DUDE!! That's a GREAT tip. Easy enough to pull them and wire brush them and or lightly file the surface and re-install them. Maybe stretch them just a tad while you're at it. Free fix. NICE!!! Thank you for this video! My 2004 runs like a dream, but I'm watching videos to see what kind of problems I may run into in the future.
I recently purchased a 2007 Honda Pilot with 78K miles on it, purchase inspection indicated nothing majorly wrong with vehicle. 3 weeks after purchase, engine light turns on. Miss fires codes in all 6 cylinders. I changed the Spark plugs for NGK and old Spark plugs didn't indicate oil leak issues, which is a good sign. Engine light went away for a week, but came back with Miss fires in all 6 cylinders again. The engine light sorta flashed initially and stayed on. Before I spend money on new coils, I'm a try changing the springs as you did. I called O'Reilly Auto Parts and they have a kit $36 or you can buy single springs and boot for little over $6. I'm doing this over the weekend and will report back. Thanks for making this Video! 👍
@@robertcuevas7372, After writing the conment above I figured to just clean the old metal springs in the coils rather than spending $ on something that may not work. During the cleaning process I had to remove/detach the Springs from the coils and put them back in, but the Spring were pretty much loose/No longer attached to the coil. The process took about 2-2.5 hrs. The Pilot started no problem, the engine light was off for like 5 minutes, but then it flashed on/off and it stayed ON (SOB). I ended up buying all 6 new coils and replacing them, and the engine light did turn off and stayed off for about 2 weeks, but came back on. It would stay on for a number of days and then it would go away on its own (The Ghost engine light syndrome others speak off). My Pilot is at 83K miles, so I ended up getting a valves adjustment at a shop and that took care of the problem. Note: The shop would have changed the sparkplugs and Coils as part of the recommended valve adjustment. Thus, I saved on labor costs by doing those my self and deciding the quality parts to use. I hope this helps.
Thank you!... solved my misfiring, surging P0305 problem on 2007 Pilot LX with 141k that had VTM-4 and engine dash indictors on. Also took a shotgun approach; replaced plugs, these coil springs and boots, EGR valve, flushed trans fluid and replaced rear\front diff fluid, and injector cleaner in a fresh tank of 92 octane - cleared the codes with an OBD II scanner, runs like a champ. Thanks everyone
Amazing, it's a miracle my first car a 1966 mustang could even run with not having all the cheap crap these newer vehicles have , 50 plus years in the future my big tough truck is puking over a penny worth of spring
OMG !!!! I finally found a video that solved my misfire I also own a Honda pilot I cleaned my Egr cylinder, throttle body air intake I mean the whole nine yards .except this damn.
But couldn't we have also solved this with just new coils?? I am having this same issue but i have replaced, coils and spark plugs, and egr. I can't figure it out and neither can any mechanic I have brought it to.
I replaced the plugs with nonfake OEM replacements and did the coil pack rebuild kit as you did. Afterward, I had a lot of misfires. I pushed the springs all the way down to seat like the originals came out. Getting the springs seated all the way down was was kind of tricky to do. I may have compressed the new springs too much. I will go pull the new springs back out, stretch them a bit and try again.
This is the best advice in the comments. The intake snorkel (rubber accordion section between air filter box and throttle body) are notorious for developing cracks after it loses its pliability. That will cause a massive vacuum leak and a misfire on all cylinders. Think about it…what is the likelihood that all 6 springs on the coil packs simultaneously went bad? Not likely. A vacuum leak, however, will cause all cylinders to simultaneously misfire. Check for vacuum leaks first before doing all the coil pack springs.
So a bad ignition coil can just be the coil on plug insulator, i.e. contact spring and rubber boot? Would you expect these to be present as well in 2015 lexus rx350 ignition coils? Seems like if you've determined a bad ignition coil, by swapping one for cylinder not throwing code with one that is, you'd do this inexpensive repair test before stepping into buying completely new ignition coils right?
So.... a silly question...and I apologize if it has already been asked. Instead of buying new springs, why not soak the old ones in vinegar? It should clean all the corrosion. I get that you should also change the boot. But this would allow you to either isolate the issue or continue to look. And you can decide to change them afterward. Now to be clear, you did a great video and really helped to identify a problem spot, so please do not take my question in a negative way.
I have this problem and haven't attempted a solution yet, but I wonder if part of the problem is also the boots themselves if they are cracked and allowing things to short out... In other words maybe their job is to insulate the spark and they are failing as well.
You have your cylinder numbers wrong. The are 1,2,3 and the back of engine left to right and 4,5,6 left to right on the front. By front and back I'm referring to the back at the firewall and front closest to bumper..

Lol. I'm fucked bro. Blown headgaskit for sure making it misfire water in the oil. If I put water in, its gone in about 3 minutes. It's parked somewhere right now but won't be able to stay there. I'll have to sleep outside again.
I habe the same problem with my 06 Pilot. I take it to a local mechanic, he said it was some carbon stacked somewhere, so he cleaned, i ended replacing a Timing Belt kit.
Still have the same issue, i want to replace all 6 ignition Coils and spark plugs, but im afraid that it might not be the issue. DONT WANNA TAKE TO DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE THEY CHARGE 120 ONLY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC.
I WANT TO TRY THIS,, BUT
where did you get thoses Springs???
I can't find them Anywhere.
Any help please. 🙏
Valve adjustment
I bought them at O'Reilly Auto Parts. They gave me an option to either buy the ignition coils or the springs separately.
@@justinhartl8071 what do you mean the scheduled valve adjustment at 100,000 miles?
