    When I first started raid leading, the callouts were definitely a must. Now that we have a much better roster, I barely ever need to do any callouts since by the time I have completely learned the mechanic, the rest of the static most likely have already gotten used to the timings. Leading a team of players with equal skill level and knowing everyone can trust each other to do their best is an amazing feeling. I'd say the pain of recruiting over 2 years was well worth it!

    As someone who’s “relatively new” to raiding in general, I enjoyed these interviews. For our static, somehow I ended up being in charge of callouts. It just sorta “happened.” That being said, there are two other players that are WAY more talented at the game. It’s been an interesting dynamic and I know for a fact their modesty is the only reason our team is working right now.
    This honestly reminds me of being in a band, except I’ve never been in a band with 8 people before. It sometimes feels like herding cats, but that feeling when we cleared E6S together after my previous static spent 6 weeks without a clear was a bliss that I find difficult to describe with words. It’s so nice when everyone is just doing their part. Even the mistakes start to matter less because you know they’re just that: simple human errors, as opposed to lack of motivation or self-improvement.
    Cheers, and thanks for the video.

    I can so much second the "there is no favourite part of static leading" x) I feel the least favourite parts as well, esp when youre forced to discuss peoples performance or theres a need to be more strict. It sucks when peoples personalities mesh pretty well but sometimes we fall a bit behind when it comes to dps and sorts ; ;
    The part about never joining statics with couples made me laugh: im static leading and my bf is raid leading :')

    This was a decent video, most of the basic intricacies of what a leader needs to manage are often lost on the beginner, as well as the team members. Mis-communication kills a group more often than bad gameplay imo. Your comment regarding saying things in the correct tone with the correct words is spot on, people get butt-hurt real quick and this salvages a situation.

    I agree with your video findings and especially those closing words. Using the right words is definitely a good thing. For the morale of the group and progging. I first joined a static in delta, only to watch it disband and fall apart. And you're right. The leader wasn't sure and confident.
    And recently during the lockdown due to CoVid, some of us decided to try and do uwu. To our surprise, we took 12 days to be done with it. They agree to let me be the raid leader doing the callouts, discussing strats and doing the delegations for mechanics. Communication is also impt so everyone can be on the same page. Callouts are okays at first but we didn't use any detailed ones when we were doing reclears after. Just calling out the skill name.
    Thanks again for your video. I shared it with my group and we all felt that we came a LONGGG way tgtr and it's still a long way ahead of us. Oops! Wall of text :)

    I started being a static leader in ShB after joining a couple of statics during SB so still learning the ropes here. I like the way you guys say you don't rely on Cactbot or triggers cos we don't either. We managed to blind prog most of this tier (needed to refer to E8S guide though cos couldn't figure out how to do Light Rampant) and despite that and the fact that we're all pretty new to savage, we do pretty good.

    All of your static based videos always make me miss my old static from BnS. I did all the work, and it was a lot of fun. The hardest part was that in that game there were a lot of bosses that required specific classes. So i had to kick friends based on their importance to the raid in comparison to others of the same class, which upset some of them.

    Great content, even though I do disagree with your raid leader regarding one point: as a raid leader, you should never get mad at anything or anyone while the raid is going on (and especially not for failing a mechanic twice lol) because it seriously doesn't have a single positive outcome - there's a huge difference between being assertive and being mad.
    That being said, as a fellow monk raid leader I do get that sometimes you just wanna punch something irl when someone, or several someones, fail certain mechanics consistently. The hard part really is to stay calm despite of it.
    EDIT: Big thumbs up for not using all the external bullshit though. That's always a huge plus in my book.

    I also raid with my wife, we both agreed on not speaking for the other even if the tone gets harsher, our group has been going since HW. We figured the most important part is that everyone in your static has the same aims. There is no point in doing ultimates if even one member doesn't want to and just does it because everyone else wants to do it. It will ultimately drag the whole group down. If someone underperforms we talk openly about it, give advice or direct them to someone with more experience with the job. If there is still no improvement we will replace him. Our readlead has one job, having the last say in something. Calls are done by the person that feels most conformarable doing so in a certain phase.

    Would you say it's a necessity for a Savage to have a static/raid leader 'officially?' My static has 2-3 players who just interchangeably handle the callouts for different mechs in different fights based off their expertise, with one player being our 'default' shot caller during E7/8S in particular, and we don't really have an official static leader for being the decision maker at all - we're all pretty easy going and have a good balance of outgoing personality types and laidback types, so one or two just naturally stepped up for recruitment and we tend to put down disagreements as a group pretty quickly. Should we look into officially designating one member as the leader or just keep operating as we have?

    • @Kine11328
      @Kine11328 3 роки тому +2

      Not necessary but better to have. Raid leader is also manage out of raid things like arranging schedule and loot management. It's important to appoint someone in agreement because if there's no clear leader, no one can make a final decision on anything.

    • @Drazor_Sylphia
      @Drazor_Sylphia 3 роки тому +1

      My static is very similar, but we have a static leader to make the final descision if we do not agree on something. And we have 2 people doing callouts for different mechanics because we found out that having one person doing all was too much for that person so we split it between two and it worked out much better. And normally when recruiting we ask if anyone in the static have anyone that may be intersted to join if not then we have 1 person that handles recruiting.

    • @haruhistka001

      Like the other comments said, I think having a static leader can be beneficial for any "admin" decisions. But I don't think one raid leader is needed, just a priority system for callouts for people not to call over each other should be enough.

    Love the people in my static, but some are very much unwilling to practice outside raid hours, instead they craft or just chat time away. As a result we’ve been only passable and have barely cleared savage raids. The many hiccups and multiple pulls are very frustrating, but there’s not a good way to bring it up as some people just enjoy the game in different ways than I do.

  • @VincentArchrat

    I'm co-leading my current static with my girl friend, honestly, the most important thing for us is being fair, if I mess with mechanics multiple times, she will tell me I need to work on this. I will always make sure everyone's on same page. It's okay to be serious every now and then, and sometimes you should be serious, but be nice, don't be rude to be serious. As for raid leader, my static came up with the most bizarre way, different members lead different raid, like, our dragoon (D1) leads E5S, does all the mechanics calling out; E6S is led by our paladin (OT); I warrior (MT) lead E7S, ast (h2) leads first phase of E8S, machinist (D3) leads third phase of E8S. I know it sounds chaotic, but it works for us, we did the same thing with E1S - E4S, it's our thing, be careful, I honestly wouldn't recommend people do that lol!

  • @raynavillus4927

    I think to be a leader, you should know everything mechanically up to the present and have the skills necessay to act on it. There may be so leeway given in some cases but another quality would be to do things in an instance as appropriate to the situation by knowing what to do and when to do it.
    Yes this is obvious but as leader you need to be on top of things, you need to be the top or in the top of people in the know and you need to be able to make decision as required but remember, not to ober extend and regrettably, this may intail putting the majority of the group about the few, sometimes there may be super tough decisions to make.
    As leader, you need to set an example for the rest of the group or fc even. You can of course seek counsel from higher veterans than yourself or place one as your second as an advisor.
    Though its a game, you need to be flexible and follow the rules of edicate but remember to have fun and sort out issues as required and DRAMA... Ifctheres 2 or more people in disagreement of something, gather them together and hear both sides(if necessary) and make a decision, though sometimes it may be best to let them talk it out, in either case privacy is key.
    Perhaps this is more than what was asked here but to be a leader, you need to consider things across the board and I put me answer here before wathing the video as to maintain what I think and anything that is of a shared mindset will happen to just bet, "great minds thinking alike" as it were.
    On to the video now!]:3

    • @fleeplayTV
      @fleeplayTV 3 роки тому +1

      If only it were that simple. Obviously don't be a dick and do offensive stuff to anyone but you can't treat everyone equally. There are times when your hand will be force either for something they do to you or other members of your group. Sometimes they don't do it intentionally but you gotta take responsibility for it. Other times it may not be something offensive they simply aren't cut for the content and are hindering the rest of group and you have to make difficult decisions. The problem with raid leading is that is simple in concept but can quickly become a second job and people who are not ready for that commitment get caught up in the stress and anxiety of leading 7 other immature and flawed human beings.
      Being a leader of perfect disciplined soldiers is easy being leader of a monkey zoo is completely different experience. Raiders are mostly young introvert gamers who sometimes lack basic social experiences and for the most part are super fragile or lack patience or sense of responsibility and social awareness.

    Lynx, I didn't hear it or see a comment, but what do you think are your strongest/weakest raid leading qualities? Your comments on Honesty are on point though. Everyone is adults and especially in 14, the groups are small, so there is no reason to hold information from the group.
    As a long time Raid/Static/Guild Leader (15 years) I can confirm that the worst part is, and probably will always be: Recruiting. Roster changes can be painful but knowing that you need to make a change to save your sanity and/or the group is a very needed skill. HOWEVER, Weeding through the type of people that never. bloody. read. your. post. is absolutely infuriating.
    Personally I don't think making the calls is that hard but we all have our stronger and weaker areas as people/leaders, but it definitely takes the longest to get good with it I think. Realistically, only RNG stuff "needs" to be called but even then, it's just for safety in case someone missed seeing it. With other things like strat and CD planning you have the ability to take your time with it (unless you are winging it first time you see it) but with calls its very in the moment and I am sure some people get anxiety over it.
    I don't think I heard it in the video but, I think setting realistic goals and understanding what your group is capable of is important. For my group, I post our goals weekly with our overall group goals in a list that we cross off as we complete each one. Everyone knows what our groups plan is through the next expansion.
    Everything else is fun. Strat planning, call outs, CD planning. All that is great but god damn I hate recruitment.

    I dunno why I'm even watching this, am too afraid to waste people's time by making mistakes to even join a static in the first place.
    But wow...playing monk and raid leading...That's kinda amazing.
    MNK has been a job I love, but it killed my morale because no matter how I try I cannot perform well with it. Ending at 14/15k average on 490 gear even on fights I know when I could do 16k with RDM without all the hassle has been utterly crushing my self esteem. Ended up caling MNK "MonkaS"
    Been switching to SAM, and at least now I sometimes perform better than i do with RDM even tho I only played SAM for two weeks compared to months of MNK before. But raid leading as Monk? That's some big multitasking capabilities.
    Anyway, all my respect to static/raid leaders, seems to be quite the tough task.

      In general you're supposed to be doing 15k damage with MNK in non-optimizing, non-static parties and with 490 gear. Buffs aren't aligned, non-ideal party comps, tanks dancing with boss -> no positional bonus and non-optimal fight strategy for melee dps used in pf are all constant issues that lower MNK dps. I have asked to let me get the Garuda debuff in E6S as MNK and got ignored. I have seen the clear video of FFlogs' nr 1 MNK in E5S. It was heavily optimized for (melee) dps e.g. other members stand and move to get them as much space as possible to handle mechanics and keep high uptime. THIS IS CRUCIAL for using Double True Strike rotation like can you imagine having to move away for Stepped Leader in E5S just as Twin Snake buff is about to fall off and you have to do Bootshine?
      I feel you, I am also putting MNK aside for SAM until changes come but that doesn't have anything to do with my self-esteem. At this point, it is well known that the job has issues and the amount of input is not reflected in the damage output.

      While we do joke about how Bounce is our human cactbot, mechanic callouts are more of a friendly reminder rather than something we depend on. There have been plenty of instances where he forgets to call something out or reads the mechanic incorrectly, but we carry on like nothing happened. Everyone understands all the fights and can play without calls so we're not exactly getting "spoonfed callouts." Outside of progression week, most of our voice chat is just off topic chatter.
      What Bounce does that's super helpful is researching and calling out buff alignments when we optimize fights for better numbers and kill speeds. It's not required knowledge for clearing fights, but it's enjoyable trying to improve every clear.
