      Hope your day is going good.
      I wanted to ask if its fine to drive a 3.0 v6 with one of the sparkplug not working. Technically its not misfire. Its the whole time. Loss of power. Head gasket is good no smoke coming out. Is it fine to drive my car with 5 cylinders working and not one? Also could it be a lose wire or distributer?

      All that unburned gas could wash the oil off your rings and get into your crank case. A master mech once told me that after getting a low compression reading... said the oil from misfire washed the seal off the rings.

    Hello Scotty, last weekend i had a warning ( check engine ) . I checked my engine with the ODBII and had a code P0300. I replaced all 4 sparkplugs and now my engine works great and have no warning signs. I did another check with my ODBII and have no faultcodes.
    With the help of your video i saved a lot of money and my engine ofcourse. I made also a testdrive and everything is smooth...So Scotty thank you for your great tutorials. Gr.Marc from Belgium.

    If the Audi was pre-2009, it's most likely carbon build up. The FSI engine is the most carbon build up prone engine ever. It was VW/Audi's first turbo 4 with DI. The engine wouldn't be wearing out, those are solid engines. But as you said, it did lose quite a bit of compression.

    I got a 2001 pathfinder for free because of the p301 code it turned out to be a $150 fuel injector. Its got 255K on it now and it runs like a champ. I've always had good luck with chevy pickups and ford pick ups,a always run them to 300K no problems but now I see that japanese cars can run to 300k even when you abuse them and don't take care of them. In Iraq our unit had these beater land cruisers we used to drive around to the gym or dining facility, never changed the oil on them, I bet they haven't been maintained for years in that 130 degree heat but they ran decent unlike the 2011 ford f150 that blew its engine our last night in country. My LT had us leave it in a field with the keys in it.

    Hi Scotty. This video helps me a lot, I mean, after all research on UA-cam and internet, I came to conclusion that my Nissan Pathfinder 1999 with more then 212 k miles on it, actually getting to the end. The last step left for me to check is compression test. I did almost everything to fix missfire on cylinder nomber 3 with code PO303 and also PO300 as wll which is one of the worst codes one can get. ? Spent good amount of money to replace O2 sensor, EGR valve, spark plugs, wires, brand new fuel enjector for no, 3 ., also I replaced both valve cover gaskets which is pain in a butt expecially driver side undr the plenum. . I've had some confidens in myself and I beleived if I do all that I may fix it, . After all that I did test the car and nothing has changed. The car still shaking when on stop and cant drive up hill more then 35- 40 mph. So I will do compression test and if it's too low, I will sell to junk yard.

    I fixed this problem on my 2003 A4 last night it was fuel injectors. I changed out all 4 and the problem went away instantly. I had already tried the plugs, coils,and was about to do the PRV and PCV valves. I think oil leaking out of the dipstick tube got into the injector wells and over time seeped into the injector housing of cylinders 2 and 3. Watching Spectre in the theatre made me rush to get this job done so I can go driving at high speeds again. Thank you Daniel Craig!

    Is it the direct injection the problem causing wear because the intake ports are clogged with EGR/blowby crap ?

    • @mcappleish
      @mcappleish 10 років тому

      before the gas goes to the intake, there is a Oil/water separator, right? I am not sure if catch can works, I think it is a scam

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch 10 років тому

      No,only on diesel fuel system.
      "catch can" are for gas engines only.
      They work if well designed but there are not from factory on cars.
      That's why i think it caused wear on this engine.

    • @ggaudin1
      @ggaudin1 10 років тому

      I believe the trouble is that the gas is injected directly into the combustion chamber, thus making the intake valves and the piston in the compression cycle work only with air around them. Though it may look rough, gas for a part plays the role of coolant and lubricant in an engine. That's why you got to choose wisely your gas and not just take the cheapest, for your valve's sake

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch 10 років тому

      Ok.
      i agree,same problems on diesel engines : the intake valves are full of blowby /egr deposits.
      but here the loss of compression is not only caused by leaking valves no ?
      cylinders/pistons wear ?
      too much heat ?
      What wore out ?

    • @ggaudin1
      @ggaudin1 10 років тому

      michaelovitch
      piston rings ? because of compressing air without fuel ? diesel fuel is greasy and may be sticking to the cylinder walls, but not gasoline ?

    There seems to be a lot of unnecessary Audi bashing here. These cars are complex and require diligent maintenance. There were obvious signs of neglect in this car: the "Service!" warning was on and spark plugs were filthy.
    Since the first owner would have had their service done under warranty at the dealership, I wonder if the second or third owner actually did proper maintenance. A competent mechanic would have alerted them to the "gunk" on the spark plugs had they been replaced every 3 years according to the manufacturer. More importantly, how frequently was the oil & filter changed and/or topped up?
    P.S. The the engine has 152k miles...hopefully the timing belt was already changed!

      yes Audi's use timing belts. they're a pain in the ass to get to b/c you have to dismantle the entire front end of the car. it's one of the worst designs ever. so if you're ever doing a timing belt service on an Audi, replace any and all wear & tear items in there. bc if it's not bad at that time it will go bad eventually and then you'll have to take everything apart all over again.

    Good tips Scotty but you missed a few possible causes. I pulled a spark plug from a friend's car that was getting the P0301 code and the spark plug looked good.
    1. It could be a bad ignition coil as you said.
    2. It could be a bad fuel injector or bad electrical connection to the injector.
    3. It could be a bad intake manifold gasket.
    4. It could be a bad spark plug wire.
    I worked on other issues (P0410 code & trunk lock) on his car and haven't got around to this problem yet.

      Like Scotty said, changing the old is a good thing. Also, the older German engines were better quality and made to last. my mercedes 190E 2.6 has 215,000 miles and runs like a champ, and I can pull a plug and it'll be so shiny you'll see your reflection lol

      Well it all depends if the person took care of the car properly or not, Sometimes people who guy those Luxury German cars or Luxury cars in genral forget that regular maintenance greatly improves your car's life span.

      HyralProductions I bet that you are not driving a post 2000 german car.
      If you would, your 318i would have shat itself a long time ago.
      Modern cars are disposable. You buy it. Drive it until the warranty expires and sell it to next poor soul. Even though materials are stronger and more wear resistant then ever, the engineering is intentionally flawed or better said geared towards costs and efficiency rather then longevity.
      Nothing would outlast a 70's merc engine. Just look at the very appraised BMW 2 litre diesel, fitted to most of their cars since 07.
      They moved the timing chain towards the back of the block and it fails quite often.

      @ShaunMMX 10 років тому +2

      Tyrone Ross except alot of cars in the late 60s, 70s, and early 80s were crap.
      Also with new cars now, not all of them are throw aways, it depends if someone's willing enough to keep the car after 5 years or not.

      Scotty Kilmer Scotty have a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro
      turbo 1.8 L and I have already replaced the housing for the ignition coil connectors. I am not sure if the ignition coils are damaged but when I replaced all the pins and the housing all the wires were either damaged or broken. Soon I will need new wires for the system to work properly but like you said I will start with the spark plugs first. It is running real rough and got this when I went to my local auto zone:
      P0300 random/multiple misfire detected
      P0302 Cyl 2 misfire detected
      P0171 fuel system too lean cyl bank 1
      P0011 ?A? Camshaft position timing over-advanced bank 1
      P0301 cyl misfire detected
      The first connector had all wires broken and I spliced them together but seems like it didn't work, what is best to do?

    • @bigstuntnsp

      Juan Higareda I might be a little late but. You might have faulty wires to your computer or bad crank shaft sensor. But it could be a bad timing belt.

  • @watcherwatchmen7785
    @watcherwatchmen7785 Рік тому

    My problem is I tend to over-analyze the problem. I kept thinking it was the coil or the wires leading to the coil, because the wires harness plugs were so deteriorated. I had to re-pin them, but that didn't solve it. Guess what it was? The spark plug gap on cylinder 1 was .004" from some numb-nuts dropping it on the ground. Of course there was a misfire, there was no gap. Check your spark plugs! Much appreciated video Scotty!

    What other issues might cause a misfire on Cylinder #1. My son has a 1997 Kia Sportage and we've replaced all the coils, plugs and wire and no matter what we do, after a short drive it comes back with the check engine light and P0301 on C1. Compression test on the engine came it right on spec. Also replaced all the fuel injectors.
