One of the most important aspects when using thread tape, is to make sure that you wrap it clockwise, otherwise you may have trouble with a leak, and not always straight away!!!

If you wrap it anti-clockwise it will munch the tape up and It will leak in time. When wrapping the tape make it is reasonably tight and wrap it around the thread at least 6 to 8 wraps on a 15mm or 20mm or 25mm thread:

This might be a weird question but is there any possibility that the set screw could wear down the copper pipe? I'm afraid to change my tub spout because of that, but the spout has a huge 5 mm gap from the wall right now after I removed the old caulk to redo it.
I like how they show corrosion on the spout but dont explain that there is probably galvanic corrosion happening because different metals are making contact somewhere along the way. I just learned about dielectric unions after having to change out a huge part of my system due to that

Some say is ok to use on copper pipes, but others say the acidic content of silicone will react with copper and damage copper pipes. I was thinking about uisng Acrylic Latex Caulk plus Silicone which has very little silicone , Can you please share your thoughts!
I'm in search of a water restrictor for my bathtub spout to help slow the flow of hot water because I have an instant hot water heater and it does not get hot enough for us. Slowing the water down allows it to get to a higher temperature.
@1:54 another reason why you might not want to use a strong tool is cause you might snap the copper spout line from the T depending how old the plumbing is
Did you wrap the teflon tape on backwards? Kinda sums up knowledge at home depot in my experience ....they pick up PART of the trade they service but that other part? LOL never know what might come out of their mouth
So I installed a new tub spout in my shower (shower diverter at end of spout). After a couple attempts at tightening it down, I've got it so no water leaks out the back when the diverter isn't engaged (water coming out the spout), but when the diverter is engaged, a small amount of water leaks out the back (from the bottom, where it's designed to go if there is a leak). Since it only leaks with the diverter engaged, I think it's just a function of it being cheap and the diverter not making a perfect seal. Since the spout is designed with a space for water to escape at the back/bottom, I feel like this is fine. Dies that sound right?
No sir. It's probably leaking from one of the two adapters that come with it at the end of the spout. Use the tape in that connection as well. Now you won't have a leak that could make it's way into the wall. Unfortunately, it will also cause more pressure that will send the spout off the stub because of a base screw that can't hold the spout to the stub. Fix it now before there is too much water getting into the wall.
I've come across an issue where my spout has a hole for a set screw but there is no screw, I try to twist the spout off but it doesn't give. I fear that if I try too hard that I may damage something. if I try to pull it straight out I can feel the whole thing move along with the pipe behind the wall as well as the knob about a foot above the spout. any ideas? or am I just not using enough force to break it free? We have extremely hard water so it may be 'locked' on with calcium. I just don't want to force it and do damage behind the wall and have an even costlier issue on my hands.
@@LongTimeTTFan I did not. I used brute force to pop the diverter. It works but doesn't hold a seal. 'Still comes out the spout' but is good enough for the wife to use. I got it to that point and then turned up the music so I couldn't hear the problem. I'm sure it'll take some work in the long run but not today. You probably looking for legit answers and I'm sorry that I don't have them. Though the recommendations that I've gotten are...super hot water to help joints expand....wd40 to try and break things free, or soak it in CLR. Trouble with the clr is that it will eat plastic. Mine is a cheap refit so I figured it was just chrome plated plastic, which is why I didn't try it.

@@LongTimeTTFan I work at a big box home improvement store as a stocker. I know just enough to be dangerous but also ask as many questions as I can. After years of stocking, just the other day I noticed a replacement 'valve' for the diverter. It's just the handpull piece the plastic diverter itself and a washer. Have not had a chance to ask about it yet but it seems that it is easier to 'rebuild' the diverter instead of replace the whole spout. Again I don't really know anything about these things, I only go off of what is told to me and what makes crazy sense in my mind.
Believe me, that universal spout will slip off as soon as you pull the diverter for the shower. The screw will not hold to a straight stub (no threaded adapter) no matter how much you tighten it.
Your guy wrapped the Teflon tape in the wrong direction which will cause it to unwrap when you screw the fitting on. Teflon tape has to be wrapped in the same direction as the fitting is tightened (clockwise looking at the fitting). Pretty basic stuff
I wish my spout came off that easy. Mine doesnt have a set screw so it must be a screw on. Tried using my hands and it won't budge. It sure wiggles alot, though. I'm just afraid I'm gonna break the pipe it's so old. Wish me luck!

Why did you apply the plumber's tape in the WRONG direction? It goes on clockwise.
That's the way to do it! If you go clockwise, the Teflon Tape will tear off! The tape won't work for a nice tight fit!

Pure silicone plumbers grease is perfectly acceptable but never use anything else even if it states it is okay to do so on copper pipe.

If it leaks where the spout meets the wall, it is probably an o ring on the internal cartridge of the spout.
Dont buy pfitzer tub set from depot. Looks corroded like that after two months. Now I have to replace the whole trim set

You'll find silicone in the caulking section of your hardware store. Find the ones that 100% silicone for "kitchen and bath."
