Not bad for a drummer who sings a bit! :) Anyway, we are talking about one of the best drummer living!!!
Phil joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He did some backing vocals to the singer, Peter Gabriel, and also as the singer on 2 tracks up until 1976. Peter Gabriel left 1975 after the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour and the search for a new singer began. After MANY auditions for a new singer, the band decided that Phil would be the new Genesis singer. They released the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail with Phil Collins on vocals and drums. For tours they hired an additional drummer, Bill Bruford and in 1977 they hired Chester Thompson (the other drummer in this video) who played on tours. He also played almost every Phil Collins solo tours.
Phil Collins is one of only three artists that has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a group. The other two is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.
A busy drummer who sings a bit!

This song was actually released in the early 80's, and did very well but didn't get the respect that it deserved on the charts. A couple years later, when miami vice came out, and they used it the opening for the the show, it charted for a second time. This time it went MUCH higher on the charts. This one of very few songs that have made back into the top 40 after falling out the first time, and specifically doing better the 2nd time around. This is a total masterpiece. Undisputed.

This is the best staging of the live performance Phil did aa a drummer and singer (Paris 2003) . The layer by layer of the various instruments and Phil’s paced walk around the entire stage was just masterful.
You do need to find videos that have been posted from Phil’s 2016 to 2019 tour where is son Nic takes over as the drummer (started the tour at age 15 and as 18 when the tour ended. If you just listen, you can’t tell the difference. Genesis (the band) has made
Nic an official member, and they’ll begin a Genesis tour n late 2021.

Yes, she left with the guy for Canada with his two kids and their dog. Phil stopped Genesis and left to bring her back. Didn't work. So I think this is his fantasy of meeting up with him and having it out. 'I can feel it' and 'you don't know who I am' lines now make sense. Powerful.

@@rk41gator I believe his wife's lover was their interior decorator, so maybe Phil hadn't met him, if his wife was 'handling' that side of things while he was on tour. When Phil did this song on TV for 'Top of The Pops' with bitter irony he used a folding workbench as a keyboard stand, and had a large pot of paint sat on one end. It would have have made no sense to anyone but his wife who would have got the reference, wonder if she ever watched that performance.

If I remember correctly, Phil said when he went to Vancouver and met the guy saying he got along better with him than he did with his ex. So the song is not reality. I think he channeled his rage at the situation into song but not at the people involved. Phil damaged a vertebrae in his neck which has put him in a wheelchair for 75% of the time and he can sadly no longer grip his drumsticks or hit the bass drums for any length of time.

Does your wife ever “open” her eyes? Yes, the song itself is great but if you “actually watch” the video you’ll have a whole other experience rather than sitting there swaying back & forth.

She probably wanted us to see her cheap false eye lashes, but besides that, she missed the whole performance

I'm sorry to ask,but is that girl on something....or are the eyelashes just too heavy to keep up for more than a few seconds at a time, hardly any response to the greatest drum drop/intro ever,at least the guy was into it.

Love the stink face at the drum break. I think you need to look at the lyrics; his voice is soothing while telling the darkest story.

What was the point of her being there? The whole point of a reaction video is to react to it. She spent most of the video with her eyes closed so she missed key power moments. Disappointing 👎
