Hello . I was watching a video on how to replace a bathtub spout and saw your comment . I want to pass on some info . I to moved to an older home and have had issues with clogging and slow drains . This has worked for me . Lowes sells DAWN Ultra Heavy Duty . Its very concentrated . I raise the temperature on my hot water heater to very hot . I run the hot water for about 5 mins . the hotter the better . afterwards I pour DAWN right in the drain while the hot water is running . I have used the entire 56 oz in the kitchen sink and i have to say it has made a big difference . I have a quick drain again . Now i do it to bathroom sinks and tubs . this really removes the build up oils and grease with in the pipes . avoid getting this DAWN on your hands it takes for ever to remove and dries up your skin . good luck

Wow that’s easy! I’ve put a leak off for 15 years. Knowing it wouldn’t fix itself. But just didn’t know how to tackle it. Thanks for your video. Following you!
Uh, yeah...same here. Not quite that long, however, when we bought the house new they put the cheapest crap in here including all the faucets and tub stuff. House was built in 2005 and already had to replace every faucet in here pretty much including kitchen sink and faucet, 3 faucet fixtures in the bathrooms and now this 1 tub spout im going to have to do. I wish they wouldn't do that to us and just put something in that will last.
Ive replaced these 3times in this house weve lived in for about 9yrs. The first two were in the first five years, after putting on the third one i asked everyone to pull up the diverter before turning the water on thinking it would help from wearing out and its now been 4 yrs and its still going strong
Also we had terrible water pressure in the shower for the first while we lived here, fed up one day i accessed back panel where the shower pipes are and with the turned all the way up i went up and down thr pipes rapping on it (forcefully but not excessively) with a wrench and knocked some sediment loose and increased pressure by easily 300%, wifey was pleased and i got to act like i knew what i was doing the whole time lol

instead of caulking, I prefer a round foam rubber seal between the wall and diverter, slightly wider than the diverter diameter. It will be compressed and form a positive seal.
If it leaks when turned off that will be a control valve issue. So you will need to take apart handle(s) and replace either cartridges or sometimes on certain ones can just replace rubber washers. If take apart and take pictures can show to hardware or plumbing supply store. Theyll be able to point you in right direction for part
Jonny, why would my tub spout with diverter leak out the back when I engage the diverter? Cannot seem to find a solution to this, but I noticed that the replacement package has a notice not to install if water leaks out the back. Suggestions?
The connection inside the tub spout must be leaking and it backflowing. So taking it off or installing a new one with plumbing tape and or plumbers thread compound should be good to fix that issue. You just dont want water backflowing into and behind the wall
Jonny watched your video to change the sprout very good I have a question my sprout does divert water to the shower but water leaks from the sprout even when the valve is closed
A little bit of water leaking is normal when diverter is closed letting water out of the shower head. If its leaking a bunch may need to be little bit tighter

That's a Delta faucet system. Got any plans to do a video on a Kohler, Moen, Pfister, or El Cheapo tub/shower fixtures? You are the only youtuber who is not ashamed to use masking tape while caulking. Party on, dude.
That very simple and VERY important piece of advice has never been mentioned in the hours of watching videos. I just unknowingly bought the wrong size. Thank you!!!
Hello Jonny DIY. I watched your video. I'm having a hard time unscrewing the spout. It seems that it is crooked, which may be the reason for a clean screw off. What can I do? Yes, I took off the caulking between the wall and spout.
If it's one like mine in the video where it's threaded onto a pipe you may just need more leverage. A large Pipe wrench should remove it without any problems although it may damage it. But if replacing no worries. Can try spraying some wd40 or similar, but you'd probably have to drill a hole in side to get it onto the threaded part
Great video! But when I took off my old diverter spout (screw on bottom) I saw that the pipe does not have any threading on it so I don't know to attach a new one. Help! The pipe is smooth.
I have a question. I put in a new spout and everything then when I started my shower the water shoots to the back and in the wall we're the copper pipe is i don't know wat to do

@@JonnyDIY I have been trying for 3 days to get a bonnet nut off, I tried a wrench strap and maybe am not using it correctly because it has yet to come off, I also tried DW40 and today I poured vinegar on it and no success. @@pennygirl99 yes those get stuck on good. Try using a monkey wrench. Sometimes you have to heat it up with torch too. Sometimes if you tighten it a little first itll break the seal and loosen easier
@@JonnyDIY Ok I am gonna try to tighten it, It is so nerve wrecking because I now have the part but the nut is a headache. Do you think I may be using the wrench strap incorrectly? I was told to buy it with the part for the bonnet nut and I tried it and nothing lol
You need a special spout that has the connection for handheld built into it. If you already have it, its same process to install as this. Then connect handheld shower to it 👍
@JonnyDIY I have one, but the pipe is too short for the spout. It leaks out the back...I am thinking to use a compression adapter to help add length. Also because the copper pipe in my mom's bathtub doesn't have grooves
@@maliksherrodofficial2985 ohh ok. If copper pipe I usually just solder on a threaded end. You could also cut pipe and put a sharkbite coupling on and add piece copper to end of it if want to keep the spout that just clamps on with set screw. And yes you could also try a compression fitting with threaded end too, just be sure to check and make sure it will fit inside of spout
@@maliksherrodofficial2985 k good luck. If solder be sure to tigh wet towel around base of copper pipe so doesn't overheat and loosen joint behind tub wall
Would this also fix a non-stop dripping from the tub spout? Or is that something I need to turn off water, remove knob, change out thingy? (professional term used by new home owner LOL). Thank you and great videos!
@@JonnyDIY Thank you! I actually found your site when I was trying to find out why my fridge was clicking. Tomorrow, I'll be breaking out the vacuum. And searching your site for all the other things that I need to figure out! LOL
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. It ended up being the cartridge that needed replacing. It had been stuck on there for so many years, the plumber broke out the 2' foot wrench and struggled with it for 20 minutes before it came off! Glad I did not attempt it myself LOL Good luck!
My hot water faucet makes a loud squealing noice when turning off the faucet? Would the problem get fixed by changing the entire bathtub spot/diverter ? Thanks for any advice.
But if I remember correctly Ive had a spout that made the funny noise too, and that can be fixed by replacing spout or taking it apart and cleaning and possibly replacing seal
Seen some of this videos and they should emphasize how important it is to remove the caulking around the tub spout before attempting to turn it ... I almost broke my pipe... happily copper is so maleable it twisted and there was no break nor leak... please pay attention to that first (life or death-of the pipe) step (I see this guy did... I am so stressed & I refuse to get a plumber that quick because I have the cartridge and my female cousin and a sister did there own by folliwiing instructions from youtube, had this nut been off my problem would have been solved by now. 🤬I wanna thank you for replying to me, I hear theres a can of something that may work I forgot the name but I dont wanna keep buying stuff lol and the NUT is still stuck
@@pennygirl99 is it a circular bonnet? Or have anywhere can put regular wrench or large channel lock pliers. Need some leverage
If 5 things can go wrong in a house, 6 of them have to do with water.
Stupid question, should I shut the water off for this? Since it’s not technically the on/off valve?
Not a stupid question. Water doesn't need to be shut off for the spout. Only if working on the main tub/shower water control valve 👍
Looking for solutions. Trying to install a spout similar to this but one for a handheld shower. Any tips?
@@JonnyDIY gonna try tomorrow. Will try and remember to reply
@@maliksherrodofficial2985 k good luck. If solder be sure to tigh wet towel around base of copper pipe so doesn't overheat and loosen joint behind tub wall
You should always protect the drain with a towel below so things don’t fall in
Great idea, I sometimes forget the simplest things especially when I'm filming videos 👍
Would this also fix a non-stop dripping from the tub spout? Or is that something I need to turn off water, remove knob, change out thingy? (professional term used by new home owner LOL). Thank you and great videos!
Yes that would be different. You would need to remove knob and replace rubber washer or cartridge . Depending what style faucet you have
@@JonnyDIY Thank you! I actually found your site when I was trying to find out why my fridge was clicking. Tomorrow, I'll be breaking out the vacuum. And searching your site for all the other things that I need to figure out! LOL
Lol thanks for checking my page out. Hope it helps 👍🏻
Possibly if you can pinpoint noise better may help. Sometimes that is more caused by the mixer valve
I saw other videos that don’t acknowledge that important step)
Thanks for sharing Lorenzo, good point! 👍
