If you’re new to the Meta Quest world and you’re excited to start using your device and sharing your VR experiences with others, knowing how to cast on meta quest 3 is essential.
As mentioned in previous meta quest casting videos, Meta Quest headsets are unfortunately (at the time of filming this video) only compatible with Chromecast devices.
What this means is if your smart TV does not use Chromecast by default, you will need to get an external chromecast device, which I’ve linked below, in order to be able to cast your device.
For some reason this small, but very important detail is not abundantly made clear anywhere on the internet, not even Meta’s website, which I find a bit frustrating from a general consumer's perspective, but at least there’s a solution available. And an external Chromecast device is it.
More About Chromecast & Quest 3 Casting - 00:45
In short, the easiest way to tell if your smart TV uses Chromecast by default is if after following my instructions in this video, you are not able to see your TV as a casting option through your Meta Quest 3 device.
If that happens, picking up a Chromecast is next on your to do list. You can pick up a Chromecast device in your respective country using these links here:
USA: amzn.to/3Pk8z9c
UK: amzn.to/447wmxs
CA: amzn.to/42KZd9A
AUS: amzn.to/42UhWje
The upside to buying an external Chromecast device is it gives you the Google experience no matter the television and regardless of whether Chromecast is your preferred Streaming/casting service, you can always unplug it and use your smart TV’s default settings if you prefer.
The main point is it provides a how to cast meta quest 3 solution regardless of which TV you have and it can be taken with you everywhere you go.
Who knows, you might want to sneak a VR workout in during your travels. Portability is just another great use case if you ask me.
How to Connect a Meta Quest 3 to a TV - 01:42
Now for the part we’ve all been waiting for, how to connect Meta Quest 3 to TV.
Here’s what you need to do:
If you’re going the external Chromecast device route, make sure your device is all set up and plugged into the TV.
Next you’ll need to turn on your Meta Quest 3 and place it on your head.
Once the system has booted up, make sure the main user panel is visible and select the little pink camera icon.
After selecting the pink camera icon,, you’ll see another menu containing all available casting options for your Meta Quest device.
Your options will include mobile app, computer & if your chromecast has been set up correctly, it will appear as an option as well.
If your TV already supports Chromecast, “Smart TV” will appear as a 3rd option for you.
From here you’ll either want to select the “Chromecast” or “Smart TV” option and your Quest 3 should start casting to your smart TV.
And that’s it!
To stop casting your Meta Quest 3, simply head back to the casting menu via the little pink camera icon and select “Stop Casting” From the menu.

*PLEASE READ:* Meta have restored Chromecast capabilities on Meta Quest devices just 2 weeks after removing it on the v60 update. The info in this video is still valid! Read more here: metajunkie.co/meta-quest-casting-not-working
I've also just made an update video discussing the debacle around Meta removing Chromecast here: ua-cam.com/video/bA5YzEMrRu0/v-deo.html
Sorry to bother with this because I seen a lot of people asked but I was wondering if chromecast is working still before I buy one?
@@Spoonenheimer hey no worries yes The latest update supports Chromecast.
You are useless
Awesome, this works great, thank you!
Yay! Glad I could help
Thank you
Thank you! I wish it told you this on the headset
Me too. I guess they just don't want to draw attention to their products reliances... Especially if the method of reliance is Google lol
thanks for the tip!
My pleasure!
I can’t find my Tv
“Altube Yougorithm” 😂 cute
Haha at least someone caught that
Were you charging your headset while doing the video? If so what charger are you using? Just curious
Will hooking up the chrome cast mess up a Roku smart tv?
It won’t mess it up so to speak but you will not be able to use any Roku features while using chromecast. When you plug the chromecast in, you need to select “input” and then select the HDMI port you plugged the chromecast into. This essentially converts your TV into a google TV until to deselect that input.
Hope that helps.
You can cast to your phone first, then cast your phone to TV as it states in Quest Description.
Yeah, I read that yesterday. Will be making an update video for sure.
Chromecast support has been removed 😢
Lol what?!? How could it be when I used chrome cast in this video😂
@@meta_junkie Have you upgraded to v60 or using a second account on your Quest?
@@meta_junkie It's possible your headset hasn't been affected by it yet since they don't roll out these updates to everyone all at once, but unfortunately a lot of people have confirmed that they lost Chromecast support in the past couple of weeks.
Does it work or not i would buy a q3 but i would like that someone can see it
Yeah, they just announced it, the only way to cast it is to have a Browser compatible with the casting, use your phone then mirror it to a TV, or lastly, use a cable with the dev app(this best quality for recording).
Will this do audio as well?
Yes
This video is going to age like FINE milk.. V60 Chromecast is gone. I bought a chrome cast for Xmas just for it too..
Interesting. Can you link me to any announcements from Meta stating Chrome least is being abolished? I only just updated my headset too before filming this so I’m a bit confused.
@@meta_junkie Yeah I will when I get home from work but you can just Google it. I know some other VR YTbers covered it and said Meta is not doing it because "It's unreliable/not stable" so they took it out of V60 while Meta says they are looking for a better alternative from Headset to TV method.
Thanks would appreciate that. I just looked at my software and I am on v60. I updated the software right before filming this video so my guess is they are probably trying it to see how people react first.
It honestly doesn’t make sense for them to just remove the option to cast through chromecast lol. Especially if they don’t yet have an alternative to switch to immediately.
@meta_junkie yeah I hope they bring it back, really hate the fact they removed it. I noticed your accent, not sure if you reside in the states or not but that might be why I don't have it and you do...?
Me too! However, in-between now and my last comment to you, I've gone ahead and found a neat app that allows your meta quest 3 to your phone and then cast from your phone to the TV through chromecast lol. So there is a way around this issue that still makes getting a chromecast a viable solution.
I'll have to make an update video explaining this. I'm so bummed this change has occurred at the same time of me posting this video though haha!@@Capy.AnonyMou5
I was hoping this was a new way since Chromecast support has gone 😔. Casting to the browser/computer is 💩
You can still do it with chrome cast but through your phone. Get this app: apps.apple.com/au/app/screen-mirror/id1607275456
Skip through the pricing bs, it's actually free, then begin a chromecast broadcast to your tv.
Then head to the meta app and cast from your headset to the meta app and your device should start casting to the tv.
will this work on my crt?
Great question! Casting a Meta Quest 3 generally requires a TV with an HDMI input to connect a Chromecast device. CRT TVs typically don't have HDMI inputs, so unfortunately, you won't be able to cast directly. However, you could potentially use an HDMI-to-RCA converter if your CRT TV has RCA inputs. Keep in mind that the video quality might not be ideal, and additional lag could affect the experience. Always check the converter's compatibility and specifications before purchasing
this dont work if your running wifi mesh system absolute joke i dunno why
What about Amazon Firestick? 😅
I do t think it’s compatible sorry.
Title is misleading, it's how to make Quest 3 work on CHROMECAST...
Bro made this video recently and doesn’t even know they’re getting rid of chrome cast support 🤦 They literally announced it…some people still have the option right now but it’s going away
Bro recently left the same comment as everybody else and doesn’t even know… 🙄
I did some further research yesterday and it looks like there’s a way around it still using chromecast so I will be making an update video on that very shortly.
It’s NO LONGER supported.
Where have you seen this?
@@meta_junkie they took it out last month (December) I know because I just got my first Quest 3 for Xmas and a Chromecast and that morning it worked and that same day, in the afternoon it no longer was available to choose from. Only had 2 options.
It’s all over the meta forum of people complaining.
Meta did bring it back after 2 weeks, I honestly thought they wouldn’t bring it back anymore.
There’s a UA-cam videos about it too (Meta taking it out and then bringing it back again).
So all is well, but if it didn’t your video would have aged so badly 😂
Yeah I did a video about them bringing it back too: ua-cam.com/video/bA5YzEMrRu0/v-deo.htmlsi=qIdDfWFid7xRq_j7
I was so confused when I uploaded this video because I literally filmed the tutorial the day before and then had an influx of comments saying it's not there any more haha. I'm glad they bought it back. I love using the Chromecast to be honest. You can take it anywhere, plug it into the tv and off you go. Thanks for swinging by the channel.@@dalfimcrouch1891
@@meta_junkie yeah that was the best was to show your friends/family how good VR is… and to have it just on your phone or screen mirrored from your phone to the tv (with the sound still coming out of your phone) was just so clunky.
So I’m glad Meta listened (how could they ignore the uproar) 😅😅😅 and brought it back.
Keep up the great work 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
What is the point try to figure out how to get a 3d blue ray player directly in and not buy ripping it in a file then I will subscribe to your channel 😂😂
Lol don't work any more 🤣
It does though haha
no more chromecast, f meta
Yeah, my headset still has the capability even on v60 which is weird.
There’s still another way to do it with Chromecast. There just another step involved.
Up date video coming.
@@meta_junkie You mean casting to Meta app on Android phone then mirroring to Chromecast from there?
Yup that's it.@@estusflask982
This isn't going to age well. 😂😂😂😂
Yes it will lol
@@meta_junkie Posted that snarky response AFTER it was REMOVED, protested against, then re-added. Still not gonna age well. 😂😂😂
My statement remains true.@@KptnKMan360
@@meta_junkie It doesn't. Stay petty. 😚
I'm done here. 😂
Bye @@KptnKMan360 😘
