You see, overthinking is probably one of the problems. Ppl "staring" at me makes me think I look clumsy or maybe they are making fun of me, while when someone compliments me I feel like they are just trying to lift up my spirits or that they think I'm something which I'm not and that I don't even deserve the compliments....

I'm in the exact same boat. I refuse to take photos at family events because I know they're just going to be shoved in my face and all I can think is, "It'd be much nicer if I weren't in it." The only selfie I've taken was when the new Star Wars was coming out and they had a bunch of life-sized R2-D2s at the theater. That was years ago and I still think I was butt ugly in it. No one is nervous around me. I don't use social media because no one ever interacted with me when I did. The only reason people stare at me is when I'm taking their order at work. The only compliments I get are from family members who are almost obligated to or have a severe bias, or creepy jackasses at work who think they can butter me up or will hit on my coworkers who are all minors.
I look like that Mexican guy with a deformed chin who got shot during a revolution in the 1900s and survived. Except he looked better than me even after getting shot right on his face lmao.

I thought I was pretty in high school. I got bullied so much in elementary school and middle school. I had a pig nose, big ears, flat chest, a hair line that was only attractive in the 1600’s. I was really short and tiny in general. My first year of high school I got Bell’s palsy. Any confidence I had was lost. My mom was always critical about me. I saved all of my money to pay for my braces at 13. Yes I had a job for as long as I can remember. My mom made me pay to have teeth whitening. She took me to a dermatologist to see if they could laser off my imperfections. This was mid 90’s. Fast forward to 2010. I gave birth to my daughter in 2007. After I stopped breastfeeding, I gained weight. My mom would ask me every day if I was pregnant again. She would break me down to tears and all I could say was “I’m just fat” she was a model for 17 magazine in the 60’s. I could never meet her standards. I’m 5’ so modeling is out of the question and graduating from college with a 4.0 didn’t mean anything to her or my dad. My dad didn’t even stay at my graduation. My daughter is so confident. She knows she is smart, funny, artistic and she knows she is a beautiful person inside and out. I guess having crappy parents taught me what not to do to a child. I am proud of her and I am just delighted to have a 14 year old that is respectful, genuinely nice, awesome in every way. When I tell people I have a teenager, they’re like that must suck. Not if you teach your kid kindness and love and let them find what makes them happy. Maybe I did luck out. My daughter is an amazing artist. I think my mom lucked out with me. I was a good kid, never started trouble. She set the bar so high for me I knew I couldn’t make it and I gave up. I will never do that to my daughter.

To all the people in the comments being self-deprecating: you're sabotaging yourselves and actively making yourselves less attractive.
Hell, attractiveness aside, it frankly just gets on people's nerves if you're constantly putting yourself down. The occasional self-deprecating joke is fine, but a pattern of doing so becomes annoying.
If you find yourself often being self-deprecating about a particular aspect of yourself (appearance, work ethic, mood, etc.), try to work on that! It's a lot more attractive to be actively working on your flaws than to keep making the same tired jokes about them all the time.

Also, I think the nervous part is mostly true. Like when you notice someone hesitates to talk to you? Maybe they find you attractive. But I like to make other people comfortable around me, I give out good vibes only, I chill and I don't care what other people think. I often listen more than I speak and I laugh and smile frequently. I almost never feel people uncomfortable around me, so there's that. Maybe people are comfortable around you cause you make them feel that way.
Definitely, I think being easy to talk to is more important than being attractive. It won't make you happy when people find you attractive but can't get in a proper conversation. It'd only get lonely

I think in a way thats true. You see many people that are famous or were famous are also not really attractive as you really look at them. But there are 2 things they're all doing which make them stand out. First they do something of themselves: they do what they love, shining and being self confident about it and then second they are original in some form: they have a certain look which they feel confident with and which makes them shine even more. It just seems to fit then and that makes a person look good.

Hey, everyone has things that make them attractive, even if you yourself don’t find those qualities attractive. Also, this video only includes 5 signs which is too few to be able to decide your overall attractiveness. Besides, who even cares if your not attractive in the eyes of society? It means you forge deeper relationships with people because when they choose to hang out with you, it’s cause they genuinely care about you and not just because they are after your looks.

But really, what can you say other than a thank you? Others may express their thankfulness with a lot more words and actions, but in the end they're still expressing their thankyou's -something that you still can achieve even with 2 words. It's okay! You might repeat that moment in your head for the rest of the month but it's still a moment of just few seconds. If a breathing exercise helps you then do that, if screaming helps you then do that, if hugging helps you then do that. At the end of the day you're still loved❣️

hi im not sure how you identify. you have mr in your name so I just wanted to say that in case you're a boy/man, boys/men receive far fewer compliments than women. it's a really unfortunate feature of our society. if you're a girl/woman, the older you get, the less often you receive compliments in my opinion. if you identify in a different way, that adds a whole other layer of complexity in the way people interact with someone.
