This dude is one of the best guests Drumeo has had. Super engaging. I could watch him play and listen to him drop knowledge (and encouragement) all day!
There's something fascinating about watching people talk about their area of expertise with passion and eloquence even if you don't get it. I have no idea what he just said, but I feel fulfilled :) Same with most of Adam Neely videos...
I bought a "Sn-Om" IMMEDIATELY after talking to Mr. Lewis on jamcruise. This was years ago now. He credited Sput then too. What a nice guy and fantastic drummer. Thanks again for taking the time to chat with me.
Never clicked on a drumeo video faster. I’ve been waiting for this since I first heard What About Me? years ago! Thank you Larnell and Drumeo for an excellent educational video.
Crazy coincidence. I bought a 14 x 8 snare today and that's exactly what I wanted to achieve with it. I just didn't know yet, which heads are best for this purpose. Now I see this video :D Really helpful!
Not even a drummer but Drumeo clips are a pleasure to watch. Larnell Lewis is a beast, his knowledge, musicianship, and communication skills are impressive.
This guy is a great teacher. Seems like a great person, love the vibe! Just do you, but check this out!!! Ego free drum community at its best. Thanks for keeping the vibe alive Larnell!
Great advice that would have saved me HOURS as I was setting mine up! One tip when picking a drum for this: make sure the snare throw off has a long drop, otherwise you’ll have the snare wire jangling when you lay into it with snares off. I had to adjust mine (Mapex MPX) to where the adjustment knob is backed all the way down for off, and almost all the way up for on.
Thank you so much for this video !! I so love when you say that : "Find the setup that is confortable for you ... Find the sound that is confortable for you .... Whatever what inspire you ... do it ! Take the time to explore .... and experience ...." Larnell Lewis That's so inspiring ! I love the way you share your techniques, your inspirations, so much feeling, it gives so much joy, desire to explore, to find new stuff, to live music from the heart ! Thanks :)
ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!! I’ve asked for this specific video in EVERY Larnell Lewis video I’ve watched. And to do it in the Drumeo platform......... 💯💯💯 I am so excited for this! Can’t wait to try it out. Thank you Drumeo & Larnell for this! I can now play & die happy Tee-Hee ✌️😜
Yes!! I've been looking for this since the first time Larnell did it on Drumeo, i've got that same exact drum so now i've got to try it, thank you for making this video
I'm an absolute beginner, although I've always had a love for playing the drums. Larnell Lewis is such a great inspiration to me! Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and I plan to set up just like Larnell when my skills build up.
Killer outro groove! The lesson for me is, try to incorporate and hear things that aren't 'normal' but perfectly serve the music you play and what you hear.
The first one of these I watched was the Enter Sandman video and I was convinced it was a floor tom of a different colour. Never noticed that it was actually a snare. I like how he gets such a great sound out of such a low tuning with it as well. Edit: Mike Mangini uses I think it's a 10' hybrid that doubles as a high pitched rack tom.
This commercial has me hooked. I want to experiment with one of these! This is a novel idea like the cymbal on the snare that Larnell, JT and Sput do. Love it!
This Guy!!- significantly influences my style and set up to the way i tune and even shop for drums. I went with a Tama Metal Works 6.5x14 black nickel snare with red Evans hydro. Snares off sounds like a full kinda earthy quick mounted 14 tom: snares on sounds like the snare from "Rock With You" I freakin LOVE!! Thanks for the tip Mr. Lewis
Larnell is such a great teacher. I'd love more videos or full courses with him. Can anyone recommend a specific resonant head? He mentions certain ones to avoid but doesn't give examples for which would work well.
two function pieces are a great tool for creativity. if you've got a remote cable hihat stand, check out putting two big crashes on it in a ride position and alternating using it like a ride and as an aux hat
Guess we all need to start practicing major scales on our snares now 6:34
Ha! 😅😅😅 Thanks for watching. Love your videos BTW! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Ari Hoenig brought me to this conclusive understanding about 8 years ago.
@@LarnellLewisMusic 😂 Appreciate it man. Keep on killin!
I think it's time for you to make a snare drum out of a 16" floor tom. 👍
@Larnell Lewis Music @rdavidr do you think a hazy 200 reso could also work or is it to thin?
This dude is one of the best guests Drumeo has had. Super engaging. I could watch him play and listen to him drop knowledge (and encouragement) all day!
the guy probably thought he would encourage to play, not to watch :)
I don’t play drums but I like watching him explain things.
same
Haha same same same...
Same here 😂😂😂

Same.

The song is of course "What about me?" - my absolute favourite!
When i saw your comment i jumped quicly to my play list. Lol!
That low snare in the groove always popped for me. I thought it was just a floor tom 😂 so crazy
That song is insaneeee! Snarky puppy it’s out this planet
Awesome video. When is Dan Mayo coming in to explain his crazy set up?
Mine tooo
This outro groove is proof why Larnell is one of the coldest out there.
Suddenly I'm wearing mittens indoors
Never clicked on a drumeo video faster. I’ve been waiting for this since I first heard What About Me? years ago! Thank you Larnell and Drumeo for an excellent educational video.
Larnell is so knowledgeable and cool. I really do believe he's one of today's greatest.
Amazing vídeo as always
Agreed - thanks James!
Out of all the videos drumeo could make this is the EXACT one I have been waiting for for about 4 months now. Thank you!!!!
This fill forced me to like the video 4:27
That last beat with the hand on the main snare! Amazing.
Finally!!!! I wanted this video since the last time he went to Drumeo
Cheers Jonathan!

Ego free drum community at its best. Thanks for keeping the vibe alive Larnell!
This new group of musicians for this day and age is the only thing giving me hope in this wretched world
Larnell "It's just a vibe" Lewis
Orange
Soo good to finally get heads and tuning info for this.
Larnell is one of my favorite drummers. I really like his style.
Finally someone shows playing their SNOM as an actual tom too! It seems to fit in pretty perfectly actually, I don't notice less sustain really!
Larnell has lost a lot of weight! Well done brother👏🏾
I honestly have not recognised him right after the video started. It took me a while to readjust ;P
Thank you!
For real I noticed that and his hair looks so cool on him
@@LarnellLewisMusic Hi Larnell Mr. D. here. Glad for your success. I remember the jams we all had way back. You are always awesome! 👍🎸
He stopped laying down those sweet tasty jams and switched low cal more nutritious jams
Great advice that would have saved me HOURS as I was setting mine up!

Holy shit that jam at the end! So sick
I need this foot speed in my life. One of my favourite drummers. Love learning from Larnell. Right off to practice 😌
I don't play but this is so interesting
Mr. Lewis is one of my favorite modern drummers. Love his take on things and his willingness to educate others.
awesome! that beat to close the video combining playing the main snare with his hand and right sticking the tom snare and other accents was sweet

Man! I realy love the way Larnel Lewis shows you how it works and to give it a WIRL :) it’s inspirational!
Every percussionist @ 7:51
"Am I a joke to you?"
This is the drum nerdiness I've always needed
Yes!! I've been looking for this since the first time Larnell did it on Drumeo, i've got that same exact drum so now i've got to try it, thank you for making this video
That setup was so cool and unic and the drum beats was really great
OMG that kit sounds amazing

What a guy! Such a nice way of explaining and teaching
From now on, you are one of my favourite drummers.
This video is loaded full of useful information. Fantastic video!
I have those exact same Firegrain sticks! Absolutely love the look and feel of the 5A pair
This is the equivalent of Benny Greb giving away all his secrets for his floor tom sound
I believe the secret is coated resonant side head and with some cotton balls inside? Recall watching it in some interview somewhere lol
MARTIN LMAO Hahahaha
Wait, is there a resource on that?
VERY VERY NICE LESSON Lewis👍🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Killer outro groove! The lesson for me is, try to incorporate and hear things that aren't 'normal' but perfectly serve the music you play and what you hear.
love this kind of sharing knowledge...
thanks drumeo and larnell...
Cheers Ryuu!
Professor Larnell Lewis 💯
Great idea and the implementation is very well done!
"That last groove though". Wayne's World old school "we're not worthy"...for sure.. :-)
This man is one of the greats! Can’t get enough of those greasy sweet grooves...
Yessss! The vid I‘ve waited for! Thank you! And the groove at the end!!! ❤️👍
Sput changed the game with this idea
One of the most skilled, talented and musical drummers out there. For me the best!!
One of our absolute favorites as well!
@@DrumeoOfficial You should check out Manuel Reina, from my country, Spain.
Beautiful
4:30 I didn't know Phil Collins was making a guest appearance
That'd be Phil Collins in his dreams, on steroids.
Love larnell lewis especially since the last time played a new track without hearing it
God I just love Larnell Lewis. What a guy, he seems so friendly
Thanks Drumeo, I bought a Tama 14x8 SLP steel snare a while back trying to replicate Larnell sound and this video was really helpful :)

Thanks, Joe!!!!!! Good to see you on here!!! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
I use Evan’s Hydraulics on all of my toms... I just love the huge deep sound they make.
musical, clear, eloquent, virtuous, sympatico........ ! nice!
Thank U for all ur knowledge 🙏👍
Larnell looking much healthier. Very inspiring man!
Thank you!
The Yamaha bop kit comes with a floor Tom snare hybrid. Amazing kit
Watching these guys play on brand new coated heads looks so damn pleasing...

i had this idea like 10 years ago but i have never seen anyone do it until now. Awesome
OH MY GOSH YES
Thanks for the info this is awesome! 👏🏼 didn’t know about the snare head on the bottom 👌🏼
I love the last beat that he is doing
hes so fucking good
Thanks for the secret! I can’t wait add this to my kit.
SPUT PUT THIS ON... I'M GLAD HER GAVE PROPS. DEFINITELY A MOVE I TOOK FOR MYSELF THE DAY I SAW IT
I play open handed and just bought a 14 x 8 snare for this reason. Really pumped to try it
4:30 ... classic!
One of the sickest drummers around
LARNEL is a genius
Larnell is just lovely on screen.
Amazing!!!!
you just opened a door for me , that hand on the snare with snares off and a conga type sound yes thats cool thanks Larnell Lewis
I'm a simple man. I see Larnell, I click.
It fits perfectly with the other toms, how is that even possible
two function pieces are a great tool for creativity. if you've got a remote cable hihat stand, check out putting two big crashes on it in a ride position and alternating using it like a ride and as an aux hat
Snarcky Puppy is a life changing band and this man is one of the best drummers I've ever seen
