#plini #saltandcharcoal #septupletgroove
thanks for making these videos man, I'm not a drummer myself but watching someone dissect the songs this way makes it a lot easier to understand what's going on!
Thanks for your compliments, what do you play Toby?
I don't even play drums but I always wondered why the rhythm in the guitars feels so simple yet the beat feels so complex and restless. Great video!
Plini is becoming one of my favourite artists, thanks a little to you, super good video!
Well he's my favourite prog guitarist right now, I can't wait to do more of his Sunhead ep!
Maaan these are the best drumming explanation videos Eva!
Well goddammit you can play guitar now too
Just a little :)
I love the quality and effort you put into your videos, man. I hope to see substantial growth in the upcoming months. I’ll be sharing your channel as much as I possibly can.
That will be SUCH A BIG HELP to me Matthew, I'm absolutely honoured that you would do that to support me!!
This is my favorite song written this year, I think it's absolutely brilliant. And Chris Allison's drumming is incredible. Great video as usual man!
Right on! I'm loving Plini's evolution as a player and a composer, every new song he dishes out always manages to keep me riveted. And I often need more than a few listens to understand the song, just like a deep book or movie, where you understand and learn things you didn't notice the first few times through. And that to me is a hallmark of a great song. I might do another Plini video before the end of the year if I have the time :) Meanwhile, this video shall go out to you Chris.
Recently discovered Plini. Love this song. Great job explaining. Thanks!
Hey thanks for joining my Faction!!! I truly appreciate it :)
Thank you for your video!
I was literally just starting to learn Plini's whole new EP and it helped me a lot!
Whoa the whole EP, that's a tremendous effort, I salute you! I'm just glad to be of help to your cause!
Thanks!
It already took me a whole year to learn the Handmade Cities album and some other Plini songs (by ear and without double kick, since i didn't have any double kick pedal back then :/ )
So, your recent videos about double kick exercises will definitely help me now!
It is always so impressive to see how all these great drummers like Troy Wright and Chris Allison achieve it to learn so many songs in such a short amount of time!
For example, considering that Troy not only had to learn about all of Plini's songs, and WRITE ( / wright ;) ) the drum parts for Handmade Cities, but also so much stuff from Intervals, David Maxim Micic, Nick Johnston, as well as Amity Affliction!
And all that while still occasionally uploading some drum covers from other bands!
Chris also had to write the drumparts for the Sunhead EP and learn Handmade Cities in a very short time to be able to tour with Plini!
And, of course, not to forget YOU, who is so disciplined to learn some of the most difficult drum patterns from a variety of bands out there!
HAT TIPPED!!! (especially due to the fact that you even seem to play guitar as well!)
If you would learn bass additionally, you could probably cover almost every prog song out there yourself!
I am learning a lot here, thank you Wei Lung
Hey I appreciate it :)
Hey I have that same Jackson. Great 7 string for the price. Awesome video as always
Hi 5! Well I can't afford anything more expensive truth be told, the only expensive piece of gear I have in my studio is my drumset because it was something that I couldn't skimp on. Thanks Spencer! I assume you're mainly a guitarist?
Love the editing on this one
I'm always trying to polish my filmmaking skills, good of you to notice, thanks Haiven!!!
Wow! You sir are a beast! I'm glad you commented on my last video! Your videos are top notch! Subbed and looking forward to your videos :)
I subbed to yours too :) Thanks for the support Sir!
Awesome video! Great editing and your instructional technique is to the point and easy to understand. Keep it up!
Glad you like it Jose!
awesome THX
Thanks for creating this video! Super interesting and fun to watch
Just started learning this song and I know this is going to help massively
Wow, you're planning on doing a cover? I never learnt anything more than just the main groove, hope it goes well for you!
wow! Great analysis!
Thank you Ian!
Awesome! Thank u very much.
You're welcome!
This is rhythmic concept idea is great. Could you make a series out of this?
Hmmm let's wait and see Ryan ;) thanks for the encouragement!
Congrats for the video!
Short&quick but goes very deep and focussed.
I enjoyed it.
Glad you did Ivan!
This is great,!
Thank you!
You’re incredible brother. Keep this shit up
Solid!
Thanks!
I really love this channel. Keep it up!
Thank you Dave!
Great work! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you my man!
Bro. Great break down man.
Thanks Adam!!!
Thank you for this; I have been racking my brain trying to figure out the timing on this track! You make it seem so simple, which I suppose it is...
It actually isn't that simple to be able to play it but understanding it, we all can and I'm glad you were able to from my video :)
I've been watching your videos for a little while now, and I really respect you man! Even the editing skills, etc are getting even better.
Thank you so much Ben :) I really appreciate you reaching out to me, it's very encouraging!
The feeling is mutual brother! ^_^ @@ArtOfDrummingHQ
Any chance of doing a video on blushdas? Specifically how matt gartska utilizes them. A good example is his newest vic firth performance.
I don't have any plans to talk about that, unless I can come up with a different perspective or concept on it. And all requests go to my elite Patron Faction, it's one of the rewards for supporting me on a deep personal level. Thanks for asking though!
Dude your videos are great, keep up the good work! Super inspiring and informative :D. What software do you use to slow down faster prog songs to transcribe them out? Im trying to figure out some of matt garstkas drum parts and its taking me eons XD. Thanks.
I've got quite a few Matt Garstka videos on my channel, on "The Woven Web", "Kascade", "Ectogenesis", "The Brain Dance" and "Inner Assassins" check them out, they might help.
I slow down the songs using my DAW Ableton, you can also try a free app Tempo Slow on iphone or android. Thanks for your comments Ethan!
Hey man Ive been following your videos for a long time and learned the off time beat in Constant Sleep with your help (thank you lmao). The intro to Gratiude by Car Bomb is a complex beat id like to see you tackle.
I'm glad that helped you! If you really want to see me tackle that though, you'll have to join my Patron Faction because I only do requests from my Patrons. It's a reward for their financial support to my channel :) Thanks for following my videos!
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ Fair enough brother, one day I'll get on there. Thanks for the quality free content!
That means a lot to me that you would consider it, and all my educational video content will always be free no matter what happens :)
oh my god
Hmm? What's up Jun Ye!
Art Of Drumming HQ I mean you are so great! By the way,do you speak Chinese?Just look like you have a Chinese name.😬
Awesome video ! But for the next ones can you turn up the volume of your hi-hat cymbal ? It is difficult to hear it ;)
Oh oops okay I'll be sure to triple check the hihat balance in the future, thanks for pointing that issue out!
Loved the tutorial! I'm not a drummer, but I was wondering if you had a way of quickly counting? What I mean is, I can't think "1-2-3-4 1-2-3" as fast as it is being played. How do I keep track of the beat? When I'm listening to the song I try to count along to the septuplets, but I just can't keep up
Yeah it's way too fast, it's the same even for 4/4. We wouldn't try counting all the 16th notes if it were fast. But we learn to catch the quarter pulse or the rhythm or the backbeat, so you can try catching all the 1s only and feeling the subdivisions. Do it repeatedly in practice and then it'll get more natural. Hope that helps!
@art of drumming would you do an analysis of Octopus - Ethereal Mind (Into the Void Of Fear). And ALL TOMORROWS - Immanence. (Both are Chilean bands).
Hey Rene! I save requests for my Patrons because these videos are really hard to make and I can only give priority to my patrons, perhaps you could consider being one? Thanks for following me on YT for over 2 years anyway!
Art of Drumming HQ Things are kinda hard in Venezuela. But I’ll save money and become a patreon soon. You truly deserved it you are an amazing drummer and you explain everything so well and clearly
I'm sorry to hear that, please look after yourself if things are hard. Don't worry about becoming a patron soon. If you are in a better place in the future and still want to support me, I'll be doing this for a long time. All the best to you Rene!
am i only one here waiting for new Haken to be released and then see the lessons here? :)
Even if you are the only one, heck that makes you unique spukin !
Who writes the drums for Plini? Plini himself? He has said that at an earlier age he learned drums but this is insane
I have no idea, but I think even if Plini writes the initial drum parts, the drummer would have stylized it.
I love the song, but the drum is impossible for me... Good video! :)
It's impossible... only for now. Since you love the song, you'll be super motivated to practice to play it because when you do manage to play, it's one of the best feelings in the world. Thanks for your compliment :)
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ thank for the motivation bro ! I'll try it
