    Blue Mage also has the Masked Carnivale which is basically a bunch of puzzle fights specifically designed for BLU where you need certain spells for each fight to deal with a certain mechanic and they get REALLY niche like casting Blind on an enemy with Reflect to blind yourself to avoid an eye marker. Its a lot of fun and the final few fights are legit full on bosses that you get a fancy title from if you do the fight perfectly

    Summoner's Endwalker rework might have made it a bit on the simplistic side, but it gave Summoner a level of potential that it lacked before. Nigh on every job is just a basic combo and using things off cooldown until burst window, with very little variation. RDM dualcast is somewhat interesting, but it doesn't differentiate the job enough.

    Scholar is probably the most strategic class, not only because it's thematically considered to be a strategist-style job but they live in the spot of pre-mitigation healer. A lot of their tools for healing are meant more to prevent the damage being done than to heal reactively, which is where White Mage shines. So a SCH needs to know the fight well enough to know when to cast what for the best performance. BLM follows after with needing to know the flow of the battle because they're one of the hardest punished if they pop Triple Cast and Leylines and the boss phase changes, completely wasting your set up.

      I would argue that AST also needs to be played pretty strategically. Maybe not on the level of SCH and BLM but a lot of their tools have to (or can) be set up beforehand as well and really shine when you set them up right! On top of that they got super poor mobility outside of lightspeed (which is needed and delayed for the 2min window) so you really got to preposition etc.

    One nice thing about Summoner, there are story beats locked behind you having a role at a certain level. By having Summoner leveled, you also have Scholar leveled, so that's two roles down. In addition, when learning raids some other casting classes will start summoner for learning so they'll get down the fight rhythm so they know what to do to bring Black Mage, as Black Mage needs you to know when you can afford to stand still.

  • @Inhaledcorn

    Yeah, Reaper has two casts (well, three, kind of, but the third you only use during downtime): Your ranged attack (which becomes an instant cast if you use either of your teleports), Communio (burst finisher), and Harvest Moon (which is a two-part attack with the cast being a charge you can hold and the cast is instant outside of combat).

    There actually is an indicator for the slide casting! If you put an emote on your hotbar, the emote is unavailable while casting unless slide casting is available, so the emote on the hotbar acts as a slide casting indicator. As a black mage main, I find this very useful. That being said, it is the sort of thing you should just learn the feel of instead of relying on the emote to tell you

  • @GWRaynor
    @GWRaynor 10 місяців тому +2

    There's an easier way to tell when you can start slide casting than using emote buttons. You can start moving again once the cast time gets to 0.50 seconds remaining. For jobs with shorter cast times this means you can start moving with as much as a third or more of your cast bar still left.

  • @rubyblooddemonking
    @rubyblooddemonking 10 місяців тому +2

    Black mage has long bar times to go with their big damage, redmage gets dual casting which lets them cast an instant, they use it with shorter casting spells to skip the lomg res timer and res party members, summoner charges their bar for 15 seconds then picks a color, two out of three of the colors are instant casts and the last one is long and you have to stand still but does the most damage.

  • @SpiralKnight90
    @SpiralKnight90 10 місяців тому +2

    So the thing about Blue Mage, besides learning monster attacks, is since they can't run the roulettes like other jobs they get a ton more exp from mobs. While you can solo level with the right skills, the most efficient way to level is to pull a high level mob and have a someone not in a party with you kill it for you.

  • @MrTjonke

    Easy way to kno when you can move and not interrupt "slide casting" is to put an emote on your hotbar, when it is able to be used you are free to move no matter the % of the castbar.

  • @DoktorWieg
    @DoktorWieg 10 місяців тому

    One of the reasons why the caster DPS actions tend to show bigger damage numbers than other jobs is that unlike any other (except healers to an extent), they do not have a 'casting auto-attack'. This means that their damage is 100% derived from their spells whereas tanks, melee DPS and ranged DPS have auto-attacks which passively deal a small amount of damage automatically. So that lack of auto-attack is rolled into their spells which tends to make them appear to do more damage (and a skilled BLM, RDM or SMN will usually end up dealing a fair bit more damage overall).
    My favorite casting job being Black Mage, I've gotten pretty good at its rotation and mechanics and I think a few things were glossed over in the video. For one, the BLM gets 2 procs that will both ease the sustaining of their Enochian buff that improves their damage (and allows free casts of your most powerful spells, Foul and Xenoglossy every 30 seconds) as well as both do burst damage and sustain your main DoT, Thunder I/III and Thunder II/IV.
    "Firestarter" let you cast "Fire III" for free and with no cast time which is a relatively hard hitting spell while under your fire stance (Astral Fire) and also reset your Enochian timer to full while "Thundercloud" lets you cast any "Thunder"-type spell for free with the added bonus of dealing the full damage of their DoT duration at once while also reapplying the Thunder DoT on all enemies hit. Firestarter is triggered by "Fire" (and later "Paradox") at a 40% chance while Thundercloud is triggerd on every DoT tick at a 10%/3% chance (10% for the single target Thunder spells, 3% for the AoE Thunder spells). So depending on your luck, you may well weave a few Thunder spells for free which, in dungeon pulls, *pulverizes* enemies.
    Red Mage is definitively more newcomer friendly as well as versatile since it allows you to not be hampered as much by casting while also giving you a lot of mobility options (a gap closer and a backflip). The tempo of the Red Mage is fun once you understand that you have some spells that are meant to be used through Dual Cast and since your second spell is instant, you have all the duration of a GCD to move, meaning every other cast is free movement.
    Even so, their ability to heal relatively well as well as abuse Dual Cast to circumvent entirely the cast time of Verraise (their battle raise) means that they can single-handedly save a raid party from a wipe by quickly bringing back party members whereas all other casting jobs with a raise (Healers included) will only be able to instant-raise every minute with Swiftcast and otherwise need to hard cast their Raise ability. And it goes without saying that their flow between a rushdown melee combo to chain casting high power spells as finishers look very cool and are satisfying.
    As for Summoner, it used to be a pet class based on DoTs (think Warlock from WoW) which was revised a few times in small ways and was a very technically demanding job to play. However, with Endwalker, the SMN got completely overhauled to its current form which incidentally also makes it act more like Summoners / Callers from past games. It's current form is much simplier than how it used to play mostly because you no longer have to juggle DoTs and you pet abilities are entirely under your control.
    The flow works as follows : you use Aethercharge / Summon Bahamut / Summon Phoenix to enter an heightened state where your basic spells are enhanced (and with SB and SP, also summon the corresponding demi-primal) which last for 15s. Once those ability expires, you then get 1 charge of each of Ifrit, Titan and Garuda to summon in the order you wish; all three come in using their signature ability as a high damage AoE while also granting you use of spells aligned with their element : Ifrit let you long-cast a high damaging single target or AoE twice, Titan let you instant cast 4 mid damaging single target or AoE 4 times and Garuda let you rapid instant cast 4 low damage single target or AoE 4 times.
    At later levels, you also gain the 'favor' of either Ifrit, Titan or Garuda that let you use another signature ability of theirs : Ifrit let you use a 2 part instant AoE spell combo which starts with a gap closer, Titan let you instant cast Mountain Buster after every cast of your 4 aligned spells while Garuda let you long cast a damage AoE on the field. After the minute since your last Aethercharge / Summon Bahamut / Summon Phoenix is up, you can then cast it again (and in the case of SB and SP, you alternate between which becomes ready to summon).

    Blue mages have a massive variety of spells, and a spell that lets them take other roles, tanking, dps, or healing depending on what they want to do in that moment, playing blue mage is essentially every role in one, the fun of it is every spell you have to farm from specific enemies. Currently it’s at level 80 cap(recently increased from 70, so won’t increase to 90 for some time most likely) so it can’t do current endgame content, but it does have its own unique side content. Blm and whm used to have similar cast times as the longest of their respected flavors, but all the healers got adjusted to the same cast times to help balance things.
    My opinion though, if you can learn to cast even at a basic level with blm then NOTHING ELSE will give you trouble casting. Oh sure scholar has to hard cast its main shields and plan but you dont have to worry about sitting in the same spot for 3ish seconds while the boss looks for a new face to grind under its boot.
    Seriously tho, I went from blm in arr to rdm as soon as I unlocked it and my power levels shot up dramatically bc it was soooo less intensive on positioning. And then they gave me a raise and I got even better at saving entire alliances.
    Speaking of saving alliances, you always have your physical combo available as a rdm but its enhanced with your personal white and black juice bar. Use the juice for a combo to get your finisher and voila thats rdm.
    However, if everyone is deciding to try the new blanket some abomination has specially made for them, you can target alliance members from the alliance bar by clicking on their health symbol and toss them a raise.
    I mention this after the combo stuff bc if you cast jolt for 200 mp and verraise for 1000mp you're gonna be out of juice QUICK. So melee combos keep the action going even if you hit lucid dreaming and need a moment before you get back into things.
    As a very stubborn but fleetfooted rdm, you too can forestall the coming disasters known as party wipes by learning how to dance and more importantly NOT DIE.
    Im only sad about rdm bc as a hrothgar I can't wear hats anymore

    The biggest use you'll get out of blue mage is whenever Square announces a mogtome event where you can get a special currency to spend on rare items by doing old content for a limited time. Because if you unsync those fights you'll be allowed to use blue mage, so what people will do is make an entire party of blue mages with specific spell choices to absolutely demolish that boss in like 10 seconds to make grinding it extremely quick. Which reminds me, I should get around to actually making the effort to grind up my blue mage and unlock spells for it one of these days lol

      Eh, I'mma keep it a buck, 80% of the spells can be gotten yourself. The only true needed spells are going to be "Aetherical Mimicry", "Might Guard" and "Basic Instinct," because once you're past that, you can easily, EASILY, just take your time to go unlock some basic DPS skills for the damage of your choice.
      Once you get Exuvation, you can mimic a healer and go into any content synced and handle it yourself. Maybe Desynch some primals to get your GCD's. Shock Strike is probably the best one to get first, followed by Eruption. Garuda's strictly better but Eruptions easier to use. Choco Meteor for open world unlocks. After that, it's just adjusting to content by yourself and playing it safe. Get RB/UV And be the bane of all fates.

    Speaking of Melee with a cast bar... Yeah, Reaper has two skills with one (Soulsow, which turns into Harvest Moon. And Harpe, their ranged attack), but each have conditions where they are instant (Soulsow is instant while you aren't in combat, and Harpe gets an empowered instant cast after using one of the movement skills)
    The ranged option having a cast bar instead of being instant definitely makes RPR a bit more melee-dependent than other physical melees, but it does have other options in its kit to compensate a great deal of the time (and at least doesn't have as much animation locks as the other maiming job, Dragoon, so it can slide around the battlefield like butter~)

    @knowwhoiamyet 10 місяців тому

    In the event I'm not misunderstanding your understanding of BLU, it's not so much that BLU "isn't allowed" into content from a player-made decision standpoint, it's that BLU literally has a restriction that it cannot queue into duties with random players. You are forced to premake your party or go alone, there is no pugging with BLU. It's also always below the level cap, so it can never be used for current content. It's not that BLU is "frowned upon and not let into groups", it's that it literally isn't allowed by the game's own mechanics to join content willynilly like other jobs are.
    BLU is a job that, the lower your level sync is, the stronger it is, because while other jobs will lose core functions of their kit and potency gains and whatnot from level up milestones, the entirety of BLU's kit is classified as level 1 spells. This leaves BLU in the peculiar spot of being better than other jobs synced down, but worse synced up since it doesn't scale the way non-BLU jobs do. If you're unsync farming, generally speaking you'd want a normal job that can get a much higher level and better gear. In content you're forced to sync though, such as FATE farming for events (Like the upcoming Yokai Watch return), or Anima Weapon or Resistance Weapon progress, BLU is great. It's also great for farming synced dungeons for Moogle Tomestone events.
    Unfortunately this puts BLU in the unenviable spot of never satisfying everyone. If you have BLU ready and raring to go, you'll wish you had more chances to use it. If you didn't bother with it, you'll wish you had it when the opportunity arises. It's useful just enough to regret not having it when it'd be great, but not used enough to feel like you get a whole lot out of it lol.

    7:00 blue mage is simply not allowed to queue with anything, dailies or otherwise. You have to unsync the duty finder to use them and form a party or go solo, then level sync if you want to 100% learn a skill, unless its a quest related skill then it doesn't matter. They actually level off the world map, they have massive exp bonus to exp from mobs, but not FATE mobs, then there is the power level way which they don't like to talk about cus technically the devs don't like it, but its one of those eh don't talk about it much and nobody cares. (HINT: get to lv 7 I think is when you get sleep from your role skills, then go to the highest area you can under level 81 with a lv 90 friend, do not be in party, you sleep they kill, profit) it is absolutely a class youll want to wait for, you can't do a whole lot with it until later honestly but by all means unlock it, hunt some spells in your downtime or something.
    Now the fun of blue mages, once they hit 50 you get your own content, and you gather spells to sort of build your own class. It is pretty much an arena of puzzles, when you hit 60 (and beat HW, cus you have to to gain access to Pharos Sirius Hard Mode) make sure you unlock atherial mimicry asap as honestly it is one of your more important skills you will have on all of your sets (yes you can save 4 load outs for blue to swap when you want) mimicry is important because it unlocks 2/3 of your utility as it lets you use it on another player to mimic their role, so you can tank or heal as blue mage or just take a dps buff. There are of course some skills you'll want to track down as soon as you can, like ultravibration (in SB area, the peaks I think) and the freeze skill from the chimera in cutter's cry as that combo can instakill waves of mobs that are at or below your level super easy making dungeon runs so much easier. Also Basic Instinct from the courels in La Nocea as it lets you solo duties easier.
    If you don't decide to power level and want to level the legit way, you'll want 1,000 needles asap too its just outside of little ala migo, early game it is a godsend as it does 1,000 damage guaranteed regardless of armor or anything spread among everything in your range, but not worth much later with few exceptions for like blue carnivale, it can easily one shot a lot of stuff early on and will help you level very fast.
    After that some absolute must haves would be Pom Heal, and Exuviation for healer as this is your cheap basic heal and esuna. Tank honestly gets a lot of really cool stuff, but the only one you absolutely must have is diamondback, it makes you take 90% less damage for a bit, so it is your oh crap button to survive big hits, their agro honestly is just dps the things with Mighty Guard on which you will get by the time you can even tank as it is quest related I think that or get 30 skills to unlock it, it is buyable near your job quest guy. After that you will want at least one fast casting skill for single target dps, sonic boom is a good choice, one decent aoe spell take your pick, and one of the DoTs again take your pick (Siren's song is nice) and get as many of the primal skills as you can, some can not be mixed as they share timers with each other, but you can get a pretty good amount of instacast dps skills from them. Then you can look into strategies like moon flute combos and such or just do what you like, a lot of their skills are similar to others so you can mix and match what you like.
    I would recommend the blue academy youtube channel if you want more info, they have recommendations for full builds and walkthroughs of the carnivale fights too.

    I have a Corsair Scimitar i think the name was. The mmo mouse with all the buttons on the side.
    In Wow DH Havoc have issues like random fel rushes if you use the normal mouse button 4+5 (side buttons) So i made a profile for wow in IQUE and rebound mouse 4+5 to left/right arrow keys.
    If you use a profile for wow it will auto change your keybinds to your wow specific when in wow and if you tab out or close the game it will use the default profile and its assigned buttons.
    So you should be able to in FF14 assign a spell to down arrow as a example and then in the mouse profile you assign shift+scroll down to down arrow.
    Was just a little idea since it sounded like you really wanted to use the scroll wheel for keybinds in FF14 and going this other way you can get it to work.

    I had never really played a game like FF14 before when I saw Asmon play it. I did a little bit of research and heard Summoner's opener was difficult but otherwise a pretty easy class. There were DOTS for SMN at the time as well. Within a few months, SMN got a rework and go a lot simpler, but I'm not gonna lie... I still like it. It has unga-bunga energy similar to WAR. And it's one of those classes people never expect much from, so if you use your swiftcast rez macro at opportune moments, you actually get that "zero to hero" moment. One of the only times in the game I played where I felt like I made significant impact was when we were in an 8 man trial, only myself and a BLM alive. Rezzed a healer just before I died. Healer did LB3, and we were able to complete in one go. Those moments are what I play for. (Also, the phoenix regen that you should put on tanks is actually not a bad regen! During FFXI, was mainly Melee with the occasional SMN in the mix until I got the moon puppy Fenrir and been SMN main since (around 2006ish). In FFXIV became Scholar and SMN (love the niche), with occasional BLM and RPR in the mix. I love SMN in the FF Series. As well love and hate what Yoshi P. has done with the class. Love that it is simple and no longer the "traditional Pet +Dot class that it was. Though... it is depressing that FFXIV SMN is still lacking as a real Final Fantasy SMN, and not given the real attention it needs.
    My 2gil on FFXIV SMN is simple... Allow Carby to engage in battle again, nothing fancy, just basic damage each time you deal damage (Hard cast Ruin1-4). Add in additional Carby skins (Moonlight and Onyx to mimic the good old twins of the past) allow Shiva, Ramuh and Leviathan to be used after Pheonix phase, following the same formula of Chilliboy, Thicc Thigh Bird Woman and Chicken Nugget; adding these, would allow SMN to feel like an actual FF SMN, and to make things feel more in line to the last 25 years of FF and introduce Fenrir to be used as a replacement for Carby for those who want the moon puppy, and allow the pup to be a SMN exclusive mount (similar to FFXI). Also... really, Really, *REALLY* hoping in Dawntrail Pictomancer is the new caster class. I really need to relive and recapture my Relm nostalgia.

    Someone in his chat mentioned its impossible to balance blu. To that I say have you played FFXI? lol Besides they would have to rework it, they just don't want to cuz admittedly it probably would be a nightmare to balance even if you take a rework into account. Funny part is they don't technically use the weapon for anything since it doesn't have any stats so unless they decided to do that it would be a very easy job to gear since there would be no effective BiS weapon or any equipment to add to dungeon loot tables. I dream of them removing the idea of limited jobs since they could use that time to make a standard job. Although I might be upset that they turned it into a limited job in the first place when literally nobody wanted that. Would've preferred to wait till 9.0 if it meant blu as a regular job. Im hoping at the very least 7.0's limited job can party with blu for something to add some kind of dynamic. From what I understand they are aware that nobody was very happy about the way limited jobs were executed (and the fact that it took so long to add one more) and maybe reworked how they play from 7.0 onwards. One can only hope I guess.

Like they will get stuff like a 1.5 fire spell when you're all using lv 2 fire or a healing spell that heals basically nothing but then they will get something that applies ever buff to the whole party at the same time or every status effect to the enemy party at once which can just win the fight. Or they do that stupid, "you can only cast blue magic as a limit break" thing. Would really rather do 8-20x my damage output with a big 1-time attack than throw on a bunch of protection spells I can cast anyways.
