There is incredibly little content about Spyker on UA-cam, so this is a real treat. Spyker has always had a special place in my heart. They never tried to go too fast, be too sporty, they were just lovely art pieces that looked beautiful and every detail was well though out, and covered in leather and that wonderful turned aluminum. Fun story: back in the day, Rick Hendrick (of Nascar fame) opened a Spyker Dealer in Raleigh North Carolina USA (Raleigh nicest car dealer at the time was a Mercedes dealer...no other exotic dealers till years later). It was there for a few years in the same building they sold Hummer out of. They never sold one car, and were open by appointment only, but they had a few cars on display over the years. It had Spyker furniture that was made with the same materials and was just amazing. A bright orange quilted leather couch! Wish I knew what happened to those pieces, would love to have it in my house. The Spyker platform they used to park cars on still exists now in a side room at the used car dealer in the same auto-park.
I remember them filming a promo video in my neighborhood in the 90s and they let me sit in the car. It was so bespoke and aeronautical that it has stuck in my mind ever since.
You're definitely my favourite car UA-camr. There's an element of geeky/nerdy to your voice (the way you talk about things and react to things). It's really great. I've been watching F1 since 1980 and I love your podcasts with Paul too. Keep up the good work Sam!
@@seenthroughglass Watching it then reviewed on top gear really cemented how wicked they are!! Also the recent content has been fire! So depressed you'll be going back to 1 vid a week after this wicked road trip!!
I remember seeing a spyker for the first time at the london motor show in 2006, I loved them then and I adore them now. One day hey. Thanks for indulging me.
I saw one of these in Kentucky in a Porsche showroom when I just got out of high school. After falling in love with this car in Test Drive Unlimited and then seeing it in real life. Hardly any car I have ever experienced has made such an impact of craftsmanship and beauty. If I ever won the lottery, this would be the 1st one I would buy. One of the greatest of all time and should be restored to the fullest of glory. I hope infinite success to the future of Jesper and Spyker! Cheers
Nulla Tenaci Invia Est Via - for the tenacious no road is impassable That says everything about that brand and Jasper, I've loved this brand from day one! And I'm so happy you went to see this amazing place!!
Was driving to FoS once, must've been about 15 years ago, and remember a C8 blatting down the motorway past me - absolutely mental sounding and looking thing. And the prices were insanely (comparatively) cheap back then. Such a sight to behold.
Spijker originally was founded in 1880 building airplanes and later in the early 1900's started building cars, they have a beautiful collection in the " Louwman " museum in The Hague
I've been lucky to see just a few Spyker's in my life and thankfully got to see one on the move. One of my all time favorite cars and so glad to see Jasper's collection and even workshop keeping these beauties alive! That Blue and White one is just a real stunner though! Best looking one I've seen!
I’ve always marvelled at Spyker’s for their attention to detail and the quality of materials and machining of parts are in the same vein as Pagani, the engine of the C8 might not be massively powerful but I’ve always loved the sound of the 4.2 V8 that Audi supplied
I’m a huge Spyker fan, so awesome what Jasper is doing and a great video made about it all! I remember seeing a B6 once at Goodwood, maybe even this car! And I fell in love. Thanks for another great video Sam!
I lived in Harderwijk which was super close to Zeewolde where Spyker was located. A guy in my street was befriended with someone who worked at Spyker so I was allowed to sit in it multiple times and had a short ride as a passenger once... Cool experience, awesome cars, probably the worst management decisions possible...
Thank you Sam. Had no idea this place existed until this video. Always wanted a Spyker and so happy to see this keeping them alive. Great content as always.
What are true piece of art the details that shifter oh wow and the engineering that must’ve gone into making that concept to go on the road just incredible thank you so much STG for taking us for the ride amazing I don’t know what it is but I am in love with that GTR I just love them V8 bi turbo keep up the amazing work Sam love your 360
Hi Jasper! Nice to see the progress you've made. It was a lot of fun to see the inside of the garage again ... especially the C8 with the MC12 paint scheme...what a stunner!
I've been a massive Spyker fan ever since seeing Jeremy's review on Top Gear. I still haven't ever seen one. I hope to be able to afford one some day. Great content as usual. Thank you.
Wow! What an amazing privilege to drive that Spyker concept made real! Tony made a great point on the real cost of making cars. A good topic for BTG someday, how we value cars based on a perspective skewed by mass production... If VW Golfs were limited run cars, of just 1000 in their most basic spec, how much would each one cost? Could give some perspective.
I remember playing test drive unlimited 2 and it had a saloon Spyker in the game, I think it was called a D8 or D12 something like that. Was a super cool looking car and was my favourite to drive around in.
Since Top Gear. I’ve been madly in love with Spyker and appreciating their F1 and Le Mans efforts but sadly I think the purchase of Saab ultimately killed Spyker.
Spykers are amongst the few mid-engined cars I actually like. The attention to details on the cars are just amazing. Nice to see that someone is taking care of the legacy of the brand. But he has put the wrong engine in the B6. Cause it was supposed to have a 3.5 V6. The same engine as Lotus used in the Evora, Exige and Elise. In the 375 bhp spec. But a really nice video though. Keep up the good work. Edit: Changed V5 to V6
@@iaintdonknow Yes it was based on the Artega GT platform. But in the spring 2008 Spyker and Lotus did go into a partnership to share technology. So Spyker was supposed to have start using the same engines as Lotus. Sorry I had written V5 instead of V6 engine
Yeah, a C8 was featured in the movie ‘War’ with Jet Lee & Jason Statham. I always wondered who the car fan was that decided that… had to be a hardcore car enthusiast.
Me as a dutchman, have always loved the designs of Spyker! Unfortunately I never really hear something about the brand, I never really understood why they are so rare and went bankrupt. Really love them
THIS IS AWESOME I'VE BEEN OBSESSED WITH THE VENATOR AND PRELIATOR SINCE THEY WERE ANNOUNCED, AND I COULDN''T FIND ANY INFO ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE COMPANY!
Man... The C8 is just stunning. Just the other day I was watching "War" with Jet Li and the main char drives a silver C8 Spider. Beautiful. And despite parts being hard to get. I suppose the drivetrain is not that hard to maintain, it's basically a RWD R8.No?
E-Spykers will come back! Somewhen....which would be great. Ideally a combination of great craftsmanship and new technology, could be also from Audi Etron GT underneath. As you both were driving out of the little garage...was thinking good that nobody knows where it is. The garage value is 10 Mio €? I would call this review a "Unicorn" great job, you rock as a team.
piece of engineering what a brand it went out of business but they came back like bugatti mg rolls royce and tvr nice to have tony keeping them alive they are dutch like donkervoort daf vanderbrink ruska and the carver and the savage rivale a small brand like noble and koenigsegg and pagani ariel w motors and apollo
With pure ICE cars going away, maybe having a few ol' school boutique brands kicking around is nice. It'll be interesting to see the direction the company takes.
These cars are true art pieces, love the effort they put into their interiors, similar to Pagani.
Absolutely! Insane engineering
So true its like jag being the poor mans aston
Pagani copied Spyker
Spyker was iconic on Test Drive Unlimited 🙌🏻

Very interesting story!
They never sold one car!?

@@bentleyspotter Haha that's amazing, really typical Spyker
Thanks for this anecdote. Very interesting indeed!

Very cool! Love a Jet Li movie
a local dealer had a C8 Aileron and a Laviolette when I was a teen and OMG those things were soooo cool!
they've aged magnificently well!!
I remember seeing these cars in a car book my mom bought me in the mid 00's. They still look cool!
They still look amazingly cool and are awesome to drive

Thanks for showing us Jasper's work! It's incredible and I love to see someone out there keeping Spyker alive. They were way ahead of their time.
Absolutely astonishing attention to detail and hats off to jasper for continuing the brand. Just shows where Pagani got their ideas from
This video should’ve been like an hour long, I love spykers and have never seen one in person but they’re amazingly cool cars
Spyker is truly one of my favorite brands since the c8. I just wish there was more of them!!

I view every Spyker as automotive art. Great to see someone create a business to keep them alive. Beautiful stuff.
I was lucky to see one of these on display at the Sarasota Classic Car Museum in Florida a couple years ago...Stunning cars!
