fade to black, welcome home (sanitarium), blackened, wherever i may roam, until it sleeps, fuel, the memory remains, turn the page, hardwired, moth into flame, spit out the bone
Watching all three is a great opportunity to hear how Hetfield's voice has matured over the years and how his perspective on the same issues has evolved and changed with age. They're all good, but the first and third are great🔥🤟🔥🤟🤟
As for the variation in voice registers, colors and textures, I heard Montserat Caballé say that Freddie Mercury told her how deliberate he had to be as composer and performer "because he only had about 3 mins to convey emotions for which an opera composer could borrow 10 or 20".
Love it or hate it the Black Album is probably the best production on any metal record ever made. The tones are perfect some say too perfect. Interesting that the same three guys James, Lars, and Bob Rock would make one of the worst produced record ever with St. Anger 10 years later.
Maggie I'm an old metal head. I must say watching you react to METALLICA makes me happy, so many classically trained singers just don't hear Jame's voice like you do, good on you to be so open minded. And yes metallica is my favorite band. Keep up the awesome reactions. I will now search yt to listen to you.
Not only does his voice shift, but so does the emotional tone of that segment. I'm not a musician, but it reminds me of when I was a kid on a bicycle making a hard sliding turn on a gravel road. You grab the brake, kick the back wheel over while leaning hard into the turn, sometimes kicking your leg out to control the lean, and then release the brake just as soon as you're oriented in the right direction. Not great for the gravel road, not great for your tires, and if you accidentally dump the bike your mom's going to be picking rock out of your side, but it's fast and it's fun. Hetfield's mid-line voice shift reminds me of that.
Aloha from beautiful Kona, Hawai’i. Love me some Metallica and this song is easily top 5 for me. James Hetfield’s voice is top notch. Great reaction, as always ❤ Great nomination, Luna! And as always, Woot Woot to Mike!
I've never been too big into metal, but I've heard some other songs by Metalica, and they are excellent at what they do. Very talented and polished. Head-banger Maggie, great reaction. There's another Metalica video that I like and may sponsor in the future.
You're the first person I've heard mention the vocal nuances in the chorus. I've always loved that about James' vocals in this song. James is a highly underrated vocalist.
Uh, you've only just cracked open a Pandora's box. Now you have to do the rest of the trilogy! 🤘 1 -Struggle of youth 2- Forgive others 3- Forgive yourself
This song has aspects of my life, kind of ties in to my music life. Meaning the lack of fruition with my bands. All those textures in history voice that you picked up on brought out the emotional life to the ballad, nice pick Maggie.
effing loved tttheyir so much. god tier musical content. theyard tttheyir song a couple days ago and I fell in love 😍😍😍At tthey moment I'm loving October Ends' new song, you should definitely react to it!
That's not how it happened dude, took many hours or days for Kirk to reach that solo, even you can see Bob Rock pushing him to do it better and better, in the next time
A little bit more time? When did that happen? This is a great one from Metallica. Too often metal is dismissed as just noise. It can be much more than that. It can be thematically deep and musically rich. Good reaction, good analysis.
It’s past time for you to react to Triumph. Something from the 83 US Festival, either Lay it on the Line or Fight the Good Fight. I think you will be gobsmacked by the vocalist Rik Emmett.
Lars may not be the best drummer but he is master of musical arrangements. They were making this like a traditional ballad with a melodic verse and a heavy chorus. It was lars's idea to do the oposite. And thats how we got one of the greatest metallica songs ever and the best writing from James imo !
unpopular opinion...but I love Unforgiven II the most. The "series" of songs is great all together. And I enjoy Unforgiven a lot, but the lyrics to Unforgiven II strikes me the most.
And I do hope you react to my suggestions for epica and nightwishes sister band wintersun that I suggested for you Maggie when you took a poll on metal that your subscribers suggestions. That list of wintersun suggestions were wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 official lyric video and wintersun time live rehearsal video at Sonic pump studio in Helsinki Finland. So I hope you react to those suggestions soon. Thank you much love wintersun Alex ❄️❤️🌹
You really need to check out the official video for a song called "Heat Above" by a band called (Greta Van Fleet). I promise you will not be disappointed. The song has an old school vibe , though the band are young. They sound like a mash up of Freddie Mercury , and Geddie Lee, with a bit of Janis Joplin thrown in for good measure.
I’d like to the recommendations of Metallica “Unforgiven” There’s a band called “The Hu”they do an amazing job of doing their version of this song 🎧 with an incredible video. BTW, they are a Mongolian Rock Band
Sorry, Wikipedia, that interpretation of the video is someone's opinion. Why would you assume that there is someone else on the other side of the window? Just my take, but it seems like the boy/man is digging out the window to escape the place he's in. But, when he finally digs his escape window, he's too old to climb up (and escape). So, he just sits down to die.
The Unforgiven song is so much better than part 2, and 3, and however many more they put out. They are trying to cash in on the success of the first one, this one is the only one I will listen to.

This is a masterpiece.
fade to black, welcome home (sanitarium), blackened, wherever i may roam, until it sleeps, fuel, the memory remains, turn the page, hardwired, moth into flame, spit out the bone
This song has always spoken to me. I can take any moment in my life and plug it into any in the trilogy.
You should do The Unforgiven 2 & 3 soon after. If for nothing else than to compare them all. It’s a great trilogy.
No… they’re awful compared to to this masterpiece.
3rd is solid!
@@julianortiz4151 wrong.. each are great.

AJFA is better produced bro
@@christhomas5007 If you prefer barely hearing any bass.
@@claymccoy besides that. Best sounding drums and guitar
I wish all their albums sounded this good. It’s not my favorite album of theirs, but it has the best production.

Lars drum fills on the song in the chorus is great stuff

This song brings back so many memories we played this at my dad's funeral as he was a major Metallica fan
You're the first person I've heard mention the vocal nuances in the chorus. I've always loved that about James' vocals in this song. James is a highly underrated vocalist.
This is probably my favorite song to sing because of all the vocal shifts. Great song!
tHANK YOU mIKE!!
My favorite song by my favorite band of all time...
the S&M version of this is heavenly
they didn't perform it on S&M !
@@behnammoghimi2858 you're right, I just looked. I could have sworn I heard it at the concert though. Must have confused it with another song
Probably Bleeding Me? S&M version is a masterpiece.
@@mareno3227 might have been. or it may have been that Mandala effect thing and they did play it, just not in our universe.
The Unforgiven 3 was done on S&M2 n it is awesome

Please do
Will not disappoint
Thank you very much Mike. Maggie is great.
Awesome song. When I feel overwhelmed with life this song is my go to.
I really like your channel. Greetings from Johannesburg South Africa 🇿🇦
Just FYI, thumbnail picture is wrong. This is picture of later Metallica. There should be one with Jason Newstead as base player.

The Unforgiven speaks to me. Trying to please everyone as a child/teen/early 20s and just being crapped on every time you turn around.
You should check “fade to black” live version in Lincoln 2019 , it’s amazing!!!
The solo was created on the spot and recorded !
One of Kirk’s best for sure

You should check out Mongolian band, The Hu's version of this song. The video is amazing.
For a metal voice Udo Dirkschneider, former lead singer of Accept, takes some beating...

Also ... do metal artists enjoy opera?
Check out deo
Try Ronnie James dio
Yeah, the time when James still had his voice. Sadly, that is a thing of the past now...
Recorded lol
Quite likely James best vocal performance. Bob rock tortured and dragged this out of James!
The Black album, when Metallica gave up on being a metal band, and, became a fully radio friendly, sellout, "adult contemporary" band.
James is finger picking on this song
