I agree with comments. Mick Tucker was a superb drummer. This can evidenced all over the 'Give us a wink' album in 1976, particularly on the tracks 'Cockroach', '4th of July' and 'Yesterday's rain'. What a talent. He passed away far too soon.
SWEET deserves to be remembered as a great musical and influential band. Great songs, great musicianship and very talented writers as well as performers.
It's cuz Sweet as a whole is underrated. Compared to their importance in their time and domestic market, it seems globally and over time they've been overlooked a bit...

Yes he was. Just as Lee Kerslake (Heep) or Andy Parker (UFO) or even Darryl Sweet (Nazareth) remained too little known (though appreciated by those who know). Mick knew how to keep time precisely - something Keith Moon wasn't sometimes capable of. However, stubborn and repeated showing him swirling a drumstick in his fingers does little to justify it. This really isn't a great trick to master and his repertoire was vastly bigger so one shot of this would suffice.
Finally some love for Mick Tucker! I believe part of the problem with Sweet in general not getting the respect they deserved was being called a Glam band. They rocked hard. Just listen to Into the Night.
They didn't get respect because of the "trans thing". No one who was buying Led Zeppelin albums and going to their concerts wanted anything to do with crossdressers, and their band name didn't help, either. The Sweet's music was a lot better than their image.
As a yank that i can why that image didn’t go over here. Terrible name. Terrible outfits even tho it’s glam. Nobody had star power either. I saw a short doc on them years ago.
Mick Tucker's was and will a rock legend. Great drumer, unforget, supernatural talent; Mick Tucker's lefted a mark in the history of rock. He was the soul of the Sweet band. (in my opinion)
Being a drummer, I always looked forward to playing Ballroom blitz. It is technically challenging and exceptionally inventive drum track & highly difficult to reproduce. I am grateful to modern drummer magazine putting an article out on him. Afterward, I took a deep dive and realized he was one of the best ever.

Saw Mick and Andy on the Sweet`s `85 comeback tour. A regional hotel in country Victoria Australia. Played for 2hrs and Mick was never short of a beer. A roadie kept replacing the empties on the speaker box next to him. Great player, wonderful independence and constantly overlooked. Man with the Golden Arm and The Six Teens are standouts.
I still maintain to this day that Desolation Boulevard is one of the greatest albums of the '70s, pure driving rock and roll from start to finish! Ballroom Blitz, Sweet FA, No You Don't, Fox On The Run, No You Don't, I Wanna Be Committed, Set Me Free. Wow!

Mick was an influence on me. When I heard Ballroom Blitz I was in awe, and bought the 45 record. I love playing it on drums to this day. And, without Mick, there would be no Tommy Lee.
It's clear that he was a huge influence on Tommy. If I remember correctly Mick played with his platforms on which is something that most drummers wouldn't have dared to attempt.
Mick was one of the first inovate drummers in rock, who made drums become more famous and popular. I was told once, that Micks drumset was one of the first ones, that was ever taped on isolated multitracks in the recording studio. Is that true?
The singers downfall, bar fight , drinking, bad luck etc... cut this amazing bands life/ legacy short. But honestly, fuk em, People who missed it, some folks don't even know they wrote fox on the run, Sweets, right up there with zep, the who, Queen, etc... Sweet was a decade ahead of their time. I started listen to Sweet in mid 70 ies as Kiss didn't measure up the drum play to Sweet! I still think so now, Mick Tucker has a own style & are a really great drummer! RIP MICK TUCKER!!❣🤘
Exactly ! A deliberate feature which always worked so well I think. Early producer Phil Wainman was a drummer too, so maybe that is why this was encouraged.

Even as just a beginner on drums, every time I'm listening to Sweet, I keep thinking, "fuck, this drummer's underrated!" ... Just now i was listening to Desolation Boulevard and had to stop and see what i could learn about the guy...
maybe it's not important but is somebody knows when Mick switch from 1 to 2 bass drum drumkit, i know the career of the band for sure and i'm an experienced drummer for near 50 years by the way but now on retreat ...always love the playing of Mick ?
Great drummer though my one gripe with him is his influence on all those American drummers of the 80’s and 90’s his stick twirling, hi-hat barks were heavily borrowed but anyone who has seen his solo which has a great jumping off point The Man with the Golden Arm the one where Frank Sinatra mimed to the great Shelly Manne and does a pretty good job too will know he had a lot more in his armoury than a simple pattern like Ballroom Blitz and he incorporated a lot of different patterns in his solo as well triplets he was adept at the crossover triplet common in jazz but in rock circles made famous by John Bonham but one area he was especially skilful was the alternating flam and he would move them around the kit and with the two bass drums underneath had this nice flowing triplet feel with the flams speeding up and playing that cleanly is not easy and one of a few drummers outside of Louie Bellson to popularise the use of double bass drums along with Cozy Powell.
He was the second great Drummer (after *Peter Criss* 1975) ❤ I'd seen Live in marquee Club, London 1976 playin' a fantastic Version of 'The Man with the Golden Arm' ... Unforgettable, R.i.P., Mick!

If I see what is leftover now on stage these days, I can appreciate that they try to keep the name alive and yes, its ok to make some money, at the same time it really hurts very bad to see and to listen to this blurred copy and at the same time always have the original sound, loud, clear and crisp like 50yrs ago in your head. Maybe it would have been best to let the name Sweet rest in peace after the split.
My favourite drummer after Bonzo. He could REALLY play. Why isn’t he given the recognition he deserves? Sweet were musically miles ahead of the likes of Black Sabbath and I think that had they been able to play The Who’s Charlton gig in 1974 they’d have blown The Who offstage for sure. As for Queen, they were the public school reply to the Sweet and ripped them off, citing instead Jimi Hendrix as their main inspiration, something I have enormous difficulty taking seriously. Brian May is no more than a scratchy version of Andy Scott. Sweet should really be where Queen are now but I think some people higher up in society saw to that. Then in the 80s the Taxman took the Sweet to the cleaners, leaving them broke and on the cabaret nostalgia circuit. It should have been so different had there been any justice. I think they were made an example of to deter other wannabe musicians from adopting a similar attitude to their music and their relationship with the inland revenue. The lack of recognition for the talents of Mr Tucker and the Sweet is little short of criminal to my mind. RIP Mick, Brian & Steve.

My favourite drummer after Bonzo. He could REALLY play. Why isn’t he given the recognition he deserves? Sweet were musically miles ahead of the likes of Black Sabbath and I think that had they been able to play The Who’s Charlton gig in 1974 they’d have blown The Who offstage for sure. As for Queen, they were the public school reply to the Sweet and ripped them off, citing instead Jimi Hendrix as their main inspiration, something I have enormous difficulty taking seriously. Brian May is no more than a scratchy version of Andy Scott. Sweet should really be where Queen are now but I think some people higher up in society saw to that. Then in the 80s the Taxman took the Sweet to the cleaners, leaving them broke and on the cabaret nostalgia circuit. It should have been so different had there been any justice. I think they were made an example of to deter other wannabe musicians from adopting a similar attitude to their music and their relationship with the inland revenue. The lack of recognition for the talents of Mr Tucker and the Sweet is little short of criminal to my mind. RIP Mick, Brian & Steve.

As with Smokie, another excellent band with great vocal harmonies, the Chinn and Chapman influence lost them respect with the pop shite.
Amazing drummer..I’d put him above a lot of the rock “greats” …and I know that a lot of the great rock drummers like Ian Paice and Jon Bonham took a lot of influence from him !
