"I wasn't going to give up until every single publisher turned me down, but I often feared that would happen." -J.K. Rowling (on H.P. series being rejected by 12 publishers.) Rejection today makes tomorrow's victory sweeter. Keep your head up, Ruby.
Hey Ruby, I'm so proud of you for making this video! It can be really nerve-racking to post a video like this online, but I'm so happy that you are confident enough to not only show the bright side but also be vulnerable and demonstrate that sometimes things don't go as planned. I admire you even more now and I'm sure you'll find success within whatever path you end up pursuing. Love you loads xx
Oh, Ruby. I feel you ❤️ sending you a lot of love and support my friend, for however long you may need it. Little reminder that the future holds so so much for you, far more than can be offered by solely one instituion. I can't wait to continue following your bright journey ✨ (P.S I love that poem!) x
UnJaded Jade exactly! There will be many different options for both of you, and even though it is rough to not get into a University when you put in that much work into the application. As I’m from Belgium (where there’s free entrance to most universities and courses), i can only imagine how hard you all worked for this, and I’m proud of you even if you were unsuccessful on this one xx
Oh my goodness Ruby my heart absolutely breaks for you - I am sending all of my love and hugs your way. Your reaction is so amazing, you're so intelligent and it's their loss I PROMISE you! You are honestly awe-inspiring in so many ways and I look up to you so much. You will smash it wherever you go, that I'm sure of. Just remember everyone is SO proud of you and is 100% here for you - your passion for academia just radiates from you and I have no doubt that the universe has something EVEN BETTER in store for you. Xxx
Speaking from experience, failure is perhaps one of the most important things one needs to experience in life. It tells us alot about ourselves, it shows us our true potential and how strong we can be. You ARE an amazing person and no university can define that. You are bright and talented and you are so strong because of this positive attitude that you have. Trust me, its astounding you positive you are trying to be and you need to be nothing more.
your reaction is incredibly impressing. It's so admirable how you accept that things just didn't work out as you wanted them to and move on. you should be proud of yourself♡
She didn't get into one institution. She still has her incredible grades, all her knowledge, her solid work ethic. She has put herself in a very promising situation for her future. That hard work is not letting her down, and will not let her down.
The Writers' Crown yeah but I'm actually mad that they didn't take her. I'm mad as a girl. When women don't show up in upper management & weeding starts before. Because I know other people who went there though like 40 years ago & her work ethic is way better. Although the people I know also taught themselves Greek &Latin. But I guess it comes down to supply& demand. It's a small country with less universities. America is a bigger country with more universities. More capacity for hard working students to go to top schools. My dad went to Imperial College London for one of his universities 50 yrs ago. I feel like she can do better than that.
Oxford have missed out on a brilliant student and an amazing human being 💕 don’t feel disheartened, don’t blame yourself, you are only human and keep smiling
Whatever university you'll attend will be incredibly lucky to have you as a student. No matter which road you'll go, your love and passion for learning will reward you greatly in the end. Sending you good thoughts x
Hey Ruby. Remember that Hermione skipped her whole seventh year (something she probably never thought she would do!). It never stopped her from being successful (in fact, it WAS what made her famous). Life is unpredictable at times. Take care of yourself 💟 "It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default." - J.K. Rowling
I can't express how much I love and admire you. Your grace is something I wish I could have in situations like these. You are an inspiration to others to never give up and to continue doing what you love ❤️
Ruby, you have come so far both as a person and a student, please please please remember that your future is SO BRIGHT!! I know that you will go on to succeed all expectations of you and I’m so glad that you won’t let this dishearten or demotivate yourself✨ don’t be upset, use this experience to reflect and improve your mindset, lots of love xox
My father will hear about this! No really Ruby you can be proud. Don‘t be sad! You are a great inspiration for me! 2018 will be awesome! Much love, xx 💝
I think it's so great that you uploaded the video, I think it spreads an important message that you will propably fail at some point and you have to keep going. I feel like study accounts often only focus on the success and that upsets me so much!
Ruby, I am really sorry to hear that Oxford did not offer you a place. I followed your UA-cam channel closely and I was so confident that you definitely would get in! You are such a sweet, encouraging and persistent girl! Please don't be defeated by this experience. If you feel Oxford should be your destination, you can always do a master and PhD at Oxford. My friend tried 4 times and he finally got in. It is never too late to be at Oxford. :) All the bests.
You are so brave for sharing this, and if you didn’t get into oxford, it doesn’t matter, it just wasn’t for you, any uni will be lucky to have such a unique and talented individual as you! I’m sure whichever path you take, it will be the best one in the end ❤️ love you xx
Very Sorry about this. But you are right to see positives in negatives. Agree with the poem' road not taken'. There is a blessing in this. Your chemistry teacher is right. You will look back and you will be grateful this gave you a new path. Sometimes we see life set in a certain way, but those bumps in the road are best things really they are. You are brave to do this video. You havent failed you achieved an interview at oxford. You will be successful at whatever you do because you the best work ethic. Many people are successful and havent gone to oxford or Cambridge. It hurts because it is a life long dream. Your chemistry teacher is right honesty. Well done in the way you are handling this. Wish you well
I was rejected from my dream, first choice university for my undergrad degree, so I had to study at my second-choice uni instead. Here I am five years later, having completed a Master's and now doing a (fully-funded) PhD at that dream, first choice uni. It's simple to write now, but when I was 18, feeling bitterly disappointed whilst staring at the rejection on UCAS, I would not have anticipated things working out this way. You will find a path so extraordinary and *right* for you. Your outlook is unparalleled. (And the university that you do choose will be the luckiest bloody uni in the country.) Big love Ruby
Thank you! I did law at undergrad, specialised in human rights law for the Master's (and now have an even more narrow focus for the PhD, but it's still HR based.)
Sameeee. Never applied to my first choice uni (Oxford; thought I wasn't good enough, didn't even cross my mind to apply to it). Doing my postgrad here now.
Jen, Ruby, The same thing happened to me! I was rejected from Stanford University (I grew up a few towns away) when I was a senior in high school. I was completely devastated. Four years later I was accepted into their law school. I do see the silver lining, now. Ruby, you are such an unforgettable class act. You motivate me every day. Please keep making your videos :). Best Wishes, Crystal
I think that's not correct because she studies for long hours and give the same results as the students who study less than her. So mental ability has also to be taken into consideration. The capacity of a student to cope with hardest subject needs to be compared. These institutes need the students who agrees with their criteria. With her there are many in competition. You can compare her with any American toppers. Best education is found in Finland. These institutes have many more better than Ruby.
studying that much and not getting 3 A*s , that’s not really what I’d call clever. I didn’t do anything at all for my a-levels( apart from the course work) and I got 3 A*s
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS. I am so proud of you Ruby. Congratulations for making it this far. You are the most inspirational person I know and I'm sure you'll go far in life anyway. I am very confident in you!
ruby, i’m really sorry. i understand how disheartening this must be for you and i really truly sympathize with you. you’re such an intelligent young woman and i know you can get accepted anywhere else your heart desires. they’ve lost such an awesome person to have at their campus. i wish you the best of luck. ps: its okay to cry. stay strong.
Hey girl, firstly well done on making this video, it's really important that people do this to support the other 90% of applicants that don't get in. 2 years ago I was also rejected by Oxford and honestly I let it affect me way too much. I didn't do as well in my A levels because I didn't see the point and was pretty depressed. Please don't let this happen, you deserve greatness. After my rejection I quickly reapplied to a uni closer to home which has allowed me to have the most amazing relationship with my now boyfriend (back then he was just a friend) and we are SO happy, and are soon to get engaged. I'm now in my 2nd year of the PERFECT course for me, and I cannot wait until I get a job in this field, so really it's the best thing that ever happened to me. Good luck for the future girl, can't wait for your next upload
This is a potentially critical moment in your life/paradigm, especailly because it has been your dream since you were 12. But imagine how dull would it be if your life trajectory was always a series of ticking off your do list box, with no surprises, twists and turns. We grow from our heartaches and disappointments! Xo (anyway as everyone has already stated: their absolute collasal loss!
It's down to the personal preference of the admissions tutors of the particular college she applied to- that's what makes the interview process so difficult...
Hey kiddo, You're smart, determined and beautifully minded. You're going to be ok, and I'm pretty sure you know that. Good luck with whatever you choose to do next.
What's wrong with Oxford this year? :( How could they reject both you and UnJaded Jade? It's crazy. You'll succeed in life without Oxford anyways, you have amazing personality, you're really hard-working, talented, humble. You deserve more then Oxford to be honest. Love from Hungary
The thing about Oxford is that you don't really apply to a university like normal, you apply to a single one of their colleges. Each college has between 3 and 8 spaces in a course and unless they recommend you for another college those are the only spots available to you even though there are 100 spots all up. So there could be 50 kids trying out for those 3 spots at one college and only 5 at another but that doesn't increase your chances if you haven't applied to that college with 5 applicants. It is all down to pot luck and who has applied to which college that year.
Obliviate I don't know much about sciences, but hunanities have been crazy this year apparently. I know of a few who their teachers universally thought of as dead certanties not even get interviews.
Only that 'many' spaces for that huge country? That's really bad :( those students must be geniuses. But they crush the hard-working students dream this way :( such a cruel. In my country we have like 10 places for film making or some art stuff, but otherwise if you study hard, you can get in to the best universities. Of course they're not Oxford or Cambridge, but we have a few famous universities. For example materials engineering is the best one in the country where I study and they accept 10 to 100 students here. They usually accept around 50, because they can't find that many students who are good enough.
"The road not taken" is actually one of my favourite poems. I'm on my second year of university so facing rejection is something that I've been through before, I know the frustation and the feeling of being hopless and lost because it was all you had planned. Truth is your teacher is right, some day you'll look behind and you'll be glad that you had taken another path. It's ok to feel lost sometimes, you always end up finding the right path.
It is so disheartening as you said. It's such a competitive field. Be proud that you get another chance to find a way, another one than you have expected since you've been twelve, and rise to the opportunities life is going to offer you! :) 💪💕
One positive thing about rejection and failure is that it stops us from becoming complacent. It reminds us that nothing can be taken for granted and that we need to keep working hard to improve ourselves! Also i don’t know if you like YA but Radio Silence by Alice Oseman has a great message about university and how much self worth and identity can be tied to academia when that isn’t the be all and end all of what makes us valuable :)
Ruby this video just made me admire you even more! I think at this time remember J.K. Rowling’s message about failure: “It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case you fail by default” 💙💙💙💙
Ruby we are all so proud of you, we have all observed your progress and how far you have come. It is clear you are a beautiful, inspirational hard worker that all your viewers look up to. Your positivity motivates me every day, and I am so grateful that such UA-camr exists for study enthusiasts
What kind of students are they looking for if they dont take people like you ? I really don't understand ! Stay strong Ruby, you're such an inspiration for a lot of us 💪
^^ That. Of course, nobody can know for sure why Ruby didn't get into Oxford other than the admissions tutors themselves, but quite possibly they saw someone who imagines Oxford will be like getting grades in school, but more prestigious. In school, there are clear boundaries for how to get good grades, so if you work hard and learn the syllabus you'll get them. Many good students get to Oxford and then feel overwhelmed because their work doesn't immediately impress their tutors in the way that it did with their teachers and they're nothing particularly special here. Then they overwork and get burnout.
Ruby my heart breaks for you, this is my first time to write a comment on UA-cam in the past few years. You are an amazing girl, and Oxford lost a genius unfortunately. You are my motivation and inspiration, i watch your videos every single day. Love love love love from China
Hahahhaha you know a lot, yep UA-cam Facebook Instagram Twitter Snapchat etc are blocked here. But I'm in a British school in China and we have Internet from Singapore, i don't know how they did that but we can access to any websites
That Robert Frost poem has gotten me through many disappointments! And your chemistry teacher is right you will look back and realise it happened for a reason because something better will come along! As my mam always says 'What's for you won't pass you by!'
LittleBitofSunshine You and Ruby have misread the poem. It is not about the road less travelled, it's about the road not taken. It was meant to be a joke(for Edward Thomas, his Friend), not a motivational poem. In fact, both paths were identical, but the speaker tries to convince himself that he took the road less travelled, and that it made a positive difference(hence "telling this with a sigh). He would've regretted any decision made, although the two paths were extremely similar. It's one of the most misinterpreted/misread poems in the world. It's a great poem, but it's not the poem you guys think it is. www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2015/09/robert-frost-poem-killed-friend/
+Ke Y I always believe poetry and music is always how the reader or listener interprets it :) Each person will always take something different from anything artistic in life
LittleBitofSunshine Yes, but to a certain extent. The poet's/writer's intention is as important, if not more important than the reader's personal interpretation. It is shocking to see that many, even school teachers, choose to ignore the poet's intention, as well as the first few stanzas. There's no "right" or "wrong" in literature, but it's certainly not right to just focus on the last stanza, or the last three lines of the poem. If you read the whole poem, or even the title "the road not taken", it is obvious that the last stanza is not about how taking the unconventional route led to good outcomes. Hence, in this case, it's not about how you personally interpret the whole poem, but about how you choose to ignore parts of the poem. I hope I don't come off as aggressive or rude. You're not the only person who misinterpreted the poem, of course, but it irks me (slightly) as a student of literature that majority of the people pick out their favourite stanza (the last one) and ignore the rest of the poem.
But don't you think that's how we interpret it that the road we thought we would have gone down is our 'road not taken' :D I've read the full poem many times I first came across it when I was 12 and our class had to do a project on a poet of our choosing I always interpreted it Frost decided to go the route that everyone else had not He wanted to make his own path not just follow what was easy and 'normal'. But to be different and to think differently and outside the box :D I don't find what you say rude at all we're all passionate about the things we love and for you that's literature
LittleBitofSunshine I interpreted it as regret or the human tendency to attribute blame to minor events/decisions , as the emphasis is on the road not taken, not the road you chose to take, but that’s a possible interpretation as well. The problem is, though, that the paths turned out to be not very different. “Though as for that the passing there/Had worn them really about the same/And both that morning equally lay/In leaves no step had trodden black.” Frost did try to convey his intention over the years, but it seems like most people misunderstood the poem. You’re right. Frost would have probably been happy that misreading of his poem motivated many. His friend, Edward Thomas, also read it that way, was highly motivated, and decided to enlist in World War I. Thank you for being open-minded and polite, it’s been way too long since I’ve encountered a friendly commenter like you.
Dear Ruby, I think that this video reflects upon you grown up nature completely. I saw it and honestly, I was impressed how grown up you are and how you deal with your failure. It's something that not many people are capable of and what is a tremendous quality. When I watched it, I completely forgot that you are a teenager, you just felt so wise! You've done everything could and when you've done that, you can be proud of yourself regardless of the outcome. Your mindset will bring you far in life, even though your life might have taken a turn you did not expect.
Aw, sweetheart I'm so moved by this video. It's unbelievable how strong and wise you're handeling this. It's also super okay to be sad. That poem is freaking beautiful. I'm sure that there is this amazing, unexpected road ahead of you. I admire you so much. How you are 100% yourself. How you adress bullying. How productive you are and how much that inspires me. Ruby you are a superstar and out of this world. They don't understand what they're missing. There's something more amazing waiting for you. No doubt. And also a little quote from my favorite feel good book: 'please believe that things are good with me, and even when they're not, they will be soon enough. And I will always believe the same about you.' - Stephen Chbowsky, Perks of being a Wallflower
Hey,Ruby.... my English teacher once told me 'diligence is the mother of a good fortune' ....you are one labourious and hardworking person.....I strongly believe that destiny has bright plans for you..... Keep up the positive optimistic and productive attitude....
Still so proud of you Ruby! It just shows that even the best of people don’t get in sometimes. It will be hard to let go of that dream but you will end up at such an amazing University nevertheless. You continue to inspire me and you will do great things! ❤️
Hey Ruby, I am sure you have worked hard toward your goal. Please remember that this doesn't define you, we know you will continue to work hard toward your dreams!! Hoping you'll have a successful 2018
You know oxford do want students they can work on, which is why I feel like they might not have thought that you are someone they need to guide through and help achieve what you want. I obviously think it’s their loss and that they made a mistake, but then again maybe the road to become who you want to be isn’t as far as they need it to be. And hey, maybe you’ll be a professor their once in your life too😋 Have the best of luck further and try not to think of this as a bad thing, that’s the only way it will become it.
I was hoping this wasn’t the outcome, but your positivity is truly why we love you Ruby! Although this may have not been a dream come true, this will now allow you to embark on new dreams, and a new direction of life. It’s like writing a book, you’re idea for the next chapter was Oxford, but you have now changed your ideas, outcome of what the story will be, so the chapters must be edited. This new chapter of your book will take you far, I know it will!
I'm not trying to sound insensitive, but that's exactly why I think you should live a little. I know you love studying and it's a huge part of you, but there's a whole world that's waiting for you to experience. Life passes by so quickly, you can't dedicate your entire life to school only. You can gain so much knowledge and experiences outside of school. It's important to be yourself and live your own life, you are not Hermione Granger and that's okay, it's even better to be your own special self. 🐝
I’m early and there is a reason for it! I’ve been waiting for it! Ruby! I’m so sorry, but if they don’t accept I don’t really know how anyone else could get in! Good on you for not letting it get you down. Good luck, Ruby
You're still my inspiration, Ruby! My grades have improved drastically this year and that's all thanks to you. I know in my heart that, no matter which road you take, your journey will be magical. 💕
At my school we were told that Oxford and Cambridge are a bit wary of people who spend too much of their day studying because it's not healthy. That did concern me when I saw quite a few of your videos. I have no idea if that was their reason to you. I do know that it tends to be people with very perfectionist and driven personality types that get good grades. If studying and getting good grades consumes too much of your life at your age you risk getting depression or eating disorders or feeling suicidal later on in life. Oxford and Cambridge get a lot of students who develop these issues. They want their students to be healthy and well-rounded and I get the impression they might be concerned about people who study and push themselves too much. I was rejected from Cambridge so I can empathise. I admire this video. I think far more important than getting good grades and us getting into the uni we wanted etc is learning not to be perfectionist, learning to not push ourselves too much and learning to be as healthy and well rounded as possible... You have an incredible future ahead of you. x
Same omg we are Cambridge reject squad- u still did amazing tho- but no hate towards Cam. Honestly I still love Cambridge. I don’t get ppl who were rejected by a particular school and decided to hate them because of sour grapes.
I think that studying a lot have a negative impacts on ,you should not study for 14h a day it is exhausting. I used to be like you but when I compared my grades with the grades of the other students who don't study that much,I understood what was the issue 😢😢 . I used to wake up earlier and study harder in vain 😟😟
You inspired me before getting to know you had an interview. Do not let this define you nor your beauty as a person, because it doesn't. Enjoy your path. Wishing us all the best :)
Hey, Ruby. As someone who also spent most of their life wanting to go to Oxford, it can be weird coming to the realisation you're not. Personally I realised that I just wasn't compatible with the English course and style of teaching there, but turning away from what had been a childhood dream was extremely upsetting. But I do genuinely believe that, in a year or two, you will be so happy wherever are then that you'll be able to see that the path you always wanted isn't necessarily the right one. If you want any help or guidance on what to do next, I'd be delighted to lend a hand as an English student and as a friend. Good luck with your future and, as you say, I hope you have a productive year. "I took the road less travelled by, and that made all the difference."
Honestly I feel the same as you- I was rejected from Cambridge and honestly I cried. A. LOT. I feel very disheartened by the entire thing but this video was very helpful in making me feel better!
I love your mindset Ruby, you’re so genuine and honest and I know that wherever else life takes you, you will be be equally and happy and successful as you would have been at Oxford. And I can totally relate to the people thinking that failure doesn’t come to “study youtubers” because we are all human. Sending you all my love xxx
This is just so upsetting, you work so hard and you put in so much effort. It's simply infuriating. But you don't need Oxford to live a happy and fulfilling life. You're going to get far Ruby, we all believe in you! ♡
I must commend your character... you handled this situation with a lot of grace. I know for a fact you'll succeed whichever path you choose and rrst assured your work ethic and videos are an inspiration for many others. This experience is a learning curve that'll serve to make you a much better person. Well done
Your academic success and testament of character is not defined by an institution 💁you are amazing and nobody can take that away from you ! You have achieved In your 17 years so much and you are testament to the idea that if you work hard you can achieve . Try not to feel too disheartened 💖
Applying for/Attending university is such an intense part of your life for learning lessons. As someone who is in her final year of university and used to have study habits and a personality like you (I was also considered oxford potential by my sixth form), university is so much more than where you go. I’ve faced more failure and challenge in the last 3 years than my entire life. It’s easy at sixth form and high school, you learn the content, you revise, you get the grade. However at uni you truly experience “the big bad world” and learn there’s so much more to life and your character than academia. You learn that life doesn’t go to plan sometimes, no matter how hard you work, and that’s okay and you make peace with that. There is a lesson to be learnt in everything that happens, and I’m sure you’ll be fine wherever you go 🌟
I know this might sound weird because I don't know you, but, I'm really proud of you and I really admire you. You are a strong and intelligent young woman and I am sure that you will do great things. (I'm sorry if I'd made any mistake writing this xD I just hope that it makes you smile)
You are so incredibly strong. Just remember that everything happens for a reason. Don't let this get you down in your studies. Failures are difficult to deal with, but you are amazing. I know you will be amazing anywhere you study.
this video is so raw and genuine, im absolutely certain you’ll thrive wherever you go-your intelligence and work ethic mean you’ll do wonderfully anywhere and your whole perspective is impressively pragmatic and mature. i’m sure this video will help those who have unfortunately been unsuccessful 💛
Cerys - yes, the causal element here is she did not perform well at interview. Poor performance = failure to secure a place. That's the reason, right there. While we're in the game of stating the obvious...
May God bless you, I'm seriously blown away about how beautifully you handled it. You handled it just as it should be handled - not the end of the world at all! Not even a setback; simply a different path. Keep being the amazing hearted person you show yourself to be ! Much love
I was upset in 2016 when I received my Oxford rejection letter. I couldn't understand why despite my grades I wasn't even offered an interview.I had also confirmed my place at University College London but couldn't go for financial reasons. I cried for a few days haha. Two years later, I'm having the time of my life at another university in Paris - just because it's not Oxbridge does not mean that the course won't be as interesting and challenging ! Whatever you do, you'll still excel. University is an incredible experience and a rejection letter does NOT define your worth. I am 100% positive you'll get offers from other prestigious universities. Maybe apply for Oxbridge after your BA ! Keep going !!
It's so amazing that you have such a accommodating home and give so many commenters a place to live, since all of them seem to know how hard you work, as if they are beside you and watching and measuring every part of your life! It's such a noble and generous act!
Yeah I was also just counting down to this video! I’m so guttered for both of them, but on the other hand it means that these two amazing girls will go on and thread very different paths :)
Honestly, I really do believe this is all for the better. I want to thank you for all the work you have done on yt so far because you have inspired and motivated countless amounts of students to aim high and continue working hard. You are the reason I even applied to Oxford this year, and watching your videos religiously has motivated me to study even when I am the most down. Thanks for everything Ruby. I owe my place in Oxford to you.
I am so sorry you didn't make it, Ruby. I genuinely empathize. But the great news is that God knows how much you want to study there, so he probably has even better plans for you in the future than you could imagine :)
I admire your maturity and resilience, Ruby. You're a huge inspiration for me and for many people out there. Nothing will ever take that from you. I send you all of my love! ❤
Maybe take a year out? And re-apply? I know that you deserved this more than anyone but maybe what's to come on your path is better than Oxford. Maybe it's meant to be like this! I know you're going to ace your exams so show them what your worth! I love you no matter what and I am so proud of you!
Girllllll honestly with your incredible work ethic and your positive outlook on life, you will go anywhere in life. The way you carry yourself is such an admirable quality and I'm sure your future will still be brighter than ever!
I believe that everything happens for a reason and perhaps this will lead to something unexpected but great. And no matter where you study, you'll do amazing and if you keep your positive outlook on life, you will go so far! Like you said, kindness is the most important thing to have and you are a very kindhearted person so be proud, you have achieved so much already ☺ #warmheartedwinter
Hi Ruby, first-time commenter. I only recently discovered your work and subscribed straight away. I was quite academically scattered. You helped me focus, remember my belief in the value of academia, and get back to preparing for next semester. You brought the joy of it back. You show that learning can fuel everything you do, your lifestyle, your identity. Your tirelessness is inspiring. You must be more devastated than I can understand. But I just wanted you to know all that. Hugs.
I feel so sorry, i know that you would have done amazing if you were even if you were offered a place. But i believe everything happens for a reason, this may be for the better and you will find a new oppotunity that will lead you to the right path. IT IS OUR CHOICES THAT SHOW US WHAT WE REALLY ARE FAR MORE THEM OUR ABIITIES- Albus Dumbledore
Ruby, you are such an inspiration, by making this video you are portraying the reality of life instead of idealism like so many other you tubers and for that you have truly gained my respect. I have experienced rejection many times from different universities and honestly I'm glad that I did because it lead me to the path that I am on today. You are such hard worker and seeing how disciplined you are you are going to be successful and do great things!!
I'm so so sorry that you have experienced this - but the way you have handled it, including making this video, shows a huge level of emotional maturity that I didn't have until I was in my mid-twenties. You're an amazing person and an inspiration to me. You should be proud of everything you have achieved.
"I wasn't going to give up until every single publisher turned me down, but I often feared that would happen." -J.K. Rowling (on H.P. series being rejected by 12 publishers.)
Rejection today makes tomorrow's victory sweeter. Keep your head up, Ruby.
Jeremy Mcguire this makes me emotional
jk also got rejected by oxford. maybe that school needs better expectations because they lost two real gems
I totally agree with you, she is very confident
Thanks for motivating ruby
UnJaded Jade u both I believe in u so much ❤️
You too inspire us Jade!🤓😌
the world is going to remember your two names, I'm sure !
That's why I love Ruby and Jade they have got each other's back 😘😍
Oh my goodness Ruby my heart absolutely breaks for you - I am sending all of my love and hugs your way. Xxx
Eve, you're really lucky to have been accepted to Oxford University. Many other revision UA-camrs like Ruby Granger and Unjaded Jade got rejected
Yeah I know
Anyway congrats on your application for Oxford, Eve
Revision With Eve aww eve your too kind xx I love you so much
Sudo Crem are you saying that ruby didn't put enough effort???
Speaking from experience, failure is perhaps one of the most important things one needs to experience in life. It tells us alot about ourselves, it shows us our true potential and how strong we can be. You ARE an amazing person and no university can define that. You are bright and talented and you are so strong because of this positive attitude that you have. Trust me, its astounding you positive you are trying to be and you need to be nothing more.
They just lost the hardest working student in the universe.
stay positive Ruby, you'll be successful without them. ♡
Hard work only takes you so far, there are kids at Oxford that can study 1/4th the time she does and still do better then her.
Hard worker doesn't mean smart
your reaction is incredibly impressing. It's so admirable how you accept that things just didn't work out as you wanted them to and move on. you should be proud of yourself♡
- nargles this is so sweet, I just love how everyone here is so supportive of Ruby! 💗💗
May be you are not destined to be a student there but a professor in the future. Stay positive and life will be positive to you.
I'm so sorry, but I love your attitude. Keep moving forward. I'm sure your dream will come true
Hard work never lets you down. Keep moving forward!
The Writers' Crown it did let her down though because she didn't get in?
Screw them. I live in the US, apply to American universities like Brown. You can apply to joint programs like Bachelor's/Master's in one.
If I was an admission officer working there, she would have got it in. I'm mad at them. Or if I was an employer I would have snatched her up so fast.
Sending you good thoughts x
studytee o my god! I’m a great fan!
studytee totally agree with you 👍
Study tee omg i love ya i didn t imagine omgggggg
Hi Therese!! I'm your biggest fan!!!!
Hey Ruby. Remember that Hermione skipped her whole seventh year (something she probably never thought she would do!). It never stopped her from being successful (in fact, it WAS what made her famous). Life is unpredictable at times. Take care of yourself 💟
"It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default." - J.K. Rowling
You knew exactly what to say to me haha! Thank you Nadia x
Nadia Ben true good luck Ruby!
Ruby Granger I'm glad it made you feel better ♡😊
Hermione became minister of magic too.
Lol who is your father
arry starks he‘s just my dad, but he is the boss from the Police where I live haha :D
arry starks hahah I was thinking the same
I think it's so great that you uploaded the video, I think it spreads an important message that you will propably fail at some point and you have to keep going.
That’s amazing! What did you study?
Nice
Jen, Ruby,
The same thing happened to me!
Best Wishes,
Crystal
Fall down seven times get up eight- japanese proverb ruby you will suceed in life you
Little does Oxford know that Ruby Granger is the brightest witch of her age
I think that's not correct because she studies for long hours and give the same results as the students who study less than her. So mental ability has also to be taken into consideration. The capacity of a student to cope with hardest subject needs to be compared. These institutes need the students who agrees with their criteria. With her there are many in competition. You can compare her with any American toppers. Best education is found in Finland. These institutes have many more better than Ruby.
well quoted my friend
studying that much and not getting 3 A*s , that’s not really what I’d call clever. I didn’t do anything at all for my a-levels( apart from the course work) and I got 3 A*s
@@nesrinisli6921 lol sit down
stop it’s true. You can’t call someone like her clever . She just isn’t gifted.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS. I am so proud of you Ruby. Congratulations for making it this far. You are the most inspirational person I know and I'm sure you'll go far in life anyway. I am very confident in you!
And... You got into Oxford! Well done Ruby, anything can happen if you put your mind to it 😊
ruby, i’m really sorry. i understand how disheartening this must be for you and i really truly sympathize with you. you’re such an intelligent young woman and i know you can get accepted anywhere else your heart desires. they’ve lost such an awesome person to have at their campus. i wish you the best of luck.
ps: its okay to cry. stay strong.
Olivia Joseph hey, what are you studying? I am so happy for you! :)
Dietetics. Bonus is that the course is paid for so I am leaving uni with no debt! :D
You’re such an inspiration! “It’ll all be okay in the end, if it’s not okay then it’s not the end” 💖
This is a potentially critical moment in your life/paradigm, especailly because it has been your dream since you were 12. But imagine how dull would it be if your life trajectory was always a series of ticking off your do list box, with no surprises, twists and turns. We
grow from our heartaches and disappointments! Xo (anyway as everyone has already stated: their absolute collasal loss!
Wow this puts things in perspective for me. . and I feel like what I'm going thru is almost an adventure now :D thankyou so much!
That’s such a great way to look at it
I'm so sorry i don't understand how they didn't give you place? Your literally the most hardest worker I've ever seen keep going ruby!💗
Julia Wiemerink i get what you mean but i don’t understand what that certain type of people would be like
Julia Wiemerink Could you explain what kind of person do they want? I'm not trying to argue or something, just out of curiosity c:
Julia Wiemerink Btw, is that a Polish surname?
It's down to the personal preference of the admissions tutors of the particular college she applied to- that's what makes the interview process so difficult...
Hey kiddo,
You're smart, determined and beautifully minded.
You're going to be ok, and I'm pretty sure you know that.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do next.
"Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck." -Dali Lama XIV
Everything will work out for you in the end Ruby.
Don't stop nothing Ruby, you got this girl.( you have fallen in the " road of Life" but a strong girl like you can get up easley).
They lost a Gem. .......but remember Ruby that in life you get far better things than what we leave behind.....Much love to YOU
Siasha Faruqii pun intended?
Emma Darbyshire .....Nope
Emma Darbyshire ....Why u felt that way?
Siasha Faruqii "they lost a gem", her name is Ruby.
Yes, ruby is literrally a gem
You will likely be successful where ever you go x
Hiii!
omG! i'm your subscriber as well, but i didn't expect you here, Tibees! Have a nice day!
Dear Ruby, friendly reminder that J.K.Rowling was rejected from Oxford too, and I bet they regret it now. Wish you the best xx
👆
yes
They might regret it from an endowment point of view, but so what ? I doubt they regret it, from an intellectual point of view.
I guess she can for the next school year. But I don't know much about the UK university applications.
Btw thank you for letting me know! :) It's more clear now how could it happen.
Noooooo :( I saw Jade's video this morning and kept waiting for yours all day hoping that you were accepted!
I'm so proud of you Ruby. If you haven't gotten in there it means theres something better awaiting. You will get very far. Don't her discouraged❤❤❤❤
Ruby this video just made me admire you even more!
I think at this time remember J.K. Rowling’s message about failure:
“It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case you fail by default”
💙💙💙💙
Ruby we are all so proud of you, we have all observed your progress and how far you have come. It is clear you are a beautiful, inspirational hard worker that all your viewers look up to. Your positivity motivates me every day, and I am so grateful that such UA-camr exists for study enthusiasts
this is so honest and you are such an inspiration, whatever path you take will be sure to end in success for you!
What kind of students are they looking for if they dont take people like you ? I really don't understand ! Stay strong Ruby, you're such an inspiration for a lot of us 💪
Antonin 75 No offence here but they look for people who can handle failure and are not going to burn out from attending Oxford.
Kat Wang hey....u r from china ...how can u use UA-cam there then....is it not banned there?????? Kat???
Save The World From New World Order
VPN(lets you access “banned” websites in China), or she may be in another country atm.
Hahahhaha you know a lot, yep UA-cam Facebook Instagram Twitter Snapchat etc are blocked here. But I'm in a British school in China and we have Internet from Singapore, i don't know how they did that but we can access to any websites
TheRamdom Stuff
Absolutely
That Robert Frost poem has gotten me through many disappointments! And your chemistry teacher is right you will look back and realise it happened for a reason because something better will come along!
As my mam always says 'What's for you won't pass you by!'
LittleBitofSunshine
You and Ruby have misread the poem.
+Ke Y I always believe poetry and music is always how the reader or listener interprets it :)
Each person will always take something different from anything artistic in life
LittleBitofSunshine
Yes, but to a certain extent.
But don't you think that's how we interpret it that the road we thought we would have gone down is our 'road not taken' :D
I've read the full poem many times I first came across it when I was 12 and our class had to do a project on a poet of our choosing I always interpreted it Frost decided to go the route that everyone else had not He wanted to make his own path not just follow what was easy and 'normal'.
But to be different and to think differently and outside the box :D
I don't find what you say rude at all we're all passionate about the things we love and for you that's literature
LittleBitofSunshine
I interpreted it as regret or the human tendency to attribute blame to minor events/decisions , as the emphasis is on the road not taken, not the road you chose to take, but that’s a possible interpretation as well.
The problem is, though, that the paths turned out to be not very different. “Though as for that the passing there/Had worn them really about the same/And both that morning equally lay/In leaves no step had trodden black.”
Frost did try to convey his intention over the years, but it seems like most people misunderstood the poem.
Dear Ruby,
I think that this video reflects upon you grown up nature completely.
You don't know how much this comment means to me right now x
:) that just made my day. Xx
And hey, maybe you’ll be a professor their once in your life too😋
Have the best of luck further and try not to think of this as a bad thing, that’s the only way it will become it.
So true
Well put!
I am so proud of you no matter what result you would have gotten!
sarah j yaaas
Exactly.
I’m early and there is a reason for it! I’ve been waiting for it! Ruby! I’m so sorry, but if they don’t accept I don’t really know how anyone else could get in! Good on you for not letting it get you down. Good luck, Ruby
wow you're so mature
your reaction is really impressing and inspirational and i'm so sorry for you this must be heartbreaking
You are such a lovely girl! Onwards and upwards, any university would be lucky to have you!
You're still my inspiration, Ruby! My grades have improved drastically this year and that's all thanks to you. I know in my heart that, no matter which road you take, your journey will be magical. 💕
AHAHA IVE BEEN REFRESHING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG💓💓💓don’t worry, it doesn’t define you at the end of the day- you’ll be amazing wherever you go!!
You have an incredible future ahead of you. x
Lizzie's Playlists Thank you for finally pointing this out! It seems like all her subscribers don’t get it.
Ruby I love that you show that you are vulnerable.
Lovely to see you here Rhiannon :) x
This is just so upsetting, you work so hard and you put in so much effort. It's simply infuriating. But you don't need Oxford to live a happy and fulfilling life. You're going to get far Ruby, we all believe in you! ♡
charlotte dikken .....yup
I must commend your character... you handled this situation with a lot of grace. I know for a fact you'll succeed whichever path you choose and rrst assured your work ethic and videos are an inspiration for many others. This experience is a learning curve that'll serve to make you a much better person.
Well done
Your academic success and testament of character is not defined by an institution 💁you are amazing and nobody can take that away from you ! You have achieved In your 17 years so much and you are testament to the idea that if you work hard you can achieve . Try not to feel too disheartened 💖
I wish I could tell Ruby from five years ago that in 2023 she would actually study at Oxford (at the same time as Emma Watson by the way...)!
Stay strong, we re here for you! A lot of kisses, sweetheart!💗
You are so incredibly strong. Just remember that everything happens for a reason. Don't let this get you down in your studies. Failures are difficult to deal with, but you are amazing. I know you will be amazing anywhere you study.
it’s oxfords loss! you are too good for oxford in my opinion! keep your chin high live will get better ❤️
DiamondKittyCat true
this video is so raw and genuine, im absolutely certain you’ll thrive wherever you go-your intelligence and work ethic mean you’ll do wonderfully anywhere and your whole perspective is impressively pragmatic and mature. i’m sure this video will help those who have unfortunately been unsuccessful 💛
everything happens for a reason, love. keep your head up
Cerys - yes, the causal element here is she did not perform well at interview.
Oh, I saw Jade's video this morning, but I hoped you would've entered. Great jod, though!
Maria The Christmas addict Same, I was expecting video from Ruby hoping that she will enter Oxford, but unfortunately for both of them...😕
Yeah I was also just counting down to this video!
Great!!!! This video shows that you are a very strong young girl.
Ruby, don't be disheartened. It is so good to see your journey and I know that greatness awaits the next steps of your life.
You finally made it to Oxford, young Ruby 😊
Ruby you have always been an inspiration. Don t loose hope , your hard-work will definitely pay off.

I have been REALLY REALLY inspired by your hard work. Never stop influencing us and stay being proud of yourself. I REALLY admire you.
5 years later and you finally get to study English at Oxford university!
One of Oxford’s biggest mistakes!
Mark Keane yep they mess up with JR ROWLING aswell
I'm so so sorry that you have experienced this - but the way you have handled it, including making this video, shows a huge level of emotional maturity that I didn't have until I was in my mid-twenties. You're an amazing person and an inspiration to me. You should be proud of everything you have achieved.
