This was actually really useful because I used to really struggle with down up charge because I thought pressing either side would stop it, and know to hold down back is so much easier than how I used to play characters
Oof nobody probably knows this game probably but it has a big active community its called Jojo's bizzare adventure heritage for the future. In this game I decided to "main" a charge char as a joke but got too decent at him he is called Polnaref and now I main Guile (or Charlie if i am playing alpha) in SF whit Ryu. Guile is fun because yoy can see the opponent getting bodied from a character whit 2 specials while he can do a fire ball at 10 billion directions and they go aggressive and you just punish whit good normals and flash kicks. Charge chars are fun for sure but don't only play them like I did or you will end up like always thinking about switching.
Basically the idea: Always charge if you are doing *anything* that doesn't require you to hit a direction that will give up your charge. While attacking: charge While doing a throw(in the throw animation): charge While jumping: charge While using a charge attack: charge While forward dashing: charge during the dash animation While doing crouching attacks into a combo, you are charging. This last point is especially helpful in KOF when playing charge characters because after a forward run, you lose your charge, but doing crouching attacks will automatically buffer it.
as someone who doesn't play sf and mainly play anime games, I'll add what I think for charge tips 1.learn characters in some games with both charged and normal specials. The 1st charged character I learned was Ignis from nitroplus who has a (4)6 charge as well as 236 421 etc specials. then learned Anna(nitro), Saki, Angelia, (arcana heart), Morgan(aquapazza)etc. I find after that it was easy to pick up Vatista, Ash crimson, Leona, KIm, etc(unist and kof), etc and use moves in neutral without labbing. Saki is also a surprisingly easy character to learn if you got arcana basics, despite her 8 way charge moves, since most of her bnb doesnt even require doing specials. 8 way charge also means you can always be charging something regardless of which direction you are holding. plus she's hyper offensive rushdown compared to charge characters from more traditional games, for a lot of fun. 2.figure out charge timing in different games. i seem to drop more charge moves in uni since i'm more used to examu charge time. I'm not sure what the exact differences are. I dont seem to drop in other games. I heard sf is 2 seconds so it should be longer than most anime game's 1 -1.5 seconds 3.I find it's pbly just more planning compared to most characters. since you gotta charge moves, you just have to have your move planned while attacking so you'll be holding a direction. 4. I actually never thought or always agree with always be charging. it's pbly because of characters/games I play with a lot of ways to aproach. other when I'm planning a charge move as an option. At least in ignis and anna's case anyways since they got normal specials and so many ways to approach. charge characters in general I'm used to probably arent as defensive as guile though, so it's probably best to not listen to me there for sf characters.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. Since I plan to get into The King of Fighters, I knew I had to look up a charge character tutorial for characters like Leona Heidern, Robert Garcia, King, etc.
the problem I found changing back down is for Chun li who has trouble dealing with cross up, crouching makes your jumping slower than while standing. Since the option to deal with cross up is pretty much jump back jab and such for chun li, at some range is not good to be doing down back. If I want to dash or walk under instead, crouching also makes it slower compare to standing.
Strange Sunset inspired and taught me how to perform the charge motion. The key is to use down back and go directly up/forward. Also,I gotta try up back for charging flash kick motions.
Charge characters force the players to always go back and forth to go into offense. Plus they also make them rely on their normals more than normal characters. With all these things considered : which are similar to the concepts of spacing and fondamentals, are charged characters the best ways for new players and players in general to better their gameplays ?
yes because you learn both their strengths ands weaknesses. Learn Guile for charge character and Ryu for the Shoto characters and you will learn the basics of how to use most characters in the game.
After watching Smug and SnakeEyez beasting over the last few months, I need some new tech to switch my game up... at least until Sagat drops in season 2. Good vid fam...
Thank you man for these great videos I'm new to the game, but I like so much. I even bought an arcade stick so I become better. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do the moves or combos and more importantly I don't know how to read my opponent. Could you please do a video about using the arcade stick and prefoming combos correctly. Best regards from Saudi Arabia
i first started playing SF5 about 3 weeks ago and have used guile since i first loaded the game up, ive played SF before but always with Ken. Now ive learned all the basic fundamentals of the game (with Guile) im having trouble with his advanced combos and ive been having even more trouble with mix ups when using Guile. can anyone help?
Yeah totally agree. ST was probably her most charge-heavy version, since other than legs, every one of her specials (and her super) were charge in that game
Do you have any tips for playing a charge character against rushers who can't stop pressing you, jump over you back and forth to mess up your back charge input and such? Lot of times flash kick will miss and go forward pass the attacker living you vulnerable.
I'm holding charge with Down Back, spent like 3 days trying to get Sonic Boom consistently and still fucking can't. I'm new to fighting games and I'm not saying there should be no barrier to entry, but why the fuck is a move crucial to the kit so fucking finnicky to pull off consistently?
This was actually really useful because I used to really struggle with down up charge because I thought pressing either side would stop it, and know to hold down back is so much easier than how I used to play characters
But...but...LTG says only scrubs play charge characters.
LTG can burn in hell
LOW... TIER... GAWDDDDDDDD!!!
Oh my goodness.... Literally the first comment! Lol
Doesn't he play urien?
Wait does that mean Daigo is a scrub?
I'm glad this was made
I used to HATE charge characters. Now, I gravitate towards them
hell, playing Leona in KOF pretty much required me to do #4
Sodainmycereal The more people who play Leona, the better this world we live in is.
Leona is bae. Leona is the way.

My execution for charge characters is so shit. That's the main reason I'm staying away from charge characters

Happy to help, thanks for watching
When I first fighting game I didn't even realize some of the character I pick are charge character, I main Guile because of his hair.

Thanks for everything 😮😮
I've always enjoyed charge characters, so good info. Grew up playing in arcades, but have never owned a stick for consoles. (maybe some day)

After guile charges he turns into a family man
did not know that last tip. . . good to know teehee
Please finish your "How to beat" series! There's a lot of annoying characters that I'm struggling with.
I've been having trouble fighting Guile's lately
ok #4 was the must usefull to me, like really usefull

Yoo the baby croft video

"walk forward and fire ball, like ryu can". Nope, you cannot
Can't wait till I get sfv
What's a good way to deal with people who spam fireball you. It's hard to keep up with sonic booms
Ah the days before the facecam 😮
Charge characters are easier to control, because when I play ryu for example, I can’t control him (shyruken instead of haduken gor example)
please teach me how make a 1 hit sonic bom like sequences of pro
Thank you man for these great videos

im using this to play parasoul in skullgirls
People still play that?

what makes chun li not much of a charge character? she has a back and a down charge special.
i guess it's the fact that she isn't totally charge based. CA and instant legs are fireball motion
Yeah back in the day all her moves except lightning legs were charge. Nowadays it's just fireball and SBK
Yeah totally agree. ST was probably her most charge-heavy version, since other than legs, every one of her specials (and her super) were charge in that game
thanks man
I'll give your channel a look
Charge it UP
The tiny crabs in the water are distracting.
i never could get the hang of Kagura from blazblue.

If people jump over you a lot, jumping straight up and hitting them out of the air is usually pretty solid
