really shows of rob singing and both glenn and kk guitar playing.
@@TheCharismaticVoice Speaking on their stage clothing and the heaviness on stage, it was over 100 degrees on that day in San Bernardino. Can you imagine how much hotter it was in those leathers? Great video and analysis:)
I really have to commend you, most classically trained singers, at least the ones I know, turn their noses away from rock or metal music. But you think outside of the box. Not only that, when I watch you....... I can tell that you are really appreciative of artistry of all kinds. Good for you!
It is sooo validating to hear a professional opera singer echo the sentiments I have about Halford's voice, after all these years of wondering how he'd be perceived by one. Wonderful to hear this music being properly analyzed.
Wazzup. I'm 60 just watched your analysis of Victim of Changes with my 19 year old daughter. First I have to say she stayed awake through the whole video. I used to put her to sleep playing Judas when she was a baby. That being said... I was tearing up enjoying your direction of the performance. From interactions to performance, of Rob's incredible vocal control while still communicating emotions. You blew me away with your extensive knowledge of physical vocalizations along with your appreciation for their stage performance ( did I see some groupie expressions during your analysis?) We also watched your analysisez of Dio with Sabbath and Bruce from Maiden. I pray my daughter Tayza gained an appreciation for all that goes into a performance. These guys really put forth an amazing effort to present fr#ggin awesome performances with each show. Just thanking you for making a podcast like yours. Thank you.🥰
She should also react to Electric Eye - live in this same US festival '83. Rob walking into the stage like a King as he starts the song. That just cemented his position as the Metal God.
You should also react to singer Julia Victoria singing Allen do Rio Azul! Amazing focal control. Really love to hear your reactions.... among all the reactions, you have provided the best in-depth comments. Love it!
Had 2 vinyl copies as first one was worn out Waht is nuts was when Priest came to NZ Auckland an 8 hour drive so many of the Wellington youth Metal scene were there in tribute to their childhood to what their parents bought them up on and these kids played Faster and heavier then anything I had heard as a teenager
It's really worthwhile to listen to the original studio version to get the full effect of this song. Being live, Rob actually limited his range a little here.
While l understand what you're saying about a polished studio version, it also represents a snapshot in time in when they cut it. Many artists say that songs are dynamic and always changing with time, sort of like language. So in that light, seeing live song performance is vitally important also. Further, many song elements often don't make a final studio cut for whatever reason the choice was when cut. Live performance can often allow fuller, fleshed out renditions. Even further, seeing the facial expressions and body motions, the "theatrics" involved in making the song, lend a lot to the overall experience. This is no exception, seeing Rob sing and dance adds extra emphasis to the vocals you wouldn't get from an audio only play, even if every note choice and embellishment in the live isn't the exact same as the one time snapshot of the studio version. Just my opinion is all.
@@kevinkesterson1806 Both versions are valid. Live for his performance and presence, but the studio version is more focused on the vocal performance. As to extended versions, I think of it like movies. When watching the extended director's cut of a movie, I often come to the conclusion that the reason the restored parts were edited out in the original cut was because it doesn't really add anything. If Elizabeth wants a full appreciation of what Halford is capable of as a vocalist, I think hearing the studio version would be time well spent.
I’m a huge Priest fan, have been for decades. To this day one of my favorite tunes is a simple ditty called “Desert Plains.” It just kicks all kinds of ass, IMO. A unique love song. Pure Priest.
Desert Plains, and also Devil's Child are fantastic songs but lack a lot of punch on their studio versions. Both were played too slow. But pumped up during the live gigs of vengeance, defenders tour, and fuel for life, they were fkn awesome. The high notes/crowd interaction on Desert Plains is brilliant. And the vengeance 82 version of Devil's Child is just pure gold.
His voice is so much better in old Priest. Search up Diamonds and Rust AOL Sessions here on UA-cam. It’s acoustic and it is Fantastic! Video quality isn’t great but vocals are perfect. Want something else check out the scorpions and Sails of Charon and Klaus’s voice!
I agree. I think "Dreamer Deceiver" / "Deceiver" is sung by Rob unbelievably. But “Victims of Changes” is also incomparable. In 1976 they didn't even get gold for the album ...
@@Sandmann6627777 I still have my first pressing vinyl. I play my classic vinyl once a year. Just to remember. Just to hear that warm fuzzy static and occasional pop
@@RedCornerMovies I don't get why people insist on pitting bands against each other. There's no need for that. Let's just enjoy great music. No need to make it a competition. Sure, I prefer Priest but I also enjoy Iron Maiden. Other bands I don't like, doesn't make any of those above or below one another.
I was never a huge fan (I prefered Iron Maiden), but saw them live a few years ago and could not believe how he hits those notes perfectly so many years later. And the way his hand gestures at the end of those hard ones is like "Yes! I hit it!". He made me a fan.
They are one of the greatest live bands. Make sure to catch them on this tour, I did, 7th time. Always awesome. It's Andy and Richie now but Richie is just so incredible it doesn't matter and Andy plays very well. Halford still sounds incredible. New album is awesome too.
Thanks for diving into the metal genre and giving these talents the recognition that they deserve. As an opera singer, doing what you're doing, you're bringing some real credibility to these artists. Don't stop!
I can't stop watching you geek out on these performances. You're so infectious and a total music nerd, which in turn is soupy cool. I can't imagine that ever fading... only blossoming into something greater.
No mate totally wrong ..budgie influenced everyone ask any band mate .and uriah heep both before priest .not that priest are awesome ..if it wasn't for budgie you wouldn't have the metal you got .END
Gotta say it is very compelling to see/hear someone with deep classical training venture across the tracks in a committed way and express genuine appreciation for some very un-studied yet still classic hard rock. Fascinating.
Yeah. Before the Dawn, Epitaph, and Last Rose of Summer are likely Halford's healthiest vocals. They show a glimpse of his full voice in a healthy light. It's a nice light lyric instrument that's clearly strong as an ox. Halford made a comment after he left Priest that if he had to do it all over again, he would have sung opera, like Pavarotti.... though clearly he meant Bjorling 'cause he wanted to be taken seriously.
I had the pleasure of seeing them live in 2015, and he was phenomenal. 64 years old and he was still nailing the high screams in this song. I distinctly remember the eerie silence as everyone made their way out of the arena. Legitimately left the audience speechless. All hail the metal god!
You could react to the entire Sad Wings of Destiny album and I highly suggest you at least check it out on your own time. It's a masterpiece. Their first few albums are so heavy but at the same time so easy to listen to. Their first 10 albums are all instant classics. They really are an incredible band.
@Kevin E.... I've been trying to tell them exactly what you said... isn't one bad song on that Album.. ISLAND OF DOMINATION is my favorite track. As a matter of fact I can't think of one bad song on any alblum till KK left the band.. That kinda broke my heart. Their was no replacing him. In my eyes anyways. Alot of people knock Turbo. Saw that tour 3 times. Then theirs Jugulator Ripper Owens. Saw that tour 1 time hey it is what it is thought that was a decent effort. But I'm a Priest Fan for life. My all time favorite.. Have you checked out KKs Priest? I'm totally digging it...JUDAS PRIEST... MY ROCK FOREVER

Give "Freewheel Burning" a listen. There's a section of the song where Rob sings the lyrics at a tremendous speed. It just blows my mind every time I hear it.
I highly appreciate that educated and experienced vocalist take a time to not only react but analyze metal music. It's really rare for "classical" musician to respect metal music. IMO. I really love that you spend time to understand type of music which may be farther from your comfort zone.
That's typically due to them not bothering to give it a chance, to be frank. It's not "refined" typically but it doesn't need to be, and there are so many talented vocalists in metal.
I agree. And she's so articulate and insightful with tecnique, style, lyrical content, all of it. I love watching her genuinely fall in love with what we already know is brilliant
I used to spend A LOT of time around professional classically trained musicians. Sadly, it’s true what you stated. Many will listen to other sorts of music, but it’s mostly ‘beneath’ them. The way I see it was that many of these classically trained musicians are taught to think one way and one way only, do not deviate from the path taught to them. Where as many other types of music, especially heavy metal, is about thinking outside the box and doing the unconventional.
Rob Halford is one of the most genuinely nice guys in metal. In 1986 I went to a local rock bar on a Wednesday night, which was a slow night. (I live in Phx, as did/does Rob) I knew a girl who cut all the local bands hair, and she was hanging out with Rob and KK at another table. (and local bands Surgical Steel, a Priest cover band, and ICON) I asked if she’d get me an autograph from Rob. Couple minutes later a cocktail napkin is tossed in front of me with an autograph, as I turned to say thanks, there stood Rob Halford himself! He asked if I wanted to come hang out at his table. Who would say no? So I slid in the booth next to Rob, KK across the table from me with one of the guys from ICON. Rob bought my drinks all night. He had regular conversation with me like he’d known me his whole life. That was my greatest brush with metal , and I’ve had many beers with rock stars in the circles I ran in back then. No one in the bands that I’ve met was as cordial as Rob Halford. What an era to be 19. (I was last year to drink at 19 in AZ) I hope to cross paths with him again here in Phx someday to pay him back My coffee cup even says “Metal God” on it. Rob Halford was drinking from it on an interview once and my GF tracked one down for me for My bday. lol
Hell yeah, so happy you checked this one out after Painkiller. If you really want to see Halford's range, check out the Live 1975 version of Dreamer Deceiver. Amazing song.
as a metal guitarist, I enjoy seeing reactions from many people in this day and age. Back in the days when I played Metal music, most people thought of us as satanist without first listening to the music. Metal music is composed of Blues notes, classical notes and sometimes just freestyle playing with deep emotional lyrics that speak for itself, and a new heavy and fast note/chord progressions to tell a story most people deal with on a regular basis. Keep up with the great reactions. It makes me smile to see that, finally after over 30 years...people are realizing that Metal music is one of the best music genres in history. Cachai
I can't believe in 45 years she's never experienced priest!!!! Wow and even Chris Cornell.... I some times wonder about the honesty in some of these reactions
I know you’ve mentioned Ronnie James Dio is your vocal crush currently so here is a great fact: Rob Halford has mentioned in interviews that he perceived Dio to be the “God of Metal” rather than himself. Dio was his greatest influence and Rob would listen to Dio’s music before his performances to really motivate himself and his voice.
@@lordbaddkitty www.blabbermouth.net/news/judas-priests-rob-halford-picks-ronnie-james-dio-as-his-rock-god-its-all-about-the-voice/ (This next one is mainly about Robert Plant, but it's here that Halford mentions how he listens to Dio almost every day) ultimateclassicrock.com/rob-halford-robert-plant/ www.blabbermouth.net/news/rob-halford-remembers-ronnie-james-dio-his-voice-is-still-with-us-as-it-always-will-be/ ultimateclassicrock.com/rob-halford-ronnie-james-dio/
In my opinion though, as good as Dio was, Bruce Dickinson surpassed him. While Dio leaned more into his mask as he got older, Bruce became a lot more dynamic and worked on elevating his clean vocals while still hitting piercing shrieks, much like Rob.
There's something so rewarding about watching someone hear Rob Halford for the 1st time (or 2nd in this case lol). I've been listening to him since 1984 (when I was in 6th grade) and am still blown away by him (and the entire band).

Judas Priest is my favorite band, and probably the band I have seen live the most. Their performances are amazing, including the opening bands that usually tag along. I never get tired of hearing Halford sing.
One amazing thing about this generation - Rob, Dio, Freddie... - is that they were very intuitive. Those guys have rare instruments, with a lot of power, range and texture, and no restraints, they simply tried many things and oponned rock to a whole new range of possibilities. Plant, Gillan and Daltrey were amazing, but much grounded on blues. Those guys - Rob, Dio and Freddie - were risk takers and committed to vocal creativity like McCartney. This, per se, is something to value. Mike Patton and Serj Tankian kept that tradition. Some of them sang out of tune sometimes, but this is a small price to pay in the face of that much authenticity and innovation.
I was still at school when I first heard this song and hearing a professional vocal coach analyze and breakdown something I grew up with just makes me really appreciate and respect you and your channel. Your talent is incredible and genuine and the best on UA-cam I have come across. I hope your channel continues to grow, you deserve it. Subscribed.
The acoustic version. Preferably on the '98 Meltdown live album. Probably the only track Tim Owens did better than Rob Halford. It would make a nice comparison video.
The 1st time I ever saw Judas Priest was in 1979 when they were opening up for kiss. The next day, I went and bought unleashed in the east album. Judas Priest has been my favorite band ever since.
I've said it under the Painkiller reaction and it still holds true: If you think that you now know Rob Halford YOU'VE GOT ANOTHER THING COMING! He'll show you another side of his singing every few songs, sometimes every song (edit: sometimes multiple times per song). The same goes for Priest. Incredibly versatile. You've barely scratched the surface ;)
That or the remastered version from Unleashed. Too bad there's no official recording of this song from the Fuel For Life tour. That was the best he ever was.
There was a project called Hear n' Aid that did a song called "Stars." It featured basically every vocalist (and guitarist) of that time. In the chorus you can easily hear Rob distinctly even amongst everyone else (and there were several amazing vocalists in the group), the man simply had an unmatched vocal range and power to his voice.
That was really wicked! I'll never forget hearing it for the first time and IMMEDIATELY you hear Rob just got a whole octave or more above everyone else in the choir. It was really crazy, it's almost like he was so powerful and loud that he blew out the recording
I just love the way she breaks the song down by vocals, lyrics and guitars. She is right on the money on her statements and she is reading the song perfectly. Her reactions to the things she hears seam genuine and I think that is so cool. I’ve been a metal fan most of my life and her take on this song is PRICELESS! Great job!
I'm absolutely in love with her reactions. She gets so excited about this stuff and clearly knows her stuff so well. Her excitement makes me excited about it and she makes my heart flutter.
I appreciate so much miss Zharoff's open mindness towards heavy metal, as a lyrical singer, and her vast knowledge and sensibility employed in analysing the song and performance in all of its nuances, as well as the lyrics. And not any heavy metal, Rob Halford, the best of the best, god of metal! Thanks so much for another video, and if I might ask, please do a reaction to Halford's Silent Screams.
I think the most fun of watching all these is when you know when something big is coming up and you get to see the reaction on her face when she first experiences it. Thanks for letting us experience the first time we heard these moments vicariously through you! 😎
Agreed. Reaction videos can be fun. After listening to her break them down I am even more blown away by Rob as we pay attention to detail. Really fun. You can feel it and dont really need anybody to tell you the reasons why it is cool. But it is fun to have someone breakdown why it is so cool and elicits such emotion.
I stopped listening to Judas Priest decades ago but you’re making me appreciate Rob all over again and I wanted to say thank you. I think he was able to do more with the studio version and it might be worth listening to if you feel like checking it out.
After Painkiller there is really no reason to listen to Priest. Ever since then even with the two Ripper lps they've been chasing that sound in one way or another. Now without KK or Glenn they need to hang it up.
I could watch this critique a hundred times and I'll still be amazed, entertained, educated and just plain impressed with your comments; I adore your facial expressions and appreciate how much you love music and what you're doing. Thank you, once again.
While I do agree that Rob Halford is right there at the very pinnacle of male vocalists, I have to say that Geoff Tate really gives Rob a run for his money.
Taking me back to high school, he was singing like that in the 80s. I'm thankful that you go all around the music world finding things I've been loving for years. You're a class act young lady and educate me every time I watch.
I highly recommend "Dreamer/Deceiver" the BBC performance from 1975, which is a fantastic and very melodic song where Rob Halford really gets to shine vocally!
The fact that Rob Halford is in his mid 60’s and can still belt out those high vocals is amazing Once you see Priests live you will be a fan for life they are the real deal
Yep..For sure. Saw Rob and JP at Hammersmith in iirc 89 or 90. Fabulous performance. Everyone on their feet, singing along, waving and being in the moment. I think Breaking the Law was my intro to their sound. He is just incredible.
The Screaming for Vengeance Tour was probably the peak live I have seen of Priest but I saw the Firepower tour 2 years ago and was blown away how good Halford still is. Also looking forward to his upcoming blues album.
I was at this show, when I was 14. Amazing . Something you have to experience, in person, with the energy jn the crowd..unforgettable. ..also, ignore any nay sayers, you are gorgeous
I am definitely excited to watch Elizabeth's reaction to this song. Rob really displays his vocal range in this song. The dreamer/deceiver (BBC performance) it's really good!!
The BBC version unfortunately doesn't show the entire vocals of the original studio cut where he really belts out the extended notes during the song. The extended version is what Elizabeth needs to hear to understand the true full range of his vocals.
@@MrKruud yes I know exactly what you're talking about. But as far as live performances go it's really awesome. The studio cut does offer more of his range.
Rob Halford is a genuine great singer. The 1st time I ever saw Judas Priest is when they opened up for kiss and 79. Then I saw them a couple more times in concert. They are a great band.
Rob Halford has a tremendous vocal range & his stage presence is very strong. Judas priest is one of the greatest metal bands there ever was. And if it wasn't for Rob Halfords lead vocals, I'm not certain that they'd be as successful.

I think my absolute favorite reaction to date! Rob Halford has such an amazing range and he does it with such incredible ease like it's completely natural for him. He is THE METAL GOD and absolutely deservingly so! Can't wait to see him again.
The studio version of this song is truly epic. His voice was unmarred and the parts you enjoyed so much here were masterfully performed. PLEASE give that a listen, it will be on your playlist forever.
Why does she insist on reviewing the live cuts? At least this 'era' isn't terribly far distant from the album; but her "Master of Puppets" was 2012 live version for an '86 cut. 26 year gap!
I'm going to add my voice to this and agree 100 percent that the Studio version is where his voice really shines. A live performance may show the singers talents outside of the Studio...but the Clean - Precision - Studio version of this far out-shines this live performance.
Halford is 70 now but still kicks ass..One of my favorite Priest tunes, especially the tempo shift near the end , "Once she was wonderful, once she was fine, once she was beautiful, once she was mine" Great review, love the way he blows your mind at the end

You have to do Dreamer Deceiver live on BBC, that is the Halford's best performance, it showcases his entire range
I agree.
Run of the Mill off of Rocka Rolla is another great example of his entire range.

The recording of Victim of Changes in 'Unleashed in the East' is one of the finest live performances ever done. That whole album is just crazy great. The energy is stratospheric.

That album was fixed in the studio big time
“Whiskey woman don’t you know that you are driving me INSAAAAAAANE!”
This is a classic from ‘76, and is essential metal.
Thanks to him we got power metal with EXTREMELY HIGH NOTES!

Well said, Mateo!

This makes her by far my most favorite "reactor." Because not only is her reaction to metal, some for the first time, so nice to see, unlike most reactors she actually has so much to say that's validating and appreciative and informed on the subject of music and voice as an instrument.
I was AT that show. Still feel the energy in that performance, never gets old.
Love watching younger generations "discover" Judas Priest.
You'll never understand Priest unless you've been there. I honestly hate all these videos, personally. Not because of Priest, it's just not even close to being there. I'd rather have the studio version here. Anyway, one of the best live bands ever. You can tell who's been there when they talk about it, put it that way.

Halford has always been humble and approachable. Clearly, rare in the metal world. Glad it was a sensational experience for them.
A buffet waiter once told me that he had served Rob one time and that Rob was one of the nicest customers he's ever had.
I have had a similar experience with Rob. Good guy and a true "metal god."
My wife and I met the band in '05, and all of them (and Rob in particular), were very warm and gracious. Really a nice experience.
One of the most stable things in my life. Ian at the back chopping wood. ❤️
I have such a soft spot for Ian Hill for this exact reason. He just quietly gets on with his job, and seems to love it. Rock solid.
Same with Cliff Williams from AC/DC. Just hold down the rhythm.
But Cliff does go up and do backing vocals.
He knows his ability, and just has fun vocally jumping around.
Rob just sings all the voices.

Halford was asked who his top three vocalists were. He replied Dio, Dickinson, and Plant...
Presumably because he couldn't choose himself.
He even said a few times that he takes much inspiration from Dio and chose him as his Rock God.
That speaks much about the Metal God's humility :)
I'm sure Bruce would name Dio and Halford too, to be fair. and also any metal tenor who doesn't name Dio probably isn't great lol

That, Rocka Rolla, and Sin after Sin.
Rob is certainly one the most talented vocalist to ever walk this planet. He said in an interview that nothing effects his voice. Incredible.
It's really worthwhile to listen to the original studio version to get the full effect of this song. Being live, Rob actually limited his range a little here.
YES!! The ending in studio version is DEFINITIVE.
I cry always. But it has to be the studio verion, or else it wont work.. =P
The studio version is terrific. He really shows the amazing quality of his voice in the quiet section.

I really love that you spend time to understand type of music which may be farther from your comfort zone.

Meanwhile a ton of metal musicians ironically love classical music lol
He's glad his mother made him take opera lessons, it paid off.
(I was last year to drink at 19 in AZ) I hope to cross paths with him again here in Phx someday to pay him back
My coffee cup even says “Metal God” on it.
Cachai

Subscribed.
I love the beautiful expression on this beautiful woman's face amazing
I'd love to hear you review Priest's cover of the Joan Baez classic "Diamonds & Rust", it really is a stunning cover.
on both electric and acoustic, beautiful song!
Id love for her to listen to that song as well. believe she'll catch the last word from it at the start of the video.
Especially on their greatest album, "Unleashed in the East!"
This
The acoustic version. Preferably on the '98 Meltdown live album.
Probably the only track Tim Owens did better than Rob Halford.
It would make a nice comparison video.
Halford rules. The Unleashed in the East version of this track will always be the gold standard. 💕
When I first heard "Victim of Changes" on the album Sad Wings of Destiny, I was blown away. This by far is the best version.
It's awesome on the album Unleashed In The East as well! Live album.
Totally agree 💯
That or the remastered version from Unleashed.
Too bad there's no official recording of this song from the Fuel For Life tour. That was the best he ever was.
@@AB-80X The deluxe Turbo release a few years back has a full concert from the tour, and that Victim of Changes is KILLER as well!
Best version from their classic era imo. My absolute favorite version was at Seminole Hard Rock Arena
The best version of this song is on the live album 'Unleashed In The East'.
HELL YES IT IS...
It really is.
I think "Live in Dortmund '83" is the best and most powerful version of this masterpiece 😎
I agree
Absolutely.
Yeah he's a freak. He kept the full range of his voice for years too.
It's called "We're Stars". I have the single.
Who'll cry for the children?
I just love the way she breaks the song down by vocals, lyrics and guitars. She is right on the money on her statements and she is reading the song perfectly. Her reactions to the things she hears seam genuine and I think that is so cool. I’ve been a metal fan most of my life and her take on this song is PRICELESS! Great job!
"Electric Eye" is one of my favorites by Rob Halfords!!! He is a great performer!!!
Agreed. This is definitely not my favorite version.
I'm going to add to this as well, not my favorite version of this. Check out the studio version.
Why would you stop listening to Judas Priest? Is that even aloud?
@@thisaccount816 Exactly. One should never stop listening to Judas Priest (at least the old stuff)!
After Painkiller there is really no reason to listen to Priest. Ever since then even with the two Ripper lps they've been chasing that sound in one way or another. Now without KK or Glenn they need to hang it up.
Ok, you are now ready to react to King Diamond "Sleepless Nights" Live at the Fillmore! Love the channel!
I could watch this critique a hundred times and I'll still be amazed, entertained, educated and just plain impressed with your comments; I adore your facial expressions and appreciate how much you love music and what you're doing. Thank you, once again.
Pavarotti raved about Rob Halford he said in an interview that Rob Halford was the greatest male vocalist of the century.
I didn't know that.
Legend has it that Pavarotti died because he attempted to sing this song at a Karaoke bar.
@@drtenma3744 legendary!
While I do agree that Rob Halford is right there at the very pinnacle of male vocalists, I have to say that Geoff Tate really gives Rob a run for his money.
@@jeffreyclifton9928 Geoff Tate and Ronnie James Dio
Rob was sick during this show. That alone says how awesome Rob really is.
And it shows. It wasn't a good performance.
Possibly still carrying a sinus infection from around the time of the Memphis '82 gig.
Taking me back to high school, he was singing like that in the 80s. I'm thankful that you go all around the music world finding things I've been loving for years. You're a class act young lady and educate me every time I watch.
Thanks for that. Its great seeing someone get Rob. He has been one of the biggest influences on my life. Great Human
🤘
I highly recommend "Dreamer/Deceiver" the BBC performance from 1975, which is a fantastic and very melodic song where Rob Halford really gets to shine vocally!
I think that the album version is even better.
Rob Halford always said and i love him for this''We're just a heavy metal bad from Birmingham'' no pretence and no bs. Love Priest
The fact that Rob Halford is in his mid 60’s and can still belt out those high vocals is amazing
Once you see Priests live you will be a fan for life they are the real deal
He's 69, I think it's safe to say he's past his mid 60s. One might even say he's entered his best year.
"There is so much metal on this stage." I love it. This era of Priest is epic vocally.
Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, two of the best voices in metal, both have been singing for decades and still going strong!
True... I miss Ronnie Dio :(
Bruce and Rob did a song together on Rob's solo album called "The One you love to Hate"
I guess you didnt mention Dio because he is untouchable
Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and King Diamond. The 4 horsemen of the heavy metal singers.
plus dio
Rob Halford is a genuine great singer. The 1st time I ever saw Judas Priest is when they opened up for kiss and 79. Then I saw them a couple more times in concert. They are a great band.
Rob Halford has a tremendous vocal range & his stage presence is very strong. Judas priest is one of the greatest metal bands there ever was. And if it wasn't for Rob Halfords lead vocals, I'm not certain that they'd be as successful.
Me when you said “this reaction might take awhile”- girl it’s rob halford - you take as long as you need to let his vocals sink in and learn what many of us have already known- rob is the man always and forever- the metal god. One of my bucket list items is to have rob sing for me. FYI- rob is the guy who started the leather and spikes in the metal genre
I think my absolute favorite reaction to date! Rob Halford has such an amazing range and he does it with such incredible ease like it's completely natural for him. He is THE METAL GOD and absolutely deservingly so! Can't wait to see him again.
Rob Halford's voice just keeps getting stronger. Listen to his holiday album Winter Songs to hear the true beauty of his ranges and songwriting.
Yes I agree! The studio version is the original vision for the song❤👍
I'm going to add my voice to this and agree 100 percent that the Studio version is where his voice really shines. A live performance may show the singers talents outside of the Studio...but the Clean - Precision - Studio version of this far out-shines this live performance.
Exactly 💯
yup its on mine
Halford is 70 now but still kicks ass..One of my favorite Priest tunes, especially the tempo shift near the end , "Once she was wonderful, once she was fine, once she was beautiful, once she was mine" Great review, love the way he blows your mind at the end
Oh man, Glen Tipton and KK Downing were the best twin guitarists EVER. Combined with Rob Halfords amazing vocals, Judas priest ruled. Unleashed in the east is the epitome and distilled essence of heavy metal. I love hearing your expert analysis of the vocals.... brilliant.
