    This is Feedback Friday #2 and in this video, we have, Tabitha Jones. Tabitha is a triathlete who attended one of our freestyle clinics and Hell Week camps. In the space of 8 months, she reduced her 100m pace in a half ironman swim from 2:03/100m to low 1:40's. Take a look at the stroke changes that have made helped her do this.       You don't have to be an olympic swimmer to have swam competitively in highschool or college. Same fundamentals apply, in increasing your speed, only difference is you grow bigger and perhaps get better training and coaches.

    My 9yr old is 1:38/100m, she is coaching me to bring my 2min/100m down, and I tell you, nothing is worse than living with your 9yr old coach 😔

    Thanks for this video. I've been trying to break 30 minutes for a mile for ages without success. Having followed your tips did it in 29:30 yesterday. Just a recreational swimmer, never had a lesson. Really helpful tips. I'll now watch your other videos to see if I can get it down further.

    I think this is more of beginner swimmer or swimmers that just started competitive swimming, dropping 20sec /100m s practically impossible for anyone who has been training daily for a few years

    For me the tip about starting the pull on the catch too early which makes you push down on the water and not back is a game changer for me. Fantastic work...

    Helped me qualify for my city’s swim team. :) (Required 40 seconds when swimming 50 meters)

    Thanks for the video. Been getting into the pool only once a week - usually do a 4 x 500m set. Average around 10:30 mins for the first few sets then drop to around 10:45 mins for the last one as I'm getting tired then. Went to the pool today to do the same set but really tried hard to focus on doing the stroke according to this video and correcting my mistakes. Wasn't really concerned about speed, just getting the technique right.
    Averaged around the 10:00mins for each set with the last one being 10:10mins :) Really helpful tips and going to watch the other videos now. Would love to get to 1:40s/100m...

      It's cool that a couple tweaks plus faster stroke rate got my mile down to 24 minutes--which is good for this 52 year old. Thanks again. Great tutorials.

    Fantastic video, watched it tried the angled hand during pull and helped straight away. I have a damaged knee so tend to use my legs more to balance me and focus on arms. Do you have any tips for swimmers with leg injuries.

    I averaged around a 1:00/100y (75% effort) pace back in high school. I had a 1:20/100y pace when I got back into swimming 3 months ago, now I am back to the 1:00 pace! This video is legit.

    Thanks, this is quite good and mostly clear. The only problem was the early sections when you're talking about arm angle it's not always clear if we're watching before or after and I think the focus of the frame could be closer to the arm to make it easier to see.     It's all about REDUCING drag and aren't we INCREASING the drag when our arm enters the water with a downwards angle (fingers under wrist - wrist under elbow)??? Am I missing something?! 01:49

      Sürüşlerin Efendisi i think it’s about catching more water (& sooner) therefore pushing oneself farther with each stroke. for beginner swimmers, i’ve noticed that a lot tend to kind of slap their arms into the water without thinking, instead of trying to catch more water and getting a stronger pull. if they were to adjust their stroke like shown in the video, they’d probably drop a lot of time!

      Yes, but only if you leave it there and fail to pull back. Don't pause with it there. As long as you are pulling back faster than your body is moving forward, your arm will be creating propulsion and not drag.

    I learned how to swim when I was 11.. and I started competitive swim last year, but I only went to one meet because my anxiety was dragging me away from confidence because my times are bad.. like I try to swim faster.. yet i get exhausted.. for example my time for my 50 free is 42 seconds (I know it's super bad).. but anyways any tips on how to keep a constant speed without your legs giving out or at the end feeling like you are being suffocated? Because I really do want to get over my fears and compete this year..

      Freestyle sprinting is really hard!and for your experience your time is great! I've been swimming for almost 9 years now and it honestly just takes practice. I like to do 10x25's flutter kick all out in the 0:30 to allow for minimal rest, this might help to bring up your pacing and your endurance and you can adjust your interval as needed. It also might be good to take a look at how you're breathing and focus on that during practice. The tired feeling after the 50 feels gross but is natural after you go all out for that long! Good luck!

      Here's just 1 out of 100 tips......just look at your self swimming in 3rd person when u swim ....or just close your eyes and swim and feel yourself flowing with the water while you swim....it helps with what you're mistaking on......

    I was told that when your hand enters the water during a stroke, that you should move it in front of your face and down the center of your torso, because it creates more propulsion through the water, is that BS?

    I am not a champion, but i think the way arms behave out of water is not correct elbows must be higher and hands close to the water almost toutching it. Thanks for the clip

    I've been following Tower 26 (Jerry Rodrigues) and the kick here seems like a lot for triathlon? Am I misunderstanding? Nice progress here!

      Jerry is a great coach. Everyone is different in terms of how much they should kick. She's going at about 400m pace in this video and wouldn't kick this hard in a half IM. Plus with a wetsuit on most people will kick less

    I do 50 x 25m pool lengths in 26min 10sec, the touch turns do me and slow me down more than my technique (intermediate) I’d say. I’ll need to focus on faster turnaround to get quicker.

      kicking on your front with your arms in front of you, try to feel the water going over your hands. Fingers should be at armpit depth. Then try the same thing while kicking on your side with one arm in front and the other by your side.
      You might need to aim a lot deeper than is comfortable to change it.

    How did we get all of the prior olympic 100m freestyle competitors to comment on a video with 854k views? The statistics of that are unreal! There are like 1,000 people on this thread that have swam faster than Mark Spitz did in 1972 at the olympics, setting the then WR. This is awesome. I feel excited knowing how many sub 50 second per 100m are actually clicking on a video titled "How To Swim 20 Seconds Faster (Per 100m)". Great use of your time to all of you WR holders!

    Her stroke cycle is also high. What exercises do we on land to ensure that we tire less in the water. I understand that technique plays a big part but you have to be strong also. But I know there are specific workouts to specific groups of muscles. Can anyone help

      I think specific conditioning is the most important thing, whatever you want to be good at, make the muscles used in that action strong, which comes about through doing that action over and over again over a long period of time. See, I'm an expert.
      I'd also suggest to train shorter distances at faster pace with good form, rather than longer distances at slower pace and sloppy (lazy) form. I learnt that from cycling, perhaps it applies to swimming too.

    I mean...
    I have a 1:20 100y and I hope I can get maybe a 1:10.
    I have a really bad dive though.
    I'll work on the dive and maybe get a 1:15 and then apply this to get a 1:05. This may work somewhat for a young only summer swimmer. I want to do winter but nowhere close does all year around.
