    I bought a "Sn-Om" IMMEDIATELY after talking to Mr. Lewis on jamcruise. This was years ago now. He credited Sput then too. What a nice guy and fantastic drummer. Thanks again for taking the time to chat with me.

    Crazy coincidence. I bought a 14 x 8 snare today and that's exactly what I wanted to achieve with it. I just didn't know yet, which heads are best for this purpose. Now I see this video :D Really helpful!

    Finally someone shows playing their SNOM as an actual tom too! It seems to fit in pretty perfectly actually, I don't notice less sustain really!

    Great advice that would have saved me HOURS as I was setting mine up!
    One tip when picking a drum for this: make sure the snare throw off has a long drop, otherwise you’ll have the snare wire jangling when you lay into it with snares off. I had to adjust mine (Mapex MPX) to where the adjustment knob is backed all the way down for off, and almost all the way up for on.

    I'm an absolute beginner, although I've always had a love for playing the drums. Larnell Lewis is such a great inspiration to me! Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and I plan to set up just like Larnell when my skills build up.

    The first one of these I watched was the Enter Sandman video and I was convinced it was a floor tom of a different colour. Never noticed that it was actually a snare. I like how he gets such a great sound out of such a low tuning with it as well.
    Edit: Mike Mangini uses I think it's a 10' hybrid that doubles as a high pitched rack tom.

    This Guy!!- significantly influences my style and set up to the way i tune and even shop for drums. I went with a Tama Metal Works 6.5x14 black nickel snare with red Evans hydro. Snares off sounds like a full kinda earthy quick mounted 14 tom: snares on sounds like the snare from "Rock With You" I freakin LOVE!! Thanks for the tip Mr. Lewis

    Can anyone recommend a specific resonant head? He mentions certain ones to avoid but doesn't give examples for which would work well.

    two function pieces are a great tool for creativity. if you've got a remote cable hihat stand, check out putting two big crashes on it in a ride position and alternating using it like a ride and as an aux hat
