Regarding the orientation of the snare wires - it is a classical percussion thing to have the snare wires straight across from near to far from the player perspective. The idea behind it is that you get similar snare response as you go toward the edge of the drum for lower volume or distant-sounding playing (alá Lt. Kije or Scheherazade). If you angle the snares sideways across the snare, if you move to the far edge you get less snare response. You can’t just play off to the left or right because the rim will get in the way of the taper of the stick closest to the rim when playing at very low volume. I don’t know if this is why it was done in this case, but that is why I orient my snares that way.
Good one! I didn't know that. I was thinking that orientation also helps keep snare buzz to a minimum, since the most sensitive areas of the resonant head are as kept as far away as possible from the toms next to it.
Very happy to see a video about Larnell Lewis's sound. He is my favorite drummer! I will use this episode as a guide to make my drum kit inspired on Larnell's Setup. Thank You!!!!!! Great video!
What i think is that pascal is a Freaking Beast! He ALWAYS NAILS IT! ..You guys did a fantastic job on replicating the science and the sound that larnell laid down on "We Like It Here" Great Video Thank You Art Of Drumming
I like the snare with the cymbal on it. Might try that with my old snare. Drummers are so imaginative and innovative, it's nice to see some of the things they've thought of and try them yourself.
A How to sound like Sleep Token would be Phenomenal. Especially ii‘s snare sound and his iconic muffled toms would be cool to see being recreated by you.
A video about Harvey Mason's sound on Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters album would be great! The drums sound so lively yet controlled, just perfect for that album.
4:45 What did you use to hold the splash on the clap snare? Is it your custom made or not? If it not, is there any link to the product? Thanks Anw shoutout to Pascal n team! you guys were always made awesome videos🎉
Amazing work once again guys. What a fantastic channel. The drum sound was awesome. Personal opinion - on Shofukan the drums are drowned out by the horn section and other instruments far too much. I could hear the toms but I want to hear the articulation of the cymbals and snare and let that kick sing a little more!! It's worth it after all the work you put in. Again, great work. P.S Did you do the vid RE; larry Jnr?
I always put a muffling ring on the inside of the reso head of my snom. It makes it extremely punchy. With the right tuning i could use it as a second bass drum
You're a fool. This is clickbait right? Shows how ignorant and naive you are as a musician.. Larnell and Snarky are amazing. Where have you been sleeping 💤
I CAN'T REALLY GET INTO THESE RECORDING SOUND OR MUSICAL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC I GUESS I'M YOUNG WITH A VERY OLD SKOOL SOUL I GUESS I PREFER JUST SOME PLAIN CLASSIC 5 MAN BAND OF LIKE MILES DAVIS IS JUST KIND OF MUSIC OR THAT SAYING "LESS IS MORE"
Someone who quotes Miles as what they prefer just shows how much they really don't know about jazz and music. How marrow minded you are of all the incredible bands of the 70s and modern day that had stacked musicians. So much funk, jazzfunk, world music, soul, afrobeat etc. You are missing out. The use of capitals was really IMPORTANT TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS. If you can't appreciate Snarky Puppy thats your loss dude.
Come on bro, cover Radiohead or Dream Theater drums. Don't let there be too many unknown bands, it's rare for me to see covers of these 2 bands here. I'm sick of waiting so long 🤦

I love this channels break down of head choice, tuning, cymbals, muffling, mic choice & so much more! 10 out of 10! TY & keep up the great work!
Larnell might just be the best drummer of our generation. He’s just such an advanced drummer and does exactly what he needs to do for the music
Him and Colaiuta are the two best drummers of the last 40 years
larnell is insane. one of best drummers today for sure. I love his style. great video :)
Dang y’all, great work on this sound and episode! Pascal dude, you’re a beast. Killer job with the covers, can’t wait to see the full Lingus video!
Its crazy how they manage to get the drums this close to original. Mind blowing, keep it coming lads 🔥🔥

Yes I love snarky puppy 🐶 😊
PLEASE do Aaron Gillespie from Underoath! His sound is so unique and revolutionary

Amazing job guys!!!
Thanks for the insight ...
We need a Gojira drum sound video. Mario's drum sound is just incredible and for months I've been trying to find out how to get that sound.
This video is soooo good!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I love the sound of the snare and toms, great job! Which snare of the three, you ask? The "normal" high tuned crisp one!
4:45 What did you use to hold the splash on the clap snare? Is it your custom made or not? If it not, is there any link to the product? Thanks
Anw shoutout to Pascal n team! you guys were always made awesome videos🎉
It's called a Drumgee, you can buy online.
YOU GUYS SHOULD DO SPUT!!!! THAT WOULD BE SICK
That hihat sounds so great ❤
Amazing job!
Sounds great!
I would love to hear the recreation of Jon Theodore!

P.S Did you do the vid RE; larry Jnr?
Please do a dave Lombardo episode! DAVE LOMBARDO ! DAVE LOMBARDO!
How’d you tune reso snare on main snare. Great vid 👌🏽
Demo of toms icluding the snom 6:50
In a next video could you recreate the sound of Peter Chris from Kiss? Please, he was one of those who inspired me to learn drums.
I always put a muffling ring on the inside of the reso head of my snom. It makes it extremely punchy. With the right tuning i could use it as a second bass drum
Please do Chris Allison of Plini!
It’d be awesome if you recreated Stephen Morris’ drum kit from Joy Division/New Order
Also, Michael(League) likes dark cymbals!
Waiting to hear the China efx splash stack… 👍🏻
I like snom sound best👍
Nice but next time how about Ben Bevan from electric light orchestra
Sounds awesome, next one should be jeff buckley grace sound
I heard Larnell has his kick batter head barely tightened up at all, it's floppy & the lugs finger tight.
Please John Densmore of the Doors!! 😀
Will you do Tommy Lee of Motley Crue?
Pleeaaaase do either max/mike portnoy, (drummer from knocked loose), or neil peart, i think it would be so awsome
Do Ginger Fish
Daniel wagner from greta van fleet next plz. day 1 of asking
Do one for Breaking Benjamin's drummers
Larnell Lewis uses YAMAHA DRUMS (not SONOR), EVANS DRUMHEADS (not REMO), ZILDJIAN CYMBALS AND VIC FIRTH
Yeah! I might get a Yamaha drum set in the future
Snom
NEVER HEARD of HIM or the BAND ! CAN'T B VERY GOOD
