I had the wonderful opportunity to be able to work with Valerie. It’s been 30 years and she was the best! She passed in 2019 when I was just diagnosed with cancer. I learned of her death while I was in chemo. I’ll never forget that moment. I love watching these old Rhoda episodes late at night as I fall asleep. It’s like hearing the voice of an old friend. I hope her husband and daughter are doing well.

I know what you mean, there were shows that I used to watch with my Mum and Dad back in the early 70's - usually in the evenings, it felt so comfortable and safe in those days, as if nothing would ever change; I wish I could borrow the TARDIS from Dr. Who.

She was housekeeper on McMillan and Wife, probably when she was also Ida. Joe was cute. I can't recall what their problem was, to cause the divorce. Those jean purses and shoulder bags were popular during most of the 1970s. They were of various styles. The writers could be so mean to Julie Kavner (Brenda)...having her obsess over donuts and only get dates with her cousins. I seem to remember it got a little better later in the series when she dropped a few pounds, but come on. She didn't look that bad in the beginning. I loved her and Rhoda's relationship. Even watching this as a teenager in the 1990's, I found them both so relatable.

This programme is class, it was when I was a kid and watching it now brings back lots of memories of my parents allowing me to stay up to watch it, plus Valerie is a stone cold fox. God bless her soul

Jeans handbags were very popular during 1973-76, I was a teenager then, and never used a purse then, but remember other females having them. Mom had one, too. That plastic on everything! Imagine sitting on it in July with no a/c. Rhoda is even insecure about Joe's parents. Joe is very cute, looks like Tom Jones, but he reminds me of Curt Willard on The Waltons, who married Mary Ellen. Ida is hilarious on this. I bet the way Ida and Rhoda acted in this ep made him feel as though he was in the twilight zone. He always seemed to like Ida though, despite her snoopy behavior. While single, Rhoda often seemed to be after Joe, to the point of smothering him.

I don't know why Rhoda didn't appreciate her mom. Many would have really enjoyed having a warm loving mom like Nancy Walker.❤

I didn't start watching shows like Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda till they had re-runs in the 1980's. Loved M.T.M show, Rhoda, Mary and Phyllis, oh my gosh they made me laugh when they were together! How cool to have an apt. in a huge Victorian home. Valerie Harper was so pretty, but I never liked the guy they paired her up with as her husband. Loved her mother, what a kick. lol
I miss shows like Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda...funny and great characters. Haven't watched T.V. in years, nothing but ugly bilge. I go to You tube and watch reruns.
