- Bob Dylan performing "Suzie Baby" (Bobby Vee Cover) with dedication to Bobby Vee who was in attendance for this performance. This was filmed at Midway Stadium in St. Paul, MN on July 10, 2013 when the Americanarama Festival of Music came through town.
Wow - this is just amazing. What a totally credible reading Dylan gives this! Few outside Minnesota remember that Dylan played piano in Bobby Vee's band for a few gigs under the name Elston Gunn.
I can't imagine a world without Bob Dylan. When almost all else is empty and chaotic in the music world there is Bob. What a class act. Long Live His Royal Bobness! And God Bless Bob Dylan!
R.I.P Mr. Bobby Vee just passed today, loved his songs growing up as a kid in Liverpool going through my dads record collection playing the old 45s.
After listening to Bob Dylans cover on Suzie Baby I've been influenced into listening to Bobbie Vee remembering my childhood when my older siblings listened to Bobby Vee.

What an incredible, great, respectable way to acknowledge early 60's rocker Bobby Vee from the stage. Dylan cited Mick Jagger and Madonna as some great people he shared a stage with through the years but the most "beautiful person" he ever played with -- was Bobby Vee. Vee actually was an excellent artist who had many, many top ten records and deserves to be in the R&R Hall of Fame just for that accomplishment. But he continues to be under-rated. Many of his hits were written by Carole King & Gerry Goffin which contributed significantly to their careers. Leon Russell produced many Bobby Vee tracks for Liberty Records. By the way, the Bobby Vee track "Keep on Trying" was produced and arranged by The Beatles' own George Martin. Not too shabby.
***** - You're right. My memory was going back to a printed interview where Dylan made the statement I referred to when Vee was initially diagnosed with Alzheimers. But during this concert, yes, he said "meaningful person." Thanks for the correction.
It was a compliment right? That's all that matters -- it's "meaningful person" then.
trousers5183 He undoubtedly says, "Beautiful." No doubt. It was not "meaningful," unless you've found a spelling of meaningful that starts with the letter "b," because the word Dylan says definitely begins with b.
Being a 'Minnesotan', these two rock legends are very special to me. What a major influence they, (esp Dylan) have made to the entire music world since their beginnings in the early 60's...immeasurable to ALL rock groups that have followed them!

That guitar player closest to Mr Dylan was my running buddy way back in 1980-1982 at south plains college in Levelland Texas< fun times and played a lot of music together, his real name is don utter, great picker.
I think Steve Hutchman is right about who the guitar player is. Don Utter/Donnie Herron is on steel right behind Dylan. It's gotta be him because he's the only one who plays steel.

+ think it s a shame Bobby wasn t asked on stage to sing his song as i m sure he could have done it better.
Bobby Vee had Alzheimer's by this point and wasn't capable of performing.
He didn't even say a word to the audience when I saw him at CalU this year.
