      Yes Clark. I hear what you are saying in this video and I agree with your very wise insights. As a mental health therapist I would like to say that there will be people out there who follow your videos who split hairs about the way you describe shadow work. Don't pay any attention to them. Some people have very strongly held opinions about how you should describe any mental health topic, whether mental illness, or growth over weaknesses (shadow work).
      The truth is I have had a wide-variety of clients and used very different language with each client based on how they needed to hear certain truths for their own healing and growth. Don't let others dictate how you describe shadow work. There is not a right or wrong way to describe the process. I get a little irritated with people who want to correct others and say we shouldn't use the word "weaknesses" when describing things we want to overcome as humans. These individuals think it is somehow a "judgy" word that means we are blaming others (or ourselves) while trying to move forward. Nope. We don't have to explain or change the way we describe the process of growth (shadow work) for the nit-picky folk who try to impose their definitions and semantic judgment on others. You are doing a great job on your channel. I love to watch your videos!
      If a client started correcting or complaining to me about how I describe shadow work to them. I would ask them how they would describe it. After letting them talk for a minute or two, I would follow up with saying "there are many ways to describe this process but we all know what we are talking about when we describe it." Then finally I would gently shut them down for trying to manipulate how others describe this process. It is an arrogant way for them to say "I know more than you do about this topic and you must describe it precisely how I would, otherwise you're an idiot!" I don't tolerate that kind of behavior towards me in my mental health practice. I have been a therapist more than 30 years and feel comfortable in my own skin when people challenge me.
      Turning that around, you have great mental health insight Clark. You hit it out of the park nearly every time. If you ever wanted to become a therapist it would be such an easy step for you. You already have that mindset. Yet I assume that you already love what you do! You inspire so many people! Just saying. From my mental health therapist background, you don't need to change your message for anyone or the way you describe the growth mindset. You are doing an excellent job and you are already an "expert" when it comes to describing these kinds of things. Yes, expert. You have put in the hard work over many years to learn this subject matter and it shows. Don't let the naysayers tell you anything.

    • @zion367
      @zion367 4 місяці тому

      @@crystallevin I fully agree that we dont have to adjust the definitions in order to keep others "untriggered". Their trigger is due to their own judgment, not ours.
      However, if you take it personal when others get uncomfortable with a certain term, then there is something for you to unpack. For them it is not about challeging you, but about a judgment they hold within themselves that gets triggered.
      If you are really comfortable in your skin then you can openly listen to their reasoning and you can gently guide them to deeper selfunderstanding on the topic without feeling challenged.

    More of this Clark please. You are getting to the essence of inner work. For me, my shadow work changed how I see others and, through that, how i see myself. Now I know, when meeting new people, everyone is ‘broken’ like me, and that is ok, because that is the human condition. Those insecurities, fears and defences are at the heart of all of us. It can sometimes actually be faintly amusing to see friends deny them while leaking them left and right! Of course ‘Society’ demands that we hide them but I nowadays can feel so much more compassionate when I see them because I have them in me too. That takes much of the pressure off me to be perfect. I can accept myself as normal, flaws and all. Keep spreading the good stuff.

      @@cobblecattt haha! For sure. I constantly amaze myself with my own ability to surround myself in denial. I can and do contort whole areas of my life to maintain the charade. Again I think we all do. It’s a key method we use to protect ourselves from the reality of being the watchful, fearful animals that we really are. The magic is, of course, once we start to truly accept that reality, we can then start to use better strategies to manage it and enact real change in our lives.

      Thank you for this, I’m hard on myself for having flaws, and sometimes hard on others (in my own head, mostly), so the reminder that everyone is flawed is appreciated. I also acted out of fear and unjustified anger last week, and kind of hurt one of my friends. (I was triggered, essentially, because while what she did sparked it off, my reaction to it had nothing to do with her)

    • @FreddieDaniells
      @FreddieDaniells 4 місяці тому +6

      @@ShintogaDeathAngel Thank you for commenting. Don’t worry, I have been working on this for years but still make all the same mistakes! You are normal! lol. The only tools I have found that help are to become aware of where my fears show themselves, to show compassion for myself for being human, to sometimes have to say sorry to others, and to then find the courage to try new behaviours and habits. I have come to see that this is not a destination where I will one day wake up and be ‘fixed’. There is no ‘perfect’ me, much as some youtube videos suggest or that my ego might like there to be! It is a journey…each year just trying to be a little better than I was last year. I hope that helps.

    This is EXACTLY the conclusion I came to as well over the past few months. I just watched my entire friend group fall apart bc they all got triggered by someone else’s healing and they started blaming that their discomfort of the situation was someone else’s fault instead of looking at their own healing instead. Gosh you said it so well too that laughter is the key! My entire friend group
    Started taking everything way too seriously including me, because fear is exciting and confusing when you don’t have answers on how to heal yourself. It’s easy to point the finger and blame someone else. It’s too easy to over complicate life and take everything to seriously. I’ve finally learned how to see that my intentions were always the best that they could have been at any given time and it’s helped me not to shame myself for what I didn’t know in that moment. Your video gave 100% confirmation for me, thank you. 🙏

    Love this. I just want to mention something that I've learnt from an awesome UA-cam channel called The Alchemist:
    The "triggers' we see in other people, doesn't necessarily mean that we're always seeing a projection of something about ourselves that we don't like. It can also be an indication of something that's missing. A trait that's been tucked away completely because we don't like the way it presents itself in the world.
    Think of Arrogance vs Confidence. You despise arrogance in others, so to compensate for this perceived "wrong" in the world, you shrink your own ego down to nothing. But, now you can't seem to get the respect or love you want, because you don't have any confidence. This makes you despise arrogance even more, but it's not because you yourself are arrogant, it's because you subconsciously wish you had more confidence. Shadow work can show us where the balance has been disturbed. The hard part is in correcting it without overcompensation.

This has helped me heal my feelings with my mom and her decisions. What I also started to understand is yehhh pulling the mirror down when we are triggered is helpful but what I found is it’s not necessarily the “act” we relate to… it’s the underlying emotion their act causes within us that is being mirrored back. Ya know? Every “act” creates a different emotion in different people. 🤍🌟✨💫 shine on Clark! Love your material 🌞

I was glued to this part, to you talking about this realisation you had. You showed your vulnerability, and it was beautiful.
    I welcome more vulnerable, stream of consciousness type vids like this. As a fellow performer - podcaster, musician, etc - my advice (to let go of the perfectionist) is to focus on what makes you excited. My best episodes have been the ones where I’m too excited to worry about how I’m coming across, and to this day they’re my favourite ones. Recall your excitement for your content.🌷💫

    You're one of my favorite content creators, I think your videos have a ton of wisdom in them, very relatable, and you have one of the most calming voices I've ever heard. If you made Meditation videos I would put them in a playlist. No matter what content you put out it has value. Thank you.

    This came out right on time in my life. I'm one of the many who so urgently try their ass of to fix their thoughts in order to properly manifest, running away and denying at all cost the parts of me that are scared the fuck out of being cheated on, not being chosen, not being ever enough or the "right" one for my
    SP. But i've seen inner and outer patterns in relationships that I can no longer repeat. It's even scary to the ego to say "you're flawed by nature and the work never ends" while at the same time we're perfect as is and there's nothing to fix. Trying my best to reconcile every part of me at the table and have a chat together so we can navigate through thick and thin as a team. Definitely loved this video, sharing with us your own struggle and hatd hits along the path truly helps us relate and facilitate our own acceptance. At least it does for me. Thank you so much Clark. Cheers from France

    this is by far the best advice I have come across in my researching how to do shadow work ect..the way you inject humopr with the reality of the deep subject is exactly what I needed, I could not agree more that this reallly should be approached in a fun loving way. I alkways feel so much better when I laugh and your video not only made me laugh it made me laugh out loud. it is so refreshing to see someone that doesnt take themselves so seriously, you came acrosss as genuine and down to earth. keep up the good work. I have been inspired and have been given a fresh breath to continue on with this shadow work. Thank you so much for tickeling my soul and making me laugh.

    Thank you so much! I love this style! I subscribed immediately! I even took notes! I am so glad you said FEAR! No-one believes me when i tell them i live in a constant state of fear. Especially when to them my life is fine and perfect. They often ask "Why am i not doing more?, Why do i do this to myself?, Why cant i finish my goals and dreams?, Why cant I keep up with them?" The fear ebbs and flows and some days I cant even get out of bed. other days i make it to the couch but i cant leave the room. Then other days i finally conqueror it and go out into the world and accomplish my goals at least somewhat then something will trigger me and i have to start alll over again. I have been trying therapy but mental health therapies have gone insane. I cant thank you enough! but thank you.
    Take your time, don't worry about being perfect. ALOT of creators get caught up in making a vid everyday and every week, perfectly, no need. WE have vacations for a reason, days off for a reason. Please pace yourself you are needed here as well as in your own life.

    That Video was Incredible. I watched a lot of your videos at some point and stopped after a while. They were always very good, but not extraordinary. Which is what I’m looking for due to the overwhelming amount of conent out there. But literally witnessing you having an giant insight and seeing that you are struggling as well just gave me so much. I’m so glad I watched this Video. Thank you.
    So many people in „Self-help“ (Including me of course) are fighting so hard against themselves, rejecting themselves until we realize that we don’t have to fight. Everything we were looking for was always there right in front our eyes but we couldn’t see it.

    Hey Clark, I don't usually leave comments on UA-cam, but I just had to give you a shout-out for making one of my favorite videos. I love many of your other videos, too. Even though you covered some of the same content as other motivational speakers I've heard before. You have a unique way of expressing the information that's easy to understand, and your videos are entertaining and serve as great reminders. You shared some of your struggles that I can relate to, and you gave suggestions that have helped me on my self-improvement journey. Thank you for putting in the effort to make all these videos. I visit your channel every week and will continue to do so.

    Such a great video, Clark. Coming out of a long marriage and other major life stressors all at once and doing the hard work of taking a deep closer look at myself and what I bring to the table and acknowledging my role in my judgmental thoughts and actions. I love the message you share that in the self-healing side of this work, "we were never broken to start with." Self-acceptance is heavy work but your videos have been very helpful in creating the proper mindset and approach to self-forgiveness and self-love while being playful and accepting of ourselves in the process. We are all doing the best we can in any given moment. Thank you.

    I’m a first time viewer! Love the informal delivery, point-by-point content with a brief descriptions and examples! Thank you for making this kind of content on topics that could really heal this world! Healing starts with each of us, then we can all make a better world to live in! Thank you, too, for being vulnerable, it helps connect you to the viewer. Side note, I watch someone who posts ADHD content, and they admitted after several years that they were being Ableist to themselves and their viewers, which helped me appreciate them more. Sometimes it’s good to know when you’re “wrong” (subjective, I know). Good to have a chance to learn together! Sorry for the long comment! Excellent content, great delivery, thank you again! Be well ♥️

    I love this! Thank you so much for sharing your vulnerability! I personally like this type of video more than the step 1 2 3 structured ones.
    I related to you so much with what you shared. I also have a very perfectionist part and creative part of me too. I have healed a lot through parts therapy, loving and accepting all parts of myself. But like what you said, the insecure parts or the shadow self don’t all go away even if you have accepted them. Gotta keep accepting them and keep giving them love! It is never ending self care work. I’m currently in a place where I feel like I started slacking with the self care and need to do more inner work ,so that I start taking clearer actions.
    I feel like this video popped up in divine timing! You made me feel really relieved and less alone with my struggles. Really, thank you for what you do. Sending lots of love and gratitude to you!🙏🏽❤️
