Amazing! I've been staring at this plughole for a few months now, and couldn't work out how to fix it. From your anatomy of the piston, I worked out that my piston had lost its screw and separated in two. I was able to use pliers to screw each side out and now know that I can now buy a new piston, yeh! You've saved me having to call out a plumber, Thank you! For what you do.

This video saved me €100. My plug was stuck in the closed position, and it was really jammed. I tried using a plunger, I tried using wd40, but the thing that finally got it open was the rubber glove trick. Thank you!!

To be honest I didn't think I would find a video on this so for the past 2 years have pondered what to do. I brought a plumber here a month ago about another job and since he was here thought I'd get him to fix this. I first asked for a quote and almost had a heart attack when he told me it would cost me almost $600 to replace it. It took me only a matter of minutes once I followed your instructions. The only issue I had was returning the metal clip because I had depressed the piston all the way down and it wouldn't go in. By releasing some of the pressure on the piston it went in easily using a pair of tweezers to hold the pin. Your blood is worth bottling. Thank you.

This was very helpful, my plumber didn't understand the mechanism and gave up halfway through, he lost the small ring and assembled everything without that metal clip so it would never lock in to place. I had to redo it myself, I use cotton thread instead of that small ring since it was lost. It works so far. I have to say I'm kinda proud of myself.

This is brilliant! I started taking mine apart since it stopped closing and it's only a year old. Saw that little straight piece was loose inside but could not figure out how to get to it or where it should go so I left it on the kit counter for a week getting up the nerve to try again. I tried youtube this time and found you. Done!! Thank you so much for doing the video!

Thanks Bill. An exceptionally easy DIY tutorial to follow. I did however, have to use a fine sandpaper to clean the caked on gunk on the piston and inside the tube to really get the parts clean as mine were completely jammed. I then had to use a small amount of grease to make it run smoothly. Other than that, you saved me over $100 for my whole house. A big 👍

I followed your instructions, got it open and found the pin had caught on the inside and bent so that it wasn't contacting the slot. My pop-up was doing exactly what yours was - sometimes difficult to get it to pop back up, sticky action etc. I watched your video and when you recommended that I shouldn't tackle the service myself, I took out the plunger to check the size then I ordered a new part from Amazon - as you said, very cheap, only £4 (UK). When I re-inserted the plunger into the sink, something went wrong and I had to take it out again. It seemed that something had become disconnected. So, I disassembled it following your procedure, applied some grease and on the second attempt, I got it back together again successfully. All I did wrong on the first attempt was to put the pin back upside down but you did warn us about that! It's now working perfectly so thanks very much for a great video. I will soon have a spare if it sticks again and I can't be bothered to take it apart again.

While I watched the video on how to take this apart, my mother just sprayed some WD40 in it and it works like a dream now. BTW I couldn't take the top off while it was stuck down, to lift it use either a plunger, a magnet, hot glue a stick, or a small suction cap to pull it up. Once it was up a towel or sponge helped give me the grip needed to take it off.

I think I damaged my piston with drain unblocker!! These tips got it working again in no time. Plenty of vaseline, push it up and down a few times - I didn't dare unscrew it - and it's smooth operation again. I also put vaseline inside the screw part of the top of the plug and now I can screw/unscrew it as often as I like to clean underneath it. Absolutely brilliant, thank you.
