Do yourself a favor and spend a little more on the Moen spout. I wrestled with the Danco for an hour. Took it back and had the Moen installed in 5 minutes. Super simple.

This is such a poor design but I finally got it working with the help of this video. Holding the inner sleeve with the screwdriver was a bit tough at the end...there really should be a special tool included that can fit between the wall and the sleeve or they just need to redesign the whole thing so it isn't so difficult. I'll add that the telfon tap should be put on the outer sleeve threads before you test the diverter out....I don't think my leak behind the spout was the o-ring, it was the gap between the outer sleeve threads and the diverter.

Thank you very much. I installed one of these about 5-7 years ago the o-ring finally gave out and water started to come out everytime the shower was on. Bought a new one to replace and I have much more experience now with tools and DIYing things. I now realized I put it on the wrong way and much more difficult. Thanks for the video again.

This was a great tutorial. Thanks for your help. My problem is bit more complicated. I don't have a straight piece of copper pipe coming through my wall and will have to get behind the wall to complete the needed repair. Iyt looks like I will need to extend my pipe to be able to install this faucet.
My former spout was a thread on spout. After using the monkey wrench to uninstall it, it just partially broke off because it was that corroded and stuck (my spout issue was the diverted was stuck in shower mode, and we left it like that for years because everyone only showers anyways).
The copper pipes stub was sticking out 4 inches long with a now damaged male thread join that was soldered in. I ended up cutting 2 inches off, needed to install my universal spout (without threading to the copper).
Thanks much! One small detail missing. The size of the hex key to remove the hex nut on Moen faucets is 5/32. Took me forever to find the right key.

Nice try. I installed one of these, and had constant leaks. I called Danco, actually got really good customer service, and troubleshooted the issue. Turns out the rubber gasket does not sit properly when the adaptor is put on the copper pipe (compare how it fits on the adapter when it's not on the pipe--it has to fit snugly into the groove, but it's hard to tuck into that groove after the adapter is put on the pipe). Hence constant leaks out the back. Customer service is sending me another whole assembly, so maybe that will work better. I'm surprised you didn't turn the water on in your video, that would have been revealing. I'm also surprised you didn't caulk the hole where the pipe comes out before you put the spout on! That's going to leave some damage behind the wall if there are any leaks.

I bought this kit about a month ago and something to note is that it does not come with the same style adapter parts now. So you may find this video does not match the most up to date parts or installation instructions.

What the hell? 😂 Why? If for some reason his water doesn’t turn on, that has NOTHING to do with what was shown in the video. Same for even if he did turn the water on, again- the water turning on doesn’t have anything to do with this. Its not like pipes were cut, blocked or interfered with. No water was shut off, nothing involved with the actual water flow was performed during this spout replacement. You can turn the water on with NO spout and fill the tub as long as your pipe protrudes out far enough from the wall. If you don’t know these common sense facts then please don’t attempt your own tub spout install 😳🙄🤦🏻♀️

The Danco kit I bought did not include the metal ring shown in the video. The kit number was: #10315. I'm toast if this isn't fixed today.
Can this be used on galvanized steel spout?

I am having a problem getting the hex screw to line up with the slot to loosen it. Suggestions?

This unit is a pain to install. I have no idea what you did with a "tiny screwdriver" but the slot keeps moving on the copper and the holes never line up. What's worse is not tight enough to keep water out. This is a problem from the mount moving oune the copper when you tighten the neck. Just never worked for me. Very disappointed with this product.
How much do it cost?
Does it matter if my original tub spout is 5in and I bought a 6in

Is it just me? But when I got the chrome it doesn't come with nothing but the extension nipple, but the nickel comes with the extension nipple and o ring, adapter, and the retainer?
I just did mines. But now watching your video confuse me. I did not did all the extra desembling steps you did. Althought i guess my universal spout is a little different as i had to use an alan wrench instead.
But any ways after cutting my copper stub out to 2inch and cleaning it as necessary, it was a straight forward installation. Pretty much like this, slip on plastic tube to copper pipe, lock it in, and screw on spout until it touches the wall, and then caulk as necessary.
Already working as it should, with no leaks yet. Hopefully none for a long time.
Danco instruction sheet says to turn so screw is on bottom then tighten!!
Yep make sure to put it on the bottom! Had to break my spout to get to the screw to unmount it thanks to these instructions
Can’t you just use half inch copper with a male adapter and a coupling in this case

@@lookoutman The only problem I had? When I turned the faucet at the end of the procedure. The set screw did not align with the open space. I had to place my head under the faucet. While having my screw driver help me guide the set screw to the bottom.
@@56strine Using a hand mirror is easier than turning upside down to see underneath. Saw that on another video.
The set screw should be in the six o’clock position!
It will be in the 6 o'clock position as you screw the spout onto the adapter.
What about silicone?
mine leaks everywhere.... also no way to tighten the thing onto the adapter when it will just turn all over the place... water coming out where the screw goes thru, also scratched up my water pipe because I couldn't get it back apart and that screw scraped the pipe....this is a bad design. not sure why I am having trouble with it it seems so simple but mine is now far worse off than it was.
ok update! I got it correct, the part where he explains to put something behind it while you screw it on it important, I was thinking that would make it so that it wouldn't end up all the way to the wall, that is not the case, you can keep the adapter out a little ways enough to have something behind it to press out against it which allows you to tighten it enough then get your home and screw aligned (it doesnt have to be directly on top I did mine slightly to the side so that I could actually get a screwdriver in there. then tighten the spout on and the spout will go right to the wall. all is well now even though I did scratch my pipe up a bit it isn't scratched in the spot where the gasket is so no leak.
My spout wont get flush w the wall. The is a tiny space. When I test it out water shoots out from the sides. Fml

The problem I had is not seeing the set screw. We couldn't turn the spout. ZERO channels actually cover that process.
Great video. The instructions didn't make sense so I came to UA-cam hoping to find instructions and I now have a working shower again. I will say that I cannot believe the manufacturer didn't pre-drill the hole for the collar screw. I'm old and had to get out a drill as I couldn't punch it though. Will definitely not buy Danco again.

The fix is to not screw in the screw until you put the first plastic piece with the slot, the o-ring, and the extender. Tighten up the 2 plastic pieces with the o-ring in the middle while on the pipe. Notice where the slot is. Now ignore the marked spot on the extender and put the hole in the extender so that it goes into the middle of the slot. Mark the pieces with a Sharpie and take apart and put in the hole and clean it up.
Push the extender against the wall. Then install it with the screw sideways, not straight down. Carefully tighten the set screw. Now you have a threaded pipe to screw the tub filler onto.
Put on some Teflon tape. Screw in the tub filler. If it doesn’t end exactly where you want it, put on more or less Teflon tape and try again.

Def isn’t universal bc I bought it and it does not fit a Delta brass spout adapter.
I AM VERY….VERY ANGRY…. Of course… every last danco installment video isn’t the specific one I have. You’d think I’ve looked everywhere and found nothing. I’m at my limit. Of course in everyone else’s videos they have the metal part with the skrew but of course mine is plastic and looks completely different.

No effin way it’s that easy. I’m looking at replacing mine and the hardest part, I see already before starting, is removing the old spout. That thing is really attached. Hopefully once I do remove it putting one of these universal units on won’t be as difficult.
Then again…one never knows until one makes that giant leap of faith in oneself to fix it right.
The hardest part was actually lining up the screw through the plastic.
