Yo your actually really good at this. I enjoyed watching this video a lot and 10/10 overall for me. Great editing and kept me entertained and interested all the way through. You almost look like a professional doing this stuff for years. Cheers man😉
Great work, and look how much you learned for your next box, its gonna be even better. Earning that experience yourself the solid way. You definitely keep things real and in perspective, and that keeps it fun.
Thank you for that feedback!! I really try to portray things as honestly as possible, so I really appreciate that. And yea I looked at it the same way, I’m just knocking out all the beginner mistakes I’m bound to make haha Thanks for checking out the video, and happy holidays!
From a carpenter who has used circular saws for many years, I'll bet your main problem was an inexpensive thin kerf circular saw blade. The thin ones are total junk for ripping plywood or mdf. They heat up and warp all over the place. They are made for quick cross cuts in 2x4s and other lumber. A thicker blade would make a world of difference. As a side note you are much better off making angled cuts on a table saw if you have access to one. They will come out perfect every time. Good luck and keep bassing! Great vids BTW! 🤪👍🔊
Oh man! I think I found the answer!! Thank you so much for your insight!! I'm definitely going to keep thickness in mind next time. And yeah as far as the table saw, I know, just not in the arsenal just yet (but definitely planning on getting one!). Thanks again man, really appreciate that! And thanks for checking out the videos!
Cutting a straight line in wood without a table saw (sometimes even with one) can be a freaking nightmare!!! I have built about 8 or 9 enclosures so far and I have had my fair share of issues so I understand your struggle man!!! But the finished product looks pretty good man so in the end it was more than worth it I am sure, good job bro
Yea man a table saw DEFINITELY seems like an investment! But thanks for that comment! It's reassuring knowing that this is just the nature of the game, and I'm not completely failing haha. And thanks for checking out the content man!
I enjoyed this for sure! I definitely saw from the jump that port wasn’t going to be able to breathe. I built my box from 7 ply maple which was a whole different set of problems every next box you make less mistakes but new mistakes. Always fun though. Enjoy the content thanks for taking the time to make the videos!
Yea idk how I missed it during the design phase…I literally made a 3d model to check everything and forgot a super basic principle! And yea I’m not ready for nice wood yet! Also if possible, when I cut I use 2 guides on either side of the saw so when things happen with the blade there is nowhere else for the saw to deviate. That seems to work well for me
Whoa man thats a big ass compliment!! Thanks so much man! Be warned tho, i didnt give my port enough room on the back so i ended ip having to cut some out of it and extend it outside the box
If you could, get a table saw. It's a great investment. What I do to seal the gaps after using silicone, I use polyurethane. If there is a leak of air in the box, it will find it. It also hardens solid.
I definitely want one! That’s been on the shopping list for a while now. And that’s a good idea using the polyurethane! Never thought of that. Thanks for the pointers!
Sure! It's a little complex due to the way I designed it, so I'd recommend pausing on the digital version at 1:55 and 1:57. Also, keep in mind I have since changed up the port so it now pokes out of the front of the box (the original design left the port too close to the back of the box). I got a much better performance after I did that, but I had to sacrifice the backseats (there's a video about that). But as-is in the video: Top is 38x20 Bottom is 38x27 Sides are 19 x 16 3/4 x 25 3/16 x 19 Front (port side) 38x17 1/2 Back (slant) 38x20 1/2 Height is 19 Port is 5x15x20
Only put blade out as far as you need if you did not that might help , you need more space between the port and your back if you have 2 in port you need 2 in of space . But looks good keep slapping
Thanks! Yea that may have been a factor as well, I knew that, but idk if I was doing it faithfully haha...and yea the space behind the port was the big design flaw that I didn't even think about until mid-way through assembly!! Right?! I mean I DID design it to fill that space, but even I was surprised it worked haha. A little tip, your port is probably suffocating, because of how much clearance you need. You need at least 3-4inchs clearance for your port to breath. You’ll see a huge difference in just that.
Yea I forgot to mention it in the video, but I actually realized my design mistake during assembly (actually seeing how close the port was to the rear, it finally hit me!)...I'm thinking about just chopping a few inches off the back and adding a few on the front (or maybe just redoing the port altogether for a cleaner look). Port is 15x5 and 21” deep. If I’m being completely honest, I forget exactly how I determined to make it those measurements, but I know I was aiming for a tuning of 30Hz. Btw, the box went through surgery after this video and I ended up extending the port outside of the box (while also cutting it down on the inside to keep the dimensions the same).

Idk man that's a tough one. MAYBE if you built a wall, but if you wanted to keep the top of the box under the windows, then no. My box currently takes up ALL the space between the backseat and the hatch, and the top of the box is flush with the top of the backseat. To be completely honest, I'm thinking about removing my backseat just to give my one 18 some more room to breathe, so for two you might have to. Oh ok I know where that's at, I just had a shoot out there recently...but most definitely man, it's only going up from here! Thanks for checking out the video
Tbh it’s the only way I tested. I DID try the port facing forward, which made it almost more windy (definitely COLDER, but not really windy). But I’ve never tried it with the sub firing anywhere but up. But that DOES seem to be the most common configuration in these cars
@alkalimuzikgroup2045 if anything, I’d be interested in seeing what it sounds like with the sub rear firing, OR the port also firing up, but I think this setup works pretty well
I put them in a google drive folder since I get this question so much: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dmmfT9HOCxAftANpmPdPy1g75vU_yLJd?usp=share_link In these original plans, the backseat could be up (so it was still functional), and the trunk door would close. The port was too close to the trunk door though and was also choked up on the inside near the slanted part of the box, so I cut 10 inches out of the port and built an extension on the outside the box. I wouldn't have been able to do this with the backseats up, so I removed them completely and moved the box forward in the car. You could avoid this by building the port on the top next to the subwoofer. Just a lil fyi in case you want to build this one! Good luck! Any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

(At least part way thru, at some point i bought a new blade just to see if that was the issue)…but yea some 45 jigs are a definite! Now I’m spending the money twice. And no hate on HF over here! I’m a big fan of their stuff (although I’ve only picked up hand tools and clamps n bs from there). @AndrewHord-xj5ze thanks for the input! I’m always down to talk bass builds man, I like the different perspectives. I WILL be changing up the build, but with a whole new box and different subs…but that’s still in the design phase.
Thanks man!
good and entertaining...
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
N i k ow that feeling i just want bass now!
Right?! Sometimes it's not even about getting the build to look good, you just wanna hear it SLAP!
@@DaBadNewz me myself had 2 L7s in a 97 Corolla. My 1st real build, yes i love the bass but i also love to hear my trunk bangin. Mine sounded like i had 4 starved silver backs in the trunk n they smelled 🍌s on the out side. Im trying round subs out now. Something bout them squares.
Hahaha sounds like it must have been a beast! Those L7s get down! Hope your next build hits even harder!
@@DaBadNewz hey bro u ever seen a real deal rhino box. Or the holy grail of rhino sprayed boxes, it called VIRTUAL TECHNOLOGY. I got the single 15 version nd a 2nd gen alpine type R Box on a black n yellow kicker cx 1200.1 by itself gotta weigh like 175 to 250. I know so many people b like my shit hittin hard. But i shit u not i can tell my girl coming atleast 10 blocks away N I start feeling it when she like 2 blocks away... N i b bumping everything i put a cd in i play it on tilt from beginning to end of cd. But 2 pac's Violent song is most beast song playin on da system. I hav no idea bout tuning. I mean i k ow nothing bout it A-Z! So some songs i b like that dont sound like the sub likes it. I had a Rockford Power T.1000.BD, i took it out needs much more power than the jeep liberty all this is in. N its my 1st no trunk build. My bad on all the over talking. I mainly was tryin say just with what i told u. No 1 hits like that from outside of the car around here unless they walled up! I payed 30 for da box n a collector offered me 800.00 on spot for just the box he was 1 that made me realize what i got. My whip is a 99 maxima on 22s n 4 12 L7s on a big ass Phoenix Gold. Never sold publicly amp. Ive only seen the 600.1 same version amp. When i messed it up n sent it to PG headquarters they was grillin me like i stole IT. N said i WAS not to hav it. Nd best of all its warranteed for life no matter how i break it. They sent it back n it qorked better than b4 i broke it..
@@DaBadNewz i sittin around like 10 8 year old girls playin wit barbies. So i just kept typing. Sry. N my 4 12s they in a iso baric box. When i put my arm rest up, it sounds like sum cheap 8s drop my arm rest u cant breathe.
Is that Lila Ike i be hearing in the background
Hell yea it is! Good job! Not enough people know about her
Can u fit 2 i wanna put 2 resilient sound 18s but keep the back seat
Idk man that's a tough one. MAYBE if you built a wall, but if you wanted to keep the top of the box under the windows, then no. My box currently takes up ALL the space between the backseat and the hatch, and the top of the box is flush with the top of the backseat.
To be completely honest, I'm thinking about removing my backseat just to give my one 18 some more room to breathe, so for two you might have to.
Either way, good luck on your build, and thanks for watching!
Qho would've thought when i use to call a crack head. A BASS HEAD. NOW IM A TRUE 🔊 BASS HEAD.
Yea we the real bassheads!
That sh!t pounds, that roof is about to come off. lol, What part of Cali you from bro?
Thanks man, I'm trying! And I'm in San Diego, South Park area if you know it
@@DaBadNewz Nice to know bro. I stay in Los Angeles, Boyle Heights/East LA area, we stay subbing out here. Keep them subs slapping!
Oh ok I know where that's at, I just had a shoot out there recently...but most definitely man, it's only going up from here! Thanks for checking out the video
So firing is better on an XB
Tbh it’s the only way I tested. I DID try the port facing forward, which made it almost more windy (definitely COLDER, but not really windy). But I’ve never tried it with the sub firing anywhere but up.
But that DOES seem to be the most common configuration in these cars
@@DaBadNewz ok perfect I thought so same position I had my HCCA's on my Trailblazer
@alkalimuzikgroup2045 if anything, I’d be interested in seeing what it sounds like with the sub rear firing, OR the port also firing up, but I think this setup works pretty well
Bravo
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
DoPE!
Thanks for checking it out man!
i fwu
Well shiiit, I fwu! I appreciate the love man, thanks for watching and leaving some feedback.
Have a great one!
What is 3'2" what's the actual inch I don't really understand
3’2” means 3 feet 2 inches, which is 38” (inches)
Yo bro can u email me the proper dimensions pls I'm getting confused.
I put them in a google drive folder since I get this question so much: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dmmfT9HOCxAftANpmPdPy1g75vU_yLJd?usp=share_link
In these original plans, the backseat could be up (so it was still functional), and the trunk door would close.
Good luck!
Any other questions don't hesitate to ask!
how to get better
step #1 BIRCH
step #2 DIABLO BLADES
step #3 get some 45 jigs for long cuts
Maaaan! Everybody keeps saying diablo blades…but thats what i was using! (At least part way thru, at some point i bought a new blade just to see if that was the issue)…but yea some 45 jigs are a definite! And tbh, I’m scared of birch (scared of messing it up worse, I’ve heard its less forgiving).
Thanks for the tips tho! Much appreciated!
@@DaBadNewz MDF is a nightmare on top of all this its not bad for home use like a build and watch swell up and crumble desk or as a shelf but not a bass setup the heat produced by the material and the dust alone is killer on tools and your health plus any and ALL wood glue bonds to this stuff like kids Elmer glue trying to stick a sheet of paper to its self and hoping its holding together before needing a staple " i had a air gap but i fixed that " im telling ya man a sheet of 13 ply vs a sheet of sawdust will take you from " wtf ! " to " oh shit man wtf was i thinking before damn i should of been doing it this way the right way from the start " in 1 box build OH and if you got a table saw instead of a hand held rotery saw made to use mostly for 2x4's would take you miles above your current situation you'd make 45's so easy you could do is 5th of jack deep in a bottle and still couldnt mess it up lol if money is the killer go to harbor freight * booo not HF * lol i bought a table saw for $180 3 years ago and i still have YET to regret doing so clean straight cuts 45's just for the LOL's and octo ports for that oh yea factor !
very sorry for the long reply but i see a fabrication shop in the making when i see you man but you yourself are causing forced limitations and its not always the money that stops people from taking the next step up into that boss level journey know what i mean GL and keep on keepin' on man
Yea the table saw is definitely on the list before the next box build! I’m completely done with even trying with the circular saw (i picked it up thinking it would be a cheap alternative to a table saw, but it turned out to not be a suitable replacement and i should have just splurged from the jump). Now I’m spending the money twice.
And no hate on HF over here! I’m a big fan of their stuff (although I’ve only picked up hand tools and clamps n bs from there). But I’m all for saving a few bucks when it’s actually a decent alternative.
And definitely no worries about a long reply, I’m always open to suggestion and ways to improve my work and workflow, so thank you!! And seeing a future fab shop is a major compliment!! (When i was younger that was always a dream of mine)
And thanks for specifically calling out my limiting of myself, that’s something i know i do that I’m trying to work on, and i needed that reminder that its showing thru the screen…time to tighten up!!
Appreciate the guidance! Have a great one!
I got one too! I swear I was doing all that, I was using clamps and multiple straight edges and somehow the blade would still start biting at a weird angle. Think it just wanted me to learn to appreciate when sanding isn’t required lol. 100% buying a table saw before my next big box build.
Thanks for the tips!

Your ports to close to the trunk
Yea when I first made the box the port was choked by the back of the box AND the trunk. I have since extended the port outside the box and moved the box back about a foot (no more backseats!). The original design FIT, but definitely didn’t have the space it really needed.
Thanks for checking it out and leaving some feedback!
Them sheets are $59.99 now smh
Fuuuuuck! They weren’t even that much a few months ago when I grabbed the wood for the platform
@@DaBadNewz yuuup , been a while since i built a box and jaw dropped when i saw the price last week at home depot
Yea it might be time to cool off on woodwork until there is some kinda break
@@DaBadNewz ended up putting 2 of those support bars but i think im gonna end up building the rrof and gluing it all solid..... my rear doors are now flexing like crazy.... this is a headache lol
Yea i bet! You seal up one spot, now all that energy is going to the next annoyance. Chasing the dragon with this shit
